Great neighborhood spot. People seem to know each other and have their share of regulars. I like that it's away from the major crowds down the 101. I loved my matcha and my friend enjoyed her latte. My wife and I stopped by here for a cappucino and we thought it was a great, indulgent cup of a coffee and a delightful place to drink it. The woman behind the counter who served us was very warm and friendly. When I started to hunt for the wifi password one of the guests kindly told me what it was and where to find it --- so a really nice vibe in the cafe. The decor was standout: one wall painted with flying seagulls. Just what you need from a cafe: a nice respite from the outside world. We stumbled upon SurfDog Java Hut in late October during an early morning walk. As we start strolling along South Coast Highway 101, parallel to San Elijo Avenue, we thought about grabbing some coffee to enjoy while walking by the beach. At the beginning of our walk, we came across Swami's Park, a nice hideaway. You can descend the stairwell there to enjoy a stunning view of the ocean. After taking in the scenery, we continued our walk along a mile-and-a-half stretch of beach. It was a beautiful day, with a fresh breeze carrying the scent of salt air. We enjoyed every sip of hot coffee, making the experience even better. read more

They got the amount of fruit right but it had almost no acai in it was pitiful. Smaller than the smallest acai bowl you've ever tried. Can't speak on parking, because we parked far and walked, get those steps in girl but it is on a busy street in the cute beach town of Encinitas. Love that because you grab yourself a bite to eat. Enjoy the cute ambiance and sit inside OR go take a scenic walk. I did both. The menu is simple, has all the good breakfast tingz. $10 will get you a basic breakfast place. I got an iced coffee with vanilla, could not taste any of the vanilla. But I also got the local's sandwich and the breakfast burrito and they were so delicious. I have now been 5 times in the last month and absolutely love Surfdog Java Hut's coffee. The place is laid back with wonderful coffee - mochas and cold brews (I'm sure the other coffees are great too!) are strong and full bodied. I have had their blueberry and raspberry bran muffins and I'm not sure it's made there or from a local bakery but they are on another level of flavor. My son has loved their fresh pressed orange juice and croissant too. I can't wait to go and try more of their food items too but what a great place with a wonderful team there to take care of you. A cute place to stop to sit and enjoy some coffee. Wouldn't recommend ordering food if you're in a hurry. A take out order for a bagel and a smoothie took 25+ minutes to be ready. The coffee au lait part of the order was prepared right after we paid which was nice to have while we waited. The everything bagel + cream cheese was standard, and from a New Yorker's perspective, light-handed with the cream cheese. Overall a nice place to sit with a coffee and company. This beautiful location is right across from Hansen Surfboards. The inside is small, but very welcoming. The staff are great too and offered a few suggestions for us to try. We ended up having the poppyseed scone, the chai bomb and the Cardiff kook. Everything was delicious and so full of flavor, and our order came out really quick! My wife and I had a great time during our recent day trip down to Encinitas. We had started our day at a local Butterfly Farm and having checking out all they had to offer we decided too look around in the city for a local lunch spot and coffee shop (no Starbucks or Peets for us if we can help it). After a fantastic taco lunch nearby we found several very appealing coffee shop options and decided on this one as it was within walking distance of where we were eating and parked. We made our way over and at first glance I liked the feel of the place and they had plenty of options for us both. I decided to go with my standard iced vanilla latte and my wife went with the same. We looked at the prices for small and larger drinks and I made the assumption that it would be 16oz and 20oz options as that's what we run into at 95% of the places we frequent. The staff did not try to up sell or really greet us as we walked up to order. I know they were busy but its the small things people take away from an experience that really add up and count. After a short wait the drinks were ready and we picked them up at the counter. I was immediately taken aback that the size of the drink was far smaller than what we expected and for a higher price point then what we normally get elsewhere for 16oz drinks. The other drawback for me was the syrup way overpowered the drink and its really all I tasted. We had to let the drink sit and dilute in the sun for the syrup flavor to mitigate enough for us to finish the drink. I will need to make a point to ask or specify 16oz when ordering drinks and see what options are available so that's on me but the flavor and quality was definitely not what I was looking for on an otherwise perfect little day trip. Despite the pitfalls I would definitely check them out again as I do believe in 2nd chances and sometimes it can be night and day upon return as we have run into this at several places. I appreciate these small businesses doing what they do and wish them nothing but the best and will chock up our experience to an off day. read more

We stopped by here after checking out some butterflies and having an amazing lunch. We love to check out local coffee shops and there were a number of them in this city, but this one was in walking distance from where we were so we checked them out. Service was okay. The people working didn't really talk and were very quiet. We both ordered an iced vanilla latte. I usually specify size due to an experience like we had here, but Steven ordered both and he usually doesn't need to worry about specifying, because usually the smaller ones are 16oz and a few places come in smaller, I think in 12. We waited quiet a bit and barely heard that our order was ready. The cups were very small, likely 12oz. I was surprised after seeing the cost too. I didn't hear the total but I remember it was 4.75 for this small one, and that was likely before adding a flavored syrup. Unfortunately it was way too sweet. It tasted like syrup with ice, but it was okay once the water diluted it a little bit. I wish I had specified the size like I often do, but I am not sure if it would have still been this sweet. Again, we just stopped by the area so we may have had an off day. I see that many people do enjoy this coffee shop. read more

We stopped by Surfdog's for a mid-day meal after doing some shopping at Hansen's across the street... There was actually a large group of us -- 3 families including 6 adults and 7 kids. Miraculously, everyone found something delicious to eat and drink! My kids can be particular, but they enjoyed their smoothies and bagels. My husband had an acai bowl and hot coffee and I had avocado toast and a cold brew with almond milk. Surfdog's is a fast casual, order at the counter and they bring it to you after type of local business. The service is super friendly and the food / drink was quality... There's street parking on S Coast Hwy 101, in front of this place but it was full when we arrived so we found parking around the corner. The entrance has lots of signs on it, including: - "A 5-foot wideclear path must be maintained on sidewalk at all times as per City of Encinitas Encroachment Permit requirements. We thank you for your assistance in helping us ensure a safe and enjoyable public sidewalk for all users" - "We are an ocean friendly restaurant. To learn more about the Surfrider Foundation and Ocean Friendly Restaurants, visit Go.Surfrider.org/ofr - "All dogs must be on a leash!! We love our doogie friends but please make sure to keep on a leash out of respect for others" When you walk in, there's painted walls and decorations everywhere. They have a sign for their free wifi. There's a door that leads to the outside seating. When you first step out, you see succulents and a small sign that says, "Please watch your step" You turn to the right and see some 2 person tables. We were the only customers there at the time. We ordered a coffee and a spice chai. She asked hot or cold for both drinks. There's a sign that says, "Credit card only thank you" and a tip jar that says, "You can't buy love, but it's worth a try" There's even an old wooden chair with a jar of dog biscuits for customers who bring their dogs (on a leash). The coffee wasn't sweet - I think maybe she didn't add any sweeter at first, so we asked for her to add more. But the spice chai was perfect - right temperature and right amount of flavor. read more
