The short of it: Dr. Renee is a great communicator, she's friendly, authentic, extremely experienced, and all around wonderful. You have come to the right place for chiropractic care (key word 'care'.., because Dr. Renee sure does care). The longer review: I reached out and described my pregnancy back pains in the last chunk of my pregnancy, and am so glad I did. I wish I'd found her as soon as I moved to the Bay Area! Dr Renee quickly responded to my initial email with empathy and solutions. She helped me through the remainder of my pregnancy with her dedication, experience, understanding, attention, care, and expertise. She helped me with my pubic bone pain, general tightness from having scoliosis, my tailbone pain, and overall wellness. After pregnancy, she's adjusted me and gone above and beyond to really help my body in its recovery. Dr. Renee is excellent. She cares, she is an amazing listener, she's not just experienced in her practice, but she truly understands what you go through during a pregnancy; not only is she superb with pregnancy adjustments, she's a pro with non-pregnancy ones. I started to see Dr. Renee in my late 2nd/early 3rd trimester of pregnancy because I was experiencing crippling sciatica and round ligament pain. After 2 adjustments my sciatica was gone and my round ligament pain was gone soon after. I wish I had gone to her sooner because I was desperately in need of her help. I was especially impressed with her skills because she did everything by feel since we couldn't take x-rays while I was pregnant. She really knows her stuff and right away I felt comfortable with her. I've continued my care after birth and couldn't wait to get in after I had the baby. Breastfeeding is really hard on my neck and upper back and I definitely feel the difference after I get adjusted. I recently learned my baby as Torticollis, which was preventing him from turning his head to the left. After trying to correct it on my own with no luck, I got the nerve to ask Dr. Renee for help. I'd never seen a baby adjustment before and was a little nervous. It was so gentle that my baby slept through his first adjustment! It looked like he was getting a little massage. Right away I saw him start to tilt his head to the left and every week he's been making more progress thanks to the adjustments. He will even sleep with his head turned to the ledt sometimes now, which is a HUGE deal for us. We started the adjustments shortly before he turned 2 months and he is now 3 months old. Dr. Renee is warm and welcoming, she is a natural healer with a fun but gentle energy. Her office is spacious, beautiful, and centrally located in Berkeley, and (most importantly) there is free designated parking! She has all the most current technology when it comes to chiropractic care, including (great for me) a Zaaz machine. Before seeing Dr. Renee I'd heard from other chronic pain sufferers that it helped them immensely, and so it was an amazing coincidence that she had one and that she thought I should start using it at my appointments. I've been to chiropractors before where you feel like a number, rushed in and laid down and the chiropractor ducks in for a few seconds to adjust you and is off again. Dr. Renee definitely spent time thoroughly assessing me before making any adjustments, and always checks in with me about how I'm doing. I highly recommend Dr. Renee. She has this genuine warmth and sunshine - she really knows how to make you feel welcome! I am 8 months pregnant and have been seeing her since I was 4 months pregnant and WOW - has it made a difference. I began seeing her with a limp and pain all along my spine and especially into the right side of my body. I could hardly turn my head. Immediately I began walking in stride again. Most of the time after my adjustments I feel my baby kicking and swirling around because it has so much more room in my pelvic bowl - so awesome! I not only feel better physically, but because of that I have been able to adapt to my body's changes with a lot more ease and confidence. I was skeptical of going to a Chiropractor. The great thing about Renee is she will evaluate your situation before doing any adjustments to determine if chiropractic therapy is right for you. PT got me back on my feet and helped manage the pain, but the back specialists I saw just wanted to do surgery because that is their normal course of action - not because it would fix my back or because surgery has a high success rate. Renee clearly explains anatomy, body mechanics, and how the healing process works. She is good about communicating what she will be doing. I can feel improvements in my posture and I have less tension. She is always positive, upbeat, and supportive. Combining adjustments with message and core strengthening helps the adjustment last and I am seeing the long terms results more quickly. I love this place. It is bright and sunny and Dr Renee is so sweet and cheerful and easygoing. Even though she is a slight person, she can move your bones around. She knows exactly how to get your back into shape, and uses x-rays and computer analysis to really understand your back and help you to understand it, also to help you chart and see your progress. She is definitely more on the technical side of the chiropractor spectrum (as opposed to Network care which is completely different). I've been working very closely with Dr. Renee to try to readjust the vertebrae in my back. I was in an accident over a year ago, but only started having severe pain about two months ago making it nearly impossible for me to walk or bend over. In the height of my pain I saw Kaiser several times and was prescribed pain killers, anti-inflammatory medication and eventually they gave me some drug that is supposed to "block neruo transmissions to kill nerve endings and make your body not feel the pain". Nothing against hospitals, but that was the point that I lost it and decided to seek medical care elsewhere and found Lotus Family Chiropractic It was her x-rays (Kaiser never took any) that made it very clear what was going on with my body and why I was having the pain I was having. I received my first adjustment from her and felt instant relief. I have now been seeing her 3x a week for just short of two weeks and feel like I'm a human being again. While Dr. Renee does not accept Kaiser insurance (I don't blame her), her prices are very affordable ranging from $35-$45/appointment depending on if you purchase a package or not. I've been debating writing this review for a while, but wanted to give fair warning to expecting moms/new moms about Renee's pracitce. First, I think she's a fine chiropractor. I've never seen anyone else, but I did get some pain relief due to pubic symphysis and some bulging discs. This review is becuase of the emotional scarring that was caused by visiting this practice. I saw Renee for months while I was pregnant and postpartum. I was very open about my struggles (c-section (had one), breastfeeding (supplemented with formula), sleeping (baby wouldn't so we sleep trained)) and seemingly always got support and compassion from Renee. Then one day some new signage in her office shows up discussing the benefits of chiropractic work on infants due to "trauma and stress" caused by vaccines, formula, sleep training, etc., all the things that by choice or circumstance we had engaged in. This "trauma" and "stress" is all based on psueoscience BS and really makes moms like me feel judged and tries to shame certain decisions we made or circumstances we've been placed in. I also totally don't feel comfortable bringing my baby into an office that espouses not vaccinating children (she told me that actually it's the vaccinated kids that pose more risk to the unvaccinated ones! oh please....). Anyways, I just want to warn any not super crunchy mamas out there that this may not be the practice for you if you don't want to feel judged and ashamed. read more
