So I walk into the salon 10 minutes before closing. I get turned away because they are closed. I don't know about everyone else, but a haircut that takes 15-30 minutes to cut should take customers at 10 minutes before closing. This also coming from a person who did provide retail and still does provide customer service. read more

I've grown up going to this place for a very long time with my mom to get both our nails and hair done-having thick curly 3b/3c hair they always struggled with dying, cutting and just understanding genetics apparently. Due to my mom being asian and me being black and asian our hair textures will obviously be different-but count on these people to remind us every single time we come here! one time i was 12 and a lady told me my hair was considered "unlucky" while my moms hair was considered "lucky". we didn't go back for years and somehow at 18 years old i never forgot that comment. Around the beginning of October of this year (2024) i dyed my moms hair at home as a way to spend time with my mom then after we came to this place because we thought it wouldn't be as bad years later and what can we say, we remember this shit being cheap. If there was an option for 0 stars, that's what they deserve. My mom went for a root touch up & the employee got hair dye in her eye. The employee was in a rush or something because she was applying the dye so quick. The salon didn't even have any eye cleaning solution. My mom's eye is currently super red, yellow/orange eye mucus, and irritating. If this does not improve, I'll press charges. For the root touch up, you can easily see a huge difference in the color from the rest of the hair. The roots are reddish brown! My mom has dark brown, almost black hair! Usually, other salons would comb through with the product on, but this one did not! The dome hair dryer was also super hot! Like, who the hell wants to fry their brain?! The Manager, Lina, is the owners daughter, thus, she tends to their family business with care! I love how she touches and cut my hair like magic! I go in with a hair like a witch, then, get out with a hair like a cornsilk! Love it! She doesn't charge that much compared to other places! It takes me months to have my hair cut, but when it's time for my next one, definitely, Lotus Hair Salon in Great Wall Shopping Mall is my first choice! They provide other hair services and full body waxing which I have yet to try, but, looking forward to have hair hot oil service next! I highly recommend this Salon, you won't regret it! The quality of the hair cut varies. Many times, the ladies cut your hair very fast, but could not cut the hair even. I guess they care about getting more customers and more tips than quality. That is very short visioned. I usually give a very generous tip. But often times, that did not stop someone telling me that I went to that place again, even week after the haircut. Customer service is another shortcoming. Last time even after I sit in the barber chair, the hairdresser was still trying to put up her makeup. I am going there for a damn haircut and I am not going there to see beauty pageants. I careless about how short your skirt is or how much cleavage you are showing. The place has been charging $8.00 haircuts for men since I knew them at Great Wall. That is almost $20 years! You get what you pay for, but you can get a pretty stylish and modern haircut if you ask and you know what you are doing. Wait times may be long at times, but you can avoid waiting by asking for a specific stylist. They will put you next in line after that stylist is done with their current client. So, I think it does help to be more of a regular. I think this place is good if you want a great value for your haircut but not overly picky. My mom came back home from her hair cut and it looked absolutely disgusting and the treatment from the girls there were horrible. I had to spend my morning fixing her hair the best I can. All she wanted was a trim on her short hair. She always wears a bob cut and it grew out a bit, so what should have been a simple trim, looked like something but chunks of her hair out. Scraggly, uneven inner layer was obviously longer and the outer layer of her hair too short, and so short that I can hardly fix it. She told me she asked the girls for a simple cut and they told her to be quiet and just let the girl cut how she likes, you don't get a choice. And they said they couldn't believe they got such a customer early in the morning that has an opinion on how their hair should be cut. Um...what? Is this not a hair salon? Where people tell you how they want their hair? It was also a simple trim, how incompetent are you? My mom is older and too nice, so she just sat there, while the girl tugged on her hair, hit her on the head multiple times with the comb, and poked her head hard constantly while cutting her hair. My mom will never be going there again, and they're lucky I wasn't there with my mom when she went. There were two ladies gossiping and were very inconsiderate because they think you don't speak Vietnamese cause you didn't speak the language to them so they assume you can't understand or speak it as well so they go on bad mouthing you. That doesn't excuse them for giving me one of the worst experiences for one the simplest task of all: a hair wash and a blow dry. This is not my place to go for hair styling; this is my boyfriend's place because no one else knows how to deal with his hair. It was my luck that when I stood up, the angriest looking lady told me to sit in her chair of death. So I sat down, and I told her that all I wanted was a wash and a blow dry. She just stared at me and told me to sit at their dirty washing station. When I got my hair shampooed/conditioned, she didn't look at what her hands were doing once. Watching her eyes, I knew that she was looking at who would be her next customer. Like, who actually isn't going to waste my time here? That pissed me off because it's not like I took that much time. When she blew dried my hair, again, she glanced at what my hair looked like briefly. She kept pulling my hair back and it tugged on my earrings until they were red and sore. Her attention was more focused on who was next in her hands-of-steel rather than taking a minute to comb through my hair nicely. Even her hands matched the angry look at her face. Enough was enough. I advise anyone to proceed with caution. At the price they offer, you should expect the lowest grade service that shows very little concern with your hair. I don't think I'm EVER coming back here again. Yeah, its fast and "efficient" but this salon is not my cup of tea. My mom brought my brothers and I here today and the workers got to us right away. We usually go to Kim's Hair Salon down on MLK, but my mom was going grocery shopping so she pushed us into this salon. For one of my brothers, he showed one of the girls exactly what he wanted, a fauxhawk, she ended up just shaving his hair right across. Not only that, but its really crooked and its like he has a big dent in his hair. It was as if they were rushing to get everyone out of there. For my other brothers, they did fairly well. When he showed them what he wanted, this other girl looked a little annoyed. She said she couldn't cut it because his hair length wasn't the same, so I told her to just trim his hair. She was sort of bitchy. For myself, I just wanted to get my bangs trimmed. The lady literally sprayed my face with water and cut straight across. I had asked her to cut it so it was the length to my eyes, but she cut it to the point where my bangs are mid-forehead. I also pointed out I want SIDE bangs. She didn't even want to dry it until she saw me eyeing the blowdryer. It also didn't help that the women were talking about their customers as well (in a negative manner). I mean, at least do it when people aren't around to hear. She still charged my mom 10 dollars for my trim. So to sum it up, if I wanted a bad haircut, I would've just done it myself. I feel rushed at a lot of times cause it's a place where you just come in no appts. The owners do the best job on hair cuts and trimming and they make my eyebrows look good. Sometimes you can tell on how your hair is going to look by looking at the person who is doing your hair.. I loved them at first.. but I'm changing stylists!! I will probably come back once in a whike for a few trims. But the hair cuts make me look a little too asian (choppy and too layery)too much razor blade usage... yea can't be having that! If I can give this place a -1 I would. So it's Memorial Day and this place was open. I took it given that my 2 kids needed a haircut before school the following day. I usually avoid this place because of bad reviews, but our need for services need to come before me being picky-- so I gave it chance. When we arrived, we haven't even settled in or discussed what we wanted for a haircut, this older lady started tapping her seat going "haircut, HURRY! HURRY!" Way to treat customers! My 6 years old was visibly terrified. But off my kiddo goes to her seat anyway because we didn't have a choice that time. Then this lady literally starts to argue with me about the hairstyle. And note, my son and I have not discussed a hairstyle as I was planning to show him pictures from one of their hairstyle books. She goes, how short while tugging my son's hair and she didn't understand what 'inch' mean. (Like how do you possibly do hair if you don't know what an inch mean?) She probably caught on the atmosphere and vibe that I'm an inch to smacking her from pulling my sons hair-- she goes and attempt to compliment how young I am to have kids. I've been going here for almost a year now, and I must say: it's fantastic! The first time I came here was because of the name 'Lotus', which is one of my favorite flowers. The lady who does my hair is very nice, and she knows exactly which hairstyle suited me. This place is pretty busy, but while you wait you can take a stroll around the Great Shopping Mall and then come back in a few minutes. I just came from Lotus two hours ago; it was the worst service that I got and left there very dissatisfied. First the technician's facial language showed that she don't want to do it - they cut hair, wax and nails as their signs noted. No interaction, just clean your nail and paint it , no lotions/massage your legs; after she's done with my fingernails -she just said wait for few minutes that's it. I had to call their attention if I'm done cuz she did not check back . Suggestion- Lotus should just take out nails from their sign so that people will not ask that service . One really can't complain when you get a $8 haircut. You do indeed get what you pay for. But that isn't what really makes this place plummet in Star Value. First off they aren't very honest, as I was down the street heading there my friend and I were in a hurry and so I called to ask how long the wait was, the lady told me no one is waiting and we can get in right away so come on in. Three minutes later we walk in and there are 6 people ahead of us (coincidence? i think not). As we waited - there was no organization of who was next. How hard is it to get a piece of paper and a pen and write down names? So people were confused as to who was next and who came first. Just so unorganized. As I watched people getting their haircut - I noticed one thing. Every guy walked out with the same haircut. High fade and trimmed off the top. Desperate to get cleaned up for the weekend - I bit the bullet and got a haircut anyways. She asked my how I wanted it done and I said 1/2 on the sides, up into a faux hawk. I ended up with a high fade with a little off the top... no line up, no faux hawk, not even 1/2 on the sides. I didn't say anything as my buddy paid for my cut and I get it cut every two weeks anyways. This is the only place that I know that can cut my asian hair and its inexpensive. I'm picky who cust my hair, but the ladies here do a pretty good job for me. Men, in the summer time, sometimes you can be treated to some eye candy. Its been $8 for a guys haircut since I been going there and I always tip well. Unless you speak fluent Viet, you might not be able to understand what these ladies are saying about you, but they can understand what kind of cut you need. They recently did a remodel last year, and its always busy here, but you don't wait long. I've been here twice now. It is now my go to spot for haircuts. Found this place since my parents were shopping next door and I needed a haircut. I really liked it. It just seems like the stylist knew exactly what I wanted. My brother on the other hand, picked out a hair style from the book, and it totally did not turn out like that. It was cut wayy too short. According to him, he will not be back. Me on the other hand, loved my haircut! I went there again for my 2nd haircut last week and coincidentally, it was the same hair stylist.
