We asked what table we were able to sit in because we planned to dine in. My boyfriend had to order upfront: an Ichiban beer (which he liked) & our food (Pad Prik/Habachi Chicken w Extra vegetables/ 1Cali & 1Philly Roll. While sitting at the front table behind the togo station, near the front cashier, our food was called & packed in a togo brown bag where we had to get up from our table to receive it. I asked multiple times for the older waitress to bring me a water as I am pregnant and was thirsty; it was like pulling teeth. This is Columbia's hidden gem! Lotus Thai has THE BEST pho in the area, no contest. I have been getting pho at the same old place for years, but I've recently become unhappy with the quality of the food so I was excited to come across Lotus Thai in the Columbia Eats Facebook group advertising a wonderful looking pho. The broth wasn't murky or filled with sediment from the seasoning, it was beautifully clear and EXTREMELY flavorful. You don't *need* to add anything to make it taste amazing, but I still added some sriracha for the spice! They give you a jalapeño slices, Thai basil, lime, and bean sprouts to put in your soup and came with onion, green onion, and cilantro already in it. The noodles were perfect, too. I really couldn't be happier with my selection. My friend got the Green chicken curry with that came with white rice, and it was amazing as well. She got a medium spice level and was happy with it, it wasn't burn your mouth off hot, but definitely brought the heat. I tried a little bit and I know I'll have to get my own plate of it next time, if I can resist the pho! The sushi was great and most importantly FRESH MADE! The sushi rice was a little extra sticky, but it didn't take away from the flavor at all. We got shrimp dumplings and calamari to start with and again, we were very pleased. Everything was served hot (temperature, not spicy) and fresh, the presentation was really nice, and the service was great! Service with a smile is the best kind. Our waitress asked if we had any questions, answered any that we had, and gave us some of the back info about the family that runs the joint. There are Thai, Japanese, Lao, and Vietnamese options on the menu and the chef is well trained in all aspects. I'm not sure I've seen Lao options at other places, so I'm definitely going to be giving that a try soon, too. The establishment was quaint, comfortable, and clean. I'll give you guys 50 stars because it seems like this restaurant is overlooked, partially because it is new and tucked away in the outskirts of garners ferry. Everything on the menu is delectable. I prefer to stick with just the Thai options. I think this restaurant is trying to do pan- Asian cuisine, by throwing in sushi and pho into the mix. Personally, to me, it cheapens the authenticity of the experience. To each their own. Please give this place your business. read more

This may be good for Columbia but in generally no way - not for my standards, which are high, since I have actually visited Thailand for three weeks, and lived in LA, NYC, SFO and Portland, OR all of which has some amazing asian food. I did have the fresh shrimp rolls and they were okay but the peanut sauce was funky - more soy sauce than anything. And pad thai with tofu. 4 1/2 stars? Seriously? I may be spoiled because I live close to a fair number of good Thai restaurants. In my area of the country this Thai restaurant would go out of business. It's not that the food is inedible, It's just that it's really dumbed down Thai food. There's no fish sauce, no chopped peanuts, I had to add hot sauce to my "medium" spicy noodles. To be fair, somebody didn't show up for work today, so service was slow. Having to wait, however, did not enhance my experience, since the kitchen looks like a dump. If you're hungry, it will fill your belly. There's plenty of food and it isn't horrible. If you want an intro to a facsimile of Thai food, this will do the job. Oh, my! What deliciousness!! I ordered a Red Dragon roll and vegetable hibachi. That roll was perfection! The ingredients were obviously high quality. The hibachi veggies were fresh and flavorful but not saturated in sauce. It was very clean to my palate. You can't go wrong eating here! read more

The Health Department needs to make a visit to this place. It's horrible. Summer Rolls and Poke (with tuna & salmon) weren't even edible. We should have taken the hint upon arrival (during the dinner rush) when the place was empty! The service was just as bad. We went to Lotus Thai, last night for the first time. We had the Calamari, I had Chicken Massaman Curry, my wife had the Shrimp and Scallop Choo Chee curry. I cannot say I have had any better curry, Calamari was at the level of the best any where. My Wife loved her food as well. This place is a little hard to find, but I would say go there or get carryout. We are already planning our return and what to try next time. Timid at first but glad we came and dined at this new Thai restaurant in the Columbia, SC area. Came right before the dinner rush which proved to be great timing based on the speed of service received (couldn't say the same for those during the dinner rush, you do have to cut them some slack since it was their opening night). All in the service was great and all the servers were working their best to ensure you had a good time at their restaurant. Now onto the food... the answer is Yes! I currently live in East Asia and I'm visiting Columbia for the weekend and I can say the food I received yesterday was comparable to some dishes I receive in Asia. Can't say they are exactly the same, but it's probably the best you can get around this area. My recommendation is if you are in the area, why not try out this new place, give yourself some time and a little patience since they are a new, but you will most likely enjoy the meal. read more

I was craving Pho and noticed these guys have been in my neighborhood and since it was a cold evening (49°), I gave them a try. Clean place, busy during dinner and now I'm getting a bit excited since the last time I had Pho was in Houston over 6 months ago and it was amazing. Both my daughter and I ordered a bowl, and I devoured it. The noodles and fixings were great, but something was off about the broth (broth should be almost clear) so I masked it with Hoisin and tons of Sriracha which helped. It was my daughter's first time trying Pho and let's just say she wished she ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi that the girls on the table next to us ordered.
