**PLEASE READ** I'm coming here because I know a lot of my past families loved eating at Basil thai columbia . As of today the owner came in without notice and regard of the people that have worked for him for years fired the entire staff and said He didn't care about the time and effort his staff as put into the restaurant. Behind the scenes we have work in conditions that is not acceptable for someone that's runs a business. He has no empathy for the staff who's lives have been impacted by this sudden choice to shut down. These people have families that they provide for and all he can say is "I Don't Care". We the staff have made Basil what it is, we are the ones that kept it afloat while he's drops by once every few years. Anytime things are broken or an issue comes up it is THE STAFF that fixes it, not him. read more

I have eaten here many times (more than 20). The food is tasty environment is good. The takeout order communication and timeliness along with the timeliness of receiving food when eating in the restaurant are terrible. Multiple times now we have been given a time to pickup takeout and shown up at that time only to be told there was another 30+ minutes to wait for the order. A simple call to tell us the timeline was extended or a better initial wait time would save the egregious abuse of customer time. Should the management improve these issues, this place has great potential to be awesome! read more

Basil has a nice ambiance and a dope playlist. The sake drink was well balanced and definitely complemented my meal exceptionally well. The volcano shrimp were cooked perfectly but the broccoli wasn't seasoned at all. Frankly my review is based on the price point. Paying $40 for five pieces of grilled shrimp is rather extreme in my opinion. The waitress was nice and the service was on par aside from her forgetting my appetizer which was then sold out however another table received the "last one" after I was informed that there weren't any left. Might come for a drink and the vibes but will save the funds for a better dining experience elsewhere. read more

I've eaten at Basil's in Mt Pleasant and CHS for years. Have always loved it!!!! This location was subpar and can't compare. Both the pad Thai and fried rice were extremely dry and had no flavor. So we've returned 3x, we really wanted to love this place because there are actual Thai cooks in the kitchen, but when we asked what was going on with the food- we were told that they water it down for the American palette, what a shame because it loses its authenticity. The last time we were there, we let the chef make what they wanted for us, it was still a bust. PLUS my husband had a plastic bag in his to-go drink. The three flavor fish is always amazing. It's crispy and the flavor is great. The pad Thai and pad see ew were decent. The steak in the beef salad was burnt. The Thai tea was sugar water. When we asked for more tea to fix it, we were told we would be charged for another tea. We just sent it back. The sweet and sour soup with shrimp was extremely salty. We poured in some hot water but it didn't fix it. Some of the rice had really hard pieces. Service was okay. It would have been better if the guy stayed with us. He was attentive and let us switch tables when we asked. It was awkward when we walked in. Everyone either ignored us or stared at us awkwardly. Nobody said anything when we left. Our wait staff was not very friendly. She probably got tired of us trying to fix our food. We wanted dessert but nobody asked and we lost our appetite with the salty and burnt foods. I like Basil Thai for the most part, but it is a bit pricey for what you get and the basic food quality. I have never dined in, only picked up or DoorDash. The ambience seems pretty cool, and the hostess's customer service is always great. Calling in to place an order is always a breeze, and I haven't ever had any issues when I have ordered through DoorDash. I have never had an issue with my food. The portion of rice is decent. It can be split between two people. The wings are pretty good as well. and can also be split between two people. The only other thing I've ever had is their spring rolls, which are decent, but sometimes they get soggy. Again, I like basil, but I do think it is overpriced for the quality. read more

We started out ordering the basil spring rolls as an appetizer. When we bit into them, we both realized they did not contain basil as advertised. When the server FINALLY came back to our table, we told her the situation. She told us they were out of basil! My friend asked her why she didn't tell us that when we ordered. She got all huffy and said,"They've got me taking care of SO MANY tables! I've got ALL the tables in the front PLUS 3 tables back here!! She just walked away..we were left speechless..her answer had nothing to do with our issue. I ordered chicken lettuce wraps s..when they came, I got a core of lettuce I couldn't even make a wrap! Our server NEVER came back to our table except to give us the bill... Horrible experience. They need better help and kitchen supervision...and hey..Whole Foods is next door, so buy some basil nextime! read more

Very meh. Classy interior but indifferent staff and very bland, basic, overpriced food. The Basil Thai in Charleston (if related as I presume it is) used to be very good--have not tried in a while though. This one seems to coast on location, atmosphere, and maybe reputation. I got a ginger chicken stir-fry which was very bland. Should it be spicy? No, but it should have some ginger flavor at least which it really lacked. The spice tray I requested was all spicy sauces and no dry hot pepper which is a staple for Thai spice trays. The serve was pleasant enough but at the same time seemed slow and indifferent--and they were not that busy, either. I doubt I'd go back--there are other Thai restaurants in town and apparently better rated. I'll try them. read more

Date night failure! With several open tables, we were sat in the front by the bar on the high tables directly in the blinding setting sun. No waitress...until we initiated the reminder after a good 15 minutes. 30 minutes later, reluctantly served 2 egg rolls as appetizers that could have been easily outdone by your Sam's club air fryer option at 4x's the cost. The main course entree's continued the downward trajectory. (1) A pool of soupy red salsa/honey shrimp mixed with cold rice. (2) Pad Thai, far from any had ever experienced. I'm To cap it off,...$$$$$$. The final check for two,...gulp! Save your appetite/wallet/marriage and go to Sam's Club instead. This restaurant is definitely one you have to check out. The drinks are delicious and on point (not watered down). I was disappointed with the fish, it was smoothed in sauce and at one point i thought it was a soup. When i finally found the fish it was not impressive especially because the last time I came here i was so impressed with all the entrees we ordered. My husband enjoyed the wings (a bit dry) though and the duck was good and well favored. The wontons were a disappointment. Now i will tell you we came an hour before they closed so they may have been tired because they have done so much better in the past...the reason why I didn't give them a 2 star review. The waitress was sweet but was overworked and ready to go and seemed inexperienced. I will come back and try again because like I said before they were better in the past. We've been regulars for several years and the food is always spectacular! The pad se eu and duck pho are favorites.

I've wanted to come here for a while but their hours are a bit weird. But I came today for lunch and the food is definitely tasty. But it feels overpriced for both the quality and time of day ($24 for chicken pad Thai at lunch). Plus the menus haven't been updated, so it says that shrimp and chicken pad Thai is $16 which isn't true anymore. Overall, nice place but I doubt I'll be returning. read more

This is my favorite Thai spot in SC. They have a nice drink menu and great food choices. I went there on. Tuesday and tried the Basil mixed seafood. I liked it soo much I went back for takeout on Friday. The fact that they are on my way home from work is a very good thing...for me. read more

I always enjoy our trips to Basil. I have been to the locations in Charlotte as well and they are just as great. To start your meal do not miss the delicious Thai Tea and Basil Rolls. The peanut dipping sauce that comes with the Basil Rolls could make a flip flop taste good. The crab and chicken wontons are so crispy and delicious with the creamy cream cheese filling. I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with any of their entrees but my favorite is the Pad Thai. It tastes so traditional and with a little sambal chili paste it has the perfect amount of heat. read more

This place wildly exceeded my expectations! We had Thai chicken wings and stuffed shrimp for appetizers, and both were fried to perfection. I don't know what they do to those wings, but the flavor and texture was delicious. The dipping sauces that came with each added to the flavor. For entrees, I had the shrimp barramundi, which came with lightly fried fish and my husband had the volcano shrimp. Again, the flavors were just so unique and delicious. A bowl of Jasmine rice came with our meal. Our taste buds were definitely delighted. For dessert we had the fried ice cream, which came with pineapple coconut ice cream. That dish was a whole experience unto itself! We were greeted when we entered and our waiter was attentive. The atmosphere was laid back, but we did go early evening on a Wednesday night. I highly recommend reservations. We will definitely be back to try more of this wonderful menu. read more

I've had Pad Thai all sorts of ways and here was another great experience of something new.The flavor was not spicy but sweet! Quick Tip: If you'd like to add some spice ask for the Spice Rack! And it will not let you down!! I also was hungry while waiting on a friend and decided to try their Fresh Basil Rolls. They were soft and a small 2 count filled me up just enough of what I needed to wait for the entree. Loved the peanut sauce cannot go wrong with this appetizer. And lastly my local friend let me in on another great secret here is ordering the Margarita! About 10 minutes after that the restaurant called me to let me know that they had only one order of pho so we agreed that they would replace the second order of pho with fried rice. When my husband got there, they had no pho available and they offered to give us a full credit since they had already charged me. I never received the credit. I never received the food. Sad to say Thai basil is really not up to standards. We dined in tonight and our wait service was spotty, they were not slammed and had staff standing around chatting. The food was meh, noodles overcooked and flavorless. Husband ordered a chicken dish and the chicken pieces were too large for eating with chopsticks. I wanted hot tea and was told they were out and had been all night as the general manager wasn't there to get tea out of storage? WTH? Really, someone couldn't go down to Whole Foods for tea bags? I was very excited about my meal and wanted to like this place, but it fell short of what I expected. I ordered a Pad Kee Mow (Noodles and Rice) and selected Thai Hot Spice for my spice level. I also ordered a Masaman (Mild) (Curries) and selected Thai Hot Spice for my spice level. Since I'm ordering a lot of spicy food, I'd treat myself to a Sticky Mango (Seasonal) (Desserts). Since I had an appointment, I ordered my food for an hour in the future so that I could swing by after my meeting. After ordering, I get a message 22 minutes later that my food is ready. I was a little upset because It would be another 38 minutes before my scheduled pick-up time, and my food would sit there. After I picked up my food, I was disappointed as the Pad Kee Mow was medium at best, and the Masaman Curry was mild but honestly more sweet than anything else. read more

Fresh food served promptly and professionally. Priced on the slightly higher side of what we are used to but fresh ingredients are not as affordable as they once were. Atmosphere and ambiance were very good and there is ample parking. I think we will have to try this place again to get a better read on their food but it was a solid choice for the Columbia Thai food sector. read more
