If I'm being honest, Lou Malnati's didn't quite live up to the hype this time. The deep dish looks amazing when it comes out, but once you get into it, it felt kind of average. The crust had that signature buttery style, but it leaned a bit too heavy and didn't have the crisp I was hoping for. The cheese and sauce were solid, but nothing that really stood out compared to other Chicago spots. It's filling for sure, just not something I'd go out of my way for again. Couldn't go to Chicago and not having deep dish pizza for sure, and Lou Malnati has been the safe go-to given taste and accessibility! Also knowing they did deliver was such a plus point for convenience. Pre-order ahead had to be very early before the actual desired time though, in my case it's 2 hours probably given the line and prep time. We got the Mike's Hot Honey, served with plenty of toppings including the generous pepperoni. It's mild in spiciness so worry not if you couldn't handle something overly spicy. We stopped here on the way and on the way back from a week in Rockford. It was the place where we hoped to get the quintessential Chicago style pizza and it was just "meh." We did takeout on the way into Rockford and sat down on the way to O'hare. I was hoping a fresh pizza would have been better while hot out of the oven but it was just OK. The service was sub-par as they clearly did not have enough workers to help the guests that were dining at noon on a Saturday! The space itself was just OK with nothing truly interesting. Our family had Martin Luther King Jr. Day off so we took our girls to Kohl Children Museum in Glenview. This location is 25 minutes away from the children museum so it is not exactly close. However, this location has dine-in and it is along the way for us to be home bound. It looks like a lot of the suburban Lou Malnati's locations are primarily take-out only. We were warmly greeted right at the door around lunchtime, which set the tone for a great meal. We ordered two pizzas--a vegetarian and a pepperoni deep dish--along with drinks. As expected, deep dish takes a while to cook (about 45 minutes), but it was worth every second. When the pizzas came out, they were bubbling hot and absolutely delicious. This was my first time having true Chicago deep dish, and I wasn't sure what to expect. The crust was almost like a fresh sourdough--thick, flavorful, and the perfect base for all that sauce and cheese layered on top. The pepperoni was my favorite: the sauce was rich, the cheese perfectly gooey, and the flavor all around was amazing. The vegetarian was also really good, though I felt it could have used just a little more punch in the sauce. Still, both pizzas were excellent and very filling. There were six of us dining, and two lunch-size pizzas were more than enough--we even had leftovers to take with us. Prices were a little higher than I initially expected, but honestly fair for the quality and portion sizes. They also had ready-to-go pizzas at the front, which looked like a great option if you're short on time. I had anticipated your typical Italian theme and color palate, but was greeted by warm wood tones, industrial vibes, and farm and farmhouse decor. Our server was friendly and helped us decide on the sizes of pizzas we should order based on how hungry we were. We ordered both a thin crust with just cheese and a classic deep dish with the sausage in it and butter crust. The pizza wasn't as heavy or dense as I thought it would be, but it definitely reminded me of a savory pie. I thought the thin crust was ok. I really enjoyed the sauce and the cheese. Overall, the ambiance was 90s nostalgia, it reminded me of the 90s pizza huts where you were able to eat inside. Our wait or was super attentive and gave great customer service! I had done my research and everything I read said to get the "Lou", which essentially has a bunch of veggies. My husband and I were not disappointed. The taste was spectacular. I flew in to Chicago from New York City for the weekend just for fun and to spend some time with a friend. I had wanted to try deep dish pizza in the place it was born, so after looking through reviews and opinions from the locals, I decided Lou Malnati's would be my first sample. The restaurant had a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and the servers were great. When it came to the food, the flavors were on point and authentically Italian. For appetizers, we ordered the meatballs with burrata and Lou's salad (which was huge). Both tasted great. For pizza, we got the classic Lou's pie, with nothing added or altered - I just wanted to try the original before experimenting more. The flavors of the cheese and sauce went so well together, and I loved the layer of sausage right underneath the sauce The butter crust is really different from other pizza I've had, but I thought it was delicious and a great compliment to the deep dish style. It's crispy, but not crumbly. I'm not the kind of person that says one pizza is better than another, and coming here I feel that even more. I'm back home now in New York, and wishing I could have another slice sometime soon. Lucky me, it looks like Lou's is opening a place in Brooklyn sometime in 2026. Can't wait! read more

The 1 star is for the waitress we had. She was fantastic. My Husband & I dined in early for Christmas Eve, yesterday. We ordered a thin pizza. The pizza was awful! It was baked in a pan. The ends seemed cooked. But the rest of the pizza was not cooked all the way. It was as if someone threw a big glob of cheese in the middle & did not care if it was cooked or not. Horrible! The place inside is nice but needs the walls cleaned or painted. Very dirty. For the high prices a pizza should get cooked the right way. We will go to Mariano's next time. Lunch on Tuesday was good. We called about 25 minutes ahead so that pizza was ready and sounds like this tactic is commonplace. Chicago classic pizza with sausage had great chunky tomato sauce and house sausage. Crust is good but seems like something you could make at home. Buffalo wings were big, fried, dipped in buffalo sauce and tasty. Pretty classic style wing. Ranch was prob house made and I actually prefer the store bought stuff. Spinach bread was like a biscuit filled with cheese, spinach and seasoning. It's good but really messy. Service was quick and friendly. Seems very old fashioned and community oriented. I was in Chicago for 12 hours for a conference and had to secure my very first true Chicago deep dish pizza. I went with the small old Chicago with olives and pepperoni in half only so I could try the true sausage only style. Pepperoni ended up on the whole thing but I really couldn't complain too much because it was so good!! It was hot, cheesy, and flavorful!! I didn't think I would finish the whole thing but I was on a roll and wanted to finish it when it was fresh. It's not 3 hours after finishing the small and I am still in physical pain. 10/10 would recommend this pizza. 10/10 would recommend not over stuffing yourself on this pizza ! We got in late on a Tuesday night, but this restaurant was open until 11pm so it wasn't a problem. Since there were 3 of us, we ordered a medium, half pepperoni and half just cheese, with a butter crust. The pizza was outstanding! A couple of slices and a cold beer was just what we were looking for. The ambience here is very cool. Just an old time Chicago classic! We had my Mom's Celebration of Life in LM private room in the front. It's the perfect size for a group of 30 people and we were able to mingle, as well as have ample seating room. The food arrived when we asked for it, it was hot, delicious, and the staff were very accommodating. It's a hard thing to celebrate the passing of someone you love so deeply, but LM has been there for us for two of these occasions, as well as our normal visits. I did not take any photos. While out here we knew we wanted to try Chicago style pizza. We heard good things about Lou. We ordered the traditional wings and the Malnati classic with chicken sausage. We were seated quickly when we got there. Our pizza took a while to come but our waiter did warn us. The utensils were very dirty with food still on them. We asked for plastic instead. The wings were really good. The pizza on the other hand was alittle disappointing. The problem was the chicken sausage. It had a very gamey taste. Which made the whole pizza not good. We suggested to the waited the sausage should have cooked separately and not raw meat then layered with cheese and sauce. Also it was pretty pricey our total was $75.00 for the pizza and wings. I will try a different place and probably just cheese. But I do recommend trying this place out. My experience shouldn't deter you from trying. read more

Luckily, there was one close to the airport so we put our order in an hour before our desired pickup time. We didn't get to eat it until after we got home. Even when it's cold, the pizza was still amazing. The following day, we heated it up in the air fryer and it was even better! The sausage was amazing! The ratio of sauce, cheese, and sausage is perfect! The crust was just the right thickness. While there a lot of good pizza places in Chicago I have found no matter which Lou's I eat at the food is always & I mean always perfect. Lou's has their pizza to a science so no matter which one you go to you know that you will get an excellent pizza. I even have the Lou Malnati's AP on my phone. So for youse guys that don't know Lou's has an AP and whenever you buy anything at Lou's you score points. Had a delayed flight in Chicago and stopped here, being about 15min from the airport it wasn't too far out of the way. We looooooved eating here. Our server was so sweet and helpful even when we asked for many extra things for our drinks. I lost my voice the day before and asked for so much honey and lemon, our sever was quick about it before my tea even cooled down. It's cozy and spacious inside, built well with a slight a/c "breeze". Recommend bringing a light jacket if you're wearing summer attire. Really refreshing to get out of the heat. We ordered bruschetta and "The Lou" and it was super delicious. Bruschetta was definitely worth it, savory sweet. Came with 8 good size pieces. For the pizza, a large was too big for our four people, we all ate half and took home the other half. It has been a long time since we dined in at Lou Malnati's and the deep dish is so much better than their take out. We noticed the restaurant appeared so much brighter, and the waitress shared they usually don't have all the lights on, but it looked so much better than I remembered, but still had the old charm. We had the Malnati salad, one of my favorites. The individual size is enough to feed 2-3 people. The sweet vinaigrette dressing was so good. For pizza, we had the Chicago Classic.
