Small and locally owned, Chef Grill is a great addition to the Elk Grove village area. It's located in an industrial part of EGV which concerns me somewhat, but I really hope this place continues to thrive. Service was very slow. My group wasn't checked in on unless we stared down at the staff. The food did make up for the slow service though. I went with the staffs recommendation and tried the Adana kebab. I can completely understand why this dish is a customer favorite. It was juicy and very flavorful. The aroma alone makes The Chef Grill the champion of Turkish and Mediterranean grilled cuisine. If I could bottle it, I'd put a little dabby on my neck every night before bed, and then dream I'm prancing through kebab fields in a tutu. This is a happening place. They decorated it with hanging plants, some art, a fish tank. A slight haze of smoke. Desserts on display. I'd say the finest work of art here are the prepped skewers, waiting to be thrown on their charcoal grill. My gaze was fixed on the meat display as if I was Cookie Monster at Crumbl. I composed myself and took a seat. They have great hot and cold appetizers. They have breakfast! Check out their menu, I've included a pic. Lahmacun is a crunchy brick oven flatbread with ground meat. It feels so light, airy, and crunchy, you could eat the whole thing and later say "..um, I ate the whole thing". We ordered a few King Chef's mixed grill platters. It is a medley of filet morsels, chicken, lamb chops, shawarma, shish kebab, and many other things, along with bulgar and fries. Why are their fries so good? Okay, so I know we're just talking about lemonade, but their house made lemonade is so good. We also loved their tea. We went way overboard on desserts. We just kept pointing at sharable items like John Travolta to the Bee Gees. All of the desserts were delicious. For some reason, the simplest of them, rice pudding, won the dessert battle that day. If you are looking for fresh quality food then you've found it here! The Chef Grill is a nice little restaurant that serves authentic Turkish delights and Mediterranean fare. The inside is decorated nicely and offers a nice setting for dining in. We ordered carryout as we were coming from the gym. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and had a glass of Turkish tea while we waited for our order. They have so much to offer on their menu and there are items that cater to everyone's diets. All the food is made out front and you can see that they are all very fresh ingredients. We ordered the kababs and Iskender plate. The take out was nicely plated and packaged very nicely. The kababs and most meats are charcoal grilled here which gives you a unique and delicious flavor. The Iskender was generously portioned and was very flavorful with the in house made bread. We drove all the way from Buffalo Grove to Elk Grove Village just to try Chef's Grill because it was Halal and it had high ratings. Boy were we disappointed. Food: They were out of one of the menu items we wanted to try, so two of us had to choose something different. We changed our order to the fish and chicken kabob. I literally was choking on a small fish-bone I accidentally swallowed (the waitress should probably warn anyone ordering this meal to be careful of the very small bones). My mashed potatoes looked like a sloppy soup. All the meat had a "gamey" taste to it. We were wondering how everything had the same gamey taste - the chicken, beef, and lamb. We assumed it was that they marinade the different meat in one container and it's blending the taste of all the meat. The bread was the only thing we had that was actually pretty good. The sad thing is we were so disappointed by the food we were afraid to order dessert. Service: The young Turkish woman serving our table was kind and helpful, and this is what brought up my rating to a two star, but the food overpowered the rating, because that's the reason you are going to this place. Ambiance: It was cute. It's small and had a diner feel with the booths, but there were too many flies. I was trying to kill them, because it's so gross having flies landing on your food and your guest of honor's food whom I invited to experience a special lunch before they left the U.S. Overall, we were very disappointed, and I was embarrassed and apologizing to them for suggesting this place. ESPECIALLY driving so far and paying over $170 for four people to eat LUNCH at a diner with flies and gamey meat. Come on - do better! Not many Turkish restaurants in the burbs. I went to Thousand Tales, that one was pretty solid but also very busy. Parking can be horrible on the weekend. This one is much more manageable, parking is way easier. At least you don't have far to walk. We were a group of 4 and we just walked in without reservation. I recommend getting a reservation on the weekend. Middle Eastern people love getting dinner late, especially 7 PM to close. You'll be surprised at how busy it still gets at like 9 PM and after. We ordered cig kofte, lamahcun, king chef mixed grill (4-5 ppl), pistachio and cheese kunefe, orange pistachio semolina with ice cream, and pistachio cheesecake. This is about 4.5 but I'll round it to 5 here. Prices are competitive with Thousand Tales. Service is better here and much more attentive. -cig kofte 4 - this is a traditional Turkish cold dish. It has some spice. Good flavor. Make sure you squeeze some lemon onto it before eating. You eat it with lettuce. I didn't love it but it was interesting to try. -lamahcun 5 - Turkish pizza. We got two pieces, 1 piece is big enough to split between two people. You add the ingredients to a piece, then roll it up like a burrito. That's how you eat it. These are pretty good and a popular appetizer. -king chef mixed grill 5 - this has chicken shish, chicken adana, lamb shish, lamb adana, lamb chops, lamb shawarma, meatballs, beyti kebab, arugula salad, rice, bulgur, and French fries. French fries are really crispy. The rice and bulgur are delicious, you can taste the flavor. I like to eat the arugula salad on top of my meat with the sauce. It gives it more taste. All of the meat was very good. Chicken was surprisingly tender. All of the lamb and meatballs were great. I highly recommend this, it's a bit of everything. -pistachio and cheese kunefe 4 - this is not a bad dessert. Compared to the other two we had, it was okay. -orange pistachio semolina with ice cream 4.5 - I would recommend getting this if you like orange. I like the ice cream in the middle. It is heavy to eat and filling. -pistachio cheesecake 5 - not very sweet at all. Very smooth. Probably one of the best desserts there. read more

I've dined here twice for dinner this past February 2026, on the Tuesday nights when they serve Kokoreç! Absolutely DELICIOUS and authentic, just like the Kelle Paça and Cig Kofte! The food is flavorful, hearty and like nothing I've ever had in Illinois! Even their nearby competitor - A Thousand Tales - serves nothing like this food (which explains why I've usually been the only non-Turkish diner each time I've dined here!) My server both times was Karinna--she was very informative, pleasant and efficient (which is why I tipped her 50% each time)! The inside of the place is clean, cozy with interesting avocado green colored booths, and brightly lit, with lots of plants all over the place and relaxing Turkish music playing overhead! I recently heard about a new restaurant called The Chef Grill. I love Turkish and Mediterranean food, so even without much research I made my way over for lunch with my family. As I pulled in, I was surprised to see that it's located in the same spot as Zey Zey was. Zey Zey was a nice, fast casual Turkish restaurant that unfortunately closed down, but The Chef Grill is a nice replacement. They re-did the interior to make it look fancier, and the workers are also dressed more formally. The interior is fairly spacious, but feels a bit tight with so many tables packed tightly together. There's a large aquarium that should be fun for the kids, and they have a few dessert items as well. We ordered iskender kabob (a classic dish for me), lahmacun (it's like a thin crust pizza), and smoked eggplant dip. The latter dish was a last-minute decision because manti (dumplings) was unfortunately not available that day. They also served complimentary bread and butter, which was nice to have alongside the eggplant dip. The iskender kabob was delicious, perhaps the best I've had. The sauce was tasty, the bread pieces had a bit of crispiness, and the yogurt was thick and creamy. The lahmacun was also very good. The eggplant dip was good, although it's a cold appetizer and I would have preferred a warm version. Service was good and the interior and ambiance were decent. Pricing was on the higher side, but the quality of food was great and they are trying to position themselves as higher end. I can't say I love the name The Chef Grill, but not a big deal. Stopped in on Christmas Day for lunch with my family. Nice looking restaurant with plenty of seating. We ordered the Felafel with Hummus, Beet Salad, Mushroom Pasta and the Chef Platter for 4. Portions sizes were good and everything came out fairly quickly and hot. Everything was delicious! The lamb chops from the platter were my fave - juicy and cooked perfectly. My experience today was the worst I've ever had. While the server was genuinely amazing when I walked in, the customer service provided by the manager and owner was awful. I asked to purchase only the falafel, which is sold as a combo with hummus. Despite telling them I did not want the hummus, they insisted they could not sell me the falafel separately and would still charge the ridiculous price of $7 for only four pieces. I pointed out that most Mediterranean places sell falafel by the piece to accommodate customer preference, but they would not budge. The worst part: when I got home, the falafel was visibly unappetizing and so overwhelmingly salty it was inedible. The food went straight to garbage after one bite. DO NOT EAT HERE I will not be returning due to the high price, inflexible policy, and ultimately, the poor food quality. read more

The food is excellent. The space is a bit intimidating you're not really sure if it's a restaurant or a meat shop but they do a great job answering any questions. It's not a fast food joint but a great place to sit down and have a leisurely lunch or dinner. The food itself is juicy, flavorful, rich and well cooked. The service (and this may be cultural) is a bit slower and not as attentive. I had to get up to bf o to the counter any time I needed anything or for the check. My family and I visit this place last night and it was finger licking delicious! My kids had the chicken mushroom alfredo and it tastes way better than Olive Garden. I had a dish with chicken and some type of ground strip lamb,I forgot the name of my meal, but anyway. The meat was very juicy and veggies weren't very fresh.
