You know I love pizza. Pequod's has been on my bucket list for a long time and I finally got to go while I was in the Chicago Burbs on a Friday for a late lunch. We ordered pepperoni with well done crust. The pizza is delicious. Nice crisp lacy caramelized bits along the outer edge. Very generous with the pepperoni. The service absolutely sucked. I went half my meal with no drink refill after asking twice with the dining room only 2/3 filled. I burnt my mouth on the pizza and couldn't get a drink refill to cool it off. I eat a lot of pizza all over the country. This was delicious and I enjoyed it but I think it's a one and done for me.

This certainly was an interesting experience. A friend of mine had told me that this place felt like going to a restaurant in a house, which really confused me. When we got there I saw that he was exactly right. This is right in the middle of a residential area and these people who can just open their front door and walk a few steps to some Pizza are living the dream. The building is pretty small for the amount of people that they squeeze in there. But they were extremely accommodating with us and squeezing in some extra people at our table, which was much appreciated. We had a reservation, which was 100% the right move for how busy this place gets. I had done some research on what their pizza was like so I wasn't surprised when I saw the crust, which some people might think is burnt but it is not. Instead it is caramelized. It was definitely interesting and unlike other versions of Chicago Deep Dish I have tried. The sauce was also quite good. If I'm being 100% honest, this wasn't my favorite Deep Dish I had while in Chicago but it was definitely in the top contenders.

I don't get out this way often, but I had an appointment nearby so I brought my wife and son along, and we stopped for lunch. We got there right at opening, and I'm glad we did. 30 minutes later, there was a line waiting. The place is tiny and funky, but clean. Service was quick and nice. We got poppers and a deep dish pizza. The poppers are made there, and they were much better than what you usually get. The pizza is next level. The crust was some of the best I've ever had. I don't do a ton of deep dish, but this is now at the top of my list. Next time, I'd order a little differently though. We went overboard on toppings but that's my fault. I can't wait to go back.

Came here to try Pequod's Pizza and I'd definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. We didn't have one and ended up waiting about 30 minutes. The place itself is pretty small and has an older vibe (I think it's one of their original locations). The pizza was good, don't get me wrong, but I personally didn't get the crazy hype around it. It's solid deep dish, just not something I'd go out of my way for. That said, we still had a fun time overall. Service was friendly and attentive, which made the experience better. Parking is street parking, so keep that in mind if you're going during busy hours.

Was at the location by DePaul last time so we came here this time! Much more of a cozier feel. Tighter spaces between tables and not as well lit. Kind of a lodge/cabin vibe. To start, we ordered the Caesar salad and app sampler which came with mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms and jalapeños. We got two large pizzas: one that was all veg and another that was all meat. For 6 of us, it was a lot of food. Should've gotten a medium or one pizza to share with different toppings on each half. Beautiful burnt crust. And it's more bready than cheesy which I prefer. (Lou Malnati's does the opposite.) The sauce also has much richer seasoning and the toppings are fresher. Expensive of course. But it's a treat on rare occasions. Absolutely worth it too. Staff was nice. Really attentive and we had no issues. Everything came out correctly. Parking is parallel around here. It's kind of in a neighborhood. Not difficult to find.

In the great deep dish competition, I'd probably put Pequod's in the middle of the pack, but it was still a great deep dish and the salad was awesome. They are super generous in the toppings (about $5 per protein topping and $3 for veggie toppings), but light on sauce and cheese. The caramelized edge is interesting but I don't think it makes the deep dish that different from other spots. Still recommend giving it a try as I know it is beloved by many. Service was quick and friendly.

Love this spot! Gritty, busy, and delicious... A run down building in a residential neighborhood. The room is cramped. The waitstaff expert at working the floor. A bar with draft beer and 2 big screen TVs running sports make this an eatery with Chicago personality. Wait staff move fast, taking care of business with a great attitude. No extra time, but always making sure you're happy. They deliver just what you want. On this visit I started out with a tall Pilsner glass of Krombacher, cold and crisp. Then onto a house salad with homemade Italian dressing. In conclusion, the raison d'etre, a beautiful deep dish pizza with the famous charred crust. This caramelized, cheese-crusted edge is worth traveling for. I had anchovies, onions, and black olives. 5 stars! I'll be back.

Cozy neighborhood spot with some of the best deep dish pizza you'll find anywhere. Service was great. Parking was easy and there were no leftovers to take home. The pizza is that good.

Service was on slow side even having a reservation took them 30min to sit us down even though i saw two tables and empty seats. the place is extremely small and no parking lot all street parking. I ordered a pequod pepperoni salad which was delicious I originally asked for no pepperochini and the salad came with everything on menu plus olives. since I dont like olives they had to bring me new a new salad.the Italian dressing and ranch were great. the pizza was delicious especially the dough and the sauce was a little on the tart side. overall it was a good experience but quite a bit noisy in there made it hard to talk with my friends I felt like I had to talk louder. once more people left it was better. while the pizza wasnt a wow factor it still was decent.

Wow--cannot say how much I underestimated pizza. Pizza is pizza is pizza, right? Wrong! I had probably zero expectations for this, and it blew my tastebuds away at the first bite. I forgot how delicious pizza can be when all the ingredients are 10/10. Firstly, the service? Stellar. 11/10. My husband accidentally placed an order for the wrong day. He drove out and nobody could find the order until they checked the next day's orders. They were able to just make our two pizzas right then for him. It obviously took extra time, but they could have sent him away and made him come back the next day. Angels. Pizza saints. May they find favor and fortune for all the days of their lives! What we got: Thin crust pepperoni - This was for our girls and they devoured their slices. Loved it so much. The pepperoni was so generous and thinly sliced. The crust was like crackery. No complaints, all praise. Pan crust sausage and spinach with extra sauce - The crust!! Crunchy and buttery on the bottom, but also fluffy on the inside. I feel like I haven't had such a good crust in so long that I forgot what it could be like. It's sort of Detroit style but 1000x tastier. The sauce is on the chunkier side, which I absolutely love! There's nothing worse than a dry pizza imo. The sauce is punchy and flavorful, and it soaks into the middle layer of the crust without making it super soggy. Perfection! The sausages are meatball-sized and the spinach is dispersed throughout. The cheese is ooey and gooey in the best way! No hard, dry plastic cheese here. It pulls for miles! Just thinking about it makes me want another slice. It's dangerous how delicious it is. Like, yes, I could stop at one slice, but my tastebuds tell me just a half a slice more... Wish there were even more locations, but this was worth it!

As an out-of-towner with family in the area, a few of us ate a Pequod's last year and were blown away. When we had new folks with us this year, we insisted they try this spot! Make sure you get reservations - it will make your experience much smoother. We ordered two cheesy garlic breads, one large pizza, and one medium pizza for our group of six at the suggestion of our server. It was WAY too much food. The sauce on the pizza and the dough is unmatched, providing great flavor. However, we felt the medium pizza (pepperoni) tasted better than the large pizza (pepperoni & mushroom) - maybe just because of the sauce ratio differences. Just a quick walk from the Morton Grove train, I would return to Pequod's again and recommend it to anyone in the area.

I have not been to Pequod's for several years and the place has not changed. On a Monday night, reservations were required. We made on online and glad we did, because there was not one empty table. This location is the original and was established in 1970. It is small, cozy, and is neighborhood joint that has not changed since its opening. We started with the Pequod's salad which was enough to share. It was a classic salad with slices of pepperoni, carrots, mushrooms and shaved parmesan. The pan style pizza took about 40 minutes , but ut was worth the wait. The crust was carmelized and has not changed over the years. It was served in a cast iron pan and was piping h0ot. The sausage was our favorite. It had chunks of sausage , supposedly from a local butcher. They also serve Pequod's IPA brewed by Spiteful Brewery. The old time feeling and charm was the perfect atmosphere.

First time here. It was tempting to go to their Chicago location, but we opted for here. Luckily, we were here around 2pm (weekday). Their lounge is tiny, and it quickly got crowded. My guess is with the pizza wait (30-35 minutes) and people eating and drinking (another 45 minutes), you'll be waiting for a table. The pizza was good. We ordered the medium and with only 2 of us, we brought 3 slices home. The staff was friendly. Overall, good experience.

Ask the Community - Pequod's Pizza

Are there gluten free crust options?

I think the best thing to do is call Pequod's directly. If enough people ask about it....

Are dogs really allowed here? I saw this place marked "dogs allowed" but not sure.

I don't recall seeing dogs inside....and the space is quite tight. I'd guess the opportunity is outside on their newish patio. I'd call if I was you first....

    Are reservations needed?

I recommend them for weekend nights but not required.

Is this like actual deep dish or more of a pan pizza? (Deep dish is thin lay of crust with tons of cheese and sauce. Pan is like a loaf of bread with thin layer of cheese and sauce.)

It's confusing because they call it deep dish, yet list it on the menu as pan. I consider it more of a deep dish pizza. HOWEVER, my husband just told he considers it a pan pizza !! Lol… Read more
