This is a legacy restaurant with a menu that seems to be unnecessarily large - the long list of "specials" is a draw to some and the standard menu covers everything. Very reasonable in terms of price and value which is in part the result of BYOB. The food quality to average to good and appears to have declined over the years. Service is provided by young wait staff that gives good college try. Many family dinners and special occasion groups on weekends. Nice people on the front of the house. We've been going to Louca's for 25+ years. Many birthdays, anniversaries, gatherings with friends and New Year's celebrations. It amazes us that the prices have always been reasonable while maintaining the high quality of service, ambience and food. Last night was no exception. We shared the calamari special with mango sauce, beet and Greek salads and shrimp bisque. All way above average. The Berkshire double pork chop my wife ordered will feed her for 2 more meals, while my seafood capellini entree was stuffed with clams, shrimp and mussels. It was my birthday so I finished with a delicious chocolate mousse cake and a double espresso. On top of all this it's a BYOB. As long as they exist we'll keep coming back read more

Apps were very good. My friend and I ordered the same meal, Chicken Giambotta. I asked for mine no mushrooms, came out no mushrooms but also missing sausage. So kitchen pan fries sausage on the fly and adds to the meal. But if it is not sautéed with the meal and it is pan fried so the sausage imparts no flavor to the rest of the dish nor does it absorb the rest of the flavors of the dish. Did not offer to remake or reduce cost of meal. When paying a higher price for a premium meal properly prepared and not getting it is disappointing. read more

This is an excellent, elegant restaurant with delicious Italian food, a professional wait staff and a pretty and calm setting. Elegant and old school. We met our friends from Metuchen here at their recommendation, and they advised they have been coming here for thirty years. I can see why. Service was prompt and efficient, and the menu is varied, although the specialty is seafood. Everyone's dish was perfect: clams casino, octopus salad, Ceasar salad, crispy bread with fresh creamery butter, Sicilian swordfish, lobster ravioli, seafood fra diablo, veal Milanese, and eggplant rollatini. We have been here a multitude of times. It is a family favorite. It's a big place with a basement area also. All white table cloths so it's a special atmosphere. Very high rating on service- so many servers who are the top of the line professionals. They all make a great impression. Attentive and always watching for anything you need (water, cleaning up, etc)- This is a BYOB. The food is delicious, made the way you want, fresh, great choices. The portions a VERY generous. You will be bringing home left overs. You can have an intimate dinner here or rent a section for an event. Lots of choices for dessert - this is my husbands absolute favorite place to eat. We moved to the shore and he still drives up here w me for their seafood fra diavolo- although this time he ordered filet mignon. I order different things each time and have never been disappointed - make a reservation since it is a busy and well known place. It can get a little loud with chatting but we don't mind that at all. I think this is top notch service. Also the bathrooms and whole place are clean. A pleasure to eat here with a group too. A parking lot with plenty of free parking too. read more

If you like salt, order the crab cake sandwich. This flavorless smear. of what the called a crap cake, was almost inedible. Served on soft foccacia bead ,it just melded into mush. LouCas is a nice family style restaurant. First off, it's BYOB so that's a plus. The service was great. The food was tasty. Wish it was bigger portions but I tend to be greedy lol. Everything went great, however, I assume because I dined closer to closing times they didn't have rolls of bread instead they gave a different kind of bread that was poppy seed flavor maybe. Anyways, I'd recommend for a nice family dinner or even an elegant yet relaxed date night. read more

We have been coming to this restaurant for many years. The food is good and the fried zucchini is one of the best I have ever had. However, we recently had a small party there for a birthday. About 17 people. We did spend around $700. The disappointment with the place occurred when we brought in a birthday cake. They asked my son if he wanted them to cut the cake for a nominal charge. The nominal charge was a surprising expensive $45. The cake cost $32. And for them to cut the cake it costs $45. Feels like a rip off. We feel this is not a charge they should have applied to our bill. Maybe a nominal fee of $10 would have been reasonable. Not $45. Beware if you eat there and have a party. Don't let them cut the cake or you to will be hit with an unreasonable cake cutting charge. read more

Delizioso! Everything was so fresh and well cooked! I loved every bite of every dish we ordered. It all tasted as good as it looked in my pictures. My fave was the Fra Diavolo! Outdoor dining: They have a very attractive set up on the side of the restaurant away from the parking lot. Decorated with a canopy, table clothes, lighting and plants. Indoor dining: Several rooms set up to provide personal distancing. Fancy tables set up for fine dining. Paintings hanging throughout dining area. You can always count on a great meal at LouCas! I don't even look at the menu, because there is always a long list of amazing specials your server will (impressively) share with you. I love their seafood tray for an appetizer and have thoroughly enjoyed their fish and steak entrees. LouCas is reasonably priced and BYOB! We came for lunch this weekend and I have to say it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in NJ. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our table was spaced generously from other tables, which I appreciated, so our group could have a conversation without having speak louder. The decor was calming and immediately you feel transported to Europe. Beautifully large, ornately framed artwork on the walls, details in the woodwork, and very open, spacious rooms. I loved that it was sectioned off a bit as well - so on very busy nights, you still feel a bit more intimate. Our server rattled off specials - most were decadent and delicious sounding! The appetizers sounded incredible, and the entrée specials included a veal as well as a bronzini stuffed with crab and lobster (OMGGG). We ordered appetizers for the table - the rockshrimp, octopus with white beans, and the eggplant rollatini. Everything came at the same time - piping hot and beautifully plated. The shrimp were tender and cooked well - had a lovely crisp breading on them and smothered in a slight lemony sauce with some fresh elements like tomatoes. The octopus was cooked perfectly too - All the pieces I tried were tender, and they were cut into pieces already, so you weren't having to cut them yourself. The rollatini was absolutely fabulous. The filling was this gloious hot ricotta, and it was covered in a marinara that was so simple and pure, but you could tell was cared for over HOURS. Our entrees were eclectic - I went with scallops, my husband knew he wanted their chicken parm before he ever walked in the door. Our friends had the special stuffed bonzino and a veal marsala. portions were incredibly generous - if we weren't off to another event after lunch, most of us would have brought home food. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their meal. My scallops were tender and sweet, and I learned they were local NJ scallops! I absolutely love that the restaurants supports local! To anyone coming for their first time, this is a BYO establishment, so make sure to pack a bottle of wine if you want to indulge. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner and chef, Chef Louca. He was kind, generous, had a fantastic sense of humor and seemed to truly be engaged and excited to have us there. We were a group of 15 this time, for our Saturday get together with friends. And for what it's worth, LouCas was clearly the best meal we've had so far. Initially, I wanted to make reservations for a 6:30 time slot and at 2 1/2 weeks out that wasn't happening. It was either 5 or 8 and the earlier time worked best for us. They are a BYOB Italian restaurant that is quite popular on the weekends. For starters, the better half and I shared their 2 person hot antipasto. This also included zucchini fries which were surprisingly good. For our entrees, most of our end of the table ordered off the daily specials menu. She had the Lamb Osso Bucco while I went for Halibut over a lobster risotto. Other popular items being veal Marsala and linguine over white clam sauce. At the end for dessert a tray of assorted sweets. Over our cappuccinos we shared a peanut butter bomb. This was very rich in flavor. This place isn't cheap. I am probably the pickiest when it comes to Italian cuisine. If the sauce and everything that goes into the pasta is not perfect, I will have a hard time enjoying it. This is quite the find! Decor-wise, it has that classy, old-fashioned feel. Do not come here with shorts and tank tops. I haven't had good Italian food like this in a very long time. Everything we ordered was served piping hot, the pasta perfectly al dente and the ingredients fresh and delicious. My son had Angel Hair in his seafood dish. My fork kept finding its way to his bowl. I loveeeee Angel Hair pasta. My Linginue with White Clam sauce was delishhhh. The portions here are huge. The only thing I had that was meh, were the stuffed eggplant appetizers. But I see that it's popular with other guests here. My only complaint is that our waiter did not read us the specials. Too bad because my son lives for them. He would have surely chose something from the list. When I got home, I noticed two missed phone calls from the restaurant. They left me a message saying that my husband left his credit card there. This is not a big deal as hubs loves to lose his wallet or leave his card at establishments. I've lost count how many times he has done this. The amazing thing...it always finds itself back to him. What can you say about this place other than wow. Everything is always excellent and service is always spot on. The oysters and seafood salad were tender and flavorful. The fried calamari was tender and not oily at all. My tomahawk veal chop was the best I have ever had. So tender and delicious. The soft shell crabs were loaded with flavor and there were 4 in the order. We had 3 different creme brûlée's a chocolate lava cake and coffees for dessert. A fantastic night and delicious food. Meeting 4 other couples tonight somewhere in the middle of where everyone lives, we settle on highly recommended BYOB LouCas Restaurant located in a strip mall on RT 27 just off the parkway. Plenty of parking as we stroll in 2 Saturday before Christmas and the place is an absolute mob scene. It must seat 300 plus people, and we didn't realize there was a downstairs until they rolled us down the steps to a timely reservation for 10 which was shocking due to the crowd upstairs. Joseph and servers were our staff all night and Joe kept things humming and was on top of all things throughout and trust me we are no easy group. Fresh bread was presented and along with a multitude of appetizers and entrée specials. Menu was large as well with your basic Italian Fare. Joe suggested a hot appetizer platter special for 8 people $15.00 per head which easily fed 10. It included. Fried Calamari with hot & regular marinara. (Clean fresh calamari with equally good sauces) Stuffed Mushrooms truly outstanding. Clams oreganato hot fresh and clean. Eggplant Rollatini outstanding Roasted peppers rolled on smoked mozzarella with balsamic glaze very good as well. As appetizers go this was 5-star hands down the way to go. Entrees were good to great but some not spectacular. The Linguine Fra Diablo was excellent while the white Suppa De pesce lacked a bit of flavor. The Veal Francoise was tender scallopini, but the sauce had no hint of lemon and just tasted like melted butter. Chicken breast with smoked mozzarella and peppers was good as was the sauce on top Filet of Bronzini was fresh clean tasty if not a smaller portion. Joe kept the bottle open all night and aside from a few coffees and espressos, we skipped desert. As BYOB go this one stands up well. Great service atmosphere loud and festive, appetizers excellent food good some dishes need a little uptick. 4.5 Stars for this place was worth the trip. read more

The restaurant allowed us to be seated and were quite accommodating to letting the rest of us order our beverages. No apps since dinners looked heavy. I ordered a double cut pork chop dinner because it just sounded so good. It was cooked perfectly - juicy and cooked very well. It was quite tasty for the most part but part of it was a bit over salted. Dessert was delicious - I ordered Tiramisu and was as expected. I would certainly come back again! read more

We ordered takeout from them tonight. The food was very good, however, the attitude that LouCas's employees have is that we need them more than they need us. I felt that the person checking us considered himself superior to us. Other things to note, I am on a Keto diet, and they are very stingy on what they will substitute for the pasta. I could only get a vegetable medley with a lot of vegetables I don't like. They wouldn't even substitute a small salad, I'd have been ok with a small up charge even. My boyfriend and I met 5 other couples last night to celebrate a birthday. We had 7:30 reservations. Once everyone else arrived the waiter came around to serve rolls and butter and brought bottles of water (this is a BYOB). Then he came back to take our appetizer orders and then the entree. We split a few of the apps for the table because with 12 people and easier for all to access. We had a shrimp app, calamari app, shoestring zucchini straws. The entrees were a steak, veal chop, pappadelle with bolognese, branzini just to name a few. The food was excellent, the wait staff on top of their game. I believe they close at 10pm, but you know how it is when good friends get together you just don't want the night to end. I think we ended up staying until 10:30, definitely the last to leave. In my experience, LouCas has been pretty hit or miss. My family and I have been coming here for a while and I swear the food is different every time. This time was definitely a hit. I was pleasantly surprised. We came on Christmas Eve and my only issue was that the restaurant was SO LOUD...again nothing new for LouCas. As the place started to empty, we were able to have conversation without screaming. We had a variety of appetizers to share. The rock shrimp app and the mango calamari are two of my favorites. The majority of us had seafood for our entrees. I had an absolutely delicious branzino stuffed with crab meat and lobster. I could have licked the plate it was so good.
