4/10/26 - Been a bit since I did a review so I figured it was time. I was driving by Camillo's in Sayreville, NJ and haven't had their pizza in quite some time so why not? For those of you who have not been there, Camillo's is more of an Italian restaurant, than a pizzeria. It has a pretty large seating area in the restaurant part of the building. It looks to my untrained eye that they had some extra room and decided to put it in a pizza oven near the entrance. From what I've described, I had the feeling this was going to be a disaster. But there was also a lot of foot traffic and diners in there which always make you optimistic. I ordered a large Sicilian (square) pie and a large pepperoni (round) pie. The crust on the sicilian pie had that great sicilian pizza flavor. It is thick and very chewy, but surprisingly light. If you are a cheese and sauce lover, this pie is for you. The cheese is fresh and tasty and is definitely premium. The sauce is well seasoned and very tangy and delicious. My opinion is they should probably cook it a little more because with all that cheese and sauce, there's not a lot of crispiness on any of the crust. I'd probably recommend eating it with a knife and fork because it can be that messy. The pepperoni pie that I ordered what was surprisingly thick. Again, this offering is of the thick and hearty variety. This pie, however, was not soggy and the slices stand up. It's not exactly crispy and crunchy, but it's not limp. The sauce is definitely the star here. Overall I was pleasantly surprised. I want to go back and sample some of the restaurant offerings. Overall Rating: B read more

Overall we like Camillo's in Sayreville. The prices are fair and they have some delicious dishes. The best dish is the tortellini in vodka sauce. Their vodka sauce is FANTASTIC! We also love the cheese ravioli and lasagna. My husband enjoys their cheesesteak, but thought the Italian hot dog was TERRIBLE! It had no potatoes, barely any peppers, and no onions. It was very bland! The goat cheese and mushroom ravioli is just ok. There wasn't much goat cheese flavor, and all you can taste are the mushrooms. Skip the dessert here the chocolate cake was dry as can be, and the cheesecake was just ok. I recommend Camillo's in Sayreville! read more

Being relatively new to NJ I don't know a lot of the restaurants outside of my immediate area. I made plans to have dinner with friends and he suggested Camillo's. Knowing me he said that he felt that this was my kind of place. I love old time Italian restaurants, with a great selection and reasonable prices and casual. First off all the menu is extensive. The specials looked great. Let me start with the server. The young lady was very attentive and pleasant. We asked her a few questions about some dishes. They weren't real complicated but she had to find the answers, no biggie. I either order chicken parmigiana or chicken cacciatore my first time at a new restaurant to make a baseline of how I determine if I like the place. Entrees come with salad which was pretty good. I'm into basic Iceberg lettuce not all those weedy greens. My wife loves the conglomeration of everything green. I ordered the Cacciatore and it came out huge. There were 4 pretty large pieces of chicken breast under the sauce and veggies that make it cacciatore. I prefer the chicken cut up into bite size pieces which I feel is the norm, but i could be wrong. The meal was tasty and well prepared. My wife ordered lobster ravioli which didn't look very appealing on the plate. I had the feeling she suffered through it. She usually compliments a meal but she was silent. I asked her and her response was it's okay. "I'll never order this again" is her response to not good. The desert menu was extensive and we shared an almond cake. They have cappuccino a nice touch. There is zero atmosphere whatsoever which I don't really care about. My co-diners felt we were rushed. The food did come out very quickly after the salads and the many young people working there seemed to hover around staying ahead of clearing dishes which gave the feeling of a rush. There wasn't a need for our table as it's a large restaurant with no wait. I believe the workers wanted to look busy and the general patrons are locals with families dot looking to "dine" so it's more of accommodation for faster service. Next time I'm going to tell the server please don't rush our meal. The only thing I really thought was a negative and I didn't mention it was the carpet looks like it needs to be replaced or a real deep clean. I usually don't notice things like that. read more

Great pizza and calamari, the marinara sauce is fantastic. The service is spot on and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Excellent, superior local Italian restaurant with daily specials. Prices cannot be beat. You will take home leftovers much of the time. Make sure to try the cajun calamari!! We just had my Mother in law's repass there... amazing food & service. Staff is excellent. Ambiance is lovely. They also do pizza and have great drinks and desserts. I can't imagine why their stars aren't at least 4. Go here for great food at amazing prices. read more

The food and the service never disappoints. Recently had the salmon and scallops with artichoke and it was delicious.

Update 2023 Ordering food there for take out, and unfortunately not going here anymore. They forgot an order & gave salad from the night before. (Mind you. This is when they open for the day) a salad is the most simplest thing to make, and if this is given with old food.... I don't know what's the practice in the kitchen anymore. The entrée trio that had veal, chicken, and shrimp combined didn't have any shrimp in it either. Have eaten here a few times. Food here overall isn't great. Pizza is terrible here. Some of the worst Jersey pizza I've ever had from a real italian place. Pasta dishes are ok. The place as a whole feels pretty outdated and stale. Definitely a business in decline. Right from the start, both sinks in the men's bathroom did not have running water. I'm pretty sure that's a health code violation. On top of that, the only stall did not work (flush) and my son had to go home to use the bathroom (Luckily we don't live too far) They double booked the back room and at one point they asked if our party of 40 can relocate after we started to eat. We were there for a Repass lunch in and they put us in the back with another birthday party. I have no idea how many party's were in the front , but you could not even walk through to get to the back. The second someone asked for a to-go box the waitresses rushed us out. Tried this place for the first time today, and was looking forward to it because it feels like all the sit down Italian restaurants have been disappearing from the area. It was very slow, we were greeted promptly and told to sit wherever. The bread and flavored oil were fresh and delicious. Salads were simple and good. We both got chicken dishes, and while the flavor of the sauces were good, the meat was thick and tough, very dry. I felt like I chewed forever before swallowing. The manager or owner, not sure, was also very loudly instructing the staff in the front of house on what they should be doing/cleaning. My husband joked at one point that they might ask us to leave our table so they could windex our window sill. Nothing to write home about, we probably won't be back. read more

What can Camillo's improve? Hmmm well, I can't really comment on everything but judging from the pizza and the Stromboli I don't think I'll be back. The Stromboli was horrible. Filled with raw onions and peppers I mean who thinks that this is a good idea? I brought home a pizza and two Stromboli and half the pizza and one Stromboli is lying in a landfill somewhere. Pizza was so saucy it was inedible. I'm sorry the only positive was the kid at the cash register. Great customer service skills. As far as the pizza guy, take him on a tour of pizzerias that get 5 stars. read more

We just had my daughter sweet 16 party here. First and foremost the service was amazing and they accomidated all of our requests. It was a great size room to have 50+ or more for a party. We were able to come in night before and set up some decorations which helped save time for the morning. She was able to play her ow and music which kept the kids busy having a good time. I had the penne vodka and it was alright but there are definitely better places for better food. The service was pretty good. The only bad thing about the service was they didn't take my bread plate and salad plate when my food came out. Overall the place was also very nice looking on the inside. Something sure went wrong this time in the kitchen. All three of us confessed the next day that our dinners were terrible. Two veal meals and one pasta with clam sauce. The veal was extremely tough and pounded. The veal with mushrooms was almost flavorless. The pasta with white clam sauce had no flavor and the texture of the spaghetti was "off" somehow. This place used to be a premier restaurant to go to in the area. My how it's changed! I had a takeout order from here that was just utterly disappointing. The Buffalo Wings had next to no sauce, the soup tasted "off" so it must have been sitting in the fridge, and they have the gall to charge $19.95 for a steak that was something you could have bought at Shoprite and cooked yourself. I mean it was basically the size and thinness of the bottom of your shoe. Flavorless! Ordered the steak with wild mushrooms and brown sauce and got a plain steak with sautéed vegetables DROWNING in oil! I know they're not a steakhouse BUT if you offer it on your menu; you should do your best to deliver a quality product! There Italian food has declined as well. Chicken and Veal are tough. Tasted like cooked and left over from previous night and refried for the order. I should have learned after the last time I ate from this place! So much for consistency I guess. Camillo's is my favorite local Sayreville restaurant. It's been around since the 90's and I believe the same people have owned it. I recommend making a reservation, especially if you have a large group or party. The portions are HUGE! I usually order Chicken Parmesan and it comes with pasta and salad. I always ended up taking my leftovers home. The pizzeria is on the right side of the restaurant and you can eat or order from that menu and eat in the main dining room. Their pizza is fresh and yummy! It's pretty loud here and gets crowded on weekends. The parking lot gets full, but you can always park on the street or in another parking lot across the street. You'll never go wrong at Camillo's! It's Italian hospitality and cooking at its best. read more

Had the worst Italian I've ever had tonight. The meatballs taste like catfood and had poor texture. My alfredo tasted like buttered noodles and the pasta tastes like it was cooked in reused pasta water. The basil on the mozzarella tomatoes was so dark im praying that dosent cause a problem later. I complained about the food which i never do but I was so disgusted, and they just took it away and charged full price. Nobody at my table liked their food and a manager didnt even come over to ask what was wrong or how it could be corrected. My stomach feels terrible. Stay away. My beer didnt even have any fizz to it... not even as good as olive garden... and almost a hundred dollars... read more

Been going to this restaurant for 10+ years and the service has gone down hill. The waitress was not nice at all. Every time she walked by our table she gave us a dirty look. We threw one of my dearest friends bridal shower there today (7/13). Food & hospitality they get an A+. I'm not even sure how many times I called prior to today to ask endless questions: Is there tablecloth? Can we have a dessert table? Are candles allowed? Which door do we use? Every phone call was graciously answered, and they never seemed annoyed. The staff was very courteous and attentive. They always asked us before just "doing" what they thought was appropriate. "Is this okay to toss?" "What wine/beer selection do you prefer?" "What time would you like food to be served." Even with my own random requests! "Can I use your sink to wash this?" The food was delicious, I personally had the calamari/garlic bread/penne vodka/ shrimp scampi over sautéed spinach. They graciously allowed us to use their space, which I am very thankful for. I had the pleasure of having my bridal shower here on Palm Sunday. The food was delicious I had the chicken Franchise the portions are huge!! The venue room my Mom reserved was huge and fit 60 people and can fit up to 90. There was a nice area for extra tables for favors, gifts and desserts. This spot has a great outdoor dining area for social distancing and crew members made me feel very comfortable and accommodated my every need to make me feel as safe as possible. I did ask to sit further away from others as I have a newborn mother who breastfeeds which they were able to accommodate. Food is always great and fresh. Portion sizes are generous and worth every penny. They have a nice selection of cocktails as well and some of the best sangria. Our waitress wasn't the best and could of been more attentive and friendly but overall service was okay. We also order take out from here on a frequent basis and love how our food is always hot and fresh. read more

Went to Camillos tonight for some Italian, we were seated at Eric's station and he was prompt friendly and courteous after cocktails and Fried Calamari we ordered and received our Entrees my Shrimp Parm came out hot and the pasta was well drained my dinner was great my wife had Eggplant Parmigiana which was also delicious the restaurant was clean and well appointed! Very nice local neighborhood feeling - Italian restaurant with good variety of pizza. Great specials, good value, good quality of food. Service is excellent. I don't understand why this place has some bad reviews. The food and atmosphere were both great! Plus, this business deserves even more support from us because it was destroyed during Superstorm Sandy. The warm bread was perfectly baked and the olive oil spice dipping sauce was mm mm good! I ordered the Stuffed Rigatoni on the specials menu - it came in a sherry cream sauce with mushrooms, caramelized onions, and spinach. It was delicious and flavorful. My sister got a cheesesteak which she enjoyed and my parents both got veal parmesan, which they both devoured. The portions are so big though that we all had leftovers to take home. I have been eating at Camillos for the past 15 years. I didn't think it possible, but they get better every year. Their portions are great, and the taste makes you feel like you're in Little Italy. My friends and I ordered take out around 8pm on a Saturday night and only took 15 minutes! Loved how quick it was! Two of us ordered chicken parm, one with penne and another penne vodka. It also comes with a side salad and bread. My other friend got the eggplant parm with penne and side house salad. The portions are a great size, we all had leftovers. It was all cooked well done which is my favorite. Prices are average especially with the amount of food given. It was all delicious, no complaints from us.
