I recently decided to order from this pizzeria as it has good reviews and is considered by some as being one of the best pizza spots in NYC. Unfortunately, the food I ate fell very short of my expectations. I ordered a few slices of both their regular pizza and Sicilian. The Sicilian slices barely had any sauce and too much dough that was not flavorful at all. The cheese did not taste that good either. The regular pizza slices also lacked flavor and sauce. They were also too thin and the crust was only a little crispy. The fresh mozzarella and tomato slice tasted the worst while the slice with pepperoni was somewhat better. I'm not sure if my experience with this restaurant is an outlier, but I was very disappointed with their food. If I am ever in the area where this pizzeria is located, maybe I might stop in to get a slice to see if eating in person leads to a better experience. read more

I'm in agreement with another Yelper's review- the pizza is like from any other average/below average NYC pizza spot. The Sicilian slices we got were dry, there was barely any sauce or cheese on them. The regular slices were also underwhelming as well. Ok everyone, gather 'round. What we experienced last night was a game changer. Louie & Ernie's Pizza has been on many New York Pizza list for decades. When I see the Yankees in The Bronx, my go to first stop is always Arthur Avenue. I dismissed Louie & Ernie's Pizza, what if it's like Lucali with a mind numbing line? Well I'm happy to report that I pulled up to a free parking spot. The area reminds me of Queens, it's more residential so there's no parking worries. In terms of being slammed? We walked into a non assuming pizza place. Growing up in New York, it's the same style pizza place in every New York City borough. Walking into Louie & Ernie's Pizza on a Sunday afternoon, I see the TV has the Giants game on. There's the same wood paneling on the walls from the 70s, it feels like a time warp! Do the patrons realize they're enjoying pizza on Eater's The Best Pizzerias of New York City list? I walk in and see a small kitchen with the pizza guys crafting pizza. I ask the hostess do we need to be seated with menus or order here with you? I ordered two pizzas, Margarita and Clam and we all sat with our paper plates. The first pizza comes out, the Margarita pizza. Everything about this pizza is award winning. From the freshly made cheeses to the tomato sauce and thin crust, this is a real New York Pizza. It's something we all grew up enjoying. The Long Island Pizza guys with their TikToc videos and one hundred thousand followers, you're not making the same quality pizza as Louie & Ernie's Pizza. The clam pizza, my brother in law is a clam pizza fiend! I thought it was very good, there was a little heat to it so be aware if you order this pizza. Cash only classic NY pizzeria with seating available inside and out. It was admittedly the last stop on a pizza tour but it was definitely good stuff. We had HUGE cheese Sicilian slices that were soft and pillowy with a sweet sauce. We also tried the fried Calzone - apparently a rare specialty item that was just so damn good. The staff were all friendly and the service was fast! It's a spot nestled in a neighborhood next to an Ice Cream/Water Ice place. Definitely worth the stop if you're in the area. read more

I absolutely love this place! It is old school to the max. A real neighborhood gem. The pizza is fantastic with really crispy crust. I was happy to try the eggplant calzone which did not disappoint. I first had my Louie & Ernie fill on Crosby Ave in The BX when a girlfriend of mine and I came here eons ago. So long ago, I had ordered like diced chicken on my slice or something. My early afternoon visit this time, did not involve chicken. Stay with me. The inside is a straight out riot of wood paneling- old school Italian style. The menu is concise but looks super indulgent. Since my cousin and her son are visiting from the homeland, I picked up a large plain and small Margherita pies to go and traveled well to my mom's house. My olfactory senses picked up a Parmesan cheese scent during my drive which I wasn't expecting. Once home, I ditched my Pescatarian Keto diet and dug right in. Louie & E's Margherita is zhuzhed-up with a simple and straight up tomato sauce just how I love it- without a mashup of seasonings. I honestly felt the Margherita was a true winner. Their plain pie was also a nice hit: right amount of cheeses, excellent thin base, perfect balance of tomato sauce and the crust is blissfully soft+crunchy. These folks serious take pride in their pizza- as they should. Hell...they've been around for decades. The truth is, the mix of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses was like a curveball. I haven't been there for a few years, but I'm glad to say the pizza is still incredible. Thin crust and crunchy, incredible tomato sauce and gooey melted cheese. You have to have the sausage pie. They use a special blend of sausage that bursts with flavor. Indoor and outdoor seating. Eating there is a must just like any pizzeria. As soon as a pizza hits the box, it loses part of its crunch so eat it there. Caution, Dieters beware! We ordered a white slice, a calzone (ricotta and greens), and a margherita pizza. The white slice was a let-down - sitting on the counter for too long it didn't heat up much and the crust was bland and stale. The ricotta also tasted flat. The calzone was fantastic - charred and bitter from the broccoli rabe with a cooling side of tomato sauce. The pizza was good, but pales in comparison to other top NY joints. Prices were high, and oddly so - this place is in the middle of the Bronx. The food was mixed but the vibe (similar to L&B) is the platonic ideal of the NY slice joint - antiquated interior, neighborhood regulars, a loud table, fast turnover, and the random construction worker popping in to pick up a pie. A close friend couldn't stop RAVING about this place so we went for some eats after a trip to the Botanical Gardens. This is STRICTLY a pizza joint; I didn't see any options for soups, salads, pasta, bougie sandwiches. Just pizza with a laundry list of toppings. I opted for a pepperoni and garlic pie and man was I not disappointed. The garlic was FRESH. Like they just grated it over the hot pizza straight out the oven and let the cheese and hot oil assimilate it into the slices. And it was ABUNDANT. After what happened the last time I ate pizza, I am happy to inform all of you that I have found another good pizza shop. However, be prepared to make an effort to come out for it, because it is out in the Bronx. Roughly a 10-15 minute walk from the Buhre Ave subway station on the 6 line, I think most people know Louie and Ernie's from the simple fact it is one of the best slices in the city. I will repeat that last part, it is one of the best slices in the city. Before I begin, I have to give you my usual warning. This is a cash only establishment. They have an ATM machine inside, but save yourself the fees and carry the green inside. Okay, now, onto the slices. I got three, a plain, a sausage, and a white slice. It all amounted to $12, very fair. Plain slice The plain slice is crispy, chewy, a very herbal slice. The crust, light and thin as it is, broke apart upon eating, but still tastes great. The sauce and cheese are a good combination here; it is a pretty nice sized slice. I enjoyed it. Sausage slice Sausage slices are tricky because too much meat can ruin the slice (and your stomach); too little can shortchange it. Louie and Ernie's does it justice. The sausage is perfectly cooked and browned, not too seasoned, not too spicy, it has a nice amount of meat on there, and it has a solid taste. The crust is cooked perfectly on this slice. The staff (excellent staff by the way), told me that is slice is their most popular, and judging by my experience, I can see why. White slice Even though the white slice is globby and messy, it still manages to be a solid slice. You get ricotta cheese in every bite, including the crust. It is not heavy on garlic, it has a creamy, even balanced flavor that works well. Sometimes a white slice can be overwhelming; that is certainly not the case here. -- When I first walked around the neighborhood, I found it eerily quiet. Nobody hassled me, and I found the area quite safe. Once I walked inside the place, I felt that this is where this place gets its Bronx edge. Loud customers and employees, gruff, but authentic New York accents, and a Bronx attitude that would scare tourists. I guarantee you your voice will be louder and deeper once you are through eating your pizza here. All in all, I am happy I made the effort to come out here, and I feel you should too. read more

A very good rendition of NYC pizza tucked away in a relatively quiet Bronx neighborhood not far from I-95 and the Throgs Neck Bridge. Louie & Ernie's frequently finds its way onto the "Best NYC Pizza Lists" time and time again. Living on Long Island I find myself in the boroughs of Queens and Manhattan much more often than The Bronx. However, last weekend on my way home from The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden (highly recommended by the way) the perfect opportunity presented itself for me to stop and grab a few different variety of pizzas to try from Louie & Ernie's on my way home. I called my order in ahead of time and they quoted me 20 minutes. I headed over and got there in about 25 minutes. And within a few more minutes wait after getting there I had my pizzas in hand and I was on my way. The two most recommended pizzas from here are the plain cheese and the sausage pies/slices. I tried both as well as a pizza topped with mushroom and pepperoni for good measure. I should've just stuck with what's recommended (and I highly recommend you do the same) as I couldn't care less for the pepperoni and mushroom pie but couldn't get enough of the plain cheese and sausage slices. Their sausage is delicious and not too overpowering with just the right amount of flavor so I can totally understand why it's a hit. Their plain cheese slice is truly a perfect piece of NY pizza gooey with fresh tasty sauce and melted cheese and perfectly thin, soft dough that folds in your hand as you pick it up and you can bite right through. This was an excellent NY pizza and I will certainly be sure to stop more often on my trips through The Bronx.
