I've never been to Italy, but after dinner at Zero Otto Nove I'm pretty sure my passport should get an honorary stamp. We started with the Patate Salsiccia e Provola, and I immediately understood why Italians talk with their hands my mouth was too busy eating to say anything. Crispy potatoes, savory sausage, and gooey provola cheese... comfort food at its finest. For my main course, I had the Pollo Capriccio with a glass of red wine. The chicken was so tender I barely needed a knife, and the wine had me looking around for a Vespa to ride back to the Bronx. The service was fantastic friendly, attentive, and patient enough to let me butcher every Italian word on the menu without judging me. At least not out loud. Was here for lunch for a fine dining splurge. Was seated in the back with the oven, skylight and celebrated beautiful decor. The octopus appetizer was so sublime. I ordered the special striped bass with clams and cherry tomatoes baked in aluminum foil in the large oven. Bread was fresh and mopped up all the lovely sauce. Absolutely delicious. Another visit to Trattoria Zero Otto Nove, because some traditions are non-negotiable. Ms. J. and I do the New York Botanical Garden first and then reward ourselves properly with pasta. As one should. I ordered the Pasta al Forno, which showed up hot, cheesy, and very much not interested in being subtle. Comfort food doing the absolute most -- baked, sauced, and bubbling like it knew it was the right choice. One would think "Boiled eggs in pasta?", but trust me, the bechamel sauce takes it to the next level. Ms. J. went for the daily special: Radiatori in Cartoccio, cooked inside a sealed pocket of aluminum foil and opened tableside like a little pasta reveal. Steamy, aromatic, and frankly a bit of a showoff -- in the best possible way. And then there was the Tiramisu. We shared it (heroically), and I'm just going to say it: top-tier tiramisu. Not too sweet, beautifully balanced, rich without being heavy -- one of the best we've had in NYC, and we do not make that claim lightly. We both love tiramisu. We both judge tiramisu. My first review for 2025! After visiting the NY Botanical Garden with my family, we make it a point to come to Arthur Ave for some great Italian food. We had come to Zero Otto Nove our first time over 10 years ago and I thought this would be a great time for a repeat after the recent train show. I still remember the rustic decor and we were seated at the front dining room this time. A basket of sliced Italian loaf to be dipped in EVOO is always a welcoming sight when we sit down. Starting with Clams Oreganata and a La San Matteo Pizza for the table is a good way to start. The pizza comes fresh out of the domed pizza oven with a crispy charred hand rolled crust, bubbling mozzarella, crumbled sausage and chopped broccoli rabe. Ask for more bread if you want to soak up the sauce in the clams. Around the table, we had assorted pasta and seafood dishes from the regular menu as well as the specials. The Risotto alla Pescatore is loaded with scallops, clams and mussels, which my wife loved. My sister loved her Linguini alla Vongole with fresh clams and fresh pasta. My other sister went with the Fillet of Sole with mussels arranged the fish & vegetables in a creamy sauce. When I heard Osso Bucco was a special I knew I had to try it. The meat fell off the braised veal shank into the pool of sauce. The side of risotto & cannelloni beans was a nice accompaniment. With so many great restaurants on Arthur Ave, it took us a while to make the roundabout back to Zero Otto Nove, but I'm glad we did and hopefully won't take us as long the next time round! read more

Was honestly baffled when I saw that I hadn't reviewed Zero Otto Nove. The only explanation is that I've been heading there since before I was actively Yelping. My family has been there a number of times through the years and this past Saturday, my wife and I decided it's been too long. Arthur Avenue was packed on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and we were greeted by friendly and professional hostesses. We lucked into a table for two in an otherwise full restaurant. I recognized our waiter from past trips, also pleasant and professional. The restaurant is charming and certainly transports us to Italy. We decided to have a selection of appetizers and a vegetable side. Mini meatballs and polenta are a favorite. The fava and artichoke appetizer is quite good. The burrata and beet is super high quality. The Brussels sprouts and guanciale vegetable side is nicely prepared. We also really enjoyed the ample cold antipasto platter. My wife enjoyed a glass of a Super Tuscan red wine. Nice opportunity to remind ourselves how much we love this restaurant! read more

We had been there a few years back when the upstairs was open ... it truly felt like you were in a piazza in Italy. I feel that recently portions and quality have slightly diminished as their popularity has increased. Now the quality is just average. The Ceasars salad was bland and was rather small. The pasta dish lacked sauce and was also on the dry side. The pizza and eggplant appie dish were delicious. Little touches like grated cheese had to be requested and was not nearly enough. Went here as a party of 10 before Christmas. Food is great, Octopus is perfect, Squid Linguini is tasty. Entrees of my guests looked great (pastas, pizzas and various meat dishes). Everyone loved the tastes but commented that the portion sizes are rather sparse for the price you are paying ($20 - $30 entrees are slightly larger than a typical appetizer at other places). Mediocre house wine is priced at $14/glass (approx. 6 ounces). Some of the drink specials were enjoyable by my guests, so that would be the way to go. Service was adequate, staff seemed impatient and somewhat cranky, but they got the job done. Taking off 2 stars mainly due to portion sizing and aloof service. Your mileage may vary - this place is very popular and crowded most times, so I am sure my review may be a one off. Thankfully, my meal was a corporate function so the expense wasn't out of pocket. We averaged about $100 -$125 per person, but while the food was enjoyable, a few of us were still hungry and met up afterwards at Bonchan in Yonkers for some double-fried chicken and bao. read more

Zero Otto Nove, in Little Italy in the Bronx, serves amazing Italian food. We got the caprese pizza (four slices), rigatoni con zucca, and linguini puttanseca. The caprese pizza had fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, oregano, arugula, and shaved parmigiano. The pizza dough came out and fresh with a soft texture. I believe it tastes better when not folded. The rigatoni came with butternut squash puree, peas, and porcini mushrooms. The al dente texture tasted amazing, and the thickness of the rigatoni made it filling. I loved the butternut squash puree and would highly recommend this dish. The table came with four slices of bread and olive oil. The service was great. Waiters filled our water glasses without us asking, and they continually checked in on us. One major issue, however, is that I feel that there's not much to do around Little Italy in the Bronx. The nearby New York Botanical Garden is about a thirty-minute walk away, but I feel that there aren't other interesting sights to see or things to do around the area. read more

I should've known how this experience would go before I even walked in the door. As my sister, two nieces, and I approached the entrance of Zero Otte in the Bronx, (Arthur Ave) one of the waiters -- a tall man, easily over 6'4" -- was heading inside. Rather than holding the door or even acknowledging us, he slipped through while my family held the door open for me, looking visibly annoyed. That small moment set the tone for what would turn out to be a disappointing experience in terms of service and attitude. We were a group of seven celebrating a family birthday -- a lively, happy occasion and a decent tab for any restaurant. Unfortunately, the staff didn't treat it that way. The service from start to finish was cold, unwelcoming, and frankly rude. There was no introduction, no warmth, and absolutely no sense of hospitality. And with a table of ex-hostesses,waitress and bartenders we know what customer service looks like and especially how it should feel. When the tall waiter came to our table to hand out drinks, he made no effort to do so professionally -- leaning awkwardly across the table without a word or proper attention shoving the drink across. His demeanor stayed sour and dismissive throughout. What made it even more disappointing was that our table wasn't demanding or difficult -- no special requests, no substitutions, nothing complicated. Yet the energy and attitude from the staff made it feel like we were an inconvenience. The same tall waiter and others repeatedly looked toward our table, whispered, and turned away quickly when caught. It felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. Our new waiter, Dutch, (who changed without notice from the tall guys after the awkward water incident) and Dutch wasn't much better -- short in tone and equally disengaged. Ironically, the only time the staff seemed genuinely cheerful was when we were getting ready to leave. Suddenly there were smiles and lighthearted tones -- a complete contrast from the rest of our visit, and honestly, it spoke volumes. The food was decent -- a fair 7/10. The flavors were decent, portions fair, and presentation fine. The atmosphere, though, carried the entire experience. The interior of the building was simple, and beautiful: the rustic brick with mix of plaster walls gave a charming touch, reminiscent of medieval or historic Italy and the layout had real potential. Most important flaw is that The lighting was poor and on the dim side, and many bulbs -- at least fifteen -- clearly needed replacing, which dulled what could have been an even warmer and more welcoming vibe. It's a shame that such a visually appealing restaurant with decent food was overshadowed by poor service and attitude. Zero Otte needs to work on its customer service being more warm and welcome with more professionalism and having workers that look like they want to be there. A restaurant's atmosphere and menu can only carry it so far -- the experience truly depends on how guests are treated, and in this case, that part fell flat. We got the Margherita - super fresh, soft dough, and each slice has that delicious wood fired flavor; you really can't go wrong with a classic pie like that. I'd love to come again to try their other pies - like the one with spicy sopressata. I was really excited for the squid ink linguini - which you can get mild or spice; would definitely recommend spicy - it isn't hot spicy more so a subtle warmth on your lips due to the chili oil. The calamari was cooked to perfection - super soft and still got that nice springy texture. First I ordered the eggplant parm app, then ordered the marinara pizza that has anchovies, garlic, olives and I wanted mozzarelle on top, of course, I had to pay extra for that. After a 30min drive, I had to double park on Arthur Avenue to collect my order. Of course, I had to hurry because being double-parked angers the Italians. Once I got home, I realized (after a few bites, I'm like, where are my anchovies?) I did not get the marinara, but instead, I got a margarita and paid for the extras that I didn't get. How could they make a mistake like that? I called the restaurant and had to wait on hold five long minutes to complain about their inexcusable mistake. Let this be a lesson. Just check all your food products before you take anything home if you're doing takeout. You just can't trust anyone that's under 21 nowadays because of their stupidity and laziness in doing anything correct and take responsibility. Popular Italian restaurant in the Bronx with authentic vibes. The food is decent, but could use a few points of improvement. I ordered the La Riccardo pizza ($20.95), which was interesting because it had butternut squash puree instead of the traditional tomato sauce. While the squash did give the pizza a bit of unique sweetness, I personally prefer the classic tomato sauce as I feel it just pairs better with the rest of the pizza. My main critique of the pizza though is that it was just way too salty. I think it was mainly the pancetta pieces on the pizza, paired with the mozzarella and potentially additional added salt that caused me to have to chug my water to finish the slice. I also ordered the Pasta al Forno ($27.95), which was baked rigatoni with meatballs, sopressata, ricotta, mozzarella, sliced egg, and tomato sauce. Maybe with the exception of the egg, which was a bit more unique, this was a classic pasta with meat and was very tasty. My critique of this dish though was that the portion size was a bit small considering the price. The restaurant itself has nice authentic Italian vibes with historic looking brick walls and traditional decor. Many of the staff also appear to be Italian. Even though there are technically three Little Italys in NYC (Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx), most people usually pit the Manhattan and Bronx ones against each other when discussing which one is the best. While people would automatically crown the Manhattan as the true one, it's actually the Little Italy in the Bronx that is the crown jewel (frequently called the "Real Little Italy of NYC"). Having grown up a few miles away, I have had the privilege of easily accessing all of the shops and restaurants along the Arthur Ave and E 187th St strips. While some of the spots are better than others, Zero Otto Nove has remained one of the best restaurants in the neighborhood. Zero Otto Nove is the creation of Roberto Paciullo; the original location is here in the Bronx and the business has since expanded to three other locations in NYC and Westchester. I heard that they transport NYC water up to their Westchester locations so that the quality of the food can be the same no matter which location you visit. That being said, I'm speaking of the Bronx location, so let's get into specifics. They did a great job with the decor and aesthetics here - and if the goal was to be transported to an outdoor trattoria in Italy they succeeded. The restaurant has high ceilings, neutral colors that match outdoor stone structures, and lighting to emulate being outdoors. The menu is mostly Southern Italian cuisine (think red sauce-based dishes) with a good selection of apps, salads, pastas, and mains. I've been here several times over the years and am consistently impressed with the food. The chicken capricciosa is one of my favorite dishes to get here; traditionally it's a chicken cutlet that is topped with salad greens that are dressed, however Zero does it a little different utilizing marinated tomatoes, pesto, and melted mozzarella. Other standouts for me are their polenta, pizzas, clams, and pasta al forno. Everything I've had has been high quality with great flavor and fresh ingredients. It's one of those rare places for me where I have not experienced a bad meal. Service is consistently great; everyone is very attentive and friendly - they really enhance the experience. Overall, not all restaurants in the Bronx's Little Italy are created equal, but you can't go wrong here at Zero Otto Nove. There was a 30 minute wait for a party of six, which was shorter than two other nearby Italian restaurants that we tried. Street parking. Lots of spaces but basically all parked out, as you would expect in NYC. This place was great! Lively and family friendly, lots of parties with kids. They made off menu regular rigatoni noodles with marinara sauce for our extremely picky kids, which they really enjoyed. We also had the La Cirilo which was a very tasty mushroom pizza, and Pollo Capriccioso which was a large breaded chicken cutlet smothered with mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto. Yum!
