When I came in and announced that we were first timers, the extremely friendly Jonathan rang a bell for us. We thoroughly enjoyed a plain slice to start. It's got a thin crust, nicely charred, and the sauce was well balanced, not too tart or sweet. We followed with a penne vodka slice to which I added the recommended hot pepper oil. The pasta was cooked just right and quite tasty and chewy. Finally, I had to try the new tricolor slice - thick stripes of red sauce, vodka sauce and pesto. Delicious combo. Pugsley's is not easy to find but definitely worth seeking out. A good out of the way pizza shop in the Bronx. This is behind other buildings, near townhouses and apartments. Mostly had Fordham college students eating there. I think people only go here because they know about it, or like us, find it randomly on Google maps. There is a little parking lot. The pizza and pasta were both good. NYC style! The restaurant is filled with paraphernalia, photos, graffiti, and other knick-knacks. I don't think that was for show, they just never throw anything out. Back in New York City right after my Italian trip, I visit "Little Italy" in the Bronx and found this fun Italian-American spot selling creative pizza that will surely disgust the Italian nonnas back in Europe. At this spot, a former stable turned restaurant and a favorite of students from nearby Fordham University, I tried pizza topped with penne ala vodka for those dinner nights when one can't decide between pasta or pizza. Someone said, "Great idea, put them together!" Also, I tried a dessert that brought a delicious trouple: creamy Sicilian cannoli, and Nutella spread on top of a freshly baked pizza. So my pal and I were in the mood for some pizza and I figured we'd go to one of my favorite spots Pugsleys Pizza up in the Bronx. The owner, Sal and his wonderful wife were at the helms this time. Very beautiful and happy couple. They make this spot what it is. We ordered the 10 inch small pie and it was definitely enough for two people. This pizza is so delicious. You definitely have to try it if you're in the Fordham area. Cooked perfectly. Nice andd golden. Perfect cheese to sauce ratio. The sauce is so delicious and crust is nice and crispy. There is no way you can go wrong at this spot. The service is Grand. They are very accommodating. You put your order in and they will bring the pie to your table. They also have other food there and you could order single slices if you'd like. The joint itself is nice and cozy. It's always cool to eat in there. Pretty great little place in the Bronx. One slice was definitely enough for me, though I tend to eat a bit less than most. But it absolutely filled me up. Great place! My personal favorite is the penne vodka pizza. Owners and staff are so friendly I absolutely love coming here. Inside there is limited seating but they also have a patio. Im from CA and live in CT. I am peticular about my pizza. Hands down the best pizza I've had on the East Coast. The dough was crunching and doughy on the edge the way it's supposed to be. A solid pizza stop. I was looking for something inexpensive and on the way from our subway stop to the NY Botanical Garden. I saw Pugsley's pizza on the map and decided to give it a go. It was $11 for two slices of pizza and a diet snapple which worked for what we needed. We ordered, paid, and they brought our food out to us at our table. We got a penne slice and a cheese slice. I wish they had some sort of veggie slice but that's okay. The penne slice was my favorite but that was probably because I had never had anything like it. Pasta on pizza? Revolutionary. I havent been back here in a few years but so glad to see the amazing couple was still healthy and doing well thru covid. My friend and I always have a great time when we come. CURB SIDE pickup and PARKING LOT available. BACON ...pizza..I ordered the Hawaiian pizza but Pulsey uses bacon which I think tastes magnificent! It was LOADED underneath and on top of the cheese so this was one of the best Hawaiian bacon pizza I've had. Plain slice had the perfect thinness(not too thick or too thin) though the dough was just slightly chewy in texture in the edge but makes for good base without worrying about it falling apart. 4 stars for curbside pickup, amazing Hawaiian pizza and friendly staff. It's as if you're walking into your family's house when you enter, and are greeted by Sal, Pete & Pina. You always feel welcome here. Another stop on finding the best pizza in the west Bronx landed me in Pugsley's pizza. Supposedly, a Fordham University staple. I went early almost right when they opened shortly after 11 to avoid any crowds which was a success. When I arrived, there was only one person in there. A older gentleman who looked like a local due to the cook being on the first name basis with him. This was my first time entering Pugsely and I found the decor charming. Old school but charming. A lot of pics of customers on the wall, police officers and odd old school lounge bench areas for eating and a dining room table looking area that you would find in your personal home. I walked top the counter and ordered, behind the counter was a older man named Sal. He was the owner. SO that was cool. I ordered a large half Meatball pie and told him this was my first time. He told me through a heavy accented English (he's Italian) that he would make me " a beautiful pie" . I went to go get a sit and he started making pies but then he gave me a slice on the house , I don't know if it was because I would wait for him to make an entire pie or was it because it was my first visit but it was appreciated. While I started to eat the slice of cheese, he yelled over do I like spicy, I told him yes and he just pointed at a bowl of chili/jalapeno oil . I put some oil and jalapenos on my slice, and it was amazing. the slice was good , but putting this concoction on my pizza elevated it. Was unlike anything I remember putting on a slice. I think the bowl of oil was a "If you know, you know" thing because I later had another person ask for it , because I had brought the whole bowl to my table greedily. So now finally the pie. The pie was good. I ordered a half meatball but was disappointed with the lack of explosive flavor in the meatballs. I was expecting it to be something more special than normal meatball coming from an Italian restaurant. There was nothing wrong with the pie but nothing amazing. Everything was solid tho. Crust, cheese and sauce was good. What made it better for me was the addition of the chili sauce/oil! That made it more delicious. What also made the pizza experience good was the restaurant itself. Its local, its cute , its authentic and the fact that the owner was there turning out pies was an great experience. read more

There is no place on earth like pugsley pizza. While it serves the primary function of a Fordham hangout, anyone would be well served to come here and try those absolutely stupendous chicken rolls. If you don't eat meat you should still stick your head in here to meet the Natale family, especially Sal, who has a poet soul and won't hesitate to share it. Small pull in parking lot in front to accommodate about six cars. Outdoor and Indoor seating available. Outdoor seating only available until 10pm. Don't let the old looking decor distract from the taste of their pizza. Pizza was amazing! My Sicilian was well toasted, just enough dough, tasty sauce, I haven't had pizza like this for a long time. The best cheese pizza I've ever had. The buffalo chicken slices were delicious and the chicken tasted so fresh. Super friendly service by the husband and wife. They make slices to order. Very old school, very authentic. The guy (sal) is quite the character and you can tell he's proud of his pizza shop! Interesting interior decor- you can tell they're a staple among the community. This was a fun, family-owned and run restaurant with great staff and delicious food. We ordered a pizza, and when it was ready and right before bringing it to our table, they hit a gong and beeped a horn, Marx brothers style. So exciting! The old fashioned decor was perfect, menu selections are excellent, and they go out of their way to make you feel right at home. We ate there before going to the Botanical Gardens--it is within walking distance of there, but parking is plentiful in their lot and on the street. I happen to have stumbled across this place by happenstance. My friend and I were hungry for some pizza and he pulled this place's name on his phone. I heard about this place but never had the chance to go. Unfortunately for us upon arrival we got totally lost and confused because all we saw was a gas station and several businesses. But just then we saw a group of college kids walking through a side way and we said to ourselves, "these kids must be going there and let's follow them." And surely enough they took us to the promise land. It was a magical place where there was just all college kids lined up just to get a slice or two. We followed and it was the best decision ever. As a Fordham student, I LOVE PUGSLEY'S. This place will always be my go-to after a night out or just somewhere to go for a quick bite to eat. The prices are reasonable, great for college students. I usually get the chicken calzone, but I don't have a picture of that. My other favorite thing to get is the Sicilian kisses, which I also don't have a picture of. I strongly suggest you try those two things. However, the pizza is also great. Definitely not my favorite pizza place in NYC, but it has a special place in my heart!! read more
