We tried Loui's Pizza for the first time on our recent trip to Detroit. First off, the ambiance in that place is incredible. Great family and welcoming vibes. Next, the service was great. We asked about what people typically get and our server gave us the best rundown. She was incredibly friendly and kept checking in on us. Now, for the pizza. Wow! It was so yummy!! we got the original pepperoni and then we got a veggie pizza. Both were great, but we think the simpler the better! I've been to Louie's before, but it's been about 8 years. My mom came into town and saw it on a TV show and asked to go. I am disappointed to say it's gone way down hill. We ordered an antipasto salad which is the only thing that was edible. We also ordered cheese bread and a small pizza. The cheese bread not only was well overcooked which transferred the burnt taste to every piece but it lacked flavor. The pizza also somehow was burnt on the outside but so soft on the inside it fell apart and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. We were so let down by the food, however the service was great. I cannot recommend anyone getting food from here. read more

Love the interior, a true dive ambiance. Ordered medium antipasto and large pepperoni pizza. Salad was amazing. Medium is perfect for two, maybe three people. Pizza was great. The crust in this Detroit Style pizza was one of the best that I have had. The pepperoni is under the cheese, I wish it was on top so that it could crisp up. Service was great we were never in need of anything. One negative is parking is very limited, the available lot is no where near large enough for the capacity of the restaurant. This pizza is delicious- dare I say one of the best in the Detroit area!! Outside of a classic salad I have never ordered anything else here so I cannot speak on the other menu items, however the pizza is so good I don't see why you would want anything else! This is a louder type restaurant, TV's playing and typically louder and more busy crowd- although the few times I've been here at dinner time I have not had to wait. The service was very efficient; I ordered salad and pizza and within a couple minutes salad was out and less than 10 minutes our entire pizza was ready too. Outside of the outstanding pizza, this place is pretty cute. I'm not sure if they still do this, but they used to allow you to write on and hang any large bottle you ordered on the wall, serving as a very cute and sentimental decoration. read more

I went to Loui's with my wife almost 2 years ago now and I still dream of how great this pizza was, and I make and eat a lot of za. The pizza sauce was one of the best I've ever had. I also couldn't believe how light and airy the dough was for being Detroit style. I've had the pleasure of enjoying my share of well executed Detroit style pizza, but Loui's hands down is the best I've ever had and top 5 za's of all time. The restaurant feeling a bit like a blast from the past made our experience that much better. The place was packed on a Friday, but we were lucky to only wait about 30 minutes. The restaurant was so busy, but the service our waiter provided was still great and patient with newbies. I'm so glad we went out of our way to come eat here while we were briefly in town on the way to Ann Arbor for Texas @ Michigan in 2024 (Hook 'em!). If I'm back in Detroit I will go well out of my way to eat here again. read more

Loui's has been there for many years and has always been raved about, even by TV food people. We finally got there a couple of weeks ago. Bottom line: If you like a TON of cheese on your sort of deep-dish pizza, Loui's is for you. My spouse and I have tried many styles and pizza joints, and this pizza is so over-cheesed for us that we ended up scraping a lot of it off before we could eat any. The atmosphere is certainly old-school, lots of empty straw-wrapped chianti bottles hanging around, so it's actually sort of charming in that way. Service was fine, but not especially attentive when we first were seated. It took about ten minutes for a server to approach, and this was not a busy time, about 4:45 PM. Some seemed to be standing around, or wandering in and out of the kitchen, but not interested in waiting on us. Kinda weird. I don't think we'll be back. There are many better choices out there. read more

There was two of us, we split an individual antipasto salad, small cheese bread and large pizza. It was all delicious, the restaurant makes you feel like you're going back in time. The wait staff is busy and attentive. We went Saturday night at 6:30 and it was a 45 minute wait, it was worth waiting. We had so much pizza and cheese bread left over and it reheats great! Corner pieces are the best. Clean and well maintained, not sure it's been updated since it opened but no need to. Waitresses seem like they've been there forever and give great service. I can't say enough good things about Loui's. Loui's was my last stop on what was a year-long goal of visiting all of the classic Detroit style pizza restaurants, which are trace ownership original to someone involved with Buddy's. It definitely wins my "Best Classic Detroit Style Pizza" award. To start, this place probably hasn't seen much of a renovation or upgrade since it opens, which certainly adds to the charm. It's covered with signed wine bottles from head to toe, with historic photos and articles, a fish tank behind the bar, and more adorning practically every open square inch of space. There's just so much character. I went with my standard pepperoni and mushroom, which I always order when it's my first time having pizza someplace. It came loaded with pepperoni (under the cheese as it should be) and A TON of cheese and generous dollops of sauce on top. The distribution was a bit uneven which led to some slices not being quite as good as nothers, but I instantly knew why so many poeple rave about Loui's. The place was absolutely packed and we had to wait for almost an hour, plus our service was a bit slow beacuse they were short staffed. However, they were doing the best they could and given the amazingness of the product, nobody seemed to mind at all. Loui's is an absolute classic. A blast from the past. I've been going to Loui's for decades! Best antipasto salad in town! We take leftovers home and add more lettuce. They give you so much ham, salami and cheese -- I am NOT complaining. Love it. We buy the salad dressing to have in the fridge. The pizza is so unique and SO DELICIOUS. Just the right amount of toppings and super cheesy. Everyone wants the corners. Went here to celebrate my niece's and my birthday with a larger group of my family. Loved that the inside that they have kept it original after all these years and also hang with chianti whicker bottles that you get to decorate when you finish the bottle. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered 4 different types of pizza and let me tell you, it was delicious. It is heavy on the cheese but its definitely stands out as some of the best deep dish in the area. The dough is a little different than I'd expect and was on the lighter side, I am actually surprised it holds the cheese up so well but it was a good balance with full of flavor. The ambience and friendly staff also make it a worth while visit. If you have never been here plan on starting with their antipasto salad and cheese bread. I was in Michigan for a month and knew that I had to have Detroit-style pizza. Well, I searched Loui's pizza and hit the jackpot on my first try. You'll notice when you come in that there are a bunch of bottles hanging around the place, which makes this restaurant so unique. Loui's has a very homey vibe. I was greeted by a lovely waitress who took my order quickly and warned me that the pizza would take some time to come out. The pizza did take a while to come out, but that's because it's a very thick, Detroit-style pizza that takes a while to make. But, oh, it is WORTH the wait. The pizza was absolutely delicious. I got a pepperoni pizza with onions, mushrooms, and jalapenos. The Jalapenos were spicy and added such an incredible component to this already flavorful pizza.
