Hot Honey Ricotta-roni
Ethan T.

Their pizzas are good! They are hands down better than Jets, and a couple of slices will fill you up easily. Staff are cool too. Second time trying this place and I like how they are consistent. Be aware though, they will sell out closer to closing time, so order earlier. My biggest complaint is that the edges of the deep dish are pretty stiff so it scratched up the roof of my mouth pretty good. Which I get the texture might be a part of the appeal but my mouth didn't appreciate it the next day. Now onto what we ordered (we had a pizza party btw, didn't order this all for myself). My favorite was the Carne Supreme - great take on a meatlovers pizza. Perfect amount of meat and the marinara on top helps cut through the richness of the protein. I'm also a fan of the sausage they used, way better than the typical Italian sausage you see on pizzas. Next up is the Hot Honey Ricotta-roni - it's a good hot honey pizza. The ricotta is nice and on the lighter side, wish there was more basil, and the heat from the hot honey was spot on. My third favorite was the Maui Wowi - I like some heat and the jalapenos were just the right amount. The BBQ sauce added some sweet to it, but it felt like an overwhelming amount to the point that I couldn't taste the ham underneath. Lastly the Maui - felt like a good Hawaiian pizza. Nothing special, I did like the contrast between the acidity from the marinara and pineapples to the ham. Overall a good pizza joint. Will order again some time after the roof of my mouth's healed. Worth trying!

Nashville hot chicken pizza and hot honey ricotta pizzas

We ordered in advance right when the business opened up at 4pm. We were the first people there to pick up our order and by time we left there was a line out the door! The hours are very limited so it is always busy. We ordered 2 small Nashville hot chicken and hot honey ricotta pizzas. Both were absolutely loaded with toppings. The hot honey was our favorite with huge dollops of ricotta in every bite. The Nashville hot chicken was not necessarily hot but the sauce, chicken, and pickles were like a chicken sandwich on pizza. Very unique. The only downside for both was there was not a lot of sauce and they do not fully cut the pizza. Overall this place has extremely solid pizza and was reasonably priced for what you get. We liked the hot honey ricotta the best but would recommend getting an extra side of sauce. Its nice to see that they constantly switch up their menu too. I wish they would have better salad options- the pictures online look disgusting.

Palazzo Di Pizza hit my feed on social media with their Bad Brads collab. I love brisket and pizza, so this was a no brainer. The storefront is set back just off of 11 mile on the corner of S Blair Ave, in Royal Oak. A quaint little carryout shop with a pretty small parking lot. The sign is impossible to miss. The staff was all extremely friendly and personable. My pizza was ready when I walked in, so my experience in the store was pretty short lived. Although I noticed that it was clean and well lit. The PDP x Brad Brads was incredible. You could taste the quality of the brisket and the sausage was great. Their webpage lists the following ingredients: Palazzo Cheese Blend, Chopped Brisket, Smoked Cheddar Brisket Sausage (contains pork), Pepper Jack Cheese, 321 Sauce, Smoked Jalapeño Sauce, Pecorino Romano and Parmesan Reggiano The pizza tasted great and all the ingredients/sauces worked well together. It was a Detroit style pizza with a good ingredient to bread ratio. The crust was perfectly toasted with just a touch of char. Overall excellent pizza. My only complaint is the price. I am not above paying for good food, but $20 for a four square (small) pizza seemed a touch high, even with the collab. To be honest though, I would get it again. It was that good.

This place serves excellent Detroit style pizza. Their hot honey ricotta pizza is so good! The flavors go so well together. As a plus they use halal beef pepperoni.

Slice of the Margarita

Genuinely, whole-heartily, the greatest Detroit-style pizza I have had thus far in Metro Detroit. It's authentic, bright, delicious and crunchy all at the same time. And I am amazed by how BOLD the service is. The co-owner Robert (I believe) was there and he was incredibly warm and polite, we had a conversation about... I forgot. But I remember feeling very happy walking out. I came into pick up my Square Margarita pizza and lo and behold, it was in the pizza-cutters hand at that very moment, fresh out of the oven! And now that I say that, I remember me and Robert's conversation. He was basically just flexing on me that they make great time, which they do, which is probably why they're top 50 in the entire country. He goes over to the gelato station after I got my pizza, and he surprised me. I asked if I could split the Pistachio and the Stracciatella, to which he grinned, and said this: "Hey bro, usually we don't split the flavors, but I gotchu." I was so happy. But I thought I'd note in this review, I don't think everyone is automatically allowed to split flavors just because I did it. Anyways, I wasn't expecting much of the gelato since I kinda just came for the pizza. When I tell you. I wish I could apologize to my great grandmother up in heaven, with a tear in my eye as I tell her she doesn't have the best gelato recipe. The first spoonful of the Italian Pistachio Gelato is genuinely a bucket-list experience. I beg anyone who's coming here for their pizza to please at-least TRY the gelato, you cannot leave Palazzo without it. In regard to the inside experience, it's very small, and they run with a very tight kitchen. I definitely mess with the system, and I also feel like it doesn't need to be super big or anything. I think the food honestly speaks for itself, which I love. I love food spots that don't prioritize flashy looks and quaintness over the actual food. Not that every good looking place is bad and vice versa, but YOU ARE going to a food spot just for the food, not to look around. Right? Well if you aren't that kinda person, Palazzo Di Pizza will change your life. The food is gorgeous to every sense in the human body, the people are ill of kindness, and Palazzo Di Pizza might just be the greatest place I have reviewed on Yelp. But only time will tell. FIVE OUT OF FIVE. EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. PALAZZO, FOREVER

Spicy sausage and pepper pizza
Mina M.

Wow that's good! I can see why this place is in the top 50 pizza slice in the country! We ordered online and they sent us a message that they were extra busy, we waited about an hour and it was ready when we picked up. Small spicy sausage and pepper pizza. The chunks of Italian sausage are incredible! I like that it's sliced thick and not crumbles. A lot of flavors from the peppers, onions and sausage. The sauce is great and I like that they dollop it on top of the slices instead of soak the crust. The crust is covered in the cheese so it keeps its crisp well. The pick up area is located in a parking lot making for convenient pick up and they even have gelato as well. So many incredible pizza options! I can't wait to try the hot honey and Nashville hot chicken pizzas.

Awesome Detroit style pizza, with highly quality crust, toppings, sauce and cheese that all taste very good. Would rate right up there with Loui's as the best Detroit style pizza I have ever had.

Izzy W.

Omg this pizza is soooo good. It's been on my list for a while now but seeing it on the top 50 pizza slices list made me finally try it! We got a small hot honey/whipped ricotta/pepperoni and some cheese bread and holy cow I totally see why it got that accolade. They give the hot honey on the side so you can control how much you have, and the sweetness and heat perfectly complements the sweetness of the ricotta and the spice of the pepperoni. I love Detroit style pizza and this is a good one!! Can't wait to come back and try other pies. As other reviewers said, I would definitely recommend ordering far ahead. I scheduled my order for that evening a few hours ahead and had no issues but there was a few people still waiting for their orders when I arrived. IMO, the cheese bread wasn't anything crazy special, but the sauce is really good.

Hot honey ricotta
Lauren D.

I tried the viral hot honey ricotta pizza from Palazzo Di Pizza. The ricotta was bland and really didn't add anything to the flavor. The hot honey was unique, very honey forward with a strong spicy kick, but overall the combo just didn't wow me. On the positive side, the pizza was cooked perfectly with a great crust. Next time I'd stick with a regular pepperoni.

Pizza and cheese bread

This place has been getting a lot of hype and I was underwhelmed. It's a decent Detroit style deep dish but it just didn't hit the mark for me at the price point. I think you're better off going to more of the established players. Who knows I may have caught them on an off day.

Caprese pizza
Two Girls, One For K.

Pizza is insane. No doubt about it. I'd highly recommend the caprese pizza to my fellow friends who don't love meat on their pizza. However, expect to be waiting another 30 min for your food even after your pick-up time. Also, the staff seemed very inconvenienced by every customer who walked through the door during the dinner rush. No where to sit down. You pick up your pizza and leave. Perfect for a movie night in.

Not sure what all the hype is about. Yeah it's good pizza but not something to go crazy over. To me it's just standard.

Louis is the best Detroit style pizza in Metro Detroit…read more The crust is soft and doughy in the best way possible but still retains a nice crunch on the edge, the amount of cheese is generous, and the toppings are almost marinaded in the deliciously sweet pizza sauce. The result is a mouthwatering pie-like pizza that you're not getting anywhere else. If you want a lot of topping options, Louis isn't for you, it's far more limited than competitors, but I would argue they perfect the basics. The interior is charming in a straight out of the 1970s sort of way. The dining area can get pretty loud but the noise level is friendly and it's great being in a full restaurant surrounded by other people having a good time. There's a strong community feeling you don't get in sterile, corporate chains or local takeout spots. Despite my overwhelming praise for the pizzas they make, I also have to be honest. In the most charitable way possible, I hope that they can take some of their much deserved recent success and reinvest it back into the business because the front of house staff is regularly in over their heads. You can safely add 15 minutes to whatever time they quote you when placing your order. I had one order that was close to 30 minutes late and another that was missing all the extra sauces. As a result, pickup orders are very frustrating. The other criticism I have is that the parking lot is very crowded and routinely spills out into the surrounding streets. The lot size is limited, so not much they can do but they could work with the city to repave the lot and color label certain areas. I hope more people check out Louis. It is a gem.

As a New Haven pizza fan, the REAL kind, I was extremely disappointed. I know that after having eaten the real New Haven (Pepe's, Sally's, and Modern), I need to tighten down my expectations, but come on! They have these beautiful ovens, a nice, clean, and pleasant place and they turn out what I would consider pizza no better, perhaps a little less good than Hungry Howies thin crust pizza! New Haven is supposed to be crispy and chewy, NOT soggy. I tried Farmington Hills a few months ago and ate in, then last week tried Birmingham and carried out. For those of you thinking that my carry-out experience may have been bad due to the 3 miles I had to drive home, but I've carried out a LOT of pies from a LOT of locations, and I DO take that into account. There are some positives: The ingredients were impeccable. Fresh, high-quality cheese and the mushrooms were done really well. The pepperoni was of good quality but nothing worth writing home about. There are a lot of great pepperonis in the area. The doneness was great. It wasn't over- or undercooked. The flavor was good, but not, as some have said, amazing. In both cases, the crust was limp and soggy, NOT chewy and crispy. Not in the least. I don't mind if it's a little bit floppy, but not like this. An analogy I might give is to compare Tomatoes Apizza to Modern Apizza in actual New Haven is like comparing Jets Pizza to Loui's. Jet's is fine, but Loui's! (If you know, you know). To me, Modern in New Haven is at par, and not to be sacrilegious to our beloved Detroit Style, with Loui's or Palazzo Di Pizza, so it's not a style issue. My two experiences were both the same, so I don't know what to think. I'll give them one more try at some point.

I opted for the garlic fries upcharge, bringing my total to $19.00. Somehow I justified it because I like these toppings and these toppings weirdly weren't available on a pizza. Or at least I didn't see it via the phone based ordering system. Yes, that's right, this is all of the future check with wrist bands and pour your own beer situation. Don't look for a paper menu, they ain't here. My sandwich wasn't a grilled cheese. It was basically pesto toast with large sun-dried tomatoes and scraps of mozzarella. Baby spinach was just missing. I did inquire to the host (perchance the only actual employee?) and he did talk to the kitchen and I guess they were out. With that information I turned to my friend Robert and said, "You know why we have servers? So they can let you know they're 86 spinach." I suppose I would have adjusted my order had I known this too. What's nuts is, they have ingredients to make a better grilled cheese. I mean, step one: add cheese. Why not mix the ricotta and pesto together and then add like havarti or something that may actually melt and have flavor. The sun-dried tomatoes should be sliced smaller. The garlic fries were fine, but also could have had more flavor. Robert's and neighboring table's pizza looked fine. Is it better than any other place offering Detroit style pizza? Hard to say. I guess I'm not in a hurry to go back. The kind host did make an adjustment to my bill for lack of spinach--but having a server would have prevented that being necessary.
