A church group cooks out and offers food at a reasonable price, especially when feeding families. Food trucks and booths are also available and some have a fair feeling to them (corn dogs, funnel cake). The festival begins Friday evening and runs all day Saturday. Several bands play during the schedule. It ends Saturday night with fireworks and in between is a parade, inflatables and a petting zoo. Mark your calendar for next year in September!

This is the 20th year for this very nice local Art Show on the Square. We have attended several…read moretimes in the past but, I think this was the best one. There were some very good vendors who had some really nice locally made products that we purchased. There were a number of Food Trucks with a nice variety of different foods on the their menus. The Historical Society had a terrific separate section where they had demonstrations and served free samples of some delicious Dutch oven Apple Fritters. Seemed to be very well organized and from the size of the crowd I think it was a success.

This festival is a lot more organized than other art fests I've attended and they had a very large array of different types of Fine Art and Folk Art. It's even juried so you have a vacancies to win that blue ribbon! The layout is very easy to navigate and they use the whole area for art, music, food, and the historical reenactments. If you've never been to Lagrange, visit during the Arts on the Green. Plan to spend a whole day as it takes a while to really peruse through all the art. Plus you can also visit the shops on their Main Street and really take in that small town America feel!

Twice a year -- Memorial Day and Labor Day -- Louisville sets aside its status as one of the least…read morehealthy cities in the country, and we get a little exercise by the waterfront, and maybe a free t-shirt if you get there at the right time. No drinking or gambling, no Cards or Cats. And yet, still fun. Weird, right? The precise details vary (check the city sites) but the highlight is that they block off a long bike route and a wide spectrum of citizens put air in the tires and grease the rusty chain and enjoy a communal ride. Also wonderful is the fact that you can get the opportunity to ride a kayak or canoe or something on the Ohio. Logistics for that bit of activity usually requires a bit of advanced planning, but it's definitely worth looking into. I've wandered over on more than one occasion with no reservation or access to watercraft and still found myself floating on an actual vessel. The 'hike' portion is an afterthought, in part because it requires almost no additional infrastructure. But walking is still the best speed to experience Waterfront Park. In short, it celebrates healthy behavior, highlights our riverfront, and does so in a very populist way, at a modest cost to Joe Taxpayer. Thanks, corporate sponsors!

I love, love love the Hike, Bike and Paddle -- it's a great, FREE community event. The vendor…read morebooths open at 8:30am and the HBP's start at 10am. People from all walks of life show up to not only hike, bike, paddle, but to participate in Zumba, tai chi, yoga, pickle ball, and to visit all the vendor booths on the lawn before the headlining events kick off at 10 AM. Neil Huffman auto group is always present with a SUV carrying a brand-new kayak and bicycle to give away in a random drawing. No purchase needed to enter. In fact, the first time I decided to be brave and give the paddle a try, I won one of those kayaks! There are other giveaways. Subway is one of the sponsors, so they typically give away gift cards preloaded with $2.50. There we're also free event T-shirts to be given away to the first two were 300 people to attend and typically, they are giving away bike helmets to the first 100 people as well. I've never done the hike, or the bike, but I can say that the maps are very well laid out. They post them on the website well and advance, so you can review. The hike is a 5K, and I believe, the bike is about 15 miles. The mayor participates lots of the events alongside folks. Each of the routes is also accompanied by law enforcement, to lead the way, and just make sure that folks are having a great time and get to interact with them in a different sort of way. My favorite event is obviously the paddle. As a kayaker, I love having the opportunity to gather with two or 300 other kayakers out on the Ohio River. Because it is such a special event, they shut down boat traffic, so the wake is super low. On Labor Day, you even get to paddle through the Mc Alpine locks. This is a once-in-a-lifetime sort of opportunity, as kayaks are not typically allowed down the river past the second Street bridge. If you don't have a kayak or canoe, no worries. There is a group that sets up on the great lawn, and offers free canoe trips in giant 20 person canoes. There is also typically a rental company that you can reserve in advance if you want to rent a smaller canoe for two or three of your friends. It's just such a cool event. It's something I look forward to every Memorial and Labor Day. I'm off work anyway, might as well go out and do something awesome and active with folks in my community! Four stars, only because I wish there were an option to stagger the hike, bike, and paddle so that you could participate in all of them. Unfortunately, they all kickoff at 10 AM and the event is pretty much wrapped up by noon.

Very nostalgic for old school wrestling fans and if you take it for what it is (cheap entertainment) you will have a very enjoyable time. The regulars here have passion and being in the crowd Makes you feel like you are a part of something. Most of there shows are located at Davis arena which is a tiny outdated place. Tickets for big shows run between 10-15 bucks. Depending on the event it usually isn't extremely crowded. Definitely a fun time for old or new wrestling fans. The wrestlers interact with the kiddos quite a bit so that is always good to see. I personally am proud to have this organization be a part of our city and wish it nothing but success.

The Louisville Halloween Festival/Parade is a good time. It takes place around the beginning of…read moreOctober, and definitely gets you pumped up for one of the best seasons! The parade starts towards the evening and is really cute to watch. There are decorated cars, people dressed up in crazy costumes and local businesses handing out candy and coupons. It lasted around 40ish minutes and was fun to watch. The rest of the festival was only a tiny chunk of Bardstown Rd., which surprised me. It was about a 15 minute walk from where we were during the parade to get there. There were multiple tents set up with local vendors and cool stuff to check out, along with a stage for live music. This is a great family event during the fall, and a lot come dressed up, so don't forget your costume! The event lasts for a majority of the day, but I would recommend waiting until later to come, so you can catch the parade too.

Out of all the years of this parade and festival has taken place, this was my very first Halloween…read moreparade along with a few friends, it was also quite a beautiful day for it too although, it was a tad warm it was bearable. We parked behind Mid City mall that surprisingly still had some spots left to park. We walked basically the whole route of where the parade was taking place, and just basically hanging out until it started. We got too see some pretty cool costumes from both adults and kids alike. We got to snag a spot on the porch of Holy Grale, I'd say we probably got the best seat in the house lol. We were impressed with majority of the floats as you can see from my pictures. Picking just one float as a favorite is a difficult decision as they were all good. I'd say for a first year, I was very impressed the setup of this event as well my friends were. Very well organized. We plan on returning next year.

The Keg Fest of Ales is a really great beer festival!…read more Aside from it being across the river in Southern Indiana, here are some of the highlights: -It is a bit spread out. There is some breathing room and on various levels in and around the amphitheater. -They allow chairs in so you can sit and enjoy your brews in some shade. -An awesome, varied selection of beers! -They have a SOUR TRUCK! And entire station dedicated to sour beers. Bless you, Fest of Ales. BLESS YOU!! And thank you. As long as the weather isn't the literal worst, attending this event with be pretty wonderful! They always have a great selection of beers, several food trucks and a bunch of sponsor/non-beer vendor booths to break up the afternoon. A notable thing about this festival is that you don't get a tally card for how many drinks/samples you can get. I *actually* think this encourages more responsible drinking! You just taste what you want as you want it. People aren't rushing to get all the drinks they can get and fill out their tasting sheet! I have been to several different beer festivals, and it seems like it is often a race and challenge to 'complete' your card. Somehow....doing away with the cards might have helped! At least, my experience with the people around me is that they seemed more sober. It is a fun reason to cross the river, get your drink on, and be reminded that New Albany is a pretty cute lil' town!

The Keg Fest of Ale took place at the Riverfront Amphitheater which offers Indiana's view of the Ohio River. It was a nice warm day and there were were occasional breezes which felt great while sipping beer, listening to music, and walking down the riverfront. I have been to many beer festivals before and I have to say this was one of my favorite ones. The view by the river, the spread out festival tents was a nice break from being cramped up next to people who maybe have had too much to drink, and the company I had was really really nice. Plus there was a Yelp booth there of course and Kasen and Kathy were manning it so major yay! There were over 200 breweries there and some new tappings which led to long lines but surprisingly all the lines moved quickly. All a result of the festival being spread out so that's a major plus. So much beer. I tried. I really did try. But I doubt I even tried half of the beers that were offered there. I did get to try some favorites there and I tasted a lot of new ones. I love craft beers and the amazing creative names that breweries come up with. Some of the names just draw you in so hey it works. I especially recall liking a summer shandy from a Northern Michican brewery called Shorts. I tried seeing if this was available at a liquor store after the event but it was not. I hope this company expands as it was one of my favorites out of all the beers I sampled. This event is one I'll have to plan to go to each year. And hey it's for charity! Beer and charity. Enough said. Any other reasons to wonder if this even is worth it? Okay well they also have some food trucks and this year they had one which sold tater tots. I immediately respect any place who offers tater tots, bringing a classic nostalgic food item into an only adult festival. The tater tots took me back to elementary school which was such an easy fun time. Except there wasn't beer. So tater tots and beer combined, AMAZING (Spongebob voice) experience! Seriously, everything about this festival was great. The weather, the company I was with, the food, the event location, and I love how this event didn't have to deal with any vouchers or punch cards. It was just pay, get a wristband and drink whatever you choose. SO much easier than other events, especially after having tasted a dozen or so beers. At this least in this event it's just a matter if you can hand over your event tasting glass and ask for whatever beer you want to sample. I give this event a big 5 stars. Great event in New Albany, Indiana. Already looking forward to next year!

This September festival celebrated year #10 today and it was perfect weather! Bardstown Rd was shut…read moredown from Longest to Grinstead. Vendors, community businesses, food and drinks lined the street. Most tables shut down after 6p but the music went on until 10p. The main stage was close to Grinstead, keeping it closer to Big Bar and Chill Bar. A second stage was across from McDonalds and a variety of performers rotated. My family and I had so much fun. We left with stickers, buttons, bracelets, glitter, clothing and more! Family friendly for all ages. We bumped into several friends and the folks working the booths were fantastically friendly and generous. One day only. We had no issue finding parking in the streets, with only a short walk to the festival. I'm so glad we landed at the Pride Festival today. It was a day of laughing and smiles.

While hanging out with friends this weekend, a few decided to meander over to Apocalypse to check out Poorcastle. I had never been, but was curious, and tagged along to see what all the fuss was about. Held at Apocalypse Brew Works at the intersection of the Clifton and Butchertown neighborhoods, Poorcastle is worth your time to visit. For just $5/day or $10 for the whole weekend, you and your closest friends can enjoy live music from local bands, all while sipping the beverage of your choice at a picnic table and munching on food from local food trucks. I'm not normally one for music festivals due to the decibel level and the crowds, but Poorcastle was one where I had some elbow room, and was also able to visit with my friends without having to shout. All proceeds benefit local organizations, including the Crescent Hill Radio station and the Louisville Leopards. A good time that does good is always a win in my book -- I'm a fan!

Live, local music, local cold beer- it's hard to go wrong…read more As much as I love Forecastle- it is a bit pricey so it is so nice to have an affordable and fun option to listen to some great live bands surrounded by interesting people. The parking lot of Apocalypse is the perfect venue to set up a stage for Poorcastle. We brought chairs and grabbed a beer and sat close to the stage. I enjoyed the variety of rap, punk and rock that we heard. Also, it is pet friendly so lots of cute dogs around. There wasn't much shade, but luckily the weather cooperated and the humidity wasn't bad.
