Hands down this is the BEST NY style deli in Danbury. From the rolls they use to the amount of food you get for the value this place can't be beat. There specialty sandwich menu is well thought and it's fun to try the different options. My personal favorite and ultimate recommendation is the White Russian on a wedge. This is the first time I have come here. The food is outstanding! I cannot believe the size and quality of the sandwiches. The choices are incredible as well. Authentic Italian style deli. Fresh mozzarella, pasta, dried salamis, Italian cookies...all the good stuff. The sandwiches are also awesome and they even offer gluten free wraps and lettuce wraps. I usually am skeptical of a lettuce "wrap" because they never stay together but that wasn't the case here (see photo). Definitely getting the lettuce wrap from now on. read more

Fantastic find in Danbury! I went to get a sandwich for my husband who would arriving super late from the airport.....Lou's had already closed but the owner saw my panicked look, let me in, and made a phenomenal chicken parm sandwich to go. While there I grabbed a chicken quesadilla and ate it on the drive back to the hotel... Holy smokes it was fantastic!! This is clearly a pride of ownership deli but it's more than a deli... Breakfast sandwiches are huge and flavorful, tried a chicken wedge and it was amazing, and the 2 for 20 dinner was great and so much food. Floors are filthy (in the morning); cutlets sitting out on the table (just sitting there unwrapped or covered); tosses the order pad and pen on the cutting board, etc. It smelled like cigarette smoke. Went in as I was really late for lunch and I needed a kick ass sandwich. Usually a club is dependable and has the flavor and volume I need to knock me down past dinner. I ordered and the sandwich was ready in less than 3 minutes. Should have been my tipoff. The guy didn't toast the bread (really, a Club Sandwich w/o toasted bread?). Mayo seemed to be MIA however there was a ton of turkey and exactly two strips of bacon. The sandwich sucked. I guess others have been more lucky with this place however I have to say it was lackluster at best. As I recall, this is the 3rd Italian deli to inhabit this space in the last 8 years. The owners of this business really need to step it up as there are other food choices on Millplain Road as well as in the rest of Danbury and surrounding parts. read more

Updated Review: still rated 5 stars but we have been coming to Lou's for just about 2 years now & we still visit least once a week. We have tried tons of different items there and have never been disappointed. Lou and his wife are super friendly. Our 2 year old daughter loves going in to the deli and eats their macaroni salad by the handful. My husband loves the stuffed long hot peppers- only complaint is they sell out QUICK! Gets busy at lunchtime, obviously, but service is still always quick. Their grinders/wedges are huge, and depending on how hungry I am, I can usually get 2-3 meals out of one. read more

As any true aficianado knows, good Italian Deli's are rare in Connecticut. That said, Lou's is up there with the best. This was my first visit and I went traditional and ordered the Italian Combo. It was big and quite good. The bread was even good which is typically the achilles heel for Connecticut based deli's. The only thing holding back a fifth star was the lukewarm service...not bad service...but a bit more enthusiasm would have improved my experience. Lou's is probably one of the things that I miss most about living in Danbury. I have since moved down to the South Jersey/Philly area and honestly I have yet to find a breakfast sandwich as good as the ones that Lou makes. Everything is always fresh, the portions are huge, and the whole staff is courteous. I have been here multiple times and either they changed their closing time or they close and hour/half early when it gets slow everyday, even though their closing time still says 6pm. I try to call and place an order to pick up another time and the lady working hung up on me mid conversation. First time I asked if they had bagels, and the older gentleman who I was speaking to said no, but "Bagelman next door does," and walked away from me. Then I had to wait a few minutes for him to come back to see if I wanted something else! Second time was foul...I ordered a sandwich on a roll. The lady taking my order did not write it down. So when my sandwich was ready, it was on a giant grinder. I politely said I wanted it on a roll. Her snippy response was "if you don't specify, they put it on a grinder (I did ask for a roll, but she screwed up!). Then she said "it's only a dollar more and I know you can eat it." So I was forced to buy it and accept her veiled insult that I was big enough in size to eat it! Oh, and she gave me a side of macaroni salad when I asked for cole slaw.
