I can't believe this is my first time at Lou's since I have lived in Pompano for almost 3 years. The restaurant is definitely old school, it's been around for over 30 years. After reading several reviews about Lou's famous subs I finally got over there to try one out for myself. The guy that created my sub was friendly, I ordered a small roast beef sub with all the fixings, he quickly assembled it, I was actually surprised by how quickly it was ready, I took it to go. Once I unwrapped my sub and started biting into it, I realized why it was assembled so quickly, it was a freaking mess, stuff was just falling out of it on all sides! There was no tucking in of the fixings, everything had just been thrown in. The bread tasted fresh and it was delicious, and the roast beef had a nice flavor however it was overcooked for my liking, I prefer by sub roast beef to be rare, there were some areas that were on the medium rare side but most of it was medium to medium well, and the fixings were also good for the most part, the sweet peppers were delicious, and the lettuce, tomatoes and onions where good, however I didn't care for the black canned olives. I love that they now have their own herb garden, I can definitely taste the difference and freshness, their homemade potato salad with the fresh herbs is unbelievably good, I wish they cooked their Roast Beef more on the rare side. We just moved to SoFlo and we're looking for a good sub shop. The Yelp photos of Lou's looked just like what we were looking for & we were wrong. This spot FAR FAR FAR exceeded our hopes. Bread was soft and fresh, meats sliced thin but plenty of it, cheese was great, vibe was awesome, and their brand of soda was actually fire. I cannot wait to make this a new regular spot! read more

This is a real sub shop! Great bread and deli meats. The roast beef is made in house and is gooood! Fresh chicken and tuna salad also. Not the best location, but it has been here for 40 years. The area may have gone down, but the subs are amazing! Ill be back! read more

Good spot for a quick freshly prepared sandwich! Enjoyed a 6 inch Italian on soft bread with flavorful meat. Lots of soda and chip options and felt like it was a more authentic sub experience compared to the pre cut meats of the sub giants around. The inside is cozy and it gets pretty busy around lunch time. I was tempted to try the steak and cheese which seems to be the goto from what the regulars around me ordered, but was still pleased with my Italian. But please believe me when I say my opinion is not biased based on that fact, because Lou's really is incredible and I INSIST if you have not been here, you at least try it! Stopped in after spending most of a day working to say hi to our brother, grabbed some lunch as well. I decided to go for the cheese steak and was pleasantly surprised in every way. The amount of steak was generous and cooked to juicy perfection, covered in melty cheese on a perfect bun. Possibly the most remarkable thing about this visit was the soup! My god the conch chowder was incredible, definitely didn't see that coming from a sub joint. I ordered a philly cheesesteak it cost me $13.80 and it had less than a quarter pound of meat on it very disappointed very disappointed in the amount of food that I paid for It. Got the whole 12" Super Italian and I ate it all. It was good. Lots of meat, thinly sliced, on a fresh roll. Classic and delicious. This is an old school sub shop. No frills, just order, pick-up, seat yourself and check out the decor. Recommended. read more

This place is in real psssh I've had better service at taco Bell I pull in and you have a few homeless people sitting there fighting each other then I get to the cash register where she tries to price gouging mean charging an extra dollar then with the men you said and then literally has the audacity to ask for a tip after leaving I drive all the way home with my dad define that my sandwich is wrong I got the wrong sandwich. My office just moved further north and I have been searching for a good sub shop. As you can tell by my other reviews, I know a good place when I find it. Lou's is it. Clearly, they are using the BEST bread in America (Cusano's) and the high quality toppings. I ordered the super italian and later found out that Jessica prepared it for me. It had the right balance of toppings, seasoning, everything. She was a pleasure to speak with after I called to advise of my experience (I used Uber eats). I am glad that this diamond of a place has been found. I will be a frequent customer. read more

On yesterday 3/24/20 me and a group of co workers decided to place an order for subs during our lunch hr to continue to support local businesses during the pandemic as we have been doing throughout the week. I placed our order around noon picked it up about 1:30pm. Person who took the order told me about 30 minutes for the order to be ready I said not to worry we are in no hurry. When I placed the order I explained that this would be a large order all separately he placed me on a short hold and returned to the phone. I had already took the time to write out each person order individually to ensure that everyone's order would be correct once received that did not happen at all. At the end of the phone conversation the person who took the order could not give me the price of each order separately. Instead said I'll call you back with your total. Sounds cool yeah that's just the beginning. He did indeed call me back with my total still not separated but ensured me it would be separated once I picked the order up. Again I did not worry until I picked up the order that was waiting at the counter for me. Out of the 14 orders at least 10 was not correct. After I paid with my credit card for all orders because again it was not separated as they told me it would be once I came in to pick up the orders because they could not figure it out over the phone. Wings and things did just yesterday and was able to repeat all orders back to me. At least they were ready!! I spent close to $150 dollars on subs and as I was attempting to double check the orders I was asked to move out the way while the cashier continued to cash out other customers. I politely asked where is the receipt with all sub prices separately so that I can collect payment from my coworkers. Which will now be owed to me once I get back to my job because I paid for the total order with my card. No reply no acknowledgement she didn't even look up at me a moment later she prints another receipt with the in-correct orders along with the prices separated. As I look in the box several subs are without labels again we ordered 14 subs I politely asked how am I suppose to know which sub is which she then says all subs are labeled annoyed as she continues to help other customers. I then leave the business and thank them on my out the door. I get back to my job and almost every sub was in correct. I had to put on gloves and pick through the subs to determine which was which because they were not labeled. Sometimes the support of the community is just not enough for some businesses. The cashier was unprofessional they were not prepared for large takeout orders. I will not spend another dime at lous and have encouraged my co-workers and family to do the same. Shame on you all!! I am going to write a review on every site I find to ensure that management receives it which I'm sure they are all family I hope they fix this so that this does not happen again to someone else. You all have lost a loyal customer who will not be returning. read more

I think this place is overrated for what it is. And its name makes you think the subs are HUGE! Is not the case at all. You get half the meat you get in Laspadas Hoagies and they charge the same $. In Laspadas Hoagies, you CAN'T finish your sub. You order a footlong and you literally can barely eat half. Here I felt I was at Subway where everything is measured. Good service but not enough food for your money. If I would've known, I would've gone to Laspadas Hoagies or Lester's Diner and eat a full meal for the same money. read more

Great place for a quick fresh sub! I heard about Lou's on one of our dive trips down from Jacksonville .. we filled our tanks right up the road .... Dive shop suggested Lou's .. LOVED it! Always made it by Lou's when in town... NOW that I moved to the Pompano Beach area - I keep coming back for more! We love the fresh subs and always have a good experience. Lines can sometimes be lengthy during peak times of the day, but we have learned not to go during lunch. I had the BEST chicken pesto sub yesterday. This is my fave sub shop in Pompano. Decor is a dated and dress is relaxed as you can see in the pics, but it's fun decor... lots of fish and super cool pictures taken throughout the years. They keep the place neat and clean... gets a little loud during busy times, but well worth it. read more

Let me start out by saying this was my first visit and I will likely amend this review after I have had a chance to go again. I stopped into Lou's on my way home based on the generally good reviews and it's convenience to my home. The front of the house was clean, but smelled a bit of cleaning solution...perhaps they had just mopped, not sure. I ordered at the counter and the guys there were very pleasant. I got a whole steak, cheese and onions sub which as prepared quickly. I took the sandwich home, and while it was a pretty good sandwich, I did find it to be a bit lacking in content and seasoning for the nearly $12 price tag. I've had just as good or better elsewhere for less. Granted, Lou's appears to be known for their traditional subs, not their cheese steaks which is why I will definitely go back again and check out their cold sub offerings. The do have a 15% off Yelp coupon, so that is one plus. read more

I will preface my review with that I enjoy blackened chicken and usually will order it if I see it's available whether or not it's a traditional Cajun place. So this place was not really far from where I am today I could have picked it up but feeling not in the mood to drive out on my lunch break I ordered from Uber. Chose the blackened chicken on a roll and asked for lettuce, pickles, and onions (wanted honey mustard but didn't have it with my order which was ok because the sandwich had plenty of flavor). The chicken was good and they even added melted Swiss on it for me. The roll held up to everything on it and was pretty fresh. Included in my lunch was a small cup of potato salad. I at first was just going to ignore it and toss it thinking "oh it's not homemade, I can skip it." But I didn't and I'm glad, it was really really good. Southern style potato salad with a tang of vinegar and chopped egg, pickle, and pimento. Needless to say, I will be sad when I'm back working in Coral Springs. Whatever you're in the mood for here, it will likely be good. I love subs and sandwiches. All the meat and veggies here were fresh. The area around Lou's looks like an industrial park and its right across from the railroad tracks. We went in on a Sunday afternoon after church and it was steady. People started loading in the door as soon as we started to order! I had a complicated order if ya' know what I mean So I felt a little bad for the guests that had just piled in the door but the employees were so nice, accommodating, and quick to get all of us taken care of in order but timely. For my first time trying Lou's, the Reuben was calling my name! I asked if they could possibly not heat the sandwich all together (because at some places the bread gets a bit soggy). The guy cutting the meat was so nice, he asked me a few specifics which made for an epic Reuben. He heated up the corned beef, sauerkraut and cheese separately, toasted the rye bread and then added the thousand island. That was the best Reuben I've had in a long time. I didn't know potato salad came with it so I ordered chips. The potato salad was not good. It was way too sweet with pickle relish and carrots I think. It was also a little thick but not creamy. They just need a basic potato salad made with mayo, mustard salt, pepper, egg, paprika, and a dash of cayenne for a big batch. It would compliment the big flavors of their sandwiches better. No one wanted it so I threw it out~ that's the only reason for the four stars! The decor is old but not really outdated! It shows a guy's whole fishing life time! This was my 3rd time at Lou's and I have to admit that my first 2 visits were relatively positive. I can't say that on this visit. I ordered my sandwich on my phone. When I showed up I instantly regretted it because the restaurant was full. If I hadn't already paid I would have turned around and left. There were several tables filled with people without masks and eating in this very small space. I got into a separate line for people who ordered through Uber, Postmates, etc. I tried to socially distance but people will just do what they want and came very close to me to get their sodas. Of course I wore my Kn-95 mask the whole time. I finally got my sandwich and quickly got out of there as fast as possible. When I got home I thought to myself, at least my cheesesteak sandwich will be as good as it was the last 2 times, it wasn't! For some reason they used garlic salt on/in my sandwich. I never asked for it and although I love garlic I've never wanted or expected it on my cheesesteak sandwich. I want to help restaurants, which according to the news are all suffering but not at the cost of my life! I think a small restaurant like this with limited space and no ventilation I could see should just stick to delivery and takeout. With thousands of people being infected and dying everyday there's just no justification for this situation. The addition of the garlic salt just pushed it over the edge for me. Had been eyeing this place for a while and finally made the trek with a co-worker. Very glad I did. Very small divey place that's hard to spot but still pretty clean. Thankfully we arrived at a time that wasn't busy as there wasn't a long line or shortage of tables and gave us the opportunity to scan the menu a bit. I ended up going for a chicken salad sandwich with bacon. I was tempted to order a Monster but I'm honestly glad I didn't, because my sandwich was already overflowing with chicken salad. The salad had a lot of mayo too, which I like, and was just overall really good. I have yet to try La Spada's chicken salad sandwich, and am a little eager to compare the two. Finished it off with some sort of... brownie/cookie hybrid. Cookie base, fudge brownie on top drizzled with caramel. The cookie part was a little hard but it actually worked really well texture-wise with the gooey brownie part. Still would've preferred a chewier cookie but it was a great (gluttonous) way to finish the meal. When it comes to cold cuts I'd still slightly lean toward La Spada's, but this place has way more variety when it comes to their menu with their hot subs, so it gets a 5 as well. read more

Ordered for delivery directly from the restaurant. Specific order of 2 HOT CORNED BEEF Subs Received 2 sandwiches with semi -frozen meat on crumbled squishy white bread.! And even though the order was placed with the restaurant, it was delivered by Doordash, complete with the extra fees of delivery and 'service.' Called Lou's, put through to the Manager. Informed that if I returned the food, he'd replace it. I ordered DELIVERY,and could not go there. I asked for a replacement. NO! I demanded a refund ($30 for something inedible) NO! Why no refund? Because Doordash delivered, but I paid Lou's, not Doordash. And then my call was disconnected. Called back. The Manager "left for the day. Would return in 2 days and call me." Of course not! Both times ive ordered the steak & onion sub, the only downside of this sub is that is too hot to eat when they give it to me LOL other than that, is betweem this place and Hoagie Bear down in homestead!!!
