I will always be grateful for them helping us find our new family friend! This shelter really does everything they can for all of their animals to keep them safe and healthy! They are incredibly hard working and committed to their animals in a loving and supportive way; whether it taking them to the vet at any time of the day or night to helping mother dogs birth their puppies, they are right there caring for them every step of the way! They go above and beyond to rescue animals and take in any stray/surrender they can! That's how they found Minnie. They do their best to find their animals homes that will take care of their needs as well as work with the new families in any needs they have. They really know each and every one of the animals they care for by their personality and interests. These staff members have a personal relationship with these animals instead of only knowing them by a number or "name". I honestly am very proud of all their hard work, their abilities to conquer through anything and admire their passionate hearts! 5 stars is not a high enough award that this rescue deserves as they clearly do 10 star and above work! I appreciate all the love they show both my pups (one from their rescue, and our older dog from another rescue) when we drop them off. They know their personalities and how to handle each of them. We used to have a family friend watch the dogs at home when we were out of town, so I was a bit nervous the first time we left them, but the staff made sure to let me know we could contact them to check on the dogs any time... and now my dogs are exited to go back and play when we are out of town. I had a very disappointing experience with Amherst Animal Hospital while trying to get my dog in…read morefor an emergency skunk bath. When I called, I was told that my dog could be seen as long as I sent over her vaccination records showing she was up to date on her vaccines. It took me about 40 minutes to contact my veterinarian, obtain the records, and have them sent over. After they were received, I got a voicemail stating that my dog could not be seen because she did not have the canine influenza vaccine. At no point during the original phone call was I told that the canine influenza vaccine was required. Had that been mentioned from the beginning, I could have saved a significant amount of time during an already stressful situation. When I went to the office to ask for clarification, Delaney's demeanor came across as dismissive and passive-aggressive. She repeatedly stated that my dog was "not fully vaccinated," even though my dog is current on all of her core vaccinations. The issue was not that my dog was behind on her routine vaccines--it was that the hospital also requires the canine influenza vaccine, a requirement that was never communicated to me during my initial call. What upset me the most was not the policy itself. Amherst Animal Hospital is absolutely entitled to require whatever vaccinations it believes are appropriate. My frustration was with the lack of communication and the complete unwillingness to acknowledge that the requirement should have been explained upfront. If Delaney had simply said, "I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that we also require the canine influenza vaccine," I honestly don't think the situation would have escalated. We are all human, and mistakes happen. A sincere apology and a little accountability would have gone a long way toward resolving the situation. Instead, I felt like my concerns were dismissed, and I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong. When I questioned why this wasn't explained initially, I was told, "I don't understand why you're yelling at me," even though I was simply trying to understand why I had spent nearly an hour gathering records for an appointment that was never actually possible under their policy. To the manager's credit, she came out and apologized, and I appreciated that. Unfortunately, by that point, the damage had already been done. The interaction left me feeling disrespected and unheard. This experience is especially disappointing because our family has trusted Amherst Animal Hospital with our pets for veterinary care. They have treated our other dog and our cat, and our in-laws have also been clients. After this experience, however, we all have decided to take our pets elsewhere. Policies are understandable. Poor communication and poor customer service are not. I hope this review encourages the hospital to better communicate its requirements upfront and reminds staff that a simple apology and a little empathy can make all the difference.

I chose to get "Sugar Plum" cremated for $145. which included: her ashes in a velvet bag, 2 name cards, a certificate, a memory book, flower seeds and the "Rainbow Bridge Poem". She was ready to be picked up the same day. Mike called me to pick her up and he was friendly. I highly recommend this place for people with fur babies.
