I'll be honest, we only had drinks at Phil's (1/1/24), but they were awesome! And we got to see…read morelots of food coming out of Chef Charles's kitchen, so we'll be back on our next visit for the full treatment! Zach, the guy waiting all the tables and running the bar, was gracious to a fault. We had a huge mango margarita that we split, then followed that with a blended raspberry margarita. Both were amazing, fresh, and delicious. Despite being so busy, Zach took a few minutes to share his love of tequila, and showed us their growing collection. It was a great way to finish our evening. We'd go back for the bar alone, but as I said, the food looked great, so we'll probably have dinner, as well.

We saw a roach on the wall and that should've had us running, but we were outside so we let that go. We waited so long and when we asked how much longer because we had to catch the ferry back, the cook began yelling loudly and slamming things. When we got the bill she charged us $10 for chips and salsa when menu said 5 dollars also it was like a side of salsa versus an order! The waitress was so rude and since we waited so long and took it to go they charged us 1 dollar/ box. LAST BUT NOT LEAST I ordered an empanada and I what appeared to be a quesadilla. When I told her this wasn't right she kept insisting it was intact an empanada. All in all one of the worst places, atmosphere and service I have ever seen or have been to.

I ordered the Coco Berry Cream ($12.37) which was slightly sweet and refreshing with berry and coconut flavors. I also got three tacos ($19.59) served with tomato, onion, jalapenos, and cheese. The tacos were flavorful and the ingredients tasted fresh, especially with their house salsa on the side. I also grabbed a bottle of water ($3.09). One thing to note is that 18% gratuity is automatically added to all checks, which is common on the island. Also the billl is slightly less if pay by cash. They also had some interesting specials posted like two pork belly tacos with rice and beans for $22, and margaritas like a Spicy Pomegranate Lunazul Margarita ($15) and Orange Cranberry Margarita ($13). Overall, the food was tasty, the atmosphere was fun, and the service was smooth.

The Rum Rib tacos were the talk of our group. Caribbean Jerk Chicken and Shrimp tacos were also great. We can had the Coco Colada for a drink. Go during Happy Hour to get buy 1 get 1 free. Also during happy hour the boat taxi was a bit cheaper. Water depth was about 5' deep and enjoyed floating most of the time because I was getting a little sea sick on the stools and lily pads. Our server Kara was very friendly and mad us love our entire experience. Food was the best we had in the island all week long. Must do experience, never done anything like it.

As someone who didn't exactly grow up in the water, that was easier said than done. I even had a floatie for assistance, but it didn't inspire much confidence. It was the longest two minutes of my life. To make matters even more exciting, the water was pretty choppy that day. To be clear, this is completely a "me" problem and not a reflection of the establishment at all. I just hope that one day there's an easier option for land-loving odd ducks like myself to enjoy the experience without convincing ourselves we're about to become part of a maritime rescue operation. Once we made it, though, it was absolutely worth it. We ordered a couple of margaritas that were fresh, strong, and delicious. I had the Spiced Tuna Taco and my wife ordered the Shrimp Taco. We absolutely inhaled them. I would've happily ordered several more rounds if I hadn't been mentally preparing for the swim back to the shuttle. The vibe was fun, energetic, and laid-back. Being from St. Louis, it was a happy coincidence that they were playing Nelly and Chingy all afternoon, which made me feel oddly at home. All in all, this was a stellar experience, and I would absolutely go back. I may just want to log a few more hours of swimming practice first.

Walk around Wharfside Village, and across from the pay parking lot is this little taco stand with outdoor seating that doesn't look like much at first. And then you're greeted by the very friendly and enthusiastic owner, who will help you pick out your meal.. that he then prepares for you. We love their fish tacos and taco salad. Very generous portions loaded with fresh veggies, and you pick your salsa-type topping (spicy guacamole for the win!). Last time we were there, we each had two fish tacos for a grand total of $22. Eating here is casual, and a nice treat from all the pricey eateries in town.

But, since we'd tried Surly's during its opening, we decided to give the new folks a try. Let's just say that surly has been replaced by friendly and we'll gladly stand in line for a bite from now on. Yes, we predict there will often be a line. The Cantina is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with no siesta. Their goal is great fresh food served simply and inexpensively. A basic Taco Pastor with re-fried beans is only $3 or $6 for the pulled pork version. Our tacos arrived topped with shredded red cabbage, diced tomatoes and lettuce. From the list of fresh sauces - we chose spicy avocado sauce on one taco, and fresh pico de gallo salsa with pineapple on the other. Next we split a mole chicken Taco Gringo, which is like a small quesadilla, for just $6. We were surprisingly sated by then. Zach and Ben were friendly and excited to finally be opening the place. Bob caught them a bit off-guard when he aimed his camera at them, but we wanted to share this place with everyone quickly. The place doesn't have a website yet, so just stop by Wharfside Village. The menu is plastered to the door. We appeared to have been their first customers tonight. By the time we left, there were people eating all around us and a line waiting to order. Next time, we plan to try the burrito - it looked excellent! How does it compare to Surly Cantina? They are two very different places. Wharfside Café' - Love City's Cantina - good cheap eats made from fresh ingredients, without the siesta wait and served with friendly smile. Yum."
