Greengos Caribbean Cantina was a great spot in Cruz Bay, great drinks, and a great atmosphere. We were able to watch softball from the veranda. Their tacos and burritos were delicious--great flavor mix of Latin and Caribbean. Their homemade hot sauce--definitely the best I've had in a while. I have been a loyal customer coming here probably as long as they've been around in St John. This is the first year I did not go. The reason you wonder? The answer is last year the service was bad and what's more it was becoming more and more difficult to get a table. Less employees and they were either not capable or not interested enough to help the customers properly. Although they never allowed reservations, when you went there, they would tell you that they would call you or text you when it's available. Last year they didn't allow that. It just was a pain in the neck. It gets to be a point when the restaurant, although they need to make money, they could also lose loyalty. On the upside, I started going to Sun Dog instead, which I now LOVE. What's more? I'm also now going to THE LIME IN for what I consider great unusual tacos. When you're ready to allow reservations, I would strongly consider coming again, but the fact the matter is what I loved is no longer what I used to love You possibly could bring me back because I'm here for six weeks every year, but as of now, until you change, all I can say is Adios amigo read more

We went there for early dinner. I had read the reviews (that aren't that good) but decided to go with it anyways. Bad decision. There was literally a few people there. The waitress was pleasant and very attentive (we were her lone table). We ordered drinks and chips and an app. We wanted to watch the NCAA basketball selection On ESPN. Which they had on. All is good. And then some other patron walked in and wanted to watch some golf match. So I walked up and said I was watching the NCAA basketball selection basketball games on ESPN and I was there before this other party arrived and wanted something else. That's fine but there are 8 large TVs but all I want is one of them. Bartender told me he couldn't, but the other party was just there for a drink and he would switch it back when they leave.? Sorry, I was their first and why would someone who comes in for one drink and leave and gets to decide what's on. Complete BS. So, I decided to tab out and leave too and find another place to watch the NCAA. I was planning to have dinner but they lost that tab. Their drinks are weak and over priced and while you can't really screw up chips and salsa, they seem to find out a way. This is in a GREAT location and if they had decent drinks and food, they should be packed and killing it. Instead, it is empty for a reason. The drinks are poor and food is poor and very overpriced. The atmosphere insure is super cool, I was a big fan of the art. We had some definitely delicious mixed cocktails, in ordered the taquitos as my entire and they were the best I've ever eaten! Beautiful facility, run by people that don't care about customers (and therefore profits) They close early, refuse to seat people literally 90 minutes before they close 2 nights in a row...they act like it's a huge pain to seat you... and then could care less about customer service. I have eaten here multiple times and have never been disappointed. Excellent food and excellent service. The bartender (wish I had his name) went out of his way to make sure we were happy with our drinks. He probably saw 2 adults and 4 kids and thought we needed it. (he wasn't wrong lol) We ate here twice in July. I have a 12 year old autistic son and our server was extremely patient with him and all his questions. This is a must every trip. read more

After a day at honeymoon beach we decided to stop by for a snack and drinks. The margarita was great and only $5 during happy hour. We tried a variety of chips and dips and loved them all, especially the shark face salsa that had quite a kick but great flavor. I really enjoyed my lunch here! I came for lunch during happy hour with a party of 8 looking for some delicious but affordable food. This did not disappoint! We did not have a reservation but we were seated within 10 minutes. They had a variety of good Mexican food options so everyone in the party had plenty to choose from and all were happy with their meals. We started with the pork nachos which were delicious and there was plenty to share. For drinks the house margarita was only $5 during happy hour and it was great! I had the special of the day which were the steak and queso tacos, I really enjoyed this! Other people in my party got the burrito, enchiladas and burrito bowl. Meals ranged from $16-25 which I thought was very reasonable and all meals were tasty. I would highly recommend coming here for casual dinning that can accommodate larger parties. No silver ware due to busy night (simply order more silverware) 5 tables were empty still staff was not taking anyone in as kitchen was probably short staffed and backed up. This restaurant has such a unique design and a great casual Mexican restaurant. It is located upstairs behind an outdoor bar. There is an outdoor patio area. One faces towards the beach (there was direct sunlight here so we didn't sit here) and one facing the shops. Food: I ordered tacos which came with a choice of one meat. I chose pork tacos and it had such a nice crunchy shell. These tacos were so heavily packed that I was only able to eat 2 of the 3 and took boxes one to take home. I would rate this a 9/10. My fiancé got a shrimp burrito with the sauce "smothered." We weren't really sure what this meant but our waiter recommended the burrito styled this way. Basically it's like a wet burrito and that sauce they use is phenomenal. This burrito was a 10 out of 10. Drinks: I got a house margarita which was good. The house margaritas is what I order when I'm looking for a choice that is well known to me. I was told by our waiter that it was happy hour until 5pm but came to find out during the time of the bill that happy hour is only Monday through Friday. We came in a Saturday, but the manager Terry still accommodated the happy hour price. My fiancé got a double pain killer which was 10/10. Definitely recommend this drink! It has a dark rum, pineapple juice, Orange juice, coconut cream, and nutmeg topping. Service: The service was great since we didn't have such great customer service since coming to St.Thomas. Our waitress couldn't even muster up a smile, and there were ten of us at two tables. The place was about 25% full. Drinks were so slow. The food was good, but not even close to hot. Great chips and salsa! I love it when the chips have a bit of seasoning on them! We also got guac which was fresh and chunky. The drinks are definitely strong here. Great shrimp and fish tacos. I believe our servers name was Nequ, she was very sweet and entertaining. Made us laugh a bunch! Perfect for a long day out in the sun. We came in at 5pm on a Tuesday and got seated immediately. We were also a party of 10 so I was surprised with how quick they got us in although they did have to split our party up just an fyi we could not sit together. We found Greengos as we were cruising around St John for a place to grab some late lunch. My husband and I enjoyed lunch at their St Thomas and knew this place would be perfect for the family after a day at the beach. We found parking right out front. The restaurant is on the second floor. This restaurant is much bigger than the St Thomas location. But still had the chill vibe. We ordered the happy hour $5 margaritas. YUM! We had the shredded beef nachos and burritos. The family definitely enjoyed our meal here. Afterwards we strolled around the small plaza for souvenirs and trinkets. My friends and I were looking for a place that had vegan food and we found Greengos. Each of us got something different and we all enjoyed our dishes. We ordered chips and salsa. The Shark Face Salsa mixed with the red salsa was really good! It wasn't as hot as I expected, very tasty. My tofu veggie burrito was made perfectly. I could taste each of the veggies and they blended so well together with the tofu. Our server was fun and knowledgeable. She kept the water coming and made sure we had what we needed. This place is a casual place with seating outside and inside. We sat outside with a cool breeze and watched the people. My husband's review says it all - "Yum!" Greengos is an easy 10-15 minute walk from the ferry terminal in St. John. We arrived 10 minutes before they opened, but it was worth the wait. They have a great outdoor balcony and tons of seating inside. I had the Cantina Bowl with Chicken, and my husband had the Chicken Quesadilla which he said was possibly the best quesadilla he's ever had. Note they do charge extra for guacamole and sour cream with the quesadilla - we assumed that when we ordered them but it would've been nice to have the extra cost posted in the menu. They have an extensive cocktail menu which we couldn't pass up; we had a frozen peach Bandito which was refreshing but not as spicy as I would've liked it to be. Greengos has another location on St. Thomas in Charlotte Amalie; we walked past it on another night but I don't think they're open late night. read more

What wonderful staff, service and ambiance! I felt that the food was a bargain for St. John so absolutely fine but nothing to write home about... not every meal needs to be spectacular when you're on vacation, but the pleasantness of the place made it FEEL like vacation and not a cuisine competition. She was rude in the beginning when we first sat down. She was rude while ordering. She was rude during our meal. One of the meals came out entirely wrong and she couldn't have cared less. She was rude when we were finished eating. She started to clear our table while we were still eating. It was expensive and we should have had better service. Was kind of weird going for Mexican food in the Caribbean, but we did. The reviews were so good, and it looked like a great value. Son got taquitos for lunch - he wasn't very hungry. He loved them. He had only had frozen prepared taquitos before that. I tried them and thought they were ok. Hubby got a chicken burrito and was very happy. It was big, as big as you'd expect anywhere, and was quite good. Daughter got a tofu entree that she really enjoyed. I had a bite. Didn't taste like tofu and was quite nice. A lot of tofu was used, like a half pound and it was cut into small cubes to catch the spices. She was happy - this was an unusual looking dish, but did the job for her. I got the mahi tacos. I thought the overall taco was well done. The fish specifically was seasoned and cooked well. Probably would have preferred if they had cut the fish into pieces smaller rather than giving me one chunk on top. This was a good less expensive place to choose. I'm glad we went there. read more

Came to the table with sweat running down her face and faked Happy to be there after she was called out by the Hostess for help at our table...she was pissed being called out by the Hostess to address our table...we heard her barking at the Hostess. Had to track her down for the check as she disappeared. She brought 3 different Bills...$138, $136, $60.00...had to track her down again to dispute the different bills. She took her time looking at the checks and realized she'd made a mistake...we got out with our $60 check and NO TIP. I have NEVER left $0 for a TIP, but this place was so worthy of it. Fast seating. Fast service. Fast food delivery. Nachos were bomb and large enough for two to share. Three of of actually split it and felt satisfied! We added beef to make it a meal. They were nice and loaded with side of guacamole and salsa. I got a pineapple tequila margarita. It was spicier than I'm used to, but delicious. It must be their homemade sweet and sour, which was a fun spin. They infuse all of their tequilas in house if you order a flavored one and it's nice that they are not just a mix. We stopped at Greengos on our way out to explore Trunks Bay. We had no problem parking in the back at Mongoose Junction and explored the many cool shops after we had lunch. The drink menu here had some awesome homemade infused tequila drinks. I had the Bandito and my husband had a Caribe lager. We were happy with our refreshing choices and mine was deliciously sweet and spicy (tequila was infused with Thai chiles). I loved it and thought it brought out the flavors of our yummy Poblano Chile Cheese Dip appetizer nice!! We also had the Mexican street corn appetizer which was delicious. For entrees, my husband got a Cantina Bowl with Shrimp which was loaded with cilantro rice, guacamole, beans, corn, cheese, and onions. The shrimp were grilled perfectly and we thought the dish was a 5/5!! I had the Pork Enchiladas which were OK. The enchiladas were good but the enchilada sauce was a bit lacking 3.5/5 for that dish. The vibe at this place was super chill and we had EXCELLENT service!!!
