I'll be honest, we only had drinks at Phil's (1/1/24), but they were awesome! And we got to see lots of food coming out of Chef Charles's kitchen, so we'll be back on our next visit for the full treatment! Zach, the guy waiting all the tables and running the bar, was gracious to a fault. We had a huge mango margarita that we split, then followed that with a blended raspberry margarita. Both were amazing, fresh, and delicious. Despite being so busy, Zach took a few minutes to share his love of tequila, and showed us their growing collection. It was a great way to finish our evening. We'd go back for the bar alone, but as I said, the food looked great, so we'll probably have dinner, as well. read more

Can I give 0 stars? We came upon this spot and wanted a quick bite before we went back to St. Thomas. We sat down and she took drink orders. We saw a roach on the wall and that should've had us running, but we were outside so we let that go. We waited so long and when we asked how much longer because we had to catch the ferry back, the cook began yelling loudly and slamming things. When we got the bill she charged us $10 for chips and salsa when menu said 5 dollars also it was like a side of salsa versus an order! The waitress was so rude and since we waited so long and took it to go they charged us 1 dollar/ box. LAST BUT NOT LEAST I ordered an empanada and I what appeared to be a quesadilla. When I told her this wasn't right she kept insisting it was intact an empanada. All in all one of the worst places, atmosphere and service I have ever seen or have been to. read more

I have wanted to try this place over the years but we never stopped in. The place is smaller than I thought, only a handful of tables. We ordered the conch fritters, fajitas, ground beef tacos, and chicken quesadillas. Food was good. Not great but better than we anticipated. Conch fritters were the highlight. The service was very good given how short handed they were. It was only a cook and a server. She did a great job given the circumstances. At the end of the day, we were satisfied and it was a nice change, but it may not a regular spot in the STJ rotation every year. read more

Yes I understand there is only one person who was working when we got there, but at least acknowledging we were there and saying "hello I'll be with you in a moment" goes a long way. Let me start off by saying: DON'T GO HERE. I'm not sure how it has as many five star reviews as it does. As soon as we arrived the vibe was totally off when our waiter came up. She immediately came off as rude and even leaned against the table waiting for us to tell her what we wanted without giving us a chance to look at the menus. The whole thing was awkward and weird. After that, I ended up getting steak tacos and my sister got vegetarian quesadillas, both which we realized didn't come with sour cream, which if you ask me, is a necessity and should come with it. Instead, we received a depressing amount of black beans, weird tomato sauce thing??, cilantro rice, and literally WHITE lettuce that looks extremely unsettling. It looked bleached. Like no way was the entire lettuce they happened to have white. I would not be surprised if it was literally rubber. Then, we order the sour cream which is $2. Sure reasonable but still overpriced for some sour cream in a little plastic cup. I start eating my tacos which were very, extremely not great. So I added some sour cream to drastically hide the flavor. However, it was then that I realized the sour cream tasted like cheddar jack cheese or something. Forgetting that sour cream has NO CHEESE IN IT. I brushed it off momentarily until a few seconds later I realized this sour cream wasn't only bad, but it had clearly been bad for a long time. One sniff could've sent you to the ER. In fact, I'm surprised I'm not there right now, but there's still time left in the day! I'm still just shocked that the sour cream had been bad that long and they just didn't? notice???? On top of all of that, the only waiter who was serving happened to sit RIGHT behind us at a little table and wasn't even doing anything. Just sitting there staring at us. Which once again was UNSETTLING ASF. She also kept asking us random questions about us like where we're from and what grade my sister and I were in as if she was part of our table. She also kept asking how we liked our food. It made me feel uncomfortable. Very. Uncomfortable. Anyways, moral of the story: Whatever you do, don't listen to the other reviews on this page and don't go. I sadly didn't take pictures of the food since it would've felt awkward with our waiter staring us down, so I apologize for that, but trust me, do. not. go. You're welcome. We stopped by this place after passing it on the way to Honeymoon Beach in the morning and stopped by in the afternoon time to check it out. We were the only customers there at the time so service was quick and top notch. Their frozen margs are very tasty and pretty strong! I can't remember the name of the dish I had but it was sooo good and flavorful. It was basically like a taco salad served in an upside down crispy tortilla bowl. There was so much meat and cheese in the dish along with the other ingredients. I got the carnitas and it was was seasoned perfectly, packed with tons of flavor. Disappointed. My girlfriend and I got two orders of chicken fajitas and were fairly dissatisfied with how they turned out. To start off, the lettuce felt as if were composed of rubber. The fajitas had maybe 12 strips of chicken and like half of a pepper and half an onion, total, for supposedly two orders. Needless to say, both of us were hungry afterwards. On top of that, tap water was not offered and of course the bottled water is far from free. We've been coming here for years and the food has always been wonderful! Yes, the prices are steep but that's not unusual for St. John. We've paid $11.00 for a sandwich from a deli (no chips), so it's par for the course. The conch fritters are great and the enchiladas are delicious. Portions are large so you'll be leaving with enough for dinner another night. They do put a lot of cheese on the food but I find most places don't add enough cheese. Relax and enjoy the drinks and learn how to be on "island time". I don't mind waiting and I know that where ever we go on a small island, there's always a chance of waiting. Take in the whole atmosphere, think about where you are and reeeelaaaaxxx!!! Have one of Phil's strong drinks and go with it. Margarita Phil's is one of our favorites on the island. This is my favorite place on the island. Neil the manager is always really great, friendly & courteous. He not only is knowledgeable about the restaurant & food served here, he is also very knowledgeable about the island. We came here on Christmas day because it was one of the only restaurants open in Cruz Bay. There was one waitress working - that should have been the first red flag. We ordered the chicken nachos and the 'cheeseburger in paradise' tacos. I also ordered a margarita. The margarita had barely, if any, tequila in it. The chicken nachos were lackluster and the chips tasted stale. It was literally cheese, some beans, and chicken. Bleh. The tacos were okay. We had to wait foooorever for our meal and the check. I understand it being a holiday but if you're going to be open, at least be properly staffed. I wouldn't recommend coming here, the food isn't authentic nor is it good. I have been to Margarita Phil's only a few times over the past 10 or so years. Usually it was for drinks and chips and salsa. Nothing terribly noteworthy here. I mean, if you're going to be in the Virgin Islands, you probably should opt for the local fare at a place like Miss Lucy's or something like that. I am a Mexican food junkie, so I was DYING for Mexican while we were away and we had one night with nothing wedding-related to do, so we opted to go in town for a little Mexican. They have gigantic margaritas --- which I would not particularly recommend - Think hot "island" weather, ice cubes, drink mix. All this can mean is a watery margarita. And it's huge. You're stuck. The fish tacos aren't a bargain. They're good, but not a bargain. I opted for this volcanic looking dish with grouper in it. It was definitely tasty, but ... we're in the islands here, and I'm thinking that you can probably find some fish for a lot less - just a hunch. Chips and salsa were good. Prices were an insult. Tex-Mex entrees, influenced heavily by the catch of the day. Expect to pay the Tourist Tax, as the average burrito goes for $14-15, and a plate of three ahi tuna tacos costs a whopping $23. Unfortunately, the only memorable plate were the tri-color chips, and only because 'Murrica. Average eats paired with fresh fishbowl margs put Phil's in the middle of the pack - 2.5 with a tropicalia round up. Patio seating is a plus, even if the view leaves much to be desired. read more

Plenty of other options right around, haven't tried them all but after our experience at Margarita Phil's can assume anything would be better. Prices are through the roof but expected on this island. The chicken enchiladas were so terrible and bland, both me and my girlfriend come from the restaurant industry in California and man I was unimpressed. Also serving kidney beans and white rice at a Mexican restaurant, clearly we were expecting Hispanic rice and traditional beans to pair. We asked to make sure no sour cream came on the dish, we were told no, and it came with it on top, in which the server just made us wipe it off with a napkin. Server was rude, Unknowledgeable, and clearly didn't come in to make her tips today. This isn't a representation of what island life or this island is and can be. Food was okay, were out of a lot of options due to 'end of season'. Worst part of the experience was the chickens that they allow to roam around the deck while you're eating. Me and my family went here on our last full day of our trip, hoping to have some good food. I hadn't eaten breakfast and was ready to eat just about anything. Not this though. We were greeted by one server and were sat at a table but it took a while for her to even mention drinks. When she did there wasn't much to offer. Although Margarita is in the title i expected more than just Margaritas to drink, unfortunately for me and my underage sister the only drink they could offer was water or non-alcoholic ginger ale. The server herself was rude and just stood in silence at the end of our table waiting for us to order even though we had JUST sat down and were only given four menus for the five of us eating. The food is extremely overpriced for what it is (essentially really old, stale, or expired) meals. Although the portions are pretty big the quality of the food doesn't make up for the price. The quality is actually horrible. Another issue I had was the waitress was sitting in a chair watching us eat, it was really weird and made me uncomfortable. I felt I couldn't eat my food in peace. After staring at me for a few moments she asked "is your quesadilla good".........it wasn't. Who the hell puts carrots in a veggie quesadilla????? And by far my greatest concern out of this disaster of an experience, was the literally rotten, curtled, and expired sour cream I got on the side. If it weren't for my sister giving me eyes to warn that the sour cream was bad I would've kept eating it without notice. It tasted like a mix of soap and cheese. I'm honestly scared we'll get sick. My sister ordered steak tacos and I'm praying the steak isn't bad too. It makes you wonder what else they let expire and continue serving to their customers. Overall this was the WORST experience I've had in my life. The mixture of disappointment, sadness, and anger that this is the last meal I got on my trip is so frustrating. Yelp needs to get a no star option. Seriously and truly this place is an all time scam and will take your money for the most mediocre excuse for food ever!! The specials board advertised Tuna Tacos but no price. I ordered and got three tortilla shells , small typical size with each having two of the thinnest smallest pieces of tuna they could have sliced. All together ( and i am a restaurant owner so i know portion size ) the amount of tuna was about 3 oz ..in other words you could have easily eaten the total of all three tacos worth of tuna in 2 bites The bill for just that .......................$15? sounds a little high right? $20 ? expensive right? for tacos!!!!!! $25? get out of here No folks the guy that owns this place charged us $30 !!!!!!!!! the most pathetic tacos ever. And the quality of all the rest of food was so bad. Gucamole that was at least a day old....yuck slimy This place is a joke stay away !!!! It's a total scam!! read more

Took an hour to get a plate of mediocre nachos, and another fifteen minutes brought us gray, stringy beef fajitas and a bowl of greasy cheese that was supposedly crab enchiladas.
