After our tea service from across the street, we were offered a coupon to visit Livejoy's Attic. Lots of knickknacks and tea ware inside. This place reminded me of an Estate sale. In one room, we saw bags of chocolate chip tea so my husband got that for me to try, along with an ornament that I found pretty. Lots of mismatched dishes, saucers and cups for sale, so you too can have a tea party at home. My family loves Lovejoy's. Perfect on a warm sunny day or even better on one of our foggy days in the city. While I wish reservations didn't book up so early, if you get there right at opening time, you can usually get a spot in the adorable parklet. My mom and I came here after visiting the tea room across the street. They have a wide assortment of tea accessories - perfect if you want to have your own tea party. They also sell many of the same items that you have during the tea service, such as their lemon curd and cream, in addition to various desserts. When you think of an attic, you think of one that's on top of a house, dark..with unwanted, unloved items. Though, that isn't always true...another mans trash, is another mans treasure. Lovejoy's Attic is a small boutique of new/used tea related knick-knacks. Located on the corner of Church St & Clipper, it is also right across the street from Lovejoy's Tea Room. When I'm around the area, I love to check this place out. In front of the store, there are two 3-tier carts that have used tea cups, saucers, and plates (about $2-5 each). What a bargain deal!! Inside the store, I'm not sure if they're used items, but they look pretty new to me. In the back, there's a room that sells the tea leaves, 3-tier trays, and tea pots. The tea leaves are sold in a small amount or in a brown bag. I recently purchased the China Rose Petal tea because I enjoyed my experience at the tea room. The leaves have a nice floral smell to it and it was about $11 for 4.32 oz (122 grams). The store itself is small, and very cramped; I don't suggest going in if you have a stroller or a large bag. I think these tea sets are perfect for gifts, such as birthdays or engagements! Their return policy is store credit only, and you must have the receipt. If you're on a budget, make sure you ask about prices, because I didn't realize their strainer would be $16 (assumed it'd be like $5-10..). Definitely a great place to check out just for the funsies if you're in the area or if you're just into tea/tea sets! :) read more

Well , we did love this shop . And we have recently scored a few nice items . My only complaint is that , we had bought a cabinet a few years back , from the original owners , it was a good value and in fantastic condition. So we went looking for a similar piece . We found one & it was a bit over priced , and full of merchandise. We went w the purchase anyway , not realizing the condition it was in . $495 bucks . Picked it up a few days later & it was absolutely filthy . I was kind of shocked , that they did not even think to clean it up , dust and stains and the back of it falling apart . The previous owners were so wonderful, they would of never sold it at that price and the condition it was in . The new owner is supposedly good friends & they tell me , Lovejoy's will be franchised ," say what " How do u franchise a mom and pop quality place ? I think the new people do not have it going on . This was not a fair transaction. And we also enjoyed a tea less, after this experience. Integrity matters . If this was strictly second hand , I would be better about funky & dusty . But the cabinets are made locally & not at all antiques. I say , not a good business model . Still restoring a new cabinet that we thought was ready to go . Selling anything dirty is just plain lazy & indifferent to the customer . How easy to give it a once over , or call me & explain , the condition does not justify the price . I stumbled upon this gem after getting a hair cut right next door. I've always loved antique stores & I really enjoyed the diversity in their products ranging from modern to vintage. The set up really did look as if I was wondering in someone's attic - nonchalant, but not messy! The women there was welcoming & told me that the business had been there for nine years. She was helpful with any questions I had. Last Christmas, I bought my mom a "tea for two" gift certificate for Crown and Crumpet. This year, I decided to get another gift certificate but wanted to try another tea house. Lovejoy's was on the list and so I tried calling Lovejoy's Tea Room to order a gift certificate. I never got through to anyone. I am assuming that this is because they were completely booked and not taking any other reservations. After a few tries, the thought crossed my mind that I might be able to order the gift certificate from Lovejoy's Attic. I called and a delightful woman answered immediately and told me that I had called the right place and that she could help me with whatever I needed. The order process was quick, the woman who helped me was extremely sweet and helpful and she got the gift certificate in the mail that day. I went with the "high tea for two" ($34) but the woman also pointed out that their gift certificates can be used at the tea house or the attic for anything my mom wanted. When the gift certificate, menu and other information arrived, I threw it all in a cute bag with some tissue paper and a gift I knew my mom was going to love was ready to be placed under the tree. My mom did love the present and I am looking forward to a mother/daughter tea in the near future. I am also looking forward to ducking into Lovejoy's Attic and spending some time perusing their goods in person. read more

Their tea selection alone warrants 5 stars but added to that a quaint and adorable boutique with teacups, saucers, and teapots for even the most refined connoisseur, not to mention the hats, scarves, and handkerchiefs. I love fancy-pants tea, with the little tea pot and the cozy and the cups and the three tier cookie ladder thing .... but not so much the bill. well, this is the place to go if you're looking to recreate the experience at home, on a budget. Think of it as an investment. A lot of the items at Lovejoy's Attic are antiques or homemade, so their stock varies every time you're there, but everything is pretty consistently in good condition. And the style is what you would expect from a little of lady named Estelle or something. She'd have all the right spoons, polished, five or eight different kinds of tea, real sugar cubes and she would still call it a facsimile machine or a cheque. She'd want you to have that tea pot with the matching cozy, because she'd be happy knowing you were happy and enjoying the teapot ... And since you're picking out a teapot anyway, go check out the closet in back; they carry a lot of different teas. I've never bought any, but I assume it's the same as what they serve at Lovejoy's. And since you're picking out some tea, you may as well buy an apron and maybe a bag of those broken china bits to make a mosaic or a little coaster for your new teapot. I'm a self-professed whimpy coffee drinker, but I love my teas. They have a huge variety of them, in 2 package sizes - $6.50 or the $9 version. I bought a package of the blood orange. They have tiny tins of the tea for you to open and sniff and that orange aroma was intoxicating. There are tea cups, teapots, strainers, honey, sugar tongs and tiered trays that you fold down to put your crumpets and scones on to serve your Alice in Wonderland guests. My friend bought one that was a snowman and she was so happy to find out it was 1/2 off (about $10 out the door) to boot. No signs to indicate it was on sale. There are used towels and table linen. At $5 for someone's used towel, I'd rather buy new ones elsewhere without the stains. Feels like you "sort of" walked into an antique store. In the back bookcase, there are Alice in Wonderland decorated teapots and cups. Another adjoining room has more linen and stuff. It's like a semi-antique store. I spotted some cute Japanese-theme dishes with Mt. Fuji decorated on it and a Chinese dragon/gold decorated teapot which you can probably pick-up in Chinatown. They were selling it for $25. It's a good place to kill time if you're waiting for a table across the street at Lovejoy's Tea Room. The salesgirl at the desk wasn't very friendly & looked bored. Back home, I was anxious to try the blood orange tea. As I poured it out of the bag, I noticed there were no perceptible tea leaves, just dried orange pieces. It tasted tart and citrusy after brewing. The next time, I added some tea leaves and it tasted much better. It still smelled great, if you don't drink it, guess you can use it as potpourri. read more

Came here yesterday with the family to see if they had these cute little hooks they had last time we were here. I very much enjoy stopping off at Lovejoy's Attic on my way home after work on my scooter. My first vehicle I owned while growing up in San Francisco was a Vespa Primavera 125. I always wore vintage 3 button coats and vintage gloves when I rode my scooter. I've been an avid collector of vintage gloves since high school. Because of this, I ADORE Lovejoy's attic. Not only do they have a wonderful, affordable collection of vintage tea-things, but they also have vintage GLOVES! I'm typically the girl in the motorcycle helmet digging through the pile and trying on gloves they have in the window. Quarters ARE tight SO, best to get into the shop prior to the throngs arriving. If you DO have children ladies and gents, simply take time to have a chat with them just prior to going in and have your kids practice the following: 1) Look but don't touch. 2) Move SLOWLY through the store. Good opportunity to practice good manners like, "May I please?", "excuse me", "thank you". 3) Use inside voices. 4) Remind them that they'll each receive a memorable little something-treat if they're on their best behavior. 5) Always be respectful of others and repeat #2. Wow, this place is smaller than quaint. Shopping here consisted of back peddling through narrow aisles around a large table in the middle of the store. I think I hit a four-year old (shopping with her Grandma) twice in her head with my butt. While turning to look at something, my purse draped over my shoulder provided near-miss delicate-china-teapot-on-floor mishaps. If you finally make it the back of the store, there is a small closet filled with loose teas you can buy. I opened one to sniff the contents, put the lid back on, and fumbled it outta my hands while it rolled on the floor and down the hallway under some cupboard to be lost forever. I have fond childhood memories of this place way back in the 90's at their old location. I think it was across the street from Eric's from what I can remember; where the nail salon is currently at. The displays then were always so nice to see. Even now it's enticing to observe the displays. You immediately have to go inside to see what's there. There's a lot of good stuff if you're a really big fan of tea. I'm happy something like this exists in the neighborhood. It's a tea lover's dream come to life! I just wish it had more room.
