The food is the highlight of course. They have the option for a vegetarian set or a regular meat one. With the vegetarian set you have veggie saussage rolls, all sanwdwiches (minus one salmon, and depending if you eat egg or not there is the egg salad sandwich). The scones and spreads were great and lots of dessert options. You do receieve a full pot of tea so its nice to share different flavours with your friends. Underwhelming English Tea Experience--Not Worth the High Price Tag Review: As three ladies who love and have experienced traditional English tea, we were highly anticipating our afternoon reservation here. One of the ladies accompanying me is actually a veteran journalist who has covered entertainment and dining for top-tier periodicals including Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone. Given our background, we have a deep appreciation for the culinary arts and hospitality, which makes it even more regrettable that this experience fell completely flat across the board. To book, you must pay $191 upfront for three people, which includes a non-refundable meal cost and a mandatory upfront gratuity. Forcing a tip before service is even rendered is a poor policy, especially when the staff fails to deliver. During our visit, the room wasn't even full (only three other tables were occupied), yet the service was completely absent. The staff never checked in on us. When water was requested, they brought one single glass for three people. When I mistakenly misspoken and asked for more "butter" for the scones, the server rudely corrected and scolded me rather than gracefully realizing I meant the clotted cream. Aside from the initial hot pork sausage roll--which was genuinely delicious--the food on the three-tiered tower was a massive disappointment. The scones were dry and tasted day-old. The savory sandwiches on the meat menu were entirely bland and lacked traditional tea staples like smoked salmon, chicken salad, or roast beef. The bacon and cheddar sandwich had zero flavor with paper-thin bacon, and the marinated artichoke sandwich was incredibly sour because I believe they used marinated vinaigrette, artichoke hearts. Only the egg salad was palatable. Between the cold, inattentive service and the subpar food quality, this did not deliver the lovely, relaxed adventure we expected. We will not be returning and cannot recommend it to fellow tea enthusiasts. read more

Wonderful experience! We did the holiday tea special. There are two seatings available so make sure to make reservations ahead of time. It was a lovely afternoon and they even had paper crowns for us to wear. Started off with some wine and a cute holiday quiz. We each got to choose from a selection of seasonal and classic teas. Hubby reserved for my bday, since like many girls, I love me some cute food and dish ware. Very nice opening presentation, complete with a nicely displayed tiara. Ambiance is a bit more simplistic than some other tea houses in the city, with the bulk of the decor focused on the dish ware that you use. Perhaps a bit more comfortable for those not into frilly stuff, but not a place I'd necessarily take my daughter, mom or mother-in-law for the experience. The entrance is on Lincoln and doors are left open on warmer days, so you constantly hear loud cars and the occasional firetruck or police car zooming by. Sausage and veggie rolled pastries to start were really good, buttery and juicy, though the accompanying sauce could have been better--something creamy or herby would have made these fantastic. The tea sandwiches were just ok, pretty standard, cut into simple rectangles, and no varieties that I wanted seconds of. The currant scone was fantastic--retained its heat, just lightly sweet, soft interior, good amount of buttery and slight flakiness. The pastries and cakes were just ok--taste wise I wouldn't order any of those items individually, and they weren't nicely decorated; though I understand it was a fall theme of pumpkin, cinnamon, etc., the brown made the presentation very one note. Be aware that there is no changing tea choices, unlike some other tea houses in the city. The china rose was good, a very rose-forward black tea. Jasmine was a bit too light for my preference and making it stronger (steeping for a bit longer) made it too bitter. There are multiple times more black tea than green tea options, so I'd encourage sticking to black. Free or metered street parking, that you might need to loop around a few times to find. Overall, I love me some afternoon tea anytime anywhere. This spot for me was more appropriate for a random lunch with a friend, than a special occasion. Each one sounded wonderful. Everyone got individual tea pots with their chosen tea. We got our tea and then the sausage and vegetarian rolls were brought to the table. After we finished the rolls, the plate tier was brought out. Finger sandwiches, salad, scones with lemon curd, jam and clotted cream, fruit and dessert were all on the plates. Sip Tea Bar has an incredible location right across the street from Golden Gate Bridge. It's small, cozy, and feels very welcoming. There was one person handling all guests and seating and she was very friendly and attentive. We got the full afternoon tea service - 2 pots of tea with a great selection, two scones (ginger, currant) with clotted cream and preserves, 4 different finger sandwiches and a variety of small pastries. My partner and I loved the sandwiches, currant scone, and this oatmeal based pastry with fruit the most. Everything was good though and nothing was a 'miss'. I had the China Rose Petal tea and my partner had the mango black. The tea was perfect and didn't get bitter even towards the end of the pot. I finished mine! Absolutely adore this place! I had a first date there, and they were so nice and attentive! They even stayed open slightly after closing time as we were engrossed in conversation. Memories of scones from a girl's trip to SIP Tea Room in 2023 have had me drooling for two years, so I was quick to book another High Tea reservation when a travel opportunity arose. This time I enjoyed the experience with my husband. He was delighted by the hearty starter of sausage rolls (fighting me briefly over the last drop of delectable plum sauce that accompanied them). We then proceeded to work our way up a decadent three layer stand, complete with varied sandwiches, the aforementioned delicous scones and a selection of sweets ... including a uniquely delectable banana cake. The owner and her staff exemplify professionalism, while making you feel like old friends. SIP is a cozy spot for a long catch up with friends, a spouse or a good book. I've been fortunate to have High Tea at the Ritz in Paris, Harrods in London and numerous other spots both international and across the US. SIP Tea Room is my favorite. Luxury spots can be fun, but they are usually a one-off experience. This is the type of place I would visit monthly or more if I lived nearby. SIP recently celebrated it's 8th birthday. My sister made a reservation for an all ladies tea to celebrate my daughters' birthday. Upon arriving, the hostess took our tea selections. There are plenty of teas to choose from. My sister ordered the guest favorite tea of Chinese rose petal which we all tried and liked. The reservation was for a full traditional afternoon tea. We started with sausage and vegetable rolls with HP brown sauce. They tasted good, but I really couldn't tell the difference between the two. Each time food was brought out descriptions were provided by our server. The 3-tier serving stand had on its bottom layer a variety of tea sandwiches as in pesto turkey, egg salad, cucumber, fig and goat cheese, strawberry and Nutella, and hummus and tomatoes. I found the fig and goat cheese and hummus and tomatoes unique. The tomatoes were sweet and fresh. The middle tier had cranberry currant scones with the tea room's clotted cream, strawberry preserves, and lemon curd. At the very top were the desserts of blueberry parfait, petite cakes, tea cookies, and fresh fruit. All other patrons in the tea room were enjoying their teas and conversations. It was indeed a feast as the 2 guests of honor declared it was "a lot of food" and they could not finish. They brought home tea sandwiches to share with their father and grandfather who had not been included in the tea. It's not often that we get to go out and enjoy a nice tea. I have been going to SIP since it's opening. I went for my birthday and was so sad to learn that the customer could no longer pick their sandwiches, only the type of tea one can have. The sandwiches barely had anything in them. And while the taste of the food was okay, (about a 7/10) there was nothing fabulous. For your scones, you're given very little clotted cream/lemon curd and preserves that a second portion was asked for. When I looked at the chalkboard it just seemed to point out what you couldn't have (no milk unless you ask for it, etc.) Why put that out there? Unfortunately, my review is a big Meh.... read more

This place used to be the Secret Garden way before the pandemic. They had really good sandwiches and pastries. Sip Tea took over and their food is just as good. They require full payment when making reservations and non-refundable which is an uncommon rule. You can't change the number of people attending either so make sure everyone shows up or find your replacement. They also have a 2 hour limit per party. Come here with a heavy appetite if you're ordering the traditional tea service. Not bad for $49/person. We couldn't finish all our food. The sandwiches were delicious and the minced meat pastries and scones were filling. Service was outstanding. We were a party of 3 and had a choice of our own of tea. There were only 3 tables occupied and I wondered why I only got the 11:00 slot. Then we were told that we have to leave at 1 due to a big party coming up which will fill the whole restaurant. Do not go here if you are Celiac or gluten free or gluten intolerant. You will pay more for less. Our Celiac guest did not receive the full tea experience. She was only given alternatives for two out of the four courses (sandwiches and scone. No dessert or sausage rolls alternative). When we brought it up with the host, we were told that she could 'eat the salad.' The salad was touching the wheat bread. She was also told, when we learned that there wasn't an alternative for the sausage rolls, that she 'could partake if she chose.' This total misunderstanding of how sick gluten would make her was a slap in the face and to be honest made us worried about whether the gluten-free tea sandwiches were prepared safely. It was packed when we tried to find parking inside the park and eventually found an open spot on a white painted curb with a sign saying it's for the tour bus (but the car was still there and with no tickets when we came back 2 hrs later!) Inside the tea room, the hostess checked our vaccination cards and led us to the garden patio. Our server came to check on us regularly which I appreciated. The food was disappointing. If I ask myself, would I come back?, I wouldn't because of the food. The sausage rolls had a bread to sausage ratio of 4:1. The sandwiches were bland. The scones were OK.
