There are definitely much better coffee shops in San Diego. I'm born and raised here, and I've been to a lot of amazing local spots -- this one just doesn't make the cut. I was running late and happened to be near Mission Valley, so I figured I'd give it a try. Unfortunately, I basically paid $8 for sweet milk. The cup wasn't even full, and I could barely taste any espresso at all. The staff was friendly, and the coffee shop itself was clean and cute. Definitely disappointed and feel like I wasted my money. I came into OX Coffee on a Sunday afternoon. It is tucked in the corner between Home Goods and Mission Valley Breakfast Company. They were not busy. I learned from the barista that they have been in this location for a couple of years and is part of the same company that owes the breakfast place next door. They roast their own coffee beans and source them to other restaurants. I ordered a 12 oz dirty chai latte with oak milk for $7.00. Folks here are super sweet and understanding of an individuals coffee order! I like two raw sugars in my coffees and they were good about having it mixed with the shots while they were still hot to get the dissolving action! They have a basic menu but look around before you order because you'll find seasonal menus located in the 8x10 frames along the counter and you'll miss out like we did. There was a spring menu and a summer menu that just started today for a limited time from 5/30-6/12. We ordered from the basic menu in the tv screen. Got the iced strawberry matcha and flavored ice cinnamon latte. Wow! First sip and you could taste the quality. The ceremonial matcha gave this grassy herbal note but too much sweetener was added for my liking. The espresso blend on the latte had a nice bitter Smokey nutty blend. Stopped by to charge my car at this strip mall in mission valley, saw the coffee shop and had to try it. Was pleasantly surprised to taste the flat white I ordered. Parking is pretty crazy even though there is a huge lot. So many businesses in this center make it tough to get a spot, even with the 15 minute spaces. Staff was friendly. Tried the iced lavender latte for $7.25. It was really sweet, recommend half sweetness. It was also pretty milky. I didn't ask, but there may not be a difference in espresso shots between large and small drinks, meaning large may just have extra milk which might be why it was too milky for my tastes. Price is also a little higher than the other coffee shop I frequent which has 4 shots in a 24 oz drink for $6.50. read more

Well, another great coffee spot to visit when I'm down in Mission Valley. In fact, this one bumped my prior first-place (Spill the Beans) into the number two spot. The decor is minimalistic, but where they really shine is in the service and of course, in their coffee. I love that they have their roaster running during business hours. The barista/cashier/roaster single-handedly was running the whole show, but still took the time to engage with my husband and me. He was so kind. Our lattes were perfection. What a gem of a coffee shop! Had to run to Navy Fed and needed a pick-me-up this morning. Saw there was a coffee shop on the corner so ran over to grab a quick bite and drink. When you walk in, it's very clam and inviting. I love the white walls and greenery plants. The staff was super nice and helpful. I got the iced latte with caramel sauce.. YUM! My husband and I were just driving nearby. I suddenly feel like coffee so we randomly picked one coffee shop in this area and the navigation brought us here. The shop was really well designed, I love the decoration with nice lights and mirrors on the wall. It's next to the popular brunch place Mission Valley Breakfast Company if you couldn't find it. The staff here was very friendly, she was very patient helped me to choose one unique but diary free low sugar and decaf coffee. I tried their non diary orange cinnamon roll foam, it was pretty yummy, and there's a real big piece orange peel inside the cup. What is OX you may ask?! It's in reference to the animal and this place is a super chill coffee shop in mission valley to hang out or do some studying. The WiFi is pretty fast as I was on a Zoom call and had crystal clear quality! Plenty of outlets located throughout the shop and even at the bar seating. Staff is friendly and also met Chris, the general manager who was taking his time to explain the process of how they roast their coffee. I've been wanting to try this place for so long, and I'm sad it took me as long as it did! I was running errands in the area today, and decided to stop by for a drink and some food. I got a hot 12oz Pumpkin Spice Latte with oat milk ($5.75-no extra charge for alt milks!), and the Morning Muffin ($6), which consisted of an egg & Gruyère cheese on an English muffin, which is basically my favorite kind of breakfast sandwich! I'm happy to report that both items were amazing, and super fairly priced! On the way out, I saw a sign indicating that they're on DoorDash, which I was really happy to see. But when I looked for them on the app afterwards, I realized that they're not on DashPass, which makes the delivery and service fees much higher as a result. I hope they're able to get on DashPass (even if it means slight markups on their food & drinks, since the pricing appears the same on there as of now as it does in store), so that I can support their business more often! read more

I found this cute little shop on maps when I was browsing for coffee shops nearby. The decor inside is very simple and they have a few tables for sitting down at. Since it was my first time here, I asked the staff what to get and got recommended strawberry cream latte (6.75). I got the morning sandwich with egg and cheese (6) as well. I got this drink iced and it was so good and smooth! I haven't had many strawberry based coffee drinks and I think one of the few times I had one, it had a really artificial taste. This one as I mentioned was smooth. It was I checked the hours and it looks like they're open start at 5:30 on some days, which is great since I don't know of too many places open that early. Ox Coffee Roasters is an extension of the Rise and Shine Hospitality Group here in San Diego. I had a cortado and a croissant. The croissant was wonderful. I just wished they would have warmed it up better. Its texture was great, and it tasted very good, but it was cold all the way through. It reminded me more of a denser Italian croissant, rather than a French flaky croissant, not that there's anything wrong with that. The cortado had a good beginning but a rough ending. It was rich in flavor as it hit the palate, but the bitterness towards the end was hard to miss. I would definitely like to see them improve it. Service was friendly enough. I was not a fan of the furniture. It does not feel welcoming, nor is it very comfortable. read more
