This is the cutest little seafood restaurant! Our waitress was kind and helpful. The entire staff was super friendly and welcoming. It was a Sunday afternoon and we wanted to treat my grandma with lunch after church. The food was all hot and delicious! Kiddos loved their hush puppies especially! Husband had the Captain's platter and could barely finish it! I had the fried shrimp and they were very good, Grandma had the Creek Shrimp (like popcorn) and she had a huge portion! She took half home with her for later. The kiddos had kids meals and they were portioned nicely. I will say to pay attention to your receipt, they added the gratuity because we were a party of six. I really, really wanted to enjoy this place. I love to "eat local," but the food here was "meh." Our service was great and that's where all the stars come from. I mean, I would give our hostess and waitress 5 stars. But the food was just...not good. We started with the gator tail app and it was good, if a bit salty. My husband had the country fried steak. It bordered on inedible. The gravy looked so good, but it tasted off; sort of sour or something. And the meat was pounded so thin, it was almost a scallopine! The hush puppies that came with it were good. I had coconut shrimp. I usually like coconut shrimp, but these were overly sweet. None of the food that came to the table was hot enough, barely warmer than room temp. The beverages are great, though. You get a giant glass and never need a refill! LOL! It wasn't great, but I might try it again to see if I just showed up on a bad day, but there are so many other seafood places within driving distance that it seems a waste to try again. read more

I'm usually hesitant before heading to a restaurant with 3 stars on yelp ,but seeing how there weren't many reviews and the locals suggested this as a great spot for seafood. I gave it a shot. Tried out the captains platter which was loaded with with fried shrimp, clams, scallops, fish, and a deviled crab and two sides. Had whole catfish, baked potato, grits, and a cup of catfish stew. For the record, coffee, soup, and baked potatoes should be served steaming hot! They were not. They made a fresh pot of coffee which was fine. When they brought soup, they said be careful it's very hot! It was sort of warm. Baked potato had trouble melting butter as it too was sort of warm. Overall, not terrible but not great either. I now remember my last visit a week ago, guests beside us had to get new plates prepared as theirs were served cold. This experience was 50/50. Dropped in on a Saturday evening. I had the alligator for starter, enjoyed it. Tasted like it had been marinated in something yummy. Main course was the Low Country Boil, which was very good. Plenty of crab legs, shrimp and andouille. I am not sure why the corn didn't arrive until 10-15 minutes after the rest of it, though. My wife, who is not a big fish person, ordered a grilled chicken breast. It tasted as if it had been cooked on portion of the grill that had not been properly cleaned after preparing fish. Our waitress was a very nice lady. However, the food was less nice. If I were stranded alone on a desert island with no food and this place was the only one around I would MAYBE attempt to eat here. But only the applesauce because it's the only thing that didn't make us feel sick. The salmon was drier than a popcorn fart and I think we may have missed the memo that flavor is an add on (we obviously forgot to order some). So my father in law's birthday was upon us, and we decided to do a birthday dinner here. My wife called at 11:00AM and reserved a table for 8 people at 6:00PM and was assured that we would have no problems being seated at that time. Several hours prior to us arriving, she brings in the birthday cake so that it would be ready before we all arrived, and while doing so, made sure to confirm the reservation was correct. Our party of 6 adults and two children arrived at 5:50PM only to be informed that our table was not ready. The hostess attempted offer us two booths for our seating arrangements, to which we declined since that is not the arrangement my wife made earlier that day. Furthermore it is in poor taste to expect a large party, with reservations, to be seated separately for a special dinner. During our wait in the uncomfortably cramped lobby, a group of at least 14 Civil War re-enactors with no reservation were seated ahead of us followed by 3 separate parties of 2-4 people each, all of which were also walk-ins. Meanwhile a very large party of patrons was attempting to settle their bill at the front counter spearheaded by one very upset gentleman who was disputing part of his bill. He was claiming that he was being charged for food that nobody in his party even ordered. All the while, the hostess at the counter appeared to be arguing with him over the charges. At 6:35PM, we were finally seated at a table for 6 with a separate 2 person table for the children. While this was still not the appropriate arrangement, we accepted it after having to wait for so long to be seated. Our drink orders were taken by the young lady who seated us, and we all began reading the menu. At 7:00, a waitress finally comes by to take our order. We asked for drink refills and ordered the sampler as an appetizer and our entrees. At 7:20, the appetizer arrives in a basket with no plates. After asking for plates, we reminded the waitress about the refills. The wings that came in the appetizer were a touch salty, but pretty good nonetheless. The rest of the platter was not bad, but nothing to write home about. At 7:38, the first two entrees make it to the table. One of those was prepared incorrectly and had to be sent back. A few minutes later, the next two plates came out. While placing them on the table, the waitress spilled the sauce from one of the dishes onto my wife's back. Then after another couple of minutes, more of the food arrived. Once again the waitress spilled some of the food, this time onto my mother-in-law's chair. We were left to clean up both messes ourselves. Finally at 7:45, the final few plates arrived and it was at this time we had to ask that the appetizer platter be removed after it had been empty and sitting on the table for close to 20 minutes. The food was mediocre at best. The flounder was a touch mushy and unseasoned. The hushpuppies were cold. Steak for their version of surf and turf was ordered medium and came out well done. The popcorn shrimp plate we ordered for the kids was entirely too much food. Seriously this plate could feed two overweight men, and it was on the kids' menu. This is not the first time I have experienced poor service and subpar food for the price at this establishment, but I promise it will be the last time. If you're in the area and want good seafood, just make the drive to Beaufort or Hilton Head. read more

A bout 14 of my family members went to the Lowcountry seafood for Sunday lunch. As we were seated we were handed a menu. Everyone ordered off the menu. When we went to pay for our food the cashier doubled the price of what was on the menu. When asked what was going on we were told they dident have a Sunday menu. Then I asked why were we handed a menu? If a place doesn't have a Sunday menu and you order out of the menu they hand you thinking that is the price we were going to pay I told the manager then they need to make a Sunday menu if you are serving people. I got the combination meal for 9.95 and was charged 16.95. That to me is misleading and stealing from customers. Just a heads up, unless you want to spend your hard earned money on that food which wasent very good I'd advise anyone not to go to the Lowcountry seafood in Varnville SC. Owned by Andy Cook. They are falsely making people think they are ordering out of a menu with menu prices. Not the case. You will be charged Double. If we had been told that the prices were not the prices in the menu would of been great but we were not told that.... I will never go back there or my family either. They were not very nice about it either. It's just a shame for a business to do there customers that way. The service was disappointing and so was the food. It's just very misleading the way they did our family and all the other customers that come there on a Sunday .my cousin put the gratuity on the table and it was taken out of her check. Her and her husband paid $56 dollars for just the two oif them and she had water but got charged the same price for a tea or soda. It's just ridiculous on the way service is at this place.
