Traveling through and needed a bit to eat. Few places in the area and being Sunday, most are closed or close early. This is a very unassuming place. Simple seating areas. 4 stars. Next, the staff. They were exceptionally nice. Friendly, polite, courteous and helpful. Absolutely 5 stars. The food. We ordered the fried pickle appetizer, a shrimp dinner and the special, a 5oz fried grouper sandwich. The pickles came out fresh, hot, nicely cooked in a perfect coating. Came with ranch dressing. Would totally order them again. 5 stars as they were perfect. The shrimp dinner was also very good. Nice portion of again... perfectly coated, perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The side of coleslaw was fine. No rating as it was neutral. The fries, the side we chose, were ok. The usual frozen crinkle cut fries. They were hot and cooked well. But frozen makes them a 3 star. I personally was not a fan of the hush puppies as I'm typically not anyway. My partner said they were delicious. Going by her enjoyment, 3.5 stars. The grouper sandwich special. Presentation was good. Good bun, fresh leaf lettuce and fresh cut tomato. The fish was again, nicely coated. Unfortunately, it came out dry. A little tough to chew. My partner tried it and said the same thing. Fortunately, the great server offered to have a new one made for me. I really didn't want it so she replaced it with their fried shrimp! No headache. No nasty looks or comments. Just a server that wanted to make sure we had a good dining experience. She did. The bill arrived and the food prices were good. Taxes are a bit high but no fault of the place. We were disappointed to see a service charge of 3% for CC fee. Typical nowadays but still never happy to see it. Overall this is a place that I would absolutely recommend and if ever passing through here again, we will stop and eat here. 4.75 stars. read more

I saw a sign from the road saying they had collards today and I whipped into the parking lot! Lunch was fantastic! Blackened Red Fish with all the fixings! Fish was seasoned well and cooked tender. Collards were outstanding; just the right flavor of pork kissing the tender greens! Hush puppies were sweet and made for a little dessert moment at the end of eating! I have been there maybe 6 times to sit down and eat. The food is always great. There is usually a crowd. The service is good. I sometimes order ahead since I travel between Summerville and Port Royal often and pick up food to bring home. The restaurant itself is not fancy, but I like it the way it is, it reminds me of a simpler time. read more

I see they changed their published hours now but the night I tried to dine they had closing at 9. Arrived at 7:45 and refused seating even though there hours showed closing at 9p as well as the sign in front off the restaurant. Had made the 20+ mile drive based on recommendations of friends. It's obvious with the coming and going that this is a well loved local establishment with some in their jeans and some in their Sunday finest. Nothing fancy here-scuffed Formica topped tables, fishnet adorned walls, metal chairs, but very clean and full of seemingly happy customers. The fried shrimp and flounder basket hit the spot today! It comes with a cup of creamy coleslaw and a side of your choice - baked potato, grits, green beans or crinkle fries. My baked potato was perfectly cooked and everything was piping hot. Doesn't look like much on the side of the road but wow it is good! We met family for lunch and when we arrived they had all of the tables set up and ready for us. We had great service! We ordered the calamari to start with, it wasn't as good as I had hoped. But the entree made up for it! We ordered the Seafood Platter for Two. It had fried fish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, hushpuppies, cole slaw for two and each person could pick a side. We were fine with that, however, after being seated and placing our order, 1 cheeseburger and 1 two meat seafood basket, it took nearly 40 minutes to get our food. Catfish was just decent, baked potato was so cold the fake butter didn't even melt on it. Fried okra had excellent flavor, onion rings were hot, gator bites weren't fresh and were super small pieces. Half the pieces were just fried batter with no actual meat. Place is pricey as well considering the subpar quality of food. Walked away paying $100 for $20 worth of food from the freezer section. Would've been same quality if not better. Service was just okay. Table was dirty. The inside has the same lighting of a hospital room prepped for surgery. I have driven past Ace's from Savannah to Charleston often and wondered about the place. Wow have I missed out! I ordered the lunch portion of the catfish strips (didn't want to deal with bones on the whole catfish version today), green beans, slaw, and tea. The fish was fresh, perfectly cooked, hot, and nice light batter. Green beans had a tad of spice which I love and the slaw was refreshing. Served with cold tartar and cocktail sauce. My wife had the combo platter of scallops and shrimp which were equally great. I'm not a hush puppy fan but I ate those up too. Drove down from Charleston on a whim, and so glad I did. Open Wed-Sun for dinner (right now) but call for times to be sure. Best seafood meal I've had in years! Fried right, with just the right amount of season and portion size to fill you up and take a bit home to remember them by. Service from Charisma was exceptional and seating (yes, they still have in-house dining with great COVID protections in place) was comfortable and cozy. They have a drive thru pick up if you want to be extra careful, but servers were masked and gloved, and hand sanitizer was readily available upon entry. To our surprise, We were greeted outside in the parking lot by our Wonderful Waitress Laurie. Cheryl and Ed also greeted us at the door and showed us to our seats. The restaurant is bright, clean, airy, with lots of windows. It oozes Southern Charm! Almost reminds me of an old cozy lakefront home or a house boat. Upon arrival, we found plenty of parking for our motorcycles right off the highway so there was no trouble getting there or getting home. It took about 2-5 minutes from when we walked in to when Laurie took our drink orders. The menu offered many local seafood favorites which I could not wait to taste. After spending 10 minutes combing over the exciting menu, I selected the fresh Creek local shrimp plate. I never heard of Creek shrimp and at all you can eat for $9.99, why not??!! My fried local Creek shrimp were small, sweet, juicy, succulent, crispy, well seasoned and perfectly fried to a golden crisp. The Best Shrimp, I've ever eaten!! The hush Puppies were fluffy, sweet, golden, crispy with a tangy onion taste the best in SC. These two powerhouses pack a palette punch! Overall, our experience here was wonderful from beginning to end. Laurie,Ed,and Cheryl are very hands on and involved with customer interactions, wait staff, and their kitchen staff.
