However, at the end of the day, SMEFCU doesn't steal your hard-earned money like the large banks by demanding fees for anything and everything. Plus, their customer service has a quaint and genuine hometown quality to it which you won't get very often from large banks who redirect most of their customer service calls to foreign countries so they can exploit desperately poor people by paying them pennies on the dollar while simultaneously depriving Americans of employment opportunities just because they don't want to have to pay a livable wage to anyone. As such, I switched to Luso-American since their two locations are convenient for me. Staff there are very personable, friendly and helpful. Their rates and fees are much lower than my prior credit union. So far I really like them and feel that they are a very customer-centric financial institution.

They are rarely open, and requested call backs take many days. They locked me out of my online account for almost a week with no oncall support or any means to access the account. Lisa "the president" called me to rudely attack me and say that I spoke with 3 staff already when I only asked for a call back from the branch manager regarding their decision due to an error on my companies end. All this to say, there are plenty of better credit unions in the area, so just beware.
