Our server was there when we needed her, with more coffee or just to check on us. Friendly, but did her job. What keeps me from returning often is that the feel of the place is pretty average. So glad we finally tried this little diner after passing it multiple times! It looked busy for a Sunday around 11 am, but we were seated immediately. The menu is extensive and has something for everyone at great prices. The inside of the restaurant is your typical diner feel, which we love. Our waitress was incredible! She kept our drinks topped off and checked in on us constantly. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, which came with home fries. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the home fries came out super crispy even though I didn't ask for them to be well done like I usually do (I forgot this time). I also got a couple of scrambled eggs on the side, which were also great. We also got the monster double cheeseburger, which was HUGE. We definitely weren't expecting the third bun (like a Big Mac) but it was great. The French fries were so delicious and crispy. I have a soft spot for Lower Allen Diner. I used to visit frequently when living in a nearby apartment. I don't get there as often anymore, but they still are amazingly fast and the food's pretty good! Like many diners, they serve breakfast 24 hours. The breakfast options are solid. It's one of the few diners in the areas to feature country fried steak (which my husband enjoys). Tonight I got garlic hot wings and he got the country fried steak. We were seated and had our drinks in no more than two minutes. The servers are awesome at checking in for refills too, which I really appreciate! The dinner was about half full when we arrived. Our food came out about 6 minutes after we ordered! We were both satisfied with our meals and very happy with the service. I haven't been here in years, but decided to stop in for dinner. I was going to get grilled chicken, but once I saw it was $16.95 for a basic diner chicken meal, I opted for breakfast. The eggs and bacon were fine, but the potatoes weren't great. You can tell they had probably been sitting for a really long time and tasted old, and the insides were cold. I also can't do bread, so she said they could give me extra potatoes instead. The amount of potatoes seemed small to me, even for a normal amount with breakfast. Staff were friendly, which is nice. I used to really enjoy this place, but probably won't be back anytime soon, as other local diners seem to have more reasonable prices, better portions, and fresher food read more

Diner food is always a comfort for me and I adore them. My husband, father and I went for breakfast because he found out they have blueberry pancakes which is a favorite of all of ours. We placed an order for about 5 meals because we enjoy leftovers and I'll happily snack on cold pancakes or whatnot throughout the day. Service was meh and our waitress was kind when she sat us. We said to drop off whatever when it was done but that was ignored. Everything arrived at the same time, no biggie, I get it. Half of what we ordered was cold and our requests for our hash browns to be well, well, WELL done was ignored. As she dropped our plates she laughed and said "Well, I asked for them well done but sorry! Haha!" They were all hardly cooked without even the slightest hint of brown. Like, you realize something was already not correct and instead of making sure it was right you laugh it off? Fine, again, whatever. I was starving. I'm not going to make a big deal out of it. There were also things she forgot and we had to flag down other ladies to get what we ordered. The one meal that always needs to be eaten immediately is Eggs Benedict, which was my plate. The sauce was the the most disgusting thing I have ever had. She didn't check on us until she dropped the bill (other's delivered the missing items and our requests for our waitress were ignored). Seeing a full plate with a single small bite taken from it, she didn't even ask how things were. I apologized and told her that not only did they arrive cold with the sauce congealed, they were really inedible. She said she'd talk to her manager. Their solution was to kindly take off "a few dollars" for the issues. Not the price if the untouched the meal but $4. We still tipped well because I know she's just trying to make a living but that will be our last visit. Had she at least attempted to make sure our orders were how we asked, been present AT ALL, or handled my meal appropriately, we would brush this off as a hiccup and try again. The blueberry pancakes were good enough and I'd have given a higher rating for them if it wasn't for the fact of the apathetic, careless manager (that seemed annoyed THEY messed up and acted like we were trying to pull a fast one on him) and the fact half our food didn't get eaten because our waitress had no concern for making sure we were happy customers. My daughter had a salad with mostly brown lettuce. The waitress told the cook about the salad and he said he would take care of the problem, the sandwich was not addressed. First time trying lower allen diner and was happy to say that the breakfast we got was tasty. The food was a good portion size. It wasnt overly greasy, eggs were cooked nicely and havent had homefries this good from a restaurant in a long time. The menu comes in a little panfilt and isnt overly large they also offer a qr menu scan to view there menu. The waitress who served us was really nice and was happy to help. All the staff we interacted with were extremely nice and showed great hospitality. I believe our waitress was amanda and she did a great job thank you. I would totally recommend this place. This is the one diner in Harrisburg that knows how to make delicious potatoes. Every time I come I get the same dish - over easy eggs, bacon and potatoes with no toast. The eggs are usually perfect, the bacon is ok (sometimes crunchy and sometimes floppy, but it's thick enough to be yummy anyway), and the potatoes are the only ones worth paying for in the capital area. The service has always been good, and the prices are reasonable. The coffee is palatable enough to drink straight - not too weak but not bitter either. The four stars are because there aren't a lot of options for people with dietary restrictions (gluten free, dairy free, etc.), and because the food can be a little inconsistent in the way it's cooked. My friend and I decided to try the Lower Allen Diner today for lunch because the reviews were good. We had, by far, one of the worst meals we ever had! There was absolutely, positively NO chicken in the chicken croquettes, the mashed potatoes were dry and looked like they were yesterday's leftovers, the filling was a slab of mush, and the gravy looked like yellow Play Dough. The waitress offered to replace our meal with something else but our appetites were completely gone after attempting to eat that garbage. The manager was totally unapologetic or concerned about our dissatisfaction with food and was only concerned that we pay him for exactly what we managed to consume. He treated us like crooks when in fact he was the crook for trying to pass off that slop as food! Shame on him! Our Sundays begin here. My wife & I have spent over a year trying every breakfast spot within a 20 mile radius in Camp Hill & decided this was to be our home spot from here on out. I.m not super familiar on this diners history prior to 2013 but I can deffo say that the staff, the food & the service has been exemplary for the past two years of our going there. The food. Breakfast is an all day event but before 11am finds you the best value. Always consistantly above average. The wait staff is very attentive & even during the busiest of mornings your food will arrive ridiculously quick. Coffee is unceasingly topped off & cream / sugar etc are always within an arms reach. Despite the vast morning selection, I.m perpetually drawn to the #10. Taste is subjective but I find the French Toast to be fantastic. Ask for a wee bit of extra cinnamon. Your tummy will thank you later. This place is a machine btw. Sit at Gloria's bar & just observe. There is never any slack. As soon as the wait staff puts down a tray the next order is already up & ready to be served. If by chance they do catch up a moment, they are always, ALWAYS, filling bottles of condiments or preparing the silverware. Listen, we are regulars here & know most people by name so our review might appear biased, but we are regulars here for a reason. We find ourselves constantly comparing our out of town excursions to this home of ours. I hadn't been here in a couple of years. It was crowded (noon-ish on a Sunday), but I was seated right away. Service was friendly, quick, and they checked on me several times during my meal. I ordered a Belgian waffle with fresh fruit and a side of extra crispy bacon. I asked for an additional fruit for my waffles (normally it's choose if of three), so I got blueberries and bananas. I Picked up a near flu like cold from eating here JUST TODAY and found a small course black hair in my Spanikopita. It was a bad diner experience. Im GREEK! my Grandpa owned a diner in MANHATTEN!! this was just disgraceful. Spano wasnt even hot... tasted like they warmed it up in a microwave.. I ate some, then found the HUMAN FIBER on a piece of feta. My friend got poached eggs that were overdone and the spinach that was to be sautéed, was boiled and plopped on the top of the food horribly. My son wanted a root beer float, which they didn't have, but the waitress said there was no way he was getting one. I asked why she couldn't put ice cream in a glass and bring him a root beer, and she said there's no way to charge for that. Um, duh. She never checked on us, never asked flow wed like dessert, and some guy slopped a mop on the floor RIGHT NEXT TO OUR TABLE. There was no one else in the restaurant...he HAD to clean a 6x6 area of floor that was right by us? Dead flies on the windowsill. Ick. For $6.00 it's got decent flavor and it's a big portion. Panini, fries, coleslaw, kosher dill spear, and a chicken orzo soup. That's a great value. I came again for breakfast and was not at all impressed. It's sub par compared to cracker barrel. It is edible, and the prices are reasonable, but don't drive out of your way for it. read more

Among all the microbreweries, gastropubs, plant-based protein bistros, and "concepts" that keep opening on this side of the river, it's great to have the more traditional diners still around. This is a great place to go and still a good value. Prices went up slightly since COVID and some portions have shrunk (e.g. Used to be able to take Country Fried Steak portion home for a second meal, now it's only good for one - I'd actually pay more to keep the same size as before). But they've actually expanded the menu slightly with some new items (like Crab Benedicts). Service is also still fairly prompt even when busier, compared to some places that don't have the people to stay open all week anymore or have to close at sundown. I prefer to eat my food not "experience" it at $25 a plate, so places like this are my go-tos for the real thing. read more
