1/2 Crawfish Etoufee 1/2 Shrimp Po Boy

I hhaven't been heree in a while, and my coworker and I were excited to hang for the new year. We called first, told it wasn't busy and to come in. A fifteen minute drive changes things quickly, lol. There was a bit of a wait (20-30 min) and confusion, but they worked it out. The space is tiny so be prepared to sit wherever a seat is available. They were definitely slammed with orders (in-house & takeout) so the food took a bit over 45min to receive. So..... did it arrive hot & accurate? No. But, was it still tasty? Mostly. They have definitely changed the bread and spread for the PoBoys. The shrimp were still juicy and amazing. Crawfish etoufee is one of my favorite dishes ever, so I alway get its when I have the chance. Here, its tastes pretty good, its just sad ordering delivery from here yields a larger serving by far. The panda cotta at the end is always a delicious finish, but we left hungry (my friend took another full size etoufee to go). I'll still snag delivery, or pop in for lunch when it's less crowded for ambiance though.

Popped in on an early Saturday evening around 6 pm and was able to be seated immediately for two. Was coming off of a day at the park and had this spot bookmarked. Not sure if it's new but I am on this street often and had never noticed it before. Ordered the shrimp poboy, half gumbo, and fries. It was the perfect amount of food for two without it sitting too heavy in my stomach (and having room for dessert down the street). The food was healing given how tired we were. I'd come back again to try the oysters if I'm in the area. It's quick service as well!

This small and cozy restaurant serves some of the more authentic Cajun food found in NYC. I was left fairly impressed, but not necessarily wowed after my visit here. The menu is classically creole/cajun, with red beans and rice, etoufee, and po boys among the selection. Overall, I thought the food was solid, especially the Gumbo. The Po Boy featured great bread and could also be mistaken for one of the you'd find in the big easy. I thought the etoufee, while it clearly had a great roux, was missing something. Solid, but not quite up to standard like the rest. The vibes here are great and the drinks are stiff. I do recommend visiting this spot if you're like me and miss the quality food from New Orleans.

My friend and I were looking for a fresh place to try and Lowerline looked like the perfect little spot in the area. We were excited for the Cajun flavours and feel. When we entered on a winters night, it felt like a dry sauna in this tiny establishment that fit approximately 6 at the bar and had 4 two seat tables otherwise. The waitress was quick with water, but her demeanor gave off stress and annoyance, but she was courteous in interactions. I went with the Hurricane drink and my friend the Martini -- both very boozy, but good. I had a full gumbo, and she the Etouffe. I'm not sure if it's just every one I've had, but it is just an underwhelming salty water mess with bits of meat scattered throughout - a few shrimp, half a crab, and some slices of Andouille sausage in a pool of brackish brown soup. The Etouffe was a bit better, but the portion was small. Overall, the fare was fine, but the discomfort of the heat and the vibe given off by the stressed staff doesn't warrant another visit from us.

Was craving something comforting to eat on a rainy, chilly night and thought of Lowerline. The space is pretty small/intimate, but they're efficient with seating and prompt. Was able to snag a bar seat and had a full view of the kitchen staff cooking and the owner himself shucking oysters and bartending. Very friendly staff and patrons, great food and hit the spot! Would've loved to order a po boy as well, but didn't want to over do it. Next time!

The Coffee panna cotta was the star of this meal, it was excellent with the right sweetness ratio. I wanted to love this place as my roots are in Louisiana but unfortunately both the PoBoy and Red Beans and rice was lacking in flavor. Crystal hot sauce cannot add flavor, only heat. +1 for having crystal hot sauce, +2 for the panna cotta.

A small, charming restaurant with attractive food options. Kind and attentive service the entire time. Food tastes very clean and simple. However, when I want southern cuisine, I'm looking for the bold, loud flavors that make it special, and this menu doesn't hit those notes. I asked for tartar sauce, which they didn't have, so my waitress sent out a tasty alternative. I forget its name--but I'd suggest that for anyone also looking for a flavor upgrade.

    The gumbo and fried shrimp

It was fine. It's a small menu, So it's easy to pick something. A guy who seemed like the owner or in charge didn't greeet me and I was the only person in the whole restaurant, that felt weird. But anyway, the gumbo was fine and the shrimp were fine too. The space is small, so it wouldn't be ideal for a large group. If you are looking for a lil NOLA it may do the trick.

Ok, so here's the thing...I've been to New Orleans three times and I cook gumbo rather superbly...so keep this is mind. I want to give the overall experience a 3.5 BECAUSE of my heavy experience in the creole culinary arts. Husband had the gumbo, which was aiight because I prefer my roux THICK. flavor was finnnnnnneee, but again...you're hearing from a New Orleans visitor and gumbo maker. NOW - the highlight of the dinner was the assortment of fried goodness - shrimp, oysters and catfish. THEY KNOW HOW TO FRY SOME FOOD! ok?!!! and the complimentary panacotta was a sweet touch. Lastly, my shrimp po' boy was pretty good, too. But they played us with the size of it cus a "small" in American should never literally be small. a small in American is a medium and half...get it together. Would I return? yeah, probably. OH! and the service was fantastic! The place is super tiny, but they were sweet enough to call us when a table was ready. loved that.

Came here on Saturday. Seen them for years and finally decided to give them a try. The restaurant is narrow with about 6 seats at the bar and 3 or 4 2-top tables. When I got there I had the spot to myself and then it got a bit busy. If you love oysters then try theirs. They seem to be popular. I didn't have them but plenty ordered them. They have east coast and west coast oysters. For my order I got a cup of the ham bone red beans and rice with andouille sausage ($8) and then a half portion of the surf & turf po boy which consisted of roast beef with shrimp ($11). I was pleasantly pleased with the flavors and the portion. It was filling and had a nice flavor. I also love that they had crystals hot sauce. Lastly, I had a glass of their cava and it was delish! Need to purchase that. The staff was nice. Would totally visit again. Check them out. Visit @iFancyNY on Instagram for more foodie content.

This restaurant keeps winning in my book. Came here to finally try something else. The gumbo is delicious!!! Wow! So authentic!!! I'll keep coming back!

Popped in for a quick lunch and was very satisfied. The quarter muffuletta is still quite big and impactful. The thinly sliced meats and cheese paired with the olive spread was exactly what I needed. The perfect amount of salinity, not soggy, fresh local bread. This was a home run. This spot is smaller than I anticipated but they had good vibes and I liked the energy. They even offered a small after-meal dessert which was their coffee pana cotta, this is such a treat. A strong coffee flavor and a great, bouncy but smooth texture. Not many places you can sit down for a nice meal with options under $20. I look forward to returning.

The items I would recommend the most are iron steak, crab rangoon, blue crab, snow crab legs, and crawfish. The seafood is fresh, and if you love seafood, this AYCE meal is a good value for the variety and amount you get. There is no limit to how much you can order at a time; you can order as many rounds as you'd like. Service: Service is excellent here; staff are friendly and very attentive. The staff are also nice about giving you another menu to place another order. They are generous with their portions and food unlike other AYCE places that seem to not want you to order as much. Ambiance: The restaurant is big and spacious; seating is comfortable. There are tables and booths that can accommodate both small and large groups. The restaurant is kept clean, and the decor is very nice. During the warmer months, there's outdoor seating in Mongolian-style tents on the patio that overlooks Surf Avenue and Luna Park. Every dish was incredibly unique, featuring exquisite flavors that truly "dance" on the palate. Squid (5/5): Cooked to absolute perfection, it was bouncy, chewy, and paired with a sauce that tied everything together beautifully. Steaklette (4.75/5): A fantastic dish. The sauce was once again the highlight, and it paired perfectly with the potatoes. I told our server this when she asked if it was our first time dining here and she found it similarly puzzling. That said, this sentiment is one rarely expressed these days, as Saint Julivert's longevity puts it in what I'd imagine to be an exclusive, highly coveted class of restaurants that have stood the test of time in the face of changing trends, the pandemic, rent, etc. And perhaps more importantly, it has stood the test of time *and* maintained its high level of execution and quality. Saint Julivert is a neighborhood spot as memorable as it is unassuming. We came here at around 7:30pm on a Saturday night. I live quite far from Saint Julivert which is the main reason I hadn't gotten here before this past weekend. Luckily, a friend who recently moved to the area was having a party, describing the offered fare as "drinks and light bites" -- code for "not sufficient for dinner" and an opportunity to find a fun restaurant nearby to try beforehand. Walking up to Saint Julivert was a bit of a thrill for me -- both because of how long it's been on my radar and also because it's nestled on a block that otherwise seems completely residential. The space itself is much smaller than I imagined, very cozy, friendly, and down to earth. We had, in my opinion, one of the best seats in the house, which was a pair of high tops by the kitchen with loads of space for folks (read: us) who like to order a bunch of smaller plates to share. To start, we got a round of cocktails. I had to go with the Kanpai Martini (vodka, gin, shochu, cap corse, guindilla), as I pretty much always start with the martini if one is featured on the cocktail menu, and my partner got the Puerto Escondido (mezcal, beet, grapefruit, jalapeño) which is a super tasty spicy mezcal marg variation. I then tried the Diamond District (mezcal, persimmon liqueur, cocchi americano) which is a variation of one of my other go-to drinks, a white mezcal negroni. No complaints here. Food-wise, we obviously leaned into the seafood here heavily. Tried to sample as much variety as possible and I'd say we did a pretty impressive job. We weren't able to finish everything but we tried our very best. Truly everything was exceptional so my usual letter grades aren't all that necessary because it was As across the board. Eats, below: Amberjack w/ tomato water, crispy shallot, shiso oil Ideal first dish, definitely had some amuse bouche qualities, being both light and bright. The fish was incredibly fresh and the concept overall with sophisticated with use of texture and flavor that was impressive in its subtlety and execution. Chicory Salad w/ blue cheese, walnut, persimmon, coffee cider vinaigrette Our one veggie of the night and it was well worth our while, fresh winter greens with that tried and true blue cheese/walnut combo made unique by the coffee cider vinaigrette which emphasized the sweet and earthy notes of the dish and brought everything together beauitfully. Wild Shrimp w/ salted kumquat, poblano pepper, pomelo If I had to give an award to most unique of the night, it would have to go to this dish. I've had a dizzying amount of seafood over the years and I've been lucky enough try to a lot of different types of things in a lot of different types of ways and this one stands out. Something about the flavor and texture of the mostly-raw shrimp with the delicate and aromatic citrus elements. Just impossibly fresh, bright, and delicious. Octopus w/ pipián verde, roasted tomatillo juice, cucumber, serrano A preparation I'm used to seeing served warm but I enjoyed it cold just the same. The overall flavor profile was predictable but the elements contributing to it were less so. The green mole was delicious and overall this dish was a perfect bridge between the lighter and the richer, a segue so perfect it was as if it was divinely ordained. Squid a la Plancha w/ pine nut, maitake mushroom, tinta, poblano The first of two warm dishes we ordered. A nice complement to some of the lighter dishes we had earlier in the meal that were more aromatic/vegetal/gardenia vibes, this dish was earthier, more umami and grounding. Jerked Hamachi Collar w/ mango-pickle mayo, lime Hard to finish with this because it was probably the richest of the dishes and we were already somewhat full by this point, but I ate as much as I could because it was just that good. The mango-pickle mayo was just sublime, the fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned beautifully -- altogether a playful and powerful way to end the meal.

I wouldn't have done my neighborhood justice if I didn't pay this beautiful restaurant a visit. I walked in here on a cold and quaint Monday night after a really long and exhausting day at work for my favorite treat. I got situated at the bar and ordered two dozen oysters on the half shell. The oysters came our looking phenomenal with a presentation that made me want to dig right in. Everything about these oysters are perfection. They are fresh, shucked with care so they retain their brine, they are a good size and taste phenomenal. The accompaniments on the platter are amazing. Cocktail sauce with freshly grated horseradish, a cucumber hot sauce that adds both heat and texture, a fat, generous wedge of lemon cut with Max juiciness in mind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn by a mile and I say this with absolutely no exaggeration! The interior of this restaurant is also so beautiful with soft dim lighting and a clean inviting aesthetic. It's perfect for a cozy date night, intimate dinner or just a casual dinner with a little bit of oomph. Prices on most items are very reasonable, but the happy hour menu between 5-7 PM is an absolute steal! I deeply enjoyed chatting with my bartender Diego who is part owner of the establishment and learning how they procure their catch and personally taste the oysters they serve. You can just tell how much thought and care him and his partner pour in to running a beautiful neighborhood restaurant like this. If you are in park slope, this is the spot you absolutely have to step into. I can't wait to be back for more oysters and to try other things off their menu! 10/10

Before we ordered the Mother's Day special, I specifically asked the waitress if she would like her tip in cash and she said of course! The special was $95/person plus a 20% TIP ($38) which was $228! See photo below! We ordered some other items and the waitress gave me my bill for $252.86. We then drove 10 blocks to Chase to get out cash for her. I then noticed that I was charged $298.86. It was the $252.86 plus a TIP of $45.20! I immediately returned to discuss the discrepancies. The tip that was supposed to be $38 was now $45.20! The waitress then said she would credit my account. My question was how did this happen! All three waitresses stated it was not them and that the machine did this! How was this possible? Not one of them took responsibility for the discrepancies! Had I not looked at my bank statement then I would never have known that I would be tipping her twice! I then decided to leave to explain to my mom! Then the short Indian (I think) than sarcastically stated "Oh so now you're not going to tip us" Really! I drove 10 blocks and I NEVER ONCE STATED THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO TIP HER! I merely was going to let my mom know what happened and then TIP her! Note* I was going to give her a $100 cash TIP! Had she given me the REAL receipt with the $45 TIP then I would have given her $50 CASH but since she only produced the REAL receipt after I came back (how ironic) and told her she charged the wrong amount, she would have received $100 TIP. But since the short Indian waitress made that slick remark, she did not receive anything! After the disrespect and blaming the machine and giving me a fake receipt? I decided to leave! If this is how you conduct business then you just lost a great customer! PS! The food was great!

Tucked in the quiet end of Red Hook right by the water, is Brooklyn Crab - a lively, coastal shanty themed restaurant serving up some seafood favorites... but on a cold day in early February the abandoned and frozen tiki bar downstairs and the residue of snow salt on the staircase leading to the restaurant only served as a faint reminder of brighter, sunny days that await us this summer in New York. I plopped myself on the bar seating as cold gushes of air swept in with the opening door. The heating was struggling but so were we - it really was just that cold. However dire these conditions were, I was here for my weekly ritual - two dozen oysters on the half shell. Trish the bartender was a great sport. We chit chatted about the weather and her California upbringing and everything in between. She was great company and a delight to talk to. When the oyster platter arrived I was met with instant joy. Nicely sized oysters, neatly shucked, briny and beautiful with the accompaniments I like. A cold glass of beer I had been slowly working on in the background. They only have the $1 Sunday oyster happy hour during the winter months. Staff simply can't keep up with the shucking when it's busier. I deeply enjoyed this meal as the sun shined in the glass enclosure and it started to warm up. Far away I could see the waves crashing on the dock, as I guzzled down the ocean's perfect food. I also ordered the peel and eat shrimp and they were very good. Nicely seasoned, with ample amount of lemon wedges to make this meal truly one of a kind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn, and even though I am traveling away from home right now, I can't wait to return and bask in this sunlit bar one last time this winter. Highly recommended!!

I am much more of a foodie person than vibes (though vibes are also important) but if you come at off peak and off season (i.e. middle of day in the winter), it is not so busy and you can take advantage of their great happy hour deals. We got a little of the happy hour oysters and some appetizers but also got a burger (not on happy hour list). The oysters were great - super fresh, not fishy. Really refreshing. The fries and the burger were also really good. And the shrimp was soo flavorful. I think if we were to come again, would skip the wings - they were ok, though the service was really nice and allowed us to try two flavors (gave us separate sauces) - maybe if we had done just one flavor and let them sauce them themselves it would have been better? Super close to IKEA and unbeatable sunset views. Will definitely come again if every around the area.

The long mirrors on the walls made the space feel bigger and taller as well. First and foremost, I'm giving this place a 5 for the service as they really went above and beyond. It was not the occasional stop by to refill water and grab dirty plates. Our waiter provided great recommendations and offered me a small sample of a wine I had heard him recommend to another table after I had already ordered my orange wine. In terms of food, the bluefin tuna special was very fresh. We enjoyed the hush puppies and the swordfish belly. The fry basket had thin rectangularly shaped fries which were amazing. The only thing is I wish it came with more than two pieces of shrimp and two pieces of fish. The chargrilled oysters were also very good. Lastly they offered free bread pudding which was a perfect way to end the night.

Also tried a new drink, the Freaky French which was tasty. Service again was outstanding, and the meal was great. We'd skip the ribs though next time for the qty and price point. Blackened Swordfish Belly was absolutely delicious, definitely a new favorite. We will return!
