My friend and I came here to take advantage of Restaurant Week, and ironically, this restaurant was on both of our "go-to restaurant" lists. There was no time like the present to finally give it a try. We made a reservation, and I'm glad we did because the restaurant is on the smaller, cozy side. I would definitely recommend making a reservation, especially on the weekends. They also have happy hour from 5-7 p.m., so we ordered drinks and oysters. The oysters were good, and so were the drinks. I tried the Kid Creole, which is made with Barbancourt, sherry, lime, guava, and simple syrup, and it was delicious. For our appetizers, I had the Summer Crab & Corn Chowder, and it was very good--creamy and well-balanced. My friend had the Fried Green Tomatoes and enjoyed them as well. For our entrée, we both ordered the pan-seared snapper with three-cheese stone-ground grits, truffle oil, and a charred pepper and onion medley. The fish was well-seasoned, and the grits were excellent. I'm not usually a fan of grits unless they have cheese, and these definitely didn't disappoint. For dessert, I had the ice cream, while my friend ordered the bread pudding. The bread pudding was a bit tough and wasn't served warm, as it typically is. However, they corrected the issue, which we both appreciated. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely come back to try other dishes. A majority of the stars goes to the service we specifically recieved from Mickey - he was a positive vibe. We went yesterday. Upon entering, the hostess was very dry - almost like she didn't even want to work. We were seated and I noticed the sanitation bottle itself was dirty and had food residue on it. We asked for a replacement. The replacement was from another table and this was almost empty. Next, we looked at the area where they were pulling the food out and noticed the female server (Kenya or Kendra whatever her name was), out in the open, cleaning/digging her nose. It was quite disgusting and very unsanitary. Subsequently, She grabbed straws for our drinks . We then watched her grab someone's food and delivered it. We told Mickey who informed her of our observations. We asked him to bring out new straws. She came to our table with sure plates and slammed them on the table with attitude. We refused to touch them because she has yet to wash her hands. She then stood behind us, leaned on the wall and glared at us with hands crossed with attitude. Why give us attitude when you were unsanitary ? Was it because you were called out ? Throughout our meal, she kept glaring at us and being passive aggressive. The appetizers were tasteful . The rib deviled eggs were good but it had an unexpected sweet taste to it. The country omelette was burnt and the shrimp with grits were too watery for my liking. I expected it to be thicker. A 5:30 PM reservation turning into a 7:00 PM dinner estimate, dirty floors, a $5 can of Canada Dry, and charging you for drinks that literally never arrived? We originally had a 5:30 PM reservation. At 4:00 PM, they called to say dinner wouldn't start until 6:00 PM due to a "brunch influx." We appreciated the heads-up, but when we arrived, they told us our table still wouldn't be ready until 6:30 PM. We decided to sit at the bar, and that's when we noticed how filthy the place was. The space is tiny, yet the floors and carpets were visibly dirty. How are you serving food in a place this unhygienic? When we finally ordered, the server informed us our main entrees wouldn't even be ready until 7:00 PM. The service was total chaos, running more like a disorganized soup kitchen than a restaurant. After a virgin mojito we ordered took 20 minutes and *still* never arrived, we decided we'd had enough. We cancelled the main order and asked for the bill. **Then came the ultimate scam: a $90 bill for just deviled eggs, cornbread, and water.** * They charged **$5 for a single can of Canada Dry** seltzer. * The cornbread was a joke--dry, tasted like toasted dry white bread, and was weirdly covered in white powder. * They tried to charge us for the Mojito that **never arrived**. * They charged us for a Lemon Drop shot that tasted like canned lemon juice, which I had rejected and swapped for a Mimosa. They claimed it was a "$14 Happy Hour special"--since when is $14 a happy hour price for a tiny, dirty Brooklyn spot? To top it all off, they slapped a **20% automatic gratuity on a party of TWO**. Automatic 20% for awful service, missing items, and a party that isn't even a large group? Absolute robbery. It took the manager and server another 20 minutes just to sort out the bill because they kept trying to sneak these charges through. This place is a health hazard, the owner is running a textbook scam, and I honestly don't see how they stay in business. On a recent trip to Brooklyn, NY for a concert, we stopped at Sweet Catch for brunch. We had a 4pm reservation and we were sat immediately upon arrival. It's a quaint little restaurant and they played great music while we dined. We ordered shrimp and grits, two fish and grits, catch-o-fish sandwich, salmon and Aunt Doll's mac & cheese. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Portions were a good size and the food was delicious!! For cocktails we ordered Sorrel sangria, King Street Punch, and the Kid Creole. Again, very tasty and everyone enjoyed their drinks. Prices were reasonable. Just be aware that the 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. Our server was very nice. The service I can say is outstanding We ordered the crab meat deviled eggs, the chicken shrimp and waffles. The Asian wings and the pancakes with bacon. I came to celebrate my husband birthday with my family and we had a wonderful experience! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Kenyatta was our server and she was phenomenal. She made sure we had everything we needed checked on us regularly throughout our dinner. Jerry was so accommodating and made sure we got everything we wanted on the menu. The snapper, mussels, short rib and catfish sandwich was cooked to perfection. He was just amazing. Came here for Valentine's Day recently (my 3rd time here). I had a great time for a solo dinner. I had a reservation and was seated right away. My waiter was attentive and got all of my orders correct. I had the shortrib Devil Eggs as my appetizer; absolutely delicious. My entrée was the Surf and Turf which included braised Oxtails and Grilled Shrimp with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and vegetables. An interesting selection of music is playing on the radio, from country to R&B to rock 'n' roll. $22 CHESAPEAKE CRAB DIP Served with cassava chips was absolutely delicious. So creamy, cheesy and flavorful. Very decadent. 1,000,000 cal. On a salty side, so hydrate well and be aware that you will be drinking a lot of water after this. The plantain chips were light, which was great so that you don't feel guilty for such indulgence. Clam chowder was the night's special so we got that and loved this iteration. It was not like traditional clam chowder, but it was such a flavor bomb that I would return for again and again. Similar spices and seasonings were used in the crab dip. $35 JERK SHORT RIB was a solid dish that could make anyone happy. Very filling. Jerk braised short rib, garlic mashed potatoes , roasted carrots came together in a perfect medley. $36 CURRY RED SNAPPER was the absolute highlight of the night and I would come back for it over and over again. Pan seared whole red snapper, roasted cabbage , black rice finished in a coconut curry sauce. Perfectly crispy skin and delicate fillet were flavor bombs. The curry is on the spicy side so watch out. The cabbage is also spicy. I'm not a huge fan of white fish, but this was masterfully done thanks to all the seasonings. The black rice was superb. Every element of this dish came together like a melody. Huge portion too. Someone ordered a burger and that looked massive and delicious. Definitely will try next time. $10 hot chocolate was the only disappointment of the night. Swiss Miss packet. Skip. I was hoping this would be actual good quality hot chocolate for such price. Should've asked before ordering. Lesson learned. Service was friendly and accommodating. The chefs came out of the kitchen to check on how we were doing and to make sure that we enjoyed the food. Decent spot in Brooklyn for brunch and seafood. The place was not too busy when we got there (around 11am on a Saturday) and hadn't particularly picked up speed when we left, so I personally don't think there is much use in making a reservation. They keep it VERY warm in there, I'll tell you that - but it is much appreciated in the colder winter months. Service was great. The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Split a large carafe of Bellini with a friend and wow did that do the job. Very tasty too and just the perfect amount of alcohol for the meal. We started with the Chesapeake crab dip which comes with cassava chips. I do not understand their ratios. A whole lot of dip (which I love, don't get me wrong) served with like, five chips. We did request more and that was an additional charge. The dip and chips were delicious, but I definitely do wish it was served with more chips. For my main, I went with the peaches and cream pancake breakfast. I do wish they had more of that peach topping on the pancakes because it was super tasty. I did also ask for candied bacon, which is always such a treat - but I must confess I did get overwhelmed by it after a while. Outside of the eggs, there weren't any savory elements to the meal, so I didn't love it as much as I wanted, but that is very much a personal problem. All in all, I think this spot is good if you're looking for a chill and solid brunch experience. I recently revisited Sweet Catch and was disappointed with waffle menu item, as well as the grilled oysters. The fried lobster tail was delicious and well executed when I had it during the first few months of this establishment existence. It has been replaced with fried chicken, but the pieces of chicken are not thoughtfully or skillfully butchered. The oysters were extremely small, and there was a lot of grit which can be very unpleasant. The cornbread and the drinks that I shared with my friend were really good. The backyard space is really cute, but the weight staff seemed a bit disorganized. Hoping that this establishment will review and make changes as necessary. read more

Finally experienced brunch at the one-and-only Sweet Catch. We arrived hungry and in the mood for fried fish. Miles, our sever was warm and attentive. We took his suggestion and ordered the blackened catfish over grits, fried catfish with grits and a skillet of mac and cheese. The food was delicious! Best Mac and cheese I have had in years. The cat fish was perfectly fresh, seasoned to perfection, light and crisp. The grits were creamy and savory and our cocktails topped off the meal. Had a reservation for two. Upon being seated, there was incense burning next to my table. I asked to switch my table because the strong incense smell was overpowering. Side note: The couple next to us said that they also requested the burning incense be moved. My server's response was no because all the tables were accounted for. It was a Sunday and there was one other party. There was a woman acting as a host and manager who was very short tempered. Even when a coworker let her know we were waiting she seemed bothered. Had a belated Father's Day brunch with my mother and daughter here. I had an early reservation, but ended up arriving before they were open. The hostess was extremely welcoming and allowed me early entry. Someone came over shortly thereafter to take our orders. The place was very nice, decent in size and had music in, but not at a level where you can't hear each other and was appropriate for all age groups. Every employee that passed the table was friendly and courteous and wanted to ensure that we were enjoying our time and meal, which is a nice touch. My mother had shrimp and grits. I ordered eggs, grits and home fries. While my daughter ordered the kid size sliders (it's enough for an adult) and macaroni and cheese that we all shared. I like to support black owned businesses... but I despise establishments that lack professionalism and couth. I made reservations for a Sunday @ 5pm, the day before. As I'm heading to the restaurant from NJ, I realized I received a missed call from them @ 4:07pm. I called them back. They are asking me to push my reservation back to 5:30pm because their brunch went over. It would take their kitchen time to switch over to the dinner portion. Idk about you but that doesn't sound like a "me" problem, especially when I booked in advance. For the first 30 mins, I was just going to order drinks and some apps anyways. I told the rep on the phone that I'd like to keep my reservation for the same time. She said see you then. I arrive @ 4:52pm and the music is loud. So loud that people were yelling to speak to each other. It doesn't look like a regular brunch session but an event as there were decorations everywhere. The hostess comes to speak to me and she says "yeah, like I mentioned on the phone, we're still switching over so we'd have to push you back to 5:10/5:15". I looked around and it didn't look like anything was even in the process of getting switched over. It was still packed with people, taking photos, sitting down and eating. I said okay. She said they would call me when they were ready. I walked out and went to another restaurant. I'm not about to waste my time waiting here when another establishment with good customer service is willing to seat and feed me. And guess what? I never did receive that callback. Figures. So everyone saying make a reservation, it clearly doesn't matter if one is made or not. They don't respect others' time. It's businesses like this that make it harder for other black owned businesses. Advice to the business owner: if your brunches are that packed and crazy, consider placing a cap on the table time. You'll earn respect, earn more money and have continuous reach from setting expectations early on rather than having a free for all. They will never get my business and I would never recommend. The host greeted us warmly with a huge smile and offered us seating options inside and in the enclosed heated patio. We chose the heated patio as the interior was small and the patio had more seating options. The main dining space has nice blue accent walls and bright lighting. The patio had faux green grass carpet and a few white tables- moreso an overflow area without much decor. More people came in over time but it was warm, comfortable and had nice r&b/afrobeat music playing. On my way out I noticed a dj came. The catfish sandwich was delicious- seasoned well with shoestring fries. The shrimp and waffle was tasty but the waffles didn't have the cornmeal texture that I expected since it was cornbread waffles even though it did have a nice, sweet flavor. I went to brunch at Sweet Catch a few weeks ago with some friends and enjoyed the ambiance and the food. I ended up ordering the chicken and waffles. For my flavor of waffles I got the peaches and cream. It was very delicious, the server explained that the peach compote was mixed into the batter instead of on the side or on top. I appreciated that tid bit of information because I had originally requested the compote on the side. Overall my meal and drink ( some type rum drink) was good. I have had the pleasure to dine here several times for a variety of reasons and have felt that the current experience better than the prior each time. Here are the reasons why you should stop in: (1) It's a vibe, especially in the summer months! They usually have a DJ on the weekends playing anything from old school R&B to new school dancehall. (2) The drinks are on point! I had a sorrel drink one time that so well crafted that I ordered 2 more after happy hour ended. I am a fan of all of their Caribbean inspired drinks, actually. (3) The food is delicious! I had the best fried shrimp of 2024 here. The succulent shrimp seasoned and lightly breaded then fried to perfection is definitely the shining star for me. An honorable mention goes out to their coconut curry cilantro sauce which is a well balanced, savory and sweet combination that pairs well with seafood and their deviled eggs, which are the truth! Came here for a group brunch celebration fr my birthday recently. Kawana and her team went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time! Came for the vibe and ambiance because it gives that perfect lunch by the sea vibe, and back patio is so nice! The event manager was so nice answering any questions I had before my event, and helped setting up the backspace. Overall rating: 4.5 I've been two times for their happy hour. One of my friends is a regular & I don't usually go out in the area, so it was a great new visit. So I thought it was weird/ interesting that the second time I went, I had a 20% automatic gratuity to my bill bc the first time didn't have it. Maybe I gave the impression that I wouldn't tip? It's a cute brunch/ evening spot. It's small in there so the tip is get there early if you can and give them time to set up if you gotta a crowd. My party was able to access the backyard. I'm normally not an outside type person but the set up was nice. This review was a long time coming, so can't really remember what I ate. But I'm looking forward to seeing them again. read more
