egg with creme fraiche and caviar
    Morlene C.

I already thought Kjun was such a clever name for a Korean Cajun restaurant and then I learned it's also a play on the chef's own Korean name. I ate at her pop-up at Essex Market at the start of the pandemic and then when she opened her first brick and mortar in Murray Hill and am so pleased to have dined here last weekend at her most built out space to date. I've mostly enjoyed her dishes a la carte but she insisted on taking us on a culinary journey of her choosing, so of course we said yes. After the chef took note of our group of 6's dietary restrictions, out came gumbo, kimchi stew, a very delicious umami flavor bomb that was a marinated boiled egg topped with creme fraiche and caviar. Korean fried chicken, watermelon salad, a shrimp and black bean shrimp noodle dish, and lots of steak. Some dishes were evidently a fusion of Korean and Cajun flavors, but others felt strictly Korean. Everything I tried was flavorful, though I found some of the portions a bit precious, particularly since we were sharing as a group. The meat eaters in the group left full because there was so much steak brought out to the table, but the tofu alternative brought out for me wasn't quite enough to leave me sated. We were all willing to be spendy for this meal, but I think I would have gotten more if I had just ordered a la carte. We paid about ~$80 per person and I don't feel like I got $80 worth of food. I would gladly return but would personally opt out of the tasting menu journey.

I wanted to have a nice meal during a very transformative time in my life in one of my favorite places in the world. I was able to get a solo resy and I was seated at the counter when I arrived. The space is very small and cozy; the staff makes use of all the space. I ended up having a reasonably priced prix fixe meal with 5 courses and enjoyed almost everything. The catfish was good but would much rather preferred more of a hard fry vs a pan fry. The grits were insanely creamy and rich, solid take on BBQ shrimp, and loved the Korean flavor profile of the greens. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the pecan pie/tartlet; very hard and dry. Despite that hiccup, I would love to return and give the rest of the menu a try. As one who lives in the Gulf Coast, this is probably some of the best cajun/creole I've had in NYC.

Made reservations and were promptly seated. We ordered a bunch of dishes and while the initial shock was great - delicious fusion flavors mixed together, I don't know if I'll come back. The price point was high but the presentation isn't it.

2.5/5 Nothing wow-ed me even though I thought a Korean + Cajun sounded very interesting. My friends and I had a reservation for 5:30 on a Thursday and we ordered the Galbi Brisket & Grits (2/5 meat couldve been better ), Seafood Jjajangmyun (2/5) I can tell what they're trying to do but it executed poorly like the taste was just not here, and BBQ Pork Ribs (3/5 this was mega odd but some parts of the ribs were soft and juicy but the other parts were really touch to chew. Nothing wow-ed me.

I made a reservation at 1pm in the Lex location on a Sunday. Contrary to the note when you make the reservation, you don't have to do a prie fixe menu. They were taking some walk ins as well. I shared the japchae boudin balls which were decent but the real star was the roe sauce it came up. I got the brisket and grits which is apparently their signature dish. This was delicious. It wasn't too heavy, and there was plentiful brisket to pair with the grits. The cherry tomatoes seemed raw, I thought it was going to be pickled somehow. They ended our meal with yakult. I'd come back here to try other things. I did try a bite of the blue crab curry and it wasn't my preference, and the portion was also smaller.

This was one of the more unique fusion cuisines (Korean + Creole) I've had in a great way. Free Amuse-Bouche (1/5): I forgot the name of it, but it was free so it won't count towards the rating. Was a bit too acidic for me, and needed to wash it down with water after. Chicken Liver Pate (5/5): This was pretty much my favorite dish and one of the best sourdough's I've ever had. The chicken liver was very rich and flavorful, and the melon/plum was a solid contrast. Seafood Jjajangmyun (5/5): Almost like a squid ink-infused japchae. Has a unique flavor profile, and the shrimp + calamari were a nice compliment. The decor stayed true to its menu as the walls contained traditional Korean folk art, while the general interior felt like I was in New Orleans. I would definitely come back to try the Kimchi Jambalaya, Japchae Boudin Balls, and Kjun Chicken Sando.

a unique restaurant thats definitely doing their own thing and doing it well. they have a fun menu of korean-cajun fusion dishes served in a festive but still refined space. however, despite being fully sold on the concept i didnt end up being that impressed by the flavors of anything we ordered. i felt that dishes either heavily leaned cajun (the fritters) or korean (galbi and grits) with only a tiny influence from the other cuisine (sauces for fritters or the grits) which can be enjoyed with most things. the grits also had large pieces of dried corn in them which was likely intentional but not to my preference. one of my favorite parts of the meal was the watermelon rind pickles. got the chicory old fashioned as well which tasted nice but had a lot of ice which melted quickly and watered down the taste.

What can I say about this place besides it's a must go ! Pin it and make it happen you won't be disappointed. Went on a Saturday evening had reservations (they were fully booked) - although the space was small every space was utilized well and everyone had their privacy ( great date night for sure ) Everyone including the chef and owner were conversing and working at the same time - best service I've been too for sometime. No BS just common ground for good food and its origins. Every food tells a story, KJUN was about friendship and a bond. Korean and Cajun soul. We opt for the tasting menu although it was meant for 3 they said sure we will make it for 2 - well let me tell you we were both stuffed to the rim ! Just look at those pics ! And we took food home ! I would highly recommend just going there and try everything the jambalaya was epic , fried chicken seasoning on point, shrimp and grits you'll lick the bowl. The honey chips ( OMG) I can eat a whole bag! Only thing is I had no room for desserts so didn't get to enjoy it! I look forward to returning but will try the other items I've missed !

I had a fantastic experience here! Everyone was so friendly and the server was so nice to give me recommendations. It's a cute little restaurant that's dark and cozy, but very small so you're bumping elbows with those around you. I got the prix fixe menu for 1, which was about $60 (includes 1 snack, 2 sides, 1 main, 1 dessert). For the amount of food you get, the price is super reasonable! I left feeling very full. Snack: Japchae boudin balls: 9/10. These were great! Fried perfectly and the sauce that came with it was also super yummy. It tasted kind of like deep fried egg roll filling with the japchae noodles. Sides: Green tomato kimchi 9/10, Pear salad 8/10. The green tomato kimchi was so unique! It was very tangy and refreshing, and the crunch was amazing! It was the perfect side for my main to cut out the heaviness. It's different from other kimchi i've had, I wasn't expecting it to be in a more watery liquid. The pear salad was good as well, but nothing memorable. Main: Galbi and grits: 10/10 This was spectacular. Truly so unique and an amazing combo of flavors! The grits were very rich and cheesy, which was balanced by the sweet galbi. It also had cherry tomato kimchi and I believe pickled radish which helped with flavor fatigue. I loved this! Dessert: Strawberry yummy: 5/10. This was essentially like a cornbread tres leches. The ratio was off, I only got a tiny square of cornbread and it was about 70% cream! The flavors didn't really stand out to me. Despite this, I still give KJUN 5 stars bc the other food is that good!! I would love to try the other dishes

I'm a huge fan of KJUN. Everything we ordered was incredible and packed with flavor, and the fusion really works. For a table of four, we got the cornbread hushpuppies ($13), honey brown butter chips ($15), beaucoup fried chicken ($68) with green tomato kimchi and potato daikon salad, seafood jjajangmyun ($30) (a MUST order), and the galbi & grits ($30) (another must order). Every dish hit, no misses. The flavors were bold, balanced, and honestly just really fun to eat. Dessert was honestly just ok -- the strawberry yummy ($10) and goguma pecan pie ($12) were fine but the portions are really small and wasn't anything special. This place is pretty tiny with very limited seating, so reservations are basically a must -- but it is so, so worth it. If you can snag a reservation, go. This place is special and absolutely worth the hype.

Decided to try out their lunch special so headed here for my lunch break. Really wanted to try the fried chicken, unfortunately their lunch special specifically for the fried chicken is take out only. Seeing I really wanted to try it, I decided to order it and took it back to the office. 3 pieces of chicken was $29 excluding tip. The chicken was nice, the coating was light and very crunchy. The only thing was inside the chicken tasted a tad dry. Not sure if it was because of the travel time back to the office but it definitely would have been better fresh. Would love to come back here again and try something other things on the menu.

Arrived at 9 pm, an hour before closing and immediately was told that they close in a hour, the entire time I felt as if I was being rushed to order & eat, even turning lights off as my party & I sat at our table. Despite the restaurant being really small & feeling the urgency to eat, I did enjoy the corn bread & shrimp po boy, fresh & flavorful.

    Japchae Boudin Balls
    Taylor W.

We got the Japchae Boudin Balls, Seafood Jjajangmyun, and galbi and grits. The japchae boudin balls had a bit of spice with a nice kick to it. The seafood jjajangmyun was nothing special and tasted exactly as expected. Our favorite was the galbi and grits. The galbi itself was very tender and the grits were so flavorful. I really loved how they put radish on it and the acidity and sweetness of the radish complemented the dish well. This place has limited seating with 4 bar seats and 6 tables mainly seating groups of 2. Service was fast and servers were attentive.

The effortless tranquility encourages you to slow down, enjoy the food, and get away from the everyday, hubbub. Their menu leans into fusion dishes with a nod to some of the classic home-style classics. Everything is presented with a refined, elevated touch. Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. The flavor is subtly sweet with a pleasant tang. ~ Temaki Set - 4/5 stars You can order a set of three by choosing from selections 1-17, or you can order a la carte at the listed prices. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. It is well worth the price and makes for a fun, interactive dining experience with your family and friends. There is also various banchan offered and this time, they were beyond kind enough to offer refills. The last time we were here, we ordered just as much food and they stated they normally did not offer refills, which I thought was very odd. With its casual bougie aesthetics, this spot has quickly become one of my favorite eateries in Fort Lee-lee, It beautifully blends Korean, Japanese, and American flavors in a way that feels both comforting and elevated. Needless to say, we will be back!

We walked into a stylish but relaxed space that feels suited for both casual dinners and a night out with friends, with an atmosphere that balances energy and comfort well. The room gets lively when it fills up, but the noise level adds to the experience rather than detracting from it, making it feel like a place built for sharing and conversation. The food is where Hojokban stands out. The complimentary banchan sets the tone for the meal with flavorful sides that add variety before the main dishes arrive, each one thoughtfully prepared and offering a different texture or flavor profile. The gomtang soup is one of the more comforting options, bringing together tender meat, a rich broth, and classic Korean flavors in a way that feels hearty without being overly heavy. The galbi dishes are also a highlight, with the meat cooked well and carrying the sweet and savory balance that makes Korean-style grilled beef so enjoyable. The portions are generous, and the quality of the ingredients is noticeable across the board. The menu has several unique dishes worth exploring. The truffle potato pancake is one of the more memorable items, combining a familiar Korean staple with a richer, modern twist that adds depth without losing the essence of the original. The perilla oil noodles are another standout, offering a lighter but still flavorful option with a distinct nutty aroma that lingers on the palate. The beef tartare adds a more refined element to the meal, fresh and well seasoned, while dishes like the ramyun fried rice bring a fun comfort food element with bold, savory flavors. Together, the menu covers enough ground that you can build a meal around both familiar favorites and more creative choices. Service is friendly and the overall experience feels welcoming rather than overly formal. The staff are attentive without hovering, and they handle the busy flow of the restaurant with a pace that keeps the meal moving without feeling rushed. The menu is designed for sharing, and the portions make it easy to order several dishes across the table, allowing you to try more of what the kitchen has to offer. The lively atmosphere adds to the meal, making it a good fit for group dinners where the energy of the room matches the pace of the food. Hojokban does a good job blending traditional Korean flavors with a more modern dining experience. It is a place where you can come for familiar comfort food while still finding dishes that feel creative and different. If you enjoy Korean cuisine and want a restaurant with a little more personality, this is a spot worth checking out. It delivers a meal that feels both familiar and fresh, striking a balance that makes it easy to return to and explore more of the menu.

It came with a raw egg that you crack into the soup and let it cook to your level of doneness. Hubs got hot stone bibimbap and as we all know the crispy rice is the best part of it... it's just tough to separate it from the actual stone dish so you can eat it, especially if you wait until it cools and fuses. If I was there with more stomach space I wanted to try the galbi, and in fact there's a weekday lunch combo that could facilitate that.

They advertised themselves as having the best katsu in NYC and they may just be right. With our order it came with a bunch of side dishes. Kimchi, Marconi salad, and mashed potatoes, and others. They were all good. Food came out pretty quick as well. Don't think we waited too long for anything. After we were done they gave us some ice cream. I would absolutely love to come back here again for lunch and probably will.

The Ssambap Set was incredibly satisfying. The beef was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the fresh lettuce wraps, rice, banchan, and soup. Every bite was well-balanced and packed with flavor. We also ordered the Mixed Katsu Set, which was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and cooked to perfection. It came with generous portions and made for a comforting, filling meal. The restaurant has a modern and welcoming atmosphere, the staff was friendly and attentive, and everything arrived fresh and beautifully presented. If you're looking for a delicious Korean lunch in NYC's Koreatown, Jeong Yuk Jeom is definitely worth a visit. I'll be coming back to try more of their menu!

The galbi-jjim was perfectly tender like I could literally pull it apart with my chopstick. The addition of the rice cake, pumpkin, and pyogo mushroom were a nice touch. The soy sauce base was a little sweet and if you take a bit and pour it over the mushroom sotbap, it is soooooooo good!!!!!!! The mushroom sotbap is so umami. There is foie gras in it which maybe be in a little overpowering for some people but I really enjoyed it I could easily eat a whole bowl of their freshly made kimchi. It was perfect. Not too salty or spicy or fermented. Literally perfect!!! I actually asked for seconds. The cold cucumber broth was really refreshing Highly, highly recommend making a resy!! There were just a couple of things that kept this from being a full 5 stars. My 5 year old was required to order an entrée. We were planning to order one anyway, but I still found it a bit unusual. I also requested a birthday candle with dessert for our celebration when I made a reservation, but unfortunately the request wasn't acknowledged. Despite those minor disappointments, we had a wonderful experience. The food and service really stood out, and I would definitely bring visiting friends and family here. I'd happily return again 4.5/5.
