My A.A. With general studies in Social and Behavioral sciences.

Hello, I started out at Ventura College without a pot to piss in. I was living in my Jeep, I just broke up with my family, I was a mess. Ventura College does more than just give you your education. I was on bad terms with my whole family and achieving my degree opened up the door to talk to my mom and dad, again. Nevertheless, I am now back in my family again. I have achieved homeownership; since, college. I also have all of my needs met. Thank you Ventura College and my other schools for opening doors and feeding a broken man, literally and figuratively; via, education And real things. I am now whole once again. Lastly, after receiving my degree, Ventura College is still here to help when I need It.

    Beautiful day at school!
    Richard B.

Why all the negative reviews? VCCC is a great school. I went here for my associates degree then transferred to UCSB for my continued education. I even got help at the time to pay for books etc.

This college campus has intrigued me for a while. I read an article in Forbes last year that had…read morethe 25 colleges with the most bang for your buck, and Cal State Channel Islands made that list. I think the average student debt upon graduation was a few thousand dollars? I have since been trying to convince my high school age daughter, subtly of course, that this is the college for her! I came here once to see a play that was in the black box theater. That was at night time so I didn't get to check out the campus very much. But it was really pretty at night- there are a lot of strung lights around the small streets. Makes it seem very intimate and inviting. Another time, I came during the day just to drive around and check out the various buildings/layout. I believe this site was an old state hospital? You can still see some of the old buildings versus the new ones. It all comes together really nicely I think. I came for another visit last weekend & walked around the campus with my daughter. It was a Sunday and we were looking for a non-crowded place to get outdoors, as we are trying to practice social distancing while getting some fresh air. I'm happy to say my daughter really enjoyed walking around this campus. It's really open and there's plenty of parking, plenty of visibility for sure. My review doesn't include anything about the academia of the school from personal experience, although I have read great things about it and know a few people that have gone here and enjoyed their experience (they were all gainfully employed, as well). I'm glad to have this lovely campus near us to visit and enjoy walking around. Oh, and my pup loved her walk here as well. Keeping fingered crossed that my daughter gives it a deeper look come college time!

The Internet didn't yet exist, so I had to take a day off and go to the law library the next day to discover, much to my disappointment, that Officer Jones was absolutely right. The "pursuit of happiness" was, in fact, memorialized in the Declaration of Independence, which is not a binding foundational document that confers any legally cognizable rights to Americans. I also learned, when Officer Jones interrupted my 30-minute long form shirtless breakdancing session near the 'Endless Salad Bar', that six margaritas is my limit. Point is that sometimes practical experience is more immediately useful than book learning, but no less important. The beauty of Ventura College - besides the huge variety of classes and disciplines that they teach the local community - is that you get the best of both worlds: practical instruction from professionals with real world experience and a close study of the theoretical underpinnings of that coursework. I'm taking a computer class at VC to beef up my professional skills and it's been wonderful. I tried to get into the advanced Modern Dance class, but grainy security footage of a long form dance routine at TGI Friday's isn't considered a proper audition reel. In fact, my guidance counselor called it "concerning" and suggested that I take a computer class. Thank you, Ventura College!

You are given a slideshow and basically told good luck. The disability office never answered my email, and veterans office never reached out either... the teachers rarely give any feedback on top of that. Many emails, questions & complaints went unanswered. I honestly hope they get their funding pulled because this seems like a waste of tax dollars to me!

My classes' first time bar pass rate was about 50%. I started working insurance defense with new lawyer who graduated from Loyola with $100,000 in debt. I paid a fifth of that back then. State Farm and Allstate both have firms where the managing attorney is from a state accredited law school. Course some firms will not even consider you without a degree from a nationally accredited law school. In fact the Daily Journal has job listings where they ask you not to apply if you do not come from a ABA approved law school. If you want to work for a small firm, are starting law school late in life, don't want to go into debt, don't have outstanding LSAT scores, can't get a scholarship or a relative to help pay or already know someone or some place that will hire you, go here. Many of the teachers are local judges, so locally it has a good reputation. You won't have any social life for four years, but that's what it takes.

They marketed it at the time I applied as a school for working adults. I wish I had attended Pepperdine, St. Francis or Purdue Global. COL will literally disqualify you even in your third year. As in you paid all this tuition & then boom! Disqualification. In your first year the classes start with 45 students. Please look at the number of students who actually get to graduate each year (that will tell you everything you need to know) and sit for the bar. You'll see more than half either drop out or get disqualified. A lot has changed at this school since 2024. It's not worth the tuition risk cost or dealing with biased and gatekeeper-esque instructors like Professor Jones. If he doesn't like you (it can be for no reason too) and you pull off below a C+ just remember he's on the academic petition committee. He will make sure you're disqualified later. The mentors I had are paid students & aren't very helpful. You'll try to get study time in & the caring ones turn it into a therapy session & you just wanna go over cases. The instructors have too much power & lack accountability. You're afraid to speak out or go to the Dean because Professors like Jones will threaten you & spend class time complaining about a student having an issue about him turning Contracts class into a sob story about his divorce & 6 kids moving away. Unless you don't work, or work part-time it's a waste of money.
