Luba charged me $56 to hem two pairs of pants, was completely aggressive with me about it, fighting me on how she thought it should be done, proceeded to totally not deliver on the timeline I needed the pants by, and the cherry on top was that she did a terrible job on the actual hem job. I took a lined Renaissance style dress to be hemmed for a dance showcase and it was perfect! She got on the floor on her hands and knees to mark the hem, then had it ready before promised. Apparently, this woman has been in the Englewood neighborhood for several decades, and I'm not exactly sure how. Her prices are all over the place. I had a single pair of pants I needed a hem on and she charged me $46. I grabbed the pants and left. I just had tailoring done by her about two months ago and the total was $32 for two pairs of hemmed pants. That's quite a discrepancy! She is very hard to understand and she isn't the most pleasant person, unfortunately. Her small space is a total mess. There are sewing needles all over the floor, fabric scraps scattered on every surface, and it smells like mold and mothballs. Also, she only takes Venmo. I will say, however, that she does decent work, but I don't think I will be going back to her. read more

Do not use her. Clothes are not ready when she says they will be. When i finally picked the dresses up she put the shoulder pads in the wrong dress and then when she moved the shoulder pads to the correct dress she left holes in the silk fabric of the correct dress and denied it was her fault. THEN the pads looked poorly and she pulled them out in front of me and put skinny ones in! She asks for pre payment for a reason. read more

Luba just altered a neckline, tailored 2 pairs of trousers, a pair of thick jeans, and repaired a top. It was not an inch or two, and everything came out beautifully. You can tell she's been doing this for 36 years. Also she is seriously, nice, and funny as hell. One of these reviews is unfair, at best, your tailor can't protect your feelings and make you look stupid. Luba takes her job of making you look good seriously. I went to Luba to get a new suit tailored. She's on point in every way. Told me how to stand, what to do/ not to do during my suit assessment. I gave her about 7 days to get it done and it was ready on time. She has very good rates and quality of work. I came here to write a review because I saw the last review was about 6 years ago heh. We took three new garments for Luba that needed some basic alterations. We did not need done in a hurry, but she told us they would all be ready in a week. When we returned a week later, Luba told us she had gotten behind and it would be another week, possibly 10 days. We left and then just to be certain our clothes were ready, we went back 12 days later. When we got there, Luba told us again that our items were not ready (she should have called us and saved us another trip). Then Luba told us that one of her 'regular' customers had brought in a lot of alterations, just the day before. She told us that her 'regular' customer had priority over us (new customers). So basically our alterations got pushed back even further. Luba wouldn't give us any pick-up date for our items, said she would call us when they were done. We had started to notice that her attitude and her communication with us had been progressively getting worse on each of our visits (bordering on hostile) and that should have been a signal to us to take the alterations elsewhere. Finally, it took almost 6 weeks until we got our items back and at that point Luba seemed to be actually ticked off at us for even bringing our alterations to her. We never got a 'thank you for your business' or even a 'sorry, it took longer than you were told' comment from her. Upon pick-up, our items had been returned to us inside plastic dry-cleaning bags, so it wasn't until we got home that we saw the shoddy, shoddy, shoddy workmanship on EVERY garment....new button holes sewn completely off-center on a new jacket, uneven stitching along the hem on a pair of pants (on both legs) and unmistakable snags all over the sheer fabric of a brand new dress. We considered calling Luba immediately, once we discovered these issues but we both felt that any further interactions with Luba would only escalate and would eventually end in a non-resolution anyway. So, we certainly learned our lesson with Luba and we hope that Yelp readers will be forewarned by our personal experience. We'd actually wanted to rate this business LOWER than a 1-star review, for workmanship, customer service, communication and attitude....oh....and for ruining our clothes. read more

Not first choice. This lady is her worst own enemy. She is very aggressive and disrespectful when she is questioned about turn around time. She had 3 weeks to complete at her own set due date. Nothing done when arrived for pickup. She gave an attitude as mentioned above. Asked for pre pay amount back she threw the money at me. She should go back to wherever she came from. Luba did alternation of a pair pants and few dresses for me and fixed a zipper on my purse and her job was wonderful. She does not simply do what I ask, she explains, if something will not work and suggest alternatives. Clothes now fits me perfectly and the purse works well. Everything was ready on time, and when I needed something urgently, she was able to do the work very quickly. Prices are very reasonable. read more

I've been going to her as a tailor for almost 15 years. She is very good at her craft and professional. She can do things far beyond the average and her items have always fit perfect after alteration. I go there for all my items. Read the bad reviews, but wanted to give a local business the benefit of the doubt, but not only was this woman unprofessional, she straight up turned me and my 4 year old daughter's ballet costume away! I've never heard of a shop turning away business. It 'didn't do anything for her' to try and help me out, so she said no. I have three dress shirts that I wear for work that tore at the elbow. I need a professional weaver to mend the tears to make it look like the tears were never there. It is a simple question to find out if this is something that they can do. The lady was completely rude and unprofessional on the phone. Not sure how you treat your customers but the way you treat potential customers, looking to bring business in, is not a good start. I told the lady I will call someone else and she hung up on me. I was nothing but nice in the way I asked my questions and felt disrespected on the phone for a simple question. Will never bring anything to this place! I would rather drive 2 miles than go here.
