The Ambiance is really cool and well done. Definitely gives the Mexican vibe. The service was amazing. Our waitress was very kind and helpful. The food was spot on too. Very delicious with one dish Deluxe burrito and the other was the Jalisco special which was super good. My only suggestion, if would like to sit and talk maybe enjoy a cocktail with good salsa and chips. Don't put your food order in right away, take some time because it comes out really fast. Now for the bad, unfortunately. I'm 62 years old and I've had quite a few margaritas in my day. We started out with a jalapeño margarita, they were awful. Bartender did not take the time to muddle the jalapeños, which I swear were green peppers. The drinks had no jalapeño taste whatsoever. It was super sweet because they use their house mixture and then add soda, water and tequila. Simply bad! So we decided to try the house margarita. Equally awful. I've never had somebody serve a margarita that they use their sour mix, Cointreau orange juice, tequila, and topped it off a soda water. I have to say it was pretty bad too. I gave up at that point. I think the only way I plan to go back as if I go for lunch and have iced tea. Again, other than horrible watered down margaritas that are sweet and awful, everything else was perfect. read more

Really fun decor! Colorful murals. Very cool ambiance. Delicious sangria. I enjoyed my steak tacos. The hot sauce that comes with it is super hot! You've been warned. I can handle some heat but wow, this really slapped me in the face! LOL! The refried beans were a little bland in my opinion, but still good. My friend enjoyed her fajitas. The place is nice inside and out. The staff is friendly and the service was excellent. We got our food quick. They gave us chips and salsa first. The chips were slightly over cooked but the salsa was devine. My wife got the fajitas and the portion was huge and it was delish. I got the fish tacos. I was amazed at how much toppings were on it. They did not skimp. There was a lot of avocado slices on each taco. I was actually amazed and pleased. The tacos were yummy. I got the grilled fish tacos but next time I will get the battered because it was a little mushy. But still tasted good. It's just preference. My wife's margarita was really good. You really get your monies worth here. Our bill was not outrageous. No wonder the owner owns 2 other restaurants. We will definitely return. read more

Delicious food. Accommodating wait staff. Kitschy decorations. Ambiance is casual. Drinks are tasty. Would definitely return! Dinner time is usually packed, so get there early or expect a wait. Lunch time is far easier to enjoy this spot. If you live nearby, they offer takeout, which is always a great option for busy nights when you just don't want to cook or add additional heat to your home on those oh so hot summer nights. Get some takeout and I promise, you won't regret it. I hope you enjoy the food from here as much as my friends, family, and I do. Had dinner at Lucero's this weekend for the first time. I figured the food must be good since there was a wait to get a table. Love the decorating of the place. Even though busy, my waiter did very well. I ordered the seafood fajitas. They were very good. They could have been great if the fish had more seasoning on it. I got a generous portion of toppings. The corn shells were soggy but had good flavor. The jalapeno margarita was delicious. I'll definitely be back to try more things on your menu. read more

Not from here, but went to MIS "Nite lights" and was looking for somewhere to take the family. The food was on point ( they could improve by offering el pastor). Kevin went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Overall a great experience. Thanks for making the trip successful. read more

We ate at Luceros again today. We requested Nicole again. She is such a great waitress. Always smiling and very friendly. Remembered us from the first time she waited on us 3 weeks ago. We moved to Brooklyn MI three years ago and Lucero's was one mile away from our house. There aren't many choices so we gave them a try and were pleasantly surprised. Everything was hot and tasty with good portions. But in the past year the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. They opened a second restaurant not far from the first and it's slightly worse than the original. Hopefully they will return to their former glory. read more

(Most recently on our visit we weren't given good service. Watched another table with the same amount of people (5) in the party, not only get their food before us but even we're getting boxes while we are still waiting for our order when we ordered before they were seated. I had left a not so great review of this location when this location was still new but since that time.... BOY! It has truly improved. The food is always DELICIOUS. I'm so thankful for a decent Mexican restaurant here in this area. It's what everyone wanted in this town. Keep up the good work and glad this place is doing so well. When you can SMELL how good the food is from the parking lot, you know it's going to taste even better! This place has a very authentic taste and feel. I got the Pineapple Fajitas, and my brother got the Molcajete, and WOW. They were both amazing. Portions here are HUGE!! Staff is very friendly and helpful with questions. Hands down Best fish taco's, with a card slide of avocado across the top! Dang filling too. My fave is Burrito Jalisco, Monster 2 meal burrito covered in queso! So many great options, all authentic and excellent, have been here many times, one of our top restaurants to go to, and it's not close to me, but worth the drive!! My family went to Lucero's for dinner one evening and it was packed. Every table was full and there was a bit of a wait. The restaurant has a decent sized dining room with high ceilings. There is also a bar area with counter seating and high tops. The service here was good. They were fast and friendly, providing free chips and salsa and generous refills. The food was good. I got a combination plate of burrito, enchilada, and tamale. The portions were huge and the prices were fair. I was really impressed by the food and the atmosphere, especially for Brooklyn/Clark Lake. Go here and support a local owned business! read more

I visited the Jackson area recently to see family and had the pleasure of an evening at Lucero's. One of my brothers and I met at the bar for mojitos to start the evening. They were very good. Friendly bar staff. My other brother and sister-in-law joined us at a table for dinner. Everyone agreed the food was great as was the service. I had the fajita burrito which was very tasty. Chips and salsa were very good as well. Nice ambiance but it gets very busy on weekend nights I'm told. Recommended! read more

This is just your standard, run-of-the-mill Americanized Mexican restaurant. The queso is wonderful in that white-cheese-with-no-spice kind of way - I honestly love it. It's hard to find queso in Mexican restaurants in Michigan! I like to mix the queso and salsa together. The chips are always hard - they don't taste fresh. I've ordered several meals here, but the steak tacos on corn tortillas are the best thing on the menu and definitely the only menu item I crave from time to time. This is a wonderful Mexican restaurant for a small town with few options (and I still plan to dine here regularly); but I don't think this restaurant would survive in a more populated area where there might be more competition. read more

This is probably the best Mexican I've had since moving to Jackson. The drinks are strong and worth the price. The patron strawberry lemonade was my favorite. The food was wonderful. I had the crab quesadilla. We also had queso and guacamole for an appetizer which didn't disappoint. Lucero's has good food but honestly I wouldn't bother even trying to go. They won't answer their phone and when you do go in you're met with rude people everywhere. They will make you wait even though half the restaurant is empty and good luck trying to get a drink at the bar. I have never had such a poor experience at a bar. Bartender was extremely rude. I was so excited to eat here because I heard they had unbelievable margaritas. However, that excitement was short lasted when the rude, old, battered bartender made us feel unwelcome the moment we got there. Wouldn't serve us because we "looked young". I'm 24? I noticed Lucero's a while ago, and finally stopped. On one hand, I'd like to give it 5 stars, as I enjoyed my meal. On the other hand, I feel obligated to offer a warning to fellow vegetarians. I asked the questions that vegetarians learn to ask when going to a new Mexican restaurant. Authentic Mexican often has lard in the refried beans, and chicken stock in the rice. My server was very conscientious, and checked with the kitchen. The reason for my lower rating is simple. I was told that the refried beans don't have lard, but the rice does have chicken stock. Aaaaand, the rest of the story...two of the three items on the "vegetarian menu" include the rice made with chicken stock . I ended up ordering cheese enchiladas, and, when they were served it was immediately evident that Lucero's doesn't permit a hint of any sauce that might have sniffed a tomato anywhere near their enchiladas. Now that my rants are done, I feel obligated to share that my food was better than average, when compared against literally every other Mexican restaurant within a 30 minute drive. So, clearly not authentic, at least as measured by someone who grew up in San Diego, and enjoyed authentic Mexican food for my entire life (until I moved). Still, while not close to authentic when compared to the few places I have found that are a lot closer for Mexican food, none of those are within an hour of where I live, and I did enjoy my non-authentic meal, so I believe I will return! read more

I am so happy to see the Brooklyn/Clark lake area get a real restaurant that's striving and doing well. Those of you who don't know Brooklyn is an extremely small town with just over 1000 people. Brooklyn does not offer much when it comes to the food department, a couple fast food joints, a mom and pop restaurant, and 2 other sit down restaurants...so really not much to choose from. Brooklyn has had a Mexican restaurant here and there that start up and close down after about year. UNTIL Lucero's came around. The times I've been here it's fairly slow, but my parents say it gets busy at night, I'm not local anymore so I haven't experienced it being extremely busy. Each and every visit, service has been phenomenal, between a great server and food coming out in a timely manner, food hits the spot each and every time. I always order Steak Fajita nachos or the Steak Fajita's and not once have I had a complaint. My mom is vegan and loves the vegetarian fajitas as well, she just removes all the sour cream and cheese. I am so glad that Lucero's opened and is doing so well, because the same old restaurants get extremely boring. New different options is exactly what Brooklyn needed. I hope this place sticks around and from the looks of it, it will be! It's definitely one of my must go to stops while I'm home visiting. read more

Very clean!! Cleanliness is huge for me at restaurants. If the front of the house is nasty and sticky then what's the back of the house like? No worries at Lucero's. Our party of 5 was seated right away and given chips and salsa. Delicious salsa with just the right amount of kick. The menu flowed, was organized well and offered a lot of delicious sounding choices but was not overwhelming. I decided on Juan's quesadilla with steak. Good choice. It was great and served with sour cream, quac and pico de gallo. I am not a quac fan but it was tasty. A little oniony for me but I am not a raw onion fan.
