Poppa's Place is a must have for us when we are home in Michigan. The servers there Kim and Carrie are like family and always love seeing them when we stop in. The food is always delicious and we tend to be creatures of habit and stick to our usuals. I always get the western omelette and hash browns with coney sauce. Yes, it may look and even sound questionable but it is soooo good. The hubs got the country scramble and enjoyed it as always. My mom got the short stack of blueberry pancakes and basted eggs. She said that the pancakes were some of the best she has had in a restaurant in a long time. The food and service here have always been excellent and wish we could pick up and move them down to the beach. lol read more

Standard breakfast offerings - nothing spectacular. Though the breakfast options in this area are pretty limited, I've still been here 7-8 times so that has to mean something. It always tastes like a home cooked meal. The servers are always very cordial and quick with service. The interior needs a deep clean - it seems pretty grimy inside, but the grease smell and fine layer of dust on the signs from the 1990's is part of the charm. read more

5 stars for Good home cookin' at a casual local diner. I had the eggs Benedict with bacon. When the it arrived, the dish looked perfect, and then I noticed the bacon was under the egg. I didn't read the menu carefully and thought bacon came on the side. I was assuming that that bacon would be soggy, but, the cooks know how to do it. The bacon was crisp and held up to the over easy yolks of the egg and the hollandaise sauce. Hubby had the hamburger and fries. The fries were delicious, crispy, crunchy, hot, and salty. The burger was good. It is a Mom and Pop place with very courteous and attentive servers. We will be back. read more

This was a good place for a quick and filling breakfast. The country Benedict was delicious. The waitress was attentive and honest. One warning. Don't order the "house made" cinnamon roll. It's not made on site, and it's awful. The waitress admitted that they order them in, but I wasn't smart enough to take the hint. I thought they were brought in and baked in site based on the menu. Brooklyn doesn't have many restaurants. For the few that it has, most are not very good. If you're in Brooklyn, do yourself a favor and go to Poppa's Place. Now, this place isn't the classiest. I think it was converted into a restaurant from an old building and therefore the exterior looks a little strange. The interior is just plain tables and chairs, nothing fancy. However, the restaurant is clean and well taken care of. Poppa's had a huge menu and they just updated it the other day. There are burgers, sandwiches, salads, breakfast and appetizers and down-home type cooking. There is a board with specials every day including a board dedicated only to the pies and desserts currently served. The portions of the food are large and are inexpensive. The food is good and well prepared. If you're in the area and you're looking for a place to eat I suggest you check it out. read more

I had the grilled chicken breasts with mashed potatoes and gravy and my husband had the meatloaf sandwich, also with mashed potatoes and gravy. The food is very marginal. Their menu says they have the best pasty, anywhere; uh, not so much. It was pretty horrible. I've had various things off the menu there, never being all that satisfied with the quality of the food. My husband likes the food better than I do so that's why I've been there more than once. I've been there twice and both times the service and food blew my mind. This is definitely the secret Brooklyn residents don't like to share. Before my fork could even dive into my chili and cheese omelet, I spent a good ten minutes admiring my buddy's breakfast concoction Poppa's Place calls the Hillbilly 'Taters. It's a blend of potatoes, cheese, green peppers, sausage and other breakfast related fare covered in a thick gravy. A half-order was still too much to finish in one sitting. And their omelets were just as big. Since I don't carry a ruler on me because for one, that would be odd and two, my pockets aren't deep enough, I had to measure the omelet via guesstimation. And I'm pretty sure it was like a foot long. I kid you not. To be frankly honest, Poppa's Place breakfasts make your grandma look like a culinary failure. I don't know if I can eat cereal anymore for breakfast after experiencing what I would consider the closest thing to breakfast food perfection. If you go to Poppa's Place and don't experience a foodgasm of the mouth than you probably have no taste buds. The green beans were fresh cooked and had bacon in it, just the way my grandmother made them. Very tasty. The whole meal was fresh and well presented. I don't remember what my husband had but he enjoyed it. My son loved the blueberry pancakes. Our server was kind and attentive. The place was clean. We were greeted when we walked in.
