Didn't know this place existed until got dragged there on a girls' night out. I was so surprised with the quality of the food. We definitely ordered too much for three of us, but it was worth it. The highlight of the meal is ironically the side of bokcoy! It is large, flavorful and I can eat a whole plate of it. Beside the mind-blowing bokcoy, we ordered bolgogi tacos, boiled soybeans, duck confit fried rice, tartar guacamole, and buns. They were all really good, but I would not recommend the fried rice if you don't like greasy food, if you love duck fat (like me) then definitely order it! Second time at Lucha Tigre happened to be free hug Friday. I didn't get any hugs, but everything else was fantastic. There is an excellent beer selection and the bartender made the basil mojito that I requested, it was delicious. The first visit we got the beef bulgogi nachos that everyone raves about and they were good, but I wanted to try something different this go around and was not disappointed! We did the tapas thing with crispy Vietnamese spring rolls, pork belly buns (ridiculously good, as noted on the menu), and one each of the empanadas, which were quite savory; my favorite being the red curry chicken and least favorite being the shiitake and queso. Service both times was stellar and prices are fair for exceptional food. I recommend Lucha Tigre for a first date as well as business dinners. The atmosphere is casual, but elegant and it is sure to impress anyone you invite. Next time, I want my free hug, though. read more

The Bulgogi was tender and well marinated. Genera Tso's taco. Fried chunks of white meat chicken in a sweet glaze. The chicken was a bit on the dry side but the sauce was very tasty. Came with steamed broccoli. Mu shu pork taco. Thin strips of pork with vegetables in a tasty brown sauce. Asian pulled pork taco. Came with a creamy slaw. Our least favorite. Bulgogi taco. This place was a solid four stars, maybe four and a half or five for food quality. I got the bulgogi bowl and my friend got general tso's chicken, as well as dumplings for an appetizer. The portions were pretty generous, and both had quite a bit of meat, but I still felt like $18 after tax and tip for a bowl of meat, rice, and kimchi was a bit steep (compared with what I usually spend). Flavors were good though! The dumplings were average. Service was also average. I'd still go back to try other items because there are a lot of interesting dishes. read more

I like Lucha Tigre's ambiance, but the food left me underwhelmed. We asked the waitress for appetizer recommendations and went with her suggestions for guacamole and green beans. When the guacamole came out it already looked slightly browned (as if made previously and had already begun oxidizing). I realized at the end of the meal we had almost half the guacamole left. Uneaten guacamole is unheard of! We decided it was because of a slightly bland flavor with nothing that kept you coming back for more. The green beans were good, but nothing special, and seemed an odd recommendation when looking the list of appetizers. I had the Pad Thai for my main course. The portion size was generous and I took about half of it home. I had been intrigued by the idea of mixing Thai Pad with a Latin style pork, but the flavor combination didn't really work for me. We had no idea what Asian-Latin fusion actually meant, but it means delicioso! Started with the salsa sampler complete with sweet potato and tortillas chips (free refill y'all). Very gluten free friendly, I got the 3 General Tso's tacos tofu (+ broccoli and sesame seeds) on corn tortillas that came with ginger miso salad and beans. Tofu is not breaded but rolled in corn starch and made with gluten free soy sauce. Sooo goooood. Left overs for daysss. Carnivore gluten full husband got duck quesadills, which the waiter said were unfinishable but he proceeded to devour whole plate. Great out door siting are cutely liked with mint plants and stringed with cafe lights. Only downfall was yhere wasnt too many vegetarian options and waiter first brought tacos made with non gluten free soy sauce that I thankfully didn't take a bite of before he realized the mistake. I want to start off by saying that Lucha Tigre is definitely doing something unique: very interesting menu (Asian/Latin fusion) and decor (Che Guevara-inspired Asian art). I'm not sure if they quite pulled it off though, and they still charge a bit for it. I came here for lunch and first tried some of the vegan Ceviche. I wanted to like it, but the meat substitute was just odd tasting in the dish. I have nothing against meat substitute, but it really tasted like someone had just replaced shrimp (the other option) without changing anything else. For my entree I had the Pad Thai Al Pastor. I love Pad Thai and Al Pastor, so what could go wrong? This is the hardest part about fusion. When the two things being fused are favorites, it sets very high expectations. Unfortunately the Pad Thai Al Pastor wasn't as good as Pad Thai or Al Pastor. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I want to love Lucha Tigre, but the food was expensively average. I got the delicious beef bulgogi nachos. To be honest I was hesitant at first because it was a weird combination. The meat is kind of sweet and the kimchi is a perfect balance. The portion is HUGE!!! My fiancé and I were in Chapel Hill for a Tar Heel filled weekend and stumbled upon this place after a quick search on Yelp. It was a good sign when we walked in on a Monday night and found the place bustling. We were seated at a table right in the middle of the restaurant so we were able to take in all the cool décor. We really enjoyed the paintings of Lechadors in suits and Sumos wrestling tigers. Lecha Tigre has a very cool menu that offers a wide array of Mexican and Asian Tapas. Our eyes went straight to the pork buns. Living in NYC, we had been lucky enough to taste some really good pork buns, and I have to say that these were up there with some of the best we've had. We also tried the Mexican street corn and the shrimp ceviche. Both very flavor, but bizarre presentation. The Mexican corn is served off the cob and we had to mix the ingredients together. It's a cool concept, but it made it seem like we were eating baby food mixed together. The shrimp ceviche was also presently oddly. This was the first time ever we had ceviche not served in a some sort of glass. Presentation aside it was still very good. The crisps that came with the ceviche were also very good. They gave you a nice mix of homemade chips and Mexican tortillas chips. Overall, we left full and very satisfied. We totally recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Chapel Hill and is willing to venture away from Franklin Street for a meal. The menu is jammed packed with a lot of really interesting items. I came to Chapel Hill for a conference and we had made a reservation for a party of about 20 for dinner. They seated us immediately and our waitress was so sweet. I got the the Lucha ACP because duck sounded amazing. It was! Except my duck was a little burnt, in turn, causing the duck to be a bit dry. The fried rice also had duck dispersed throughout it and the dish has really good flavor. They put sauce on top of the duck, but I wish they put more sauce on it because it can be a little bland. The addition of the Poblanos added a little kick to the rice and was delish. They have a unique menu and if I do get the chance to go back, I wanna try all the other menu items! I love the theme of the restaurant also! I like their twist and I applaud them for their ideas. We ordered one of the house made guacamoles with pomegranate, and the combination of fried wonton dippers and tortillas as chips was definitely different and fun. However, most of the excitement for our meal completely died out when we ordered our main tacos. Probably the best taco I ordered was the bulgogi taco, but the bean taco definitely left something to be desired. Overall, the beans lacked substantial flavor and basically blended in with the tortilla. This left the tortilla soggy and a bit disappointing. There was also barely any cheese. I ordered the 3 taco plate and my husband ordered the lomo saltado. All 4 meats on our plates were pretty bad. They were all dry and we didn't enjoy the flavors. None of the meats were hot either- we suspect they were prepared earlier in the day and had been sitting for some time. If it wasn't for the salad that came with the tacos, I would have left hungry. Generally inattentive, more interested in speaking with coworkers than customers, and just a bit too sure that they are cool because they have slammed two cultures together on a taco. Meh. I eat here at least once a week and can say without hesitation that the combination of awesome food (Latin/Asian fusion), tasty cocktails, chill atmosphere, and friendly service keeps me coming back again and again. Favorite food items include: steamed pork dumplings, flash fried green beans, General Tso's chicken bowl, and the tres leches cake! For drinks you can never go wrong with a dark and stormy, but the basil saketini, pisco flower, and array of margarita options keep things interesting.
