Love this place!! The food is always delicious, and the ambience is very nice yet still comfortable. Lots of parking in the lot for the building (a rare thing for Franklin St), and the big windows are great for people watching (: The drinks were surprisingly what stood out to me about our meal! I loooove Mango Lassi and Chimney's is phenomenal, and the Massla Chai is to die for!!!

Another great Indian restaurant on Franklin! We came here on a Sunday night, and there weren't many people there. It was quiet, bright, and clean inside, and our server was quite softspoken and kind. I ordered the mixed grill, plain naan, and my friend got the chicken biryani. The food came pretty quickly and I was served with a beautiful platter of chicken tikka, tandoori chicken and shrimp, and other meats that I'm not too sure of. It also came with a side of white rice. Everything was scrumptious! It was packed with flavor so you definitely need some naan or rice to go with bites. The naan was cooked nicely and had butter on it. They give you a ton of meat which filled me up! Overall, very good Indian food, and I would love to come back!

This restaurant is beautiful and clean and staff is very nice. And the food was awesome! We got the lunch specials. One vegetarian and one non-vegetarian. It's a pre-set menu with fried vegetables (squash blossoms maybe) as an appetizer (these were delicious!), chicken tikka masala or shahi paneer (same spices, one just had chicken and the other didn't, both delicious, chicken came in big chunks), lamb bhuna or mixed vegetables (same spices, one was vegetarian, the vegetarian one was my favorite of all the dishes), a chickpea dish which had a great flavor and was a bit spicy (we ordered mild for everything), naan (fresh and soft), and a gulab jamun for dessert (like a donut hole soaked in syrup). We also got samosas for an appetizer and they were cooked perfectly with a bit of crunch and had a great flavor and texture to the filling. I would definitely go back!

The service was impeccable! Our waitress was impeccable!!! Chimney Indian Kitchen + Bar gave us authentic flavour, mouth watering, phenomenal food, and drinks! Kudos to all the staff from our waitress who greeted us with a welcoming smile even if it was 20 mins before closing the kitchen. The chef who made our food fresh and delicious! Our drinks are delicious too. They mean business! This restaurant is awesome! This is by far the most delicious Indian food I've tasted in the Chapel Hill area. We came across the Chimney Indian Kitchen + Bar that has a good ambiance and a very nice restaurant. They gave us the experience and food that we were craving for a while. We will definitely come back! Highly recommended!

    Lunch thali - vegetarian option.

Stopped here for a quick lunch because I was in the area for an appointment. I kept it simple and chose the $15 vegetarian lunch thali. I appreciate that the wait staff asked for my spice level when I gave my order. While I'm sure the list of items change, what I received was vegetable pakora for the appetizer, a small "salad" of onions, carrot and cilantro, chana masala, another vegetable dish, a bowl of rice, and 2 pieces of gulab jamun. Oh, and 2 pieces of naan, plus chutneys -- cilantro and tamarind. The food arrived at the table quickly and was piping hot! The taste of every single item was delicious and definitely fresh tasting. The only issue is that the service was not particularly friendly or engaging. I didn't expect for the server to have a conversation with me, but he gave off a vibe as if he wanted me to hurry up, eat and then leave. On the other hand, he wasn't abrupt, just...indifferent? Anyway, five stars for the food and ease of parking. One star off for the service.

I just went for Masala Chai, they gave quick instant tea on the name of chai for 4.3$ Atleast they could mention what I am going to get, really disappointed for what I got for the price.

How about just the perfect town with just the perfect strip of restaurants and people. Chimney is in the middle of it all with a great open corner space. The decor is superb, lounge area, bar, table seating and awsome lighting. I loved everything about inside. We were so hungry and Yelp show me all the restaurants nearby however by time I decide I wanted Indian food, it apparently was closed for two hours but the doors were still open so when we walked in unbeknownst, a smiling Parvin meet us saying they are closed but he will take us as his last lunch costumers. Our chicken tikka masala and garlic Nan bread with rice was the most delectable. Without looking on the menu we ordered. Parvin chat us up about Indian beer which we decided to get which was great. Parvin was so helpful and we chatted about the town, restaurant and cricket. Very great experience, great food and clean well put together dinning space.

Atmosphere: Chimney is a clean, elegant restaurant located on Franklin Street. The restaurant is pretty spacious and has a welcoming bar when you first enter. The parking available in front of Chimney is also a big bonus compared to other restaurants on Franklin. Service: Our server was kind and prompt in taking our order. The food did take a bit longer than expected to come out however, with about a 20 minute gap in between our starter and the main entrees. Food: We started with the Basket of Naans. The plain and garlic naans made for a great starter/side during our meal. We also got the Tandoori Chicken, which was spicy and had a good amount of sauce on it. For our main dishes, we ordered the Chicken Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Chana Masala. The main courses initially appeared to be small in portion, but they were very filling. The Biryani was one of our favorites and was simple, spicy, and full of flavor. The sauces in the Tikka Masala and Chana Masala were also rich and complex, especially when absorbed by the leftover naan. Overall: Although a bit pricey, Chimney makes some great food. This is a great spot for a date night or an indulging dinner with friends. We would love to come back to try more of their dishes!

The food taste good and above average. The service is okay. The ambience is average, not any fancy.

We had a delicious lunch at Chimney. They have a lunch special with different small portions so you get a taste of different things, including dessert. Everything was wonderful and just the right amount.

Seeking takeout, I wanted a South Indian taste but the trademark delicacy from the region, the dosa (which this place does offer), does not travel well. As such, I ordered a bisibelebath, a lentil and rice mix with a distinctive mix of sour, spicy, and savory notes. I hadn't ordered that in years, but I wish I ate it more often. The restaurant is also notable for offering options with tofu for the non-dairy crowd, and I got a house special curry with peas to try that out, which was satisfying. A chaat with mixed chickpeas and potatoes was covered in abundant crispy noodles and delivered a sweeter but still savory flavor note. On the more indulgent side, I got a filled bread with some cheese. Even for takeout, they focused on making the experience outstanding. Everything was ready quickly, and they offered me a set of fryums, little starchy appetizers that are what I would have received had I eaten in. A spicy pickle of probably mango was included as well. Strangely, they still gave me yet one more dish I did not order. I found the smell of my takeout bag utterly foul, and discovered that they had given me some sort of cauliflower dish as well. I appreciate the thought, and they correctly gave me a vegetarian appetizer, but apparently they didn't consider that offering such a dish would not be a plus to those of us who are supertasters of cruciferous vegetables. I threw it out to prevent the food and my car from smelling like rotten eggs. Having said that, it wouldn't really be fair of me to knock them down for being generous. Clearly, the intent was to produce an outstanding experience, and while I did not have time to dine in, it would have been a nice place to do so.

The staff were very friendly and it's a nice place, so I hate to criticize, but I gotta be honest. Firstly, the drinks. Among our table, we ordered a Mai Tai, a Whiskey Sour, and a Tamarind Margarita. The Mai Tai was so sweet it basically tasted like syrup -- undrinkable. The other two drinks were also way too sweet and lacking any alcohol content whatsoever. They really need to find a different bartender. As far as food, I really feel like the chefs aren't familiar with what Indian food is supposed to taste like. The chana masala was lacking in flavor, salt, and the tanginess that it's supposed to have. The palak paneer was also bland, and the spinach is normally chopped finer or even blended. The malai kofta was too sweet, and the menu didn't mention that it had raisins in it ... had that been clear, I wouldn't have ordered it. We also ordered dessert ... tried to get the rasmalai, but were told they ran out. So we got the gulab jamun and the kheer. The gulab jamun was fine. The kheer was awful. It was super thin and watery, instead of thick and creamy.

Food came out in waves (most of the table had ordered family style, my partner and I ordered separately as we are vegan), but promptly overall. They had a lot of vegetarian options, and maybe 3-4 vegan mains total (a few appetizers as well)? We got the Chana Masala (spice 4/10) which was FANTASTIC. Even my partner, who usually isnt a huge fan of Chana Masala, loved it! The Vegetable Biryani (spice 5/10) was solid, but I liked the Chana Masala more. The difference in spice level between the Chana Masala and the Biryani was a bit more than you'd expect going from 4 to 5. The four was not too spicy, just a bit of a kick, whereas the 5 was about as spicy as I'd want something (much more spicy and I wouldnt enjoy it). Overall, a positive experience! I would come back for that Chana Masala :)

It was not busy on a Sunday and I'm guess it's geared towards people that work in the area on weekdays. Walking to the bathroom and bypassing the vacant security desk for the building was a strange experience. The menu is South Indian; there were some differences in what was online and what I found on the printed menu, but it was a wide and interesting selection with abundant options for special dietary needs. I ordered a dosa and an appetizer, which were splendidly presented on banana leaves. I asked for my Indo-Chinese paneer extra spicy, and they seemed a bit skeptical, but it did deliver a heck of a spice kick and an abundance of leafy tropical flavor (full curry leaves are common in this cuisine). The dosa was large, extra thin, quite salty, and satisfying. A chai was small and unsweetened. I didn't get quite the bustling atmosphere that their other location (in Cary) possessed and the menu for some reason did not have the kottu paratha I wanted to try, but I would definitely recommend anyone seeking some South Indian food to come here.

The naan itself is freshly made and SOFT, thick, and has a nice chew. Best naan in the triangle area. Highly recommend the bread basket as you get a good variety of their different naans. The paneer pakora is crispy, piping hot, and has a great cumin and lightly salted taste. In the middle is mint chutney so it's has nice layers of flavors. The lamb palak was super tasty as well! The lamb jalfrezi was also a show stopper, it was spiced, slight tomato sauce, and lambs again, super tender that can be broken up with just fingers.
