I've been really looking forward to trying Lucha Tigre and I think the fusion of Asian and Mexican is a really cool concept. I ordered the kimchi pancake and it was way too salty. My husband had the tofu pineapple sandwich and he thought it was a little too sweet for him but thought it was generally good. Great stop for late night quality food. Not huge portions but very tasty and fast service! We only had a couple of tacos and the Pad Thai Al Pastor (which was VERY satisfying - 4.5 stars). We have been going to Lucha Tigre for years. The food has always been very good. We recently ordered pandemic takeout. I was very impressed. Our order was correct (yay!). Got the spicy bulgogi entree which the waitress suggested I top with sriracha sauce. I took her advice and it was really tasty. Without the sriracha I didn't think it was spicy, but the sriracha added a nice kick. I also had the bulgogi chicken empanada which I also enjoyed. I guess I'm just a fan of all things "bulgogi"! One of my new favorites! Me my son and his friend all went for lunch today, Sunday, and they had amazing specials as well as drinks specials. I had a $6 El jimador margarita, it was perfection. Haven't been here in a while and won't be back after today's experience. Server was friendly but when there were certain issues with the food etc. the manager was unbelievably unhelpful and just lost a customer. I like this place, with its varied pan Asian menu and casual vibe. All the dishes on the menu sounded great to me. I've only been once and there were highs and lows. First, I had a ginger cocktail made with fresh ginger -- it was zingy and refreshing with some heat, but you must love fresh ginger. Then, I had the green beans that are flash fried with cabbage with garlic and soy - really yummy; beans were cooked perfectly and lots of flavor. The miss was the soft shell crabs with garlic noodles. First, the deep fried crabs were really over cooked and the coating was a medium brown from over cooking (in fact, I probably should've returned them but I was with others and did not want to hold the whole group up). And the garlic noodles had very little garlic and were sort of bland. On balance, I did like the restaurant. I enjoy coming here for lunch. It can be hit or miss in terms of how crowded it will be. Most times it's not bad, but beware if there is a crowd because it doesn't seem like they are prepared or staffed for a lunch rush & service can be slow. My husband and I dropped by here around 3 PM after a game day and were so glad to see that it's open, brownie points for being open late for lunch! We started off with the Spicy Pineapple-Tofu Sandwich & the Tacos (Black Bean & Butternut Squash Red Curry). The black bean taco was sort of ordinary, but the Butternut Squash Taco was done really well. Just the perfect level of spices let the flavor of the butternut squash come though really well. I really loved the sandwich too; the Pineapple slices were grilled to perfection. But my husband thought that the Pineapples had a mild/funky seafood flavor which he didn't enjoy. Still famished, we ended up ordering the Banana-Nutella Empanadas and the crispy green beans as well. I was secretly hoping that the Empanadas wouldn't be too sweet and too sweet they weren't :) They served warm with just a drizzle or two of nutella, we thoroughly enjoyed them. Have been wanting to come here for a while and hearing about their Asian-Latin fusion type of food. I had the Korean Bulgogi plate. The meat was good but I felt that the overall dish was incomplete and lacked much flavor. I think adding a fried egg on top in addition to some kind of salsa would have been good. I mostly go here for brunch and their Chicken and Waffles is my go to move - plenty filling and delicious with some nice syrup. This is a great new restaurant! I went for my birthday and was delighted by the menu (this was during the soft opening) and the quality of the dishes. My partner and I are vegetarian, so I called the night before to ask about vegetarian options. The person on the phone read me that night's menu and also told me that I could substitute tofu in any meat dishes. Here's what we ordered: Tiger Mojito--I don't even like cocktails and this was AWESOME. So much fresh mint! Lucha Mojito--Fresh and gingery! Bonus: There is also a fun piece of fresh sugarcane in the drinks! Chips and salsa: 4 kinds of salsa and 3 kinds of chips (wanton, tortilla, and sweet potato) Vegetable dumplings -- very tasty and great soy/ginger dipping sauce Corn-poblano empanda --very tasty and fresh. You could taste all of the ingredients inside. Mu Shu Tofu Taco-- tons of tofu and delicious sauce, the homemade tortillas were a nice and sturdy touch General Tso's Tofu Taco--my favorite dish of the evening. The tofu was well fried and the sauce was a the right amount of sweet. Mexico-City Quesadilla-- this was kind of a throw-away. The mushrooms were too subtle and the cheese with the deep fried tortillas made for a heavy dish. Next time, I want to try the pepita guacamole, the fried rice, the chipotle tempeh taco, and whatever else is new on the menu. My one critique, and this could be because they were still very new, was that the food came out a little too quickly. Unfortunately, that meant we ate a lot of it when it was cold. Next time, I would order one or two items at a time, and then order more as I finish eating. I saw they are now open for lunch, so I hope to try the lunch menu soon, too! read more

I always hear people talk about Lucha Tigre, so I finally went to check it out yesterday. I drove all the way here just to eat (from Charlotte) and go home and when I say it was worth, it was WORTH the drive. As I entered the restaurant the staff was very polite and greeted me immediately. As I sat down at my table a couple minutes later our waiter already brought us water and asked us if we wanted anything else to drink, which we did. We got the Sake Colada and the Tiger Mojito, they were both amazing. We both got empanadas and tacos(we went on Taco Tuesday) :) they were very cheap and wonderfully delicious! I got the Red Curry Empanada and the Beef Bulgogi Taco and an Esquites to start. I finished instantly it was so good. My friend got the Roasted Poblano Empanada, General Chicken Taco, and the Roasted Duck Taco. After that we both got another round empanada. We were beyond stuffed at the point. However we did order dessert as well. We got the Tres Leches Cake, it was very creamy and not too sweet which is perfect. I got a couple dishes Togo as well and I finished it before the night even ended. Overall, everything was fantastic from the very chill, hip environment to the drinks to the food (everything I ate was very good and that's a big plus for me at any restaurant, like EVERYTHING was good) to the staff/management!! Very good place for dinner with lots of different choices on the menu. Their nachos were so good, and after seeing all of the posts and pics on them, had to get them. The meat was cooked just right and the sauce was not too sweet and had a perfect spice in it. The heatseaker tofu was very good, and the celery and cardigan in that sauce just made it that much better. Their tres leche coconut cake was one of the best I've ever had. We dined on a Friday afternoon and chose to sit out on their lovely patio since it was a nice day. Tim was our server and did a remarkable job at taking care of us. The one thing I love about Chapel Hill is their beer prices; $4 for a 16 oz can of Modelo, Yes Please! I am a big fan of the fusion movement with this place being my first Mexican-Asian. I can safely say some fusions can be hit or miss but I think LT does it well. We did try the lunch portion of the nachos ($8.99) that was a good size and indeed delicious. Plenty of toppings with a nice mix of beef bulgogi, kimchi, and pico de gallo. I thought everything worked well together and I plan on getting them again when I return. We also ordered the Fresh Shrimp Summer Rolls-Mint, Cilantro, Lettuce, Vermicelli Rice Noodles, Peanut Sauce (vegetarian available)($6). I am drawn to fresh summer rolls and these did not disappoint. I can't stress the fact enough that these are HUGE. Two of them can be considered a meal and for $6 you get your money's worth. Located along the patio are pot after pot of fresh herbs and I was pleased with their use in our dishes. We had all intentions of ordering a taco or two but we were already to full. I am so glad Thomas R turned me onto this place. Fresh and delicious food, stellar service, reasonable prices and easy parking will have me coming back to try more items on their menu. read more

Inconsistent! This is the 3rd or 4th time I have been to Lucha Tigre. Their empanadas and pork belly buns are divine, the Lucha morrito is very good (the Tigre morrito is not as good). The Tres Leches cake is decent but Dos Perros in Durham used to have one that was much better. Today I went for brunch so I decided to try other small dishes. One of the plates was steamed dumplings, which seems like be a safe bet for comfort food, right? But what I got was over-boiled dumplings (I doubt they were steamed), they were soggy and lacked any consistency. Good dumplings must be a little chewy. At least this Chirba Chirba gets right... The staff is very young and does not know much about food. When the waiter asked how everything was and I pointed that one dish was great but the other was a disaster, the only reaction was "I am sorry". I really want this place to succeed. The food scene in Chapel Hill (compared to Durham) with the few exceptions of Lantern, Elaine's, Provence, Sandwich and Med Deli is utterly mediocre. I really want this place to take off instead of starting great and then sinking at some mediocre level (as it happened with Kitchen next door). Please do put your act together! read more

We loved Lucha tigre! This is a great place to go and get a bunch of tapas to share. I really enjoyed everything from start to finish including the pork belly buns and all of the empanadas (yes we tried them all!) My favorites were definitely the roasted poblano corn and bulgogi chicken empanadas. We also shared the Bulgogi bowl and the filet but the filet was the winner. It was perfectly cooked, served with chimichurri sauce and seared brussel sprouts. We ate all of it and I normally am not a fan of brussels! The waitress was attentive and the mixed drinks were good. I've never been a big fan of fusion foods but I had high hopes for this place because of the rave reviews and delicious looking food pictures. I got the taco plate and all my food came out at room temperature; the food was good but was not as impressed as the other people who have reviewed this place. My husband got the honey chipotle chicken and it was also mediocre; definitely something we could have made at home. The menu is mostly small plates, with a few entrees, and places a focus on cool decor and some fun Latin American-Asian fusion selections, along with items in just one vein or the other as well. My friend and I split the ceviche, which was served in a large glass and came with plentiful tortilla chips. Lots of fresh seafood and avocado in it, with the right hit of citrus. For my meal, I went with the General's Chicken taco and Pork Bun. The taco shell seemed stale; but it was piled high with the bite-size chicken coated in the General Tso's sauce and topped with sesame seeds and green onion, and an accompanying ramekin of regular onion and diced chili peppers. I liked this fusion -- not over-the-top, and really tasty. The pair of pork buns were also good -- flavorful and well-filled. My companion ordered a few small plates, and was pleased with everything she had. I'd definitely come back, but I'd skip the cocktails. Mine was a basil margarita, which came with a floating cucumber, and sounds refreshing on paper. In reality, it's sporting simple syrup which made it far too sweet and cloying. read more
