First of all, the service was impeccable. From when I called for a reservation until we left at the end of the meal, everyone was not just respectful and polite but engaging and friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Top notch! Food. What a little gem of a place tucked away in a nothing building. High quality food. We started with the Arancini (mozzarella stuffed Arborio rice balls) which were outstanding! The Caesar salad was fresh with just the right amount of dressing and lovely homemade croutons. Perfect size to split between two people. My husband had the filet and lobster special, which he loved. The filet was shockingly tender and cooked to perfection. I had the Chicken Bolognese, which was mildly disappointing compared to the rest of the meal. The flavor of the Bolognese sauce was wonderful, but it left a surprising film of orange grease all over the plate. Not the most appetizing sight. We tried the cannoli and creme brulee for dessert - both over the top delicious! It's a splurge to eat at Lucia's, but well worth it for the times you do want a splurge. read more

We went on a midweek night, place was about half to 3/4 full. Sat at the bar. Bartender was slow to come deal with us, and not consistently attentive (walked by a few times after our initial order, and conspicuously avoided making eye contact). Food had some issues (mussels were a little funky and not very tasty) and took a long time to come out (far longer than was commensurate with the amount of people in the restaurant). We got no apology or acknowledgement of the delay. Service overall was inattentive. I can understand slow because of overwhelmed kitchen, but at the end walked right past my credit card in the bill folder several times even after I mentioned that we had someplace to be and couldn't hang aound. For what we paid and how many times we were ignored or disregarded, I'm tempted to just 1-star them, but there were some exculpatory aspects of the meal. That said, we're not coming back anytime soon if ever. read more

I would give this place 6 stars if I could! Had dinner on Friday, March 8. Make a reservation, this place fills up quickly. But, if you have to wait at the bar, the staff there is excellent and you don't even realize you're waiting for a table. Wide selection of liquors and wines ... excellent. From start to finish, an amazing experience every time. Hostess, bartenders, waitstaff and owners ... they all work very hard to make sure your experience is stellar. Service is A++, which is VERY important to me because if there's one thing that can ruin a good meal is poor service. Never an issue here. And I love the comfortable, yet upscale atmosphere. Not too noisy, either ... even when the place is hopping. You can actually have a conversation with your dinning companion. I'm beginning to think it's impossible to get a bad meal here. On our lastest visit, we started off with a bottle of 2009 Shooting Start Pinot Noir. For our appetizer, we chose the Gorgonzola stuffed olives. The flavor was outstanding. My boyfriend chose the Staler chicken for his entree. It was juicy, perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The polenta was creamy and the asparagus was fresh. I was having difficultly deciding so asked our waitress, Kris, what her favorite thing was on the menu. Her recommendation was a filet mignon with lobster and cream gnocchi. However, it wasn't on the menu. But, she assured me that the chef would be more than happy to make it. For me, that is a sign of the culture there. The staff is obviously trained to do whatever they have to, to make their customers happy. In fact, Kris is a fabulous waitress. Attentive, but not over zealous. She knew the menu thoroughly and could answer any question we had. She paced the meal perfectly. Ok, back to the food. The filet was perfect. The gnocchi was fresh and delicious. not too heavy like some gnocchi's can be. And the lobster was ... well, it was lobster. How can you go wrong with that?!? Finished the meal with coffee (brewed by the cup so it was perfect) and tea (choose from a "tea chest ... nice touch). Although we were stuffed and didn't order dessert, Kris brought us a single marscapone-stuffed canoli ... wow! As with everything else, it was amazing. You simply can''t have a bad experience here. My husband, our 10 year old son and I went here twice and we loved it. The chef prepared a shrimp dish for our son that was not on the menu and he devoured it. I had the delicious filet mignon. The meat was cooked perfectly and the sides were awesome. My husband also really enjoyed his meal - can't remember what it was. As with any Italian restaurant, always ask for the homemade pasta if ordering a pasta dish. The wait staff was very helpful and the dessert was yummy. We ate her a few months ago and I can't remember what we ate exactly. But, foodies that we are, we were so happy to eat here - it was much better than the Brookline NH site, which is now closed. Lucia's has cemented its place as our go-to date night destination. On our second trip (4 months after our first), our waiter Matt not only recognized us, he greeted us like long-lost friends. Lots of Italian restaurants have great food, but Lucia's is special because it also boasts great service and a great ambiance on top of that, with twinkly lights and floor-to-ceiling windows and warm paint that just makes everything prettier. We try to order something different each time we go, but it's hard because everything we try becomes a favorite. The calimari appetizer with its sneak-up-on-you spicy dipping sauce... the lobster and shrimp alfredo that is worth every year it takes off your life... the stone-pressed chicken that comes with pancetta-laced polenta and a lemon-butter sauce you want to soak up with the fantastic freshly baked bread... And don't even get me started on the desserts. Especially the zabaglione. Christ on a cracker, I want that to be my last meal. read more

My wife an I live in the next town over and have eaten at Lucia's on numerous occasions. We went again this past Friday night. To start we had their Peppadews which are very tasty and frankly difficult to stop eating. My wife ordered the Three Fighting Sisters with fresh hand torn pasta. She really enjoyed her meal. I ordered the Grecian Salad with seared Tuna. Their Greek salad is one of if not the best I've had at any restaurant. The food is consistently good every time we go. Selection of dishes is plentiful and varied. The service is always very good too. But Friday night was exceptional. Our waitress, Nikki was one of the best servers we've encountered. She was happy to be there, happy at her job and happy to be waiting on us. It was easy to see how genuine she was. She was very attentive, but not overly and made our dining experience most enjoyable. Lucia's may a bit off the beaten path. But's it's well worth the ride. read more

She had chicken piccata and I had a seafood (mussels, lobster, shrimp, and scallops) dinner over linguini (forget the exact name). We wanted to try somewhere local, and this fit the bill - 10 minutes drive in a snowstorm not too bad. The food was good. And it was a pleasant surprise for downtown Ayer. We had never ventured over to Ayer for dinner before, generally going toward Boston or Worcester for a nice night out. What a treat to find a hip atmosphere, expansive menu and good food in the town next to us. We went with another couple who had been before. Got an 8:00 reservation for Saturday two days before. When we arrived, we were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation-- good thing, because there wasn't much room to wait between the hostess's podium and the swing of the front door-- the place was hopping. Open floor plan coupled with old world atmosphere. Started with a salad topped with flavorful goat cheese. After contemplating the menu, I was having trouble deciding between a veal dish and a pasta dish. Both sounded very appealing. Then the waitress told us about the specials and made the decision more difficult. Ended up going with a special-- a pork chop topped with peach chutney. Perfect size, not too big, not too small and very tasty. Waitress was competent, but didn't have much personality. However, we had a leisurely meal over the course of a couple bottles of wine. Felt no pressure not to linger after dinner. Ended the meal with a delicious Creme Brulee. I'm sure we will visit again. read more

Went here again last night...still impressed. We had the goat cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon served over risotto as an appetizer. The dates were overcooked but the risotto made up for it. We followed that with the warm spinach salad which was great, but would be better with some shaved parm or pecorino. I had the bolognese sauce with chicken and sausage with fresh strappolini (extra wide pasta) which I loved. I really enjoy the concept of picking out a sauce, pasta style with an option of adding shrimp, chicken, sausage or meatballs. If you like Italian food, this is a great place to go. Not only is the pasta delicious, they have great seafood for a non-coastal place. The atmosphere is a little fancier than I think of being in Ayer, and the waiters are super friendly. The eggplant Parmesan is a favorite of my parents, and I like the Alfredo sauce. Having been multiple times, I have always been treated to a delicious meal with prompt, kind service. (Also, the portions are large enough to save half for the next day!) While visiting from Texas we ate a Lucia's two Saturday nights in a row (8/1 and 8/8). One night just the hubby and I went. The next Saturday I brought the family along with my parents. Both times were excellent. My husband travels all over and eats at top notch restaurants around the world and loved Lucia's! On date night we tried a variety of things...the fried olives appetizer were something totally different but delicious. My husband got a stuffed veal dish that was simply out of this world!!! Most tender, delicious veal I have ever had. My mother also ordered this dish and loved it. The chicken parmesan was light and delicious. My father, who is not a big eater, was able to eat all of the chicken because it was so light and delicate! The only dessert we had on both evenings was the zabaglione. It was simply awesome!!! The ambiance is small and cozy but still elegant. Makes for a great date night or family outing! The prices are only a bit higher than what you would pay to eat at a crappy chain restaurant so don't be intimidated. It's worth a few extra bucks!!! read more

I brought my MIL to Lucia's Tavola for her 75th birthday. I have been there a few times before and the food and service have always been outstanding. I called ahead to make sure that the bill came to me at the end of the night and to ask if they could do something to acknowledge the birthday girl. I was given a choice of desserts and arrangements were made to have it delivered tableside with a candle. We arrived on time and were sat immediately. Our waiter, Matt, was very welcoming. He asked if we had been to the restaurant before. I said that I had but my table mates had not. He made sure to welcome them and thank me for introducing more people to the restaurant. Drinks were ordered and we started to review the menu. Everything looks so good and it was hard to decide. MIL asked for the Aragosta e Gnocchi, lobster and handmade gnocchi in a sherry cream sauce, so we ordered one for the table. I would be happy eating this every day for forever. Light, creamy and totally addictive. The white whine sangria was sweet, citrusy and refreshing. MIL ordered the veal Marsala and I had the salmon special with house made ricotta and pea ravioli. Our dining companion had the chicken Parmesan. Both were very happy with their choices. I loved the salmon and ravioli; my only complaint being that the peas and diced onions in the dish felt very under cooked, meaning I'd get hard little nuggets mixed in with the creamy sauce and delicate salmon. After plates were cleared, Matt came to the table offering dessert. MIL and companion both declined. I tried to telepathically communicate with him, reminding him to bring the cake. Apparently my psychic powers were lacking that evening. He must have thought that us saying no meant to 86 the birthday dessert. MIL didn't know I had requested the cake so she does not think she missed out on anything . . . and it's not like any of us needed dessert or could have eaten any of it anyway, being happy and full on dinner. Matt brought the check and handed it to me, so at least that part of the message got through. Lucia's Tavola is truly a hidden gem in Central Massachusetts. If you go, get the chocolate or lemon cakes. They are both incredible! My MIL has already requested we go back the next time she is in town. We went Sunday evening and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The menu selection is extensive and inviting. I finally settled on the tenderloin steak tips and scallops. I ordered my tips rare and believe it or not, they actually came out rare! The scallops were wonderful! My wife ordered the chicken medallions on a bed of pasta. Her chicken was perfectly done, moist and quite tender. The atmosphere was enhanced by a piano player who selected great songs and was sweetly accented by a harmonica player. Best Italian restaurant I've found in the Greater Worcester Area. The food is terrific and the menu is extensive. The servers enjoy their job so they're upbeat as well as polite and very attentive! The décor is very attractive, especially the bar. I've been several times, including using it as one of my choices for a "thank you" meal for several friends. My first time I ate at the bar and had not only a great meal but met several locals and had great conversations. The prices are not cheap but the quality is commensurate with the price. The atmosphere was lovely and drew us in however that's where the positives end for this restaurant. The staff was friendly but service was painfully slow. Beyond the long wait, the food was terrible. Rarely is food so bad that we leave entire dishes uneaten but that is what we did on this occasion. My pene pasta was over cooked to the point of falling apart. My fiancé had chicken parm with bolognaise sauce that tasted like canned chili. We took two bites, paid for our meals and left. Loved this place! There were two of us, split the mussels in a rich wine and herb broth, they were so good that we were dipping the bread in the sauce once the mussels were gone! The calamari was very good, tossed in brandy with peppers! The Marsala was very smooth, and a perfect portion. We finished with some espresso, a creme brûlée, and a cannoli. Lucia's has been a family favorite restaurant since it first opened. We love the broad range of menu options consistently well prepared and the attentive service. We have been getting takeout regularly since covid and the food has been just as tasty and packaged perfectly for a delicious meal when it arrives home. Last night we dined outside for the first time and it was a wonderful experience in a cheery setting. First of all, the entire staff made us feel very much appreciated and our server was super attentive even with a very busy, full house-perfectly socially distanced. My lobster roll was outstanding; would rank Lucia's (and Markoh's) lobster roll as #1 ever. Generous portion, perfectly prepared. My husband's scampi looked scrumptious and he thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a wonderful and fulfilling experience at Lucia's this evening. We began our culinary journey with the world's best lemon drop martini. The rim was elegantly dressed with the perfect amount of sugar and the drink was mixed just right! The service was perfect: we opted to sit at the bar and the bartender was friendly, attentive and professional. The highlight of our meal for me was the delicious Greek salad. It was loaded with very red tomato and delicious feta in a dressing that was more vinegary than your classic Greek dressing. Superb! Easy parking on-street and in the lot out back, on a nice summer evening with the sun setting, the surrounding late 1800's era red brick 4-story buildings are right out of an Edward Hopper painting! The service - OUTSTANDING - sat at the bar - and Genger was very attentive, knowledgeable, and she actually knew all about the Collins Foundation in Stow and the Race of the Century event? Who knew! The food - ravioli appetizer (GREAT), small sirloin steak in a light mixed olive oil/butter/rosemary sauce - just like Nonno made! Even better! They have (3) Grappa' on the bar menu, and a nice Vermentino for Marche where 'we come from in Italy!" - espresso machine with really good coffee! Friendly low-key atmosphere - with a steak house adjacent that share's the really great ownership and kitchens and a plan for a wood burning pizza house soon in the block next door! We recently moved to the Ayer area. While looking at ratings for local restaurants for our traditional Christmas Eve outing found this little gem. We dined with two of our adult children (26 & 23) and were more than pleasantly surprised. Tables were covered with nice white linen adding to the pleasant welcoming ambiance. Found all the staff friendly and attentive yet not intrusive. Our server, Steve, was professional, had a good understanding of the menu and when asked offered appropriate suggestions based upon individual preferences. Started with an excellent ahi tuna appetizer as fresh and delicious as any good sushi house would serve. Both my wife and daughter ordered the filet which was served with a nice reduction sauce, mashed potatoes, and a sprig of broccoli. My daughter usually has a light appetite but surprised me by cleaning her plate. The filet was "tender as butter" according to my wife and the sauce/gravy a perfect complementary enhancement. Our son had the feast of seven fish Christmas special served with Ziti and he readily finished it off. I had a delicious but simple pasta with bolognes sauce, made with four or five different meats along with a very large meatball and served with a side dish of sautéed spinach and mushrooms. Was only able to finish half the pasta took rest home, I know rather gauche, still I am looking forward to the rest for lunch today. Couldn't fit in dessert so no comment there. The four entrees ( pictures posted) ranged from most distasteful to alright. Seafood quality was poor, old, rubbery. In the brighter side, their homemade fettuccine was on point. Had to actually ask for bread. ( I thought Italian restaurants brought bread to the table while preparing our dinner... I was incorrect). I sincerely hate to give out one star but Lucia's was just terrible in almost every way... I live about a 5min walk from this restaurant and was delighted when it opened since we don't have much of a selection in Ayer. I was really hoping it would be good or at least, good enough that I'd occasionally want to go back. Unfortunately, it was utterly disappointing and I still have indigestion from my half-eaten meal. I come from an Italian family that takes a lot of pride in our cooking. What I saw tonight was a pretty poor attempt at creating Italian food. The chef should learn the basics before trying to get creative. The most essential lesson in Italian cooking is use fresh ingredients; local if possible. Instead, it seems like many of the ingredients like roasted red peppers, black olives, etc, come out of a can. My wife ordered an appetizer of stuffed dates wrapped in pancetta over risotto. The pancetta was not authentic Italian pancetta but rather American style bacon. It was totally burnt and inedible. The risotto was like no risotto I've never seen, it was little tiny, unidentifiable balls that I think were actually couscous. It has the consistency of plaster. My appetizer was friend calamari that came out totally soggy. For $11, it was a pretty small portion of calamari even compared to what you'd normally get in a superior restaurant in Boston. We were talking about whether we should just leave after the appetizers but, since the place was right down the street, we really wanted to give it a fair shot, so we made the mistake of ordering entrees. I got the bolognese, which was dry and pasty. It reminded of the type of dried up tomato sauce many places served when I was kid, before restaurants in this country figured out how to make non-terrible tomato sauce. I was amazed at how, with 3 types of meat in the sauce, the chef still managed to render it flavorless. I guess I should count myself lucky though because my wife's meal tasted so bad I couldn't stand more than one fork-full. My wife got Pollo de Melinda or something like that. It had spinach in it that seemed to be all stems such that when you tried to pull out a fork-full it was a tangled mess of stems. It also contained Lucia's signature canned black olives and red peppers. The chicken tasted dreadful. I don't know how someone could screw up a chicken dish so badly. Each dish was bizarrely topped with over-cooked, flaccid pieces of broccoli. Why would you top bolognese with broccoli? Get a clue... I sort of knew what I was in for from the start though, when they brought out bread and a dish of olive oil that was filled with old dried spices. Quality olive oil doesn't need a bunch of crap in it. Finally, the service was quite slow. The place was only at about 25% capacity with three waiters working only 6 tables of 2-4 people. Time to go take a few more tums... What a total disappointing. I was bummed when that space was sitting their vacant and kept hoping a restaurant would move in. Now I wish it was still vacant so we'd at least still have hope. : ( read more
