We had forgotten about The Cottage and recently remembered and ordered for the first time in at least 5 years. Within a 10 day period we ended up ordering 3 times! The food has been consistant and amazing. In particular we love the Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza, Pepperoni Pizza and Chicken Tenders! I also loved the history of this place and looking at the old photos and menus of the place on the walls. I got a steak tips salad and the steak was done perfectly. Nothing special about the salad but nothing bad about it either. Their onion rings are also good. Their ice cream is definitely worth the stop though! They use hersheys brand for their ice cream. Poor customer service ruined it for me. You're charged more than what the menu says, and it does not say "prices subject to change" anywhere. When you point out this small issue, rather than fix it, they argue. I recently discovered this place and became a regular because it's pretty decent food. That ended today, when I was charged more than the menu says for a sub. My 8 dollar sub came to like $9.64, and I asked why. First she said, "Tax." I pointed out that's too much tax for 8 dollars. We looked up the price in the menu -- yes, $8. However, she told me she still couldn't change the price. I only pointed it out because it is a repeated pattern. My previous orders seemed to come to random amounts, so this was expected. I didn't think it would be so blatant, with such an ignorant response. Lost a regular customer over a dollar. I ordered a chicken Caesar Salad which was a garden salad with croutons and powdered parm cheese on top and burnt chicken fingers I also ordered a piece of haddock which says "Breaded and Fried" leading any reasonable person to think they bread and fry it unfortunately I was wrong the fish is bought beer battered and frozen. And has dark meat long john silver's is better and they don't overcook it. I called and the woman who answered the phone was Krause I had assumed since I had ordered a Caesar Salad that they made a mistake she said "our menu states that all salads are made with lettuce and vegetables" and that the fish is battered and fried it doesn't say that "we" batter it "have a good night CLICK!" Worst customer service ever. We went in to order a pizza and were told by an unfriendly counter wench to go outside to order because we said we MIGHT get ice cream too. She wouldn't even take a pizza order to get it started while we thought about getting ice cream. The food here is good, however, it's the management or cashier who is as stubborn and rude, as the day is long. With the orders being wrong... Which happens more often than the other food joints in town, and the gross way this woman spoke to me. The first words after a hello I stated what I wanted, and she repeated it. Order was incorrect, wasn't worth the argument but it's so off putting when a food establishment has a sour employee and doesn't even give a shit to make it right. it is not the phone connection and the orders being wrong so often. Her accent is harder to understand than I think she realizes, which I totally understand. I called to let them know they made a mistake, and I was greeted with an abrasive woman, who doesn't really seem to care if the restaurant is in the wrong. Had this been the first time, or even the 3rd time, i wouldn't say anything. But this lady just kept saying the same sentence and talking over me and even though I told her this isn't the first time this has happened, she didn't care. Won't order from this place again. Got a large chicken parm sub (8.25) and small curly fry (3.75), and when I got my order, I had to open the bag to see if anything was in there, it was so light. The large sub doesn't even fit in the sandwich bag they put it in, it's about 5 inches too short (can't imagine how small the small sub is). Barely any cheese or sauce on the sub, certainly not anything special worthy of the price. The fries were also a joke. The small fry container was stuffed with napkins and ketchup packets and only 2/3 of it had fries in it, which were soggy. Not to be a fatten but for the price I'd expect them to at least fill the container they provide. There are plenty of other pizza joints in the area that offer bigger, better subs and fries for the same price. Try Verona, Parthenon, or even Lazy Mary's. Apparently The Cottage used to be a town hangout in the 60s and 70s, and the current owners are well on the way to establishing that again. The quality of the food is poor and very expensive for what you get. If you call management to try to rectify the situation, you are hung up on. If you check out the reviews on Facebook, the manager or owners loves to argue with people who have genuinely received bad service. I have tried this place twice. The first time I stopped in for an ice cream. My thought was that I would have been better off to get ice cream at the grocery store. The second experience with this establishment was with a rude delivery driver. I called to let management know that my order was wrong and his driver was rude. Slightly outrageous and overly priced but I was in a bad car accident on Thursday and really couldn't move or cook. They brought a large pizza. The dough wasn't cooked, the cheese was burned and completely separating from the dough. I had to eat something so I tried to stomach eating one slice of that abomination. I had terrible food poisoning for 2 days, with an injured back. Absolutely disgusting. The chef should be ashamed to serve that to someone and charge for illness. Do not go here.
