Not sure how or why this place doesn't have better ratings. Everything was 5 stars here.. the service, all the food, drinks and the setting of the restaurant was so nice. My boyfriend, 1 year old daughter & I came in to try the food as we were staying less than 10 mins down the road at Great Wolf Lodge. The pecan rolls & corn fritters were amazing!!! Especially dipped in the maple syrup! We got a kids chicken tenders & fries which was a great portion! Fish & chips & teriyaki steak tips with fries. We were starving after swimming all day and ate every bit because of how great all the food was. Nice beers to choose from & I had a yummy pomegranate marg. They were so accommodating of our overtired toddler as well. Thank you to our server Cera for doing a great job! When we're in the area, we will definitely return. We almost didn't come here because the reviews didn't all look great but we are SO glad we tried it! Old world charm, with wooden beams, wide plank wood flooring, and multiple dining areas. Yard in the back makes for an intimate wedding venue. Generous food portions. Bread basket includes the pecan rolls the restaurant is known for, and corn fritters (yum!) We liked the spinach artichoke dip and chicken broccoli alfredo (which came with a humongous piece of fried breaded chicken). The southwest chicken salad was okay, the chicken was a bit dry and the ranch dressing was a bit thicker than I expected, but the corn and avocado made up for this. Very disappointed, the service was very good that was not the issue. My wife ordered a steak we both looked at each other in disbelieve when a Golden Corral style pre-frozen steak was delivered there was absolutly no way they could have made it medium rare is was no more that 3/8" thick and sat on the plate like it was lost. I ordered scallops which was edible but had no seasoning at all and despite the butter I asked for, the flavor was just not there. The potatoes were cold and disappointing as well. The ambiance well there is no ambiance, it is a family style banquet facility is all I could say, it was sad because outdoor the views were picturesque. But sadly and I do not do this often I would give this just 2 stars, when I say I do not do this often as a former restaurant owner I really hate giving bad reviews. read more

I came here as part of a group of 4 for Easter dinner. Great selection of entrees for the special menu and it comes with salad, squash, mashed potato, dessert, etc. It's a great deal and plenty of food. The food could have been a touch more hot when it came out, but otherwise it was good. Definitely work checking out if you're in the area. read more

I had my family there for Father's Day and was seated on time with our reservations @ 12:45 for 6 of us . We had our drinks on time and served fritters and pecan buns and waited 45 minutes for our meal in the meantime my granddaughter and daughter in yelp when then seen something fall from ceiling on the empty table near us . What fell a mouse moved a little and just stopped until they removed it about 10 minutes later after we told hostess . It was a nice tell up to then because granddaughter did not really want to eat after that and also my daughter in-law . Had our family early Christmas dinner here - it was wonderful. Easy to get to, so scenic, captures the warmth and history of the old mill. It was a cold day so we really enjoyed the fireplaces and the place is HUGE - plenty of rooms. We all had different items and no one was disappointed. Everything was delicious especially the appetizers of pecan rolls and corn fritters - order some to go from the bakery. Our servers did an excellent job and even took our group photo. The 3 stars is for the food itself, not very good at all, but for an overall experience it's a 5, ultimately giving it a 4. It's a very quaint restaurant that gives the feel of Cracker Barrel, but less commercialized. You get to look out onto a pond with lots of cute ducks. For the food, you get corn hush puppies and pecan rolls for the table. We got the teriyaki steak tips (some were cooked too much, not very flavorful), but the fries were yummy. I got their crowd favorite blue crab ravioli, it was nice, but again, not very flavorful. The clam chowder was also not flavorful and a little on the watery side. However, the grandparents really enjoyed their scallops and salmon though, so maybe get those if you go. Service is great, no complaints there either. read more

Although the atmosphere is very unique and rustic, it's not the reason we were there with our good friends....it was for good food and that's where it significantly disappoints. We ordered the Atlantic scallops (broiled), and an appetizer the unique sounding Irish nachos. Let's cover the $26 scallops first. The serving size quantity was just ok, 7 pieces in an oven proof dish. But it was the size of them that put a first sad foot forward: 2 one inch pieces, 4 smallish and one tiny one. But if the would have at least been presented in a salty, savory bath of quality butter, or been melt in mouth tender, size would have been important but the rest would have over taken size. But that didn't happen. They were under seasoned, overcooked and with a 1/4 " of blah liquid. I had to add two patties of foil-wrapped butter and salt just to coax enough flavor to raise them to meh- level. The side was puréed squash, about 4 tablespoons worth. Good flavor but not enough to save the meal in any meaningful way. The side Caesar was good. Now for the Irish nachos.... Sat under a heat lamp, no fresh diced tomatoes or diced red onions or even spread out over the welded, bunched waffle- fries. And the 5 cheese sauce? A pipe dream, really. Did I mention being cold??? This meal was at best poor; lacked value and taste-satisfaction. Server was kind, smiling and very pleasant. The only reason we didn't complain there on the spot, was our good friends feelings meant more to us. read more

More along the lines of a 3.5 star place normally, but it's a novelty, so I'll reluctantly give it a 4. The food quality isn't the star at this restaurant, but the strong points are the ambiance and location. The covered bridges, the old mill appearance, the duck pond, the stream, the small waterfall...we probably spent as much time outside gazing and feeding ducks than eating. While waiting for our table, we got to feed the ducks and geese out in the pond with complimentary feed. Oh those animals definitely know when you've got munchies in your possession. But this was such a nice touch to give kids (or grown ups) something to do while waiting for a table. You know, the days before you could just load up a game app or videos on your phone. The décor inside is definitely a throw-back. It's got wood all over . The bathroom screams midcentury but it was at least decently clean. There's a bit of a gift shop in front clothing and knick-knacks, but nothing that really enticed me. Probably the strongest part of the meal was, ironically, the complimentary corn fritters and cinnamon rolls. Not that many places around Boston offer bread, much less complimentary (I even went to a restaurant the previous month that charged for bread), but corn fritters and cinnamon rolls? They were pretty good, though not mind-blowing. The fritters seemed fairly fresh and crispy, while the rolls were warm and soft. The rolls were not loaded with sugary icing to make you dizzy with sweet. The lunch itself wasn't memorable, but not a failure. While I did get a decent size of baked haddock, and it wasn't overcooked, there wasn't much flavor to it. Even the bread crumb topping was ineffective. The duck was so-so, but I make duck, so I'm a bit more of a stickler. It just wasn't all that flavorful or really tender (albeit it wasn't super dry). My roasted potato side was a fairly bland afterthought. Service was friendly and patient. The server gave thorough explanations on food recommendations and seemed knowledgeable. The prices aren't too ridiculous: while it is Massachusetts, we're beyond I-495. If I come again, I'll try their "famous" chicken pot pie and maybe it'll be better. We go there every six months and love it. Service is always excellent and food always delicious. It's expensive but you get a lot of food. Kid's meal as pictured in burger and tenders. Kids ate some of the meal too before I took the picture. I ate some of my steak and salad too before taking the picture. So you can only imagine. When it comes to food, We typically order from the seasonal menu, or go with fish and chips or the shrimp and scallop Alfredo, paired with drinks. Those choices are consistently solid. The burgers, however, tend to be dense and lacking in flavor. The salads are fine, but nothing particularly memorable. Food-wise, this isn't a place where a lot dazzles but it's reliable. We Stopped in here for a quick dinner after skiing, and we were not disappointed. First, the atmosphere was great. They had a wood fireplace going and it was just what we needed to thaw out. From the delicious, succulent chicken Parmesan, the hearty chicken pot pie lined with a buttery, flaky pie crust, and the delicious peach and berry salad tasted absolutely magnificent! The indoor and outdoor seating was very rustic, calm, and the ambience was very delightful. After our meal, we got to feed the ducks in the pond near the mill and watched the quaint little waterfall streaming under through the restaurant area and underneath the covered bridge that brought us through the walkway into the restaurant. We were lucky to get a window seat with a view of a rushing stream. I read about their pecan rolls and corn fritters and it sounded so good that I had to get some. The pecan rolls were a disappointment. They had no flavor and were insipid. The corn fritters, on the other hand, were very good. They had a nice crunchy texture. For my entree, I had Atlantic scallops with potatoes. The scallops were good and the potatoes were okay. They seemed more like they were steamed then maybe broiled a little to get that slightly browned appearance. The food is solid diner food. Service was friendly and good. read more

My bf and I were super excited because this place was recommended to us and it is a bit far but when the opportunity arose we jumped on it! First off, the outside is gorgeous! They literally have their own waterfall! It's so picturesque that you can literally spend all of your time outside. The restaurant is pretty huge with several rooms for dining. The menu offered a variety of yummy looking entrees such as salads, wraps, burgers, soups, sandwiches and a few steaks. My bf got the New York sirloin steak and I went with their famous teriyaki steak tips. Both entrees come with a side and salad. The very nice waitress brought us the delicious and warm pecan rolls and corn fritters basket to start. Both were so good! They tasted like they just came out of the oven! The salad came out next and we quickly devoured it! It tasted very fresh and was the right amount of salad. My medium rare teriyaki steak tips were super juicy and flavorful! And my baked potato was cooked perfectly. We were very satisfied by the end of the meal and only wished we tried some of their desserts but there's always next time! read more

The food and service were excellent. I was disappointed that they had run out of clam chowder, but the complimentary basket of pecan rolls and corn dodgers went a long way toward making up for it. The pecan rolls were pillowy soft yeast rolls with chopped pecans and maple syrup in, and if they had kept bringing them, I'd have kept eating them. For lunch, my Bride and I split a dish of wild mushroom ravioli and a half-pound burger. Before the food came out, I got a call I had to take, so I stepped outside, and by the time I got to eat, the food was cold. 100% my fault, but I will say that even cold, the food was terrific! My Bride assured me that it was even better when it was hot. Even cold, the coffee was good. I could have used a second cup, but it was never offered. To make up for the lack of chowder, we ordered a slice of lemon meringue pie. Mine is better, but not by much- for restaurant pie, it was excellent. The ambiance was terrific- Bicentennial chic in a 1761 building appeals to me viscerally on so many levels. Preston, our server, was friendly and professional. There's mushroom ravioli and a black bean sweet potato veggie burger for the vegetarian person. The menu offers a variety of salads, vegetables, beef, poultry, and fish. We all like to meet there as it's a central place for everyone coming from Boston, Western Mass, or Southern New Hampshire. We love the appetizers of corn fritters and pecan rolls! The scenic waterfalls with the water wheel on one side of the building and the fun swans swimming on the other side of the building as you walk up to the door lend to the external ambience. This restaurant is not a pleasant place to visit or eat. The wait staff were unfriendly and condescending. Not helpful and appeared to be disinterested in their guests. The food was not worth the price and was poorly prepared and presented. The baked haddock was dry and almost inedible. Additional tartar sauce was not offered. Service for our group was haphazard and unpredictable. Additional pecan sticky buns were requested for the table, a normal request in most restaurants. We were charged an additional $10.00 for six. We were not informed that there would be an extra charge for the request. The room was unreasonably loud due to a single diner at an adjacent table who decided to conduct a noisy phone business meeting and play loud music. The staff allowed this major distraction to continue with no attention to the disruption it caused our group. This was a BAD experience for our group. I, for one, will never return to this outdated relic of an establishment that is way past its prime, if it ever had one. Don't waste your time and money. read more

Thanksgiving Dinner here was a pleasure (be sure to make reservations!). Everything from the fritters and pecan rolls to the duck and turkey were fabulous! In a weird way, I love how the menu was presented. You had a choice of: Turkey (Mix of white and dark meat or only one of the two), steak, duck, salmon, or vegetarian chicken. Automatically included were: Cream of Broccoli Soup (Divine - even my broccoli hating husband enjoyed it), garden salad with a choice of dressing, butternut squash and potatoes, as well as coffee/tea and dessert (choice of pie: Pumpkin, Apple a la mode, Pecan, or Apple Crisp or Vanilla ice cream). We had the turkey and duck, which also included cranberry sauce and stuffing. The duck was an entire half of a roast duck! Everything was perfect and service was well timed, apparently not their first rodeo. The abundance of leftovers were brought home to savor later. The dollar value was amazing; where I live, this meal would have been jacked to the moon. The ambience was absolutely charming. Loved the mini wood covered bridges over the water and the DUCKS! Really, do take the time to walk the grounds, you won't be sorry. Ordered medium rare steak tips and promised redo if not perfect. The issue was waitress totally disappeared after serving food. So steak tips were medium not medium Rare, no redo, no offer to remove from our bill, the creamers were the plastic coffee creamers, no refills on coffee nor the water, no tablecloths. Pecan rolls were not fresh. The salad was average. They didn't have the talked about duck food ! Our Bill was $60 for 2 , for a below average lunch. Service was the bare minimum! Last minute idea to grab lunch on the way home from a day trip. Nice Sunday and later in afternoon. Outside was arm enough for people to sit outside ! We were able to walk right in without any reservation (which wouldnt have been a big deal- we would have continued on our journey). Super nice front of the house staff (although she didnt as if we wanted to sit outside-maybe it was full?) Good socially distanced seating and got a nice window view . My burger was good (although I think it was frozen- I recognized the daisy pattern as a frozen patty Ive had before) and the lettuce tomato and onion (red) were very fresh- my fries were good too. My family has been celebrating life here for decades and decades. We recently celebrated an anniversary there and as usual, we had a great time. The food is consistently great and the prices are amazing. There is something on the menu for everyone. And the ambiance is so wonderful, a photo opportunity around every corner.
