From the friendly and welcoming hosts to the absolutely stunning landscape, this place is totally amazing. The Casita - We were lucky and got an upgrade to Upper Stream. What a gorgeous place. Warm wood floors, a full and well equipped kitchen, a nice gas fireplace, little touches around the place, all really made it feel incredibly cozy and welcoming. We ate out a few times but brought plenty of food to cook breakfast and lunch on site. Our stay lasted four days, so it felt almost like home! The Land - I am an urbanite, so this place was literally nirvana to me. We saw a hawk in action, and heard coyotes. We went on a nice walk, along the dry river bed and up into the hills. I was giddy with the the views and plant life bursting around me. Just be sure to bring a hat! It's bright/warm out there (we were there in early October). I fell in love with the pond! It was an oasis in the dry climate of New Mexico. We spent a lot of time sitting up there, taking in the view. My traveling companion went swimming, too! I can't say enough good things about Cliff River Springs. Those four days will stay with me for many, many moons to come.

I spent an…read moreincredible five weeks (04/01/2021 - 05/06/2021) in "Cliff Mid" casita on the Cliff River Springs property. I will start with the gracious manager, Hope, then the property, and finally the casita. My five week stay was phenomenal because of Hope Atterbury. Hope's kindness and attentiveness pierced through me from our first email correspondence to my last day. She responded to my emails quickly (I have a feature phone without vowifi but got good reception around the upper pond, the plaza, and the parking lot). Hope appropriately checked on my wellbeing without being annoying. During my stay I did not have a vehicle (I still don't lol). Hope generously offered and picked up groceries from me whenever she went into town. Without her kindness, I would have been very hungry, but I still would have enjoyed the scenery and my casita. The Cliff River Springs property is vast, varied, and vibrant. After my arrival, Hope showed me around the beautiful property; more importantly, she showed me the map of the property and the guide to the various trails and hikes on the property. During the first two weeks, I had an amazing time exploring the property and trails. Listening, feeling, smelling, and watching nature be reborn was peaceful and soul satisfying. After the weather warmed and I got some courage, I took several rejuvenating swims in the upper pond. Later on I found a distinguished, tremendous tree to share energy, practice yoga, meditate, and observe life near my casita (the tree is near the longest bench and valley overview area). My casita, "Cliff Mid," was quiet, charming, and cozy. "Cliff Mid" contained everything I needed to feel at home. It had great wifi, a full sink, refrigerator, dishes, salt, olive oil, various tea bags, tea kettle, soap, towels, a gas range and oven, a toaster, dining table, full size bed with a thick comforter, sofa, arm chair, bathroom, electric heat baseboards, yoga mat, books, pots and pans, spices, and hot sauce. My favorite part of the casita are the windows. There is one window in the front and three windows in the back of the casita. I love the refreshing air flow with all the windows open. Also being able to watch the birds, especially the humming birds, from the front window and listen to the stream from the back windows is spectacular. One of the best parts of my adventure at Cliff River Springs were the moments I shared with the other guests and staff. I had different neighbors during my stay. Everyone had positive, calm aura; additionally, everyone was friendly. Whether you come by yourself, with a friend, or with a bunch of family, you will enjoy the harmony and nature at Cliff River Springs. You will leave relaxed and happier (maybe a little sad leaving because you want to stay longer). I plan to return to Cliff River Springs to experience its magic during each season. I started in spring next is summer.

Unfortunate for Ojo Caliente. Whereas many of the past guests rated it poorly (the current rating…read moreof this place is only 3.5 stars as of April 2026), I, fortunately, had a wonderful experience at this one of the oldest health spas in the country. From the stretch (yoga class before soaking) to soaking in 8 different pools to dining at the resort restaurant to shopping in the gift shop, everything exceeded my expectations where the only proper thing to do is to give it a perfect 5-star review. I bought the "soak and stretch" combo thing with 90-minute yoga class in a yurt. I paid the weekend pricing ($85) as I went here on a Sunday but it was all worth it as it turned out, I was the ONLY student in the class so I had an intimate 1-on-1 session with Julie, my instructor who made the class level so easy for me. It was also my first time to attend a yoga class in a yurt, certainly one-of-a-kind opportunity that I had never experienced in the past. A few pools were closed (one of them was the arsenic one), having access to 8 pools was plenty. My favorites were Soda pool (inclosed/covered) and Mud pool but frankly all pools have their own unique "healing" elements to them whereby immersing your whole body in them patiently, you will become a whole new person inside out. The locker rooms/showers/toilets etc. (in short, amenities) were all well-maintained and clean. The beach chairs were plenty throughout the resort. When not soaking, relax in one of them by simply sunbathing or do some reading. The surrounding environment is also a healing element to your eyes and mind. After soaking, head to the restaurant/wine bar for a nice meal (which I did. After yoga stretching and soaking in different pools, I sure was famished). My waiter, Jacob, was most polite and attentive to my needs. The Grilled Ruby Trout with a bed of wild rice is what I ordered and I cannot recommend it enough. This is a must-get item off the menu. A glass of Justin (red) wine ended up being a fantastic choice to accompany my meal. After my quick meal, I headed to the gift shop for a little souvenir. I got me one of the branded crop top tees (only $22 or so) to commemorate my visit to the resort for the first time (I had waited for almost 10 years before I could finally visit Ojo; it was simply way too long of a wait.) The final little thing I did was to walk around the property to take some awesome photos of the surrounding nature. Ojo's setting is simply breathtaking and spectacular. My trip to Taos area was too short. Had I had one more day, I would have done an all-day soaking, not just several hours. That is my only regret. Back in the hustle bustle life in Denver, I am already in need for another good soaking. I could go back to Ojo by tomorrow.

Many years ago when I worked at City Hall, I would donate a portion of every paycheck to United Way. As a thanks, Ojo Caliente gifted us a visit for two during the week. Last year I brought my little card to see if I could still use it. The girl at the front desk asked the person in the room behind. she came out and assured me that since Covid had thrown wrench into everything that they would definitely accept my gift card on my next visit. we laughed at how old it was, but it didn't have an expiration date. My daughter's birthday was on Saturday. It was Mother's Day weekend so we decided to come on Monday. I presented my card to the front desk, girl she took it to the lady in the room behind her. The lady in the room behind her, went to the other side where people check into their rooms. She proceeded to come back and tell me that it was expired. I tried to plead to her good nature, telling her how we had been assured last year that we would be able to use it. Then I asked for card back and she didn't want to give it back. my daughter had to intervene and tell her that it wasn't theirs. I felt like I was a young adult presenting a fake ID and having my ID confiscated.. we paid for our day passes and tried to reset our minds to have the great day we had planned. i know that running a business is expensive and would have made food/gift shop purchases equal to the cost of our day passes in appreciation. The woman helping us was incredibly kind, informative, accommodating, and genuinely welcoming. The location was also beautiful--great sunset views near the gorge, lots of open space for our toddler to run around, and making a fire at night was definitely a highlight. But...the trailer 'FRIDA' itself just did not match the $300/night price point for a sunday on a long weekend. At first glance it looked clean enough--fresh white linens, towels, working Wi-Fi, etc.--but once you settled in, the cleanliness issues became hard to ignore. There were crumbs on the couch when we arrived, toothpaste splatter still on parts of the mirrors/walls, and the bathroom sink barely drained because it was so clogged. The floors were honestly the biggest shock. My son ran around briefly without shoes and the bottoms of his socks were black within minutes. What really sealed it for me was seeing the cleaning process during checkout. Staff were placing duvets outside on the patio furniture while turning over the trailers. Unfortunately, the chairs themselves were dusty/dirty, and ours even had bird droppings on it. It just didn't inspire confidence in the overall housekeeping standards. It felt less "curated desert escape" and more "surface-cleaned trailer with great branding." I truly think this place has potential because the concept and location are so unique, and the staff we interacted with were lovely. But for the price, the cleanliness standards need to be significantly higher.

Because this is a walk in first come first serve situation with also a limited parking lot; do not be surprised if you do end up having to wait a bit. Considering how stunning the springs look and relaxing they are at even just 1 hour, I do think the wait is worth it. Price wise this is a bit $$ at $25/hr/person and then likewise $50 for 2 hrs. We did 1 hr and felt nice and relaxed after. There are 5 different "springs" with the last one being a jacuzzi style hot tub that was quite small and we enjoyed dividing our time up between the pools. We did chat quietly amongst ourselves as did other guests but this is overall a quieter environment; though I agree w others saying if you want silence to come earlier in the day. Overall, a stunning hot springs experience!

Nice comfortable hammocks. Cons: Expensive and felt "nickled and dimed". $65 for group soaks. Spent $50 on lunch, and they require people to rent the robes for an additional $20. They also run out of lockers sometimes, so in that case, you've got to put your valuables in your car (parking is also not great/limited). I asked that my robe rental be comped because we had to store our stuff in our hot cars, and the assistant manager wouldn't budge. We also waited quite a while to be seated in the restaurant and a number of other groups were waiting as well -- even one that had reservations. Advice to management: If you run out of lockers, reduce the price of something or give a customer more. As an example, forsake the $20 robe rental fee if you are not delivering the full experience and are putting the customer out (this is not Motel 6). Make sure the restaurant is properly staffed - even in between lunch and dinner rushes. Advice to customers: Bring your own robe! Expect to drop at least $150 there, if you eat anything. Call ahead to see how busy they are -- probably best to go in the middle of the week (not Friday or the weekend). I was there on Friday at 12:15P and it was packed. No chairs were available by the pools.

We turned out to be closer during my stay and my respect for her stayed good. They noted that I was luck I didn't break anything but I fell into it trap door style and I scratched and brusied myself hard. Muna noted that her sons were idots to leave a dangerous spot like this around when there were children also staying there, As she spoke to me in a patronizing was that she often speaks to most people if not petting their egos. I remember Muna the owner telling me before I could ever think of suing, thank you for not suing us. I remember how I fell and Muna also a body worker did minimal body work like massage or acupuncture to help me heal. During my stay as if I was not a flexible enough candidate, I was asked to move my room around in case someone else wanted to rent it! They were asking me to rent a cabin a very small room shortly after my fall! for the same price! My struggles there with Muna and Anu not having good relations with most of the staff or with me, I had a difficulty finishing and focusing my energy on Native Roots because I didn't feel supported by them or safe there. There were some nice things, like sweat lodges and drug circles and connections with people, maybe the moral was that I needed to develop the connection with myself instead of putting myself through so much suffering...
