I am enchanted. Greeted by a cozy entry courtyard with dim warm light and a lovely carved door, I walked into a foyer with a live tree growing from the ground. I love that. New Mexican design details throughout with flames in the fireplace. Got my key and placed my breakfast order. I booked the "Romantic" room (unit 1) because I'm dating myself and I deserve it. I took full advantage of the dual shower heads in the spacious shower designed for two. I loved snuggling up in one of the big lounge chairs by the fireplace. I called Aji (local Peruvian restaurant) and they delivered paella, empanadas, and the most delightful passion fruit cheesecake. My lounge chair doubled as a dining chair with the little table. Dinner by the fire was just what the doctor ordered. Comfy king size bed and lots of pillows just for me, the prettiest heated marble floors in the bathroom, a ceiling fan for white noise, and then right on time: a light knock on the door. Time for breakfast! Breakfast was divine. A beautiful frittata with wild mushrooms, spinach, and feta. What a lovely end to my stay. Thank you Zachary for making my stay a perfect, safe getaway. Notes about COVID safety: Thumbs up. Zachary sent me a text guiding me with an optional contact-free checkin. It was simple and he still found ways to make me feel welcome and taken care of. This may be a gem as the other reviews eluded to, but we weren't gonna stick around to find out. We booked the bed and breakfast in advance based on pics and reviews prior to our New Mexico vacation plans. On our way in through Taos, it was blatantly obvious there is a significant drug use (meth...opiates, maybe more) issue. Just getting gasoline on the way out subjected us to no less than 8 substance abusers in various states of consciousness sitting on the curb in front of the door. The drive to Palacio De Marquesa takes you off the main road and down a small residential street. It's a very odd location and made us both audibly question ourselves and each other for where we had chosen to stay. While dodging potholes in the road, you must also be careful to dodge the obvious substance abusers walking in the middle of the street. Turning onto a dirt, driveway width, even smaller, two track style street, we arrived at the open gate of our destination. We'd be remiss not to address the "walkable area" assertions, because this is not that. Not unless you want to walk to the auto junk yard a few doors down or walk with/by the aforementioned locals. Entering the gate, we saw medium height masonry walls surrounding a sprawling site of "out buildings". There was an impression the walls were erected to keep out those we passed walking on the road and at the gas station. The facility appeared very nice, manicured and clean but definitley didn't scream...spend a night! When the other reviews cite how quiet it was, it was so quiet it was eery. You'd think you could just walk into the lobby, but you'd be wrong. Having to be personally let into the locked and secured main door of the common space office/main building just doesn't create that welcoming vibe. The young staff lady was very nice, polite, young and energetic. She welcomed us at the front door upon arrival, opening the door and inviting us in. A brief conversation with her as she verified the credit card on file. She advised us the office/main building remains locked at all times creating an even stronger sense the ownership believes there was a NEED for security. Needing a key to enter the common area of any place for rent seemed...oddly disconcerting. A man and woman, we thought were guests sat at a table not saying a word yet looking at us numerous times. It was creepy. Later, As we were led to our room, we learned the man was actually the "inn keeper" who lived on the property. His phone number was to be in the room to call if we needed anything since the office wouldn't be manned throughout our stay, and the young lady was leaving. As she walked us out of the main building, down a sidewalk to our "romance" villa, we saw a lack of vehicles in the lot, a "local" tweaker walking down the two track, and no other persons within site prompting us to ask.."are there others staying here?" She confirmed we were alone for the night. A brief tour of the well decorated and probably clean room ended with the staff member leaving. We were to be only 5 minutes after her before getting out of Dodge ourselves so we can't comment too much on the condition of the room. The best way to describe the feeling once inside the room with the thin glass door used for "security" was an overwhelming thought of this is how horror movies start. Like literally almost every horror movie. The entirety of the scenario was just so off. The creepiness of being in this place and area could make nobody feel secure and I give those who stayed long enough to write a review of the breakfast a great deal of credit. Not sure how or why they stayed to order from the "chef". Despite the aesthetics of the room and main building, there was no way we were staying there. It's a shame because obviously a large investment has been made to maintain the facility. The room was large, seemingly clean, and had a huge bathroom. It had the potential to be a multiple star type resort. There was just no way we were getting through the night so we could experience the breakfast the other reviews mention. The area is so off putting and "sketchy" it won't be able to live up to its potential. Within five minutes of our arrival, we gave the keys back to the "inn keeper" and left allowing us enough time to drive away from Taos and to a different area entirely. For the first time in decades of traveling as an adult, we left a facility and didn't think twice to run from it. For the first time ever traveling as an adult we are giving a bad review. Was it the bed and breakfast itself? Possibly..because it didn't offer the barriers needed to nullify the uneasiness. Was it the location? YES. I'd suggest booking in person instead of taking the chance if losing the advance reservation money. Perform for yourself a realGoogle maps view to see where you're staying. read more

Nicholas, Nicholas, Nicholas! He is the quintessential host, and more. He welcomed us every morning with a smile, and the best breakfast in the city. He uses his cooking skills to create a breakfast that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere in Taos (Or anywhere). Nicholas was very knowledgable of the area and gave us great tips on things to do. We had several conversations with him, and enjoyed each one. Now for the accommodations, beside the fantastic breakfast! Our room was incredibly spacious, complete with sitting room. It was clean and well stocked with essentials. The quaint setting made us feel like we were guests in an elegant historical home rather than a typical hotel. It was the highlight of our trip. We will definitely be back to enjoy more of what Palacio de Marquesa has to offer. read more

After a 12hour drive from Austin, Tx and arriving close to midnight, the hotel management was extremely accommodating. Sending instructions via text and after hours access to our check-in documentation made everything smooth and easy. We were charmed the next morning by the manager and chef personally delivering delicious breakfast (that we hand selected the night before) to our room. We could not have asked for a better stay. Not to mention on the room was great! Will be staying here anytime we are in the area. Thanks for everything! read more

Lauren will greet you with a warm smile, as she hands you the keys and educates you on the facility. The small details of this B&B are pleasing, and the wild flowers unfurling from their winter slumber are a dash of sunshine in the community garden. The rooms are simply wonderful and bright, all dedicated to fabulous historical women of Taos. Waking up to birds chirping, fresh air, and the coziness of the sheets, in front of the wild garden, is second to none. The breakfast was one of the best meals I've had away from home in a very long time, though I would have preferred the staff didn't ask for the breakfast basket prior to our departure. Chad is the GEM of the property! He makes your stay so welcomed, comfortable and offers top-notch service at Palacios de Marquesa. My mother and I felt like royalty during our weekend retreat. Although there were other guests, Chad ensured we had absolutely everything needed and took time out of his schedule to chat with us at length. Our breakfast was served in "The Matriarch" and delivered as promised, on time! Excellent meals prepared by Luis, and Guadalupe and Sativa's housekeeping was spot-on. My mother has allergies and never experienced any issues with allergens or room cleanliness. Outstanding restaurant and local area recommendations of places to visit. The Palacio is THE "must-visit" B+B in Taos that will steep you in beauty, history and the rich stories of the women artists of Taos - along with wonderful service and comfort provided by the manager Asia and her amazing team. The Palacio is a perfect landing place to discover the treasures of Taos. The property is charming and elegant - charged with delightful, layered gardens from every vantage point. The eight rooms are themed with the early artists of Taos - Mabel Dodge, Agnes Martin, Dorothy Brett, Millicent Rogers, Gene Kloss, Martha Reed and our room - Georgia O'Keefe. The massive cottonwoods that surround and cover the property provide a cool, powerful and enchanting feeling to the place. Lauren greeted us upon our arrival, with a great welcome and introduction to the B+B and the town. Our 'Icon' room was a very romantic room - well appointed with Georgia O'Keeffe theme, a majestic four poster bed with the signature silver steer head in the center, a romantic faux-fireplace, a large bath with marble floors, large screen TV, fast WiFi and the most beautiful garden outside our room. We had a breakfast delivered to our garden table (you can dine in the main room as well) - amazing french-press coffee, the most delicious fritatta ever (order this !!) and a fruit bowl with fresh mint sprinkled on top. Asia provided some great guidance on where to go, what to see in our limited 2-day stay - and she knows her stuff, has a great team, is very thoughtful and quite delightful to speak with. The rooms make an interesting spot for small groups of travelers, there are two rooms that share a private patio, a four (I think) rooms that share a delightful garden and fire pit/fountain and the rest are single rooms with a private garden. As an aside, we traveled here from Trinidad on our way to Santa Fe in our electric vehicle (Tesla), and while it appears a mile-sapping trip - we made it with miles to spare, and Asia allowed us easy access to 110V charging, and is now looking into regular EV charging capability. This place is part of a Heritage B+B collection, which offers guests a 15% discount at certain places in Taos. One of two B+B's west of the Mississippi we have ever been to. The Palacio de Marquesa is a beautifully quaint B&B, although they call themselves a boutique inn, located in a tranquil area of Taos, NM within walking distance of the Taos Plaza. The staff is warm, welcoming and very friendly. They want to ensure you have a fantastic stay, definitely know what to do and where to go and give you a discount card good at "Local Treasures" in Taos. The B&B pays homage to women artists of Taos. We stayed in the Matriarch Suite which honors author and artist Mabel Dodge Luhan. The room has a separate study or library, with quite a collection of books, backgammon, chess, a small refrigerator and a fire place. The bedroom was quite ness with a very comfortable bed. This suite has it's own patio off the bedroom, but the yard needs a bit of work (which is planned) to fully enjoy this amenity. Several of the rooms (I'm not sure if it is all of them) share a quaint and serene garden courtyard. The breakfast was simply amazing. My wife and I both ordered the frittata (spinach, mushrooms and feta) - which is simply wonderful and a must have. My wife had the breakfast potatoes which were perfectly cooked and very tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed a fresh fruit bowl garnished with a sprig of fresh mint. For your morning coffee, you'll be rewarded with a delicious French Press. If you are staying in this lovely town, The Palacio de Marquesa is a reasonably priced option which is welcoming, serene and a wonderful place to stay. read more

Stayed at PdM from NYE through 02JAN20. The hotel itself was absolutely gorgeous. Shaun Preece is the host, and really emphasized the importance of the history of the property. It was an effortless process to check in, and the room we stayed in (The Illuminator) could not have been nicer. During our stay, Shaun bent over backwards to make everything enjoyable for us. From restaurant advice to breakfast service, he is truly the best host I have ever met. When we had an mechanical issue with our room, the property El Monte Sagrado (sister to the PdM) held a room for us and hosted us on our second night for the same rate. Other hotels should take note of how this property operates. The guest is truly the top priority, and you'll feel that way the whole time you stay. Thanks Shaun!! read more

This was a cozy B&B. We stayed in the modernist, a cozy room with chimney, large beautiful bathroom and shower. Breakfast was included and delivered to our room in a basket--my favorite was the French press coffee (best I've had!). Staff was helpful and pleasant. It is about a 10 minute walk to the plaza. The only thing I would change would be layout of the rooms and door (which can't be changed) for a bit more security. Overall a very unique place! P.s. There was a "gratuity" envelope in the room, which I felt was kind of tacky. read more

The is an upscale looking place, single story with a gravel parking lot. We stayed in their largest room with two queen beds. It was accessed from a glass door off a patio with an old fashioned key. The room was very attractive. It had a huge, luxurious white marble bathroom with steam shower and a huge jetted tub. The bathroom was stunning. The beds were on the soft side with white covers and pillowtop mattress pads. There was also a roomy glass front refrigerator as well as a coffee maker and floor fan. The hotel does not have AC and our room only had one small window that could open for fresh air. Heat came from a gas fireplace. The front door did not have a screen and I was surprised to find a mosquito in the room after leaving the door open. The staff is very helpful. We were asked what time we wanted our breakfast. Most guests have their breakfast delivered to their room or there is a lovely dining table off the kitchen. This does not appear to be the kind of B&B where guests are encouraged to mingle together. Its an easy walk to town on road without sidewalks with a mixed group of lovely houses and not so lovely ones.. If I were to stay at Palacio de Marguesa again I would bring my own coffee . Both the in room coffee and the coffee made by the kitchen was of the light brown see thru variety. The breakfast was great but what I really want when I get up is some robust coffee. read more

I had the pleasure of spending a quick two-night stay at the Palacio de Marquesa with a friend for a short weekend in Taos, in April. The stay was really lovely. Our accommodations were spacious, clean and very comfortable. We stayed in the only two-queen room at the inn. It also had a small breakfast nook and a working fireplace - very lovely. Our bathroom was really a treat, with a large soaking tub and an awesome steam shower. The Palacio itself is quite charming and tasteful. I even spent time reading in the comfy lobby in front of the fire. Our host, Mark Gates, was great - courteous, attentive, friendly. He made us feel very welcome and took care of one tiny issue in our room immediately and to our complete satisfaction. Breakfast was included with our room each morning, and it was truly satisfying - complete, delicious, well-presented, with multiple options -- all equally good. My son and I stayed for a couple of nights late in ski season and were the only guests on our visit. The Palacio is absolutely lovely, with tastefully decorated rooms and beautiful common areas. Mark was a superb host, thoughtful, anticipatory, warm and just a fantastic chef - making us a lovely breakfast each morning. His quiet, friendly style is a perfect fit for the relaxed and elegant facility. The Palacio is a lovely oasis in Taos, and we'd love to come back to see it in the summer. read more

My wife and I stayed here one night and we really loved it! We would definitely recommend/ go back ourselves. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is I booked our trip for a Saturday night and the woman helping over the phone said that she got us the Suite and that she would send over a confirmation email. Well I never got that email so I called the next day and was told I have a reservation for Friday. Well the woman helping me was very kind and changed it to Saturday but put us in a different room. I also didn't like that they leave tip envelopes. I did want to tip but I was not sure how much to give in that situation plus you are already paying a lot just to stay there. read more

We loved this small and quaint hotel/B&B! First time in Taos and it was a very special occasion--our engagement!--we stayed in the Georgia O'Keefe suite which was perfect for a romantic weekend. The grounds and overall atmosphere reminded me of Italy in a way.....rustic yet comfortable and beautiful at the same time. Our check in host was really nice and explained everything and the property manager Asia was fun to talk with as well as very smart, knowledgeable, and accommodating. She gave us several great suggestions for the next phase of our trip up to Durango which was much appreciated. We will be back again in the Fall for sure. read more

We stayed in The Romantic room, which felt like a studio apartment: spacious and sunlit, with a fireplace and eating area, where you can have breakfast delivered.
