Loose outlets, TV and clock could not stay plugged in
    Jennise H.

I stayed at the Inn on The Rio in November of 2019. I'm writing this review to warn people to not stay here as my mother and I felt threatened, unsafe, and ultimately very uncomfortable throughout our stay. Our first interaction was with the owner, Julie Calahane who was responsible for our check-in. There was a small confusion about whether or not the room was pre-paid since it was booked through a third party. Within seconds of us attempting to resolve this confusion, she began yelling at us, "YOU DIDN'T PAY FOR THE ROOM!" This was the beginning of several minutes of verbal abuse towards me and my mother. I'll list below some of the other things she said so you can get an idea of what this was like. ·      "You are ridiculous people" ·      "You need to learn some manners" ·      "You need to teach your daughter some manners" ·      "How many of you are there?" (2) "That's it, who else is with you, what are their names?" ·      "I've been running this business for 24 years, don't tell me how to do my job" (we didn't) As I said, this went on for several minutes, and at the end we were actually scared for our safety. In retrospect I should have just left and found another place to stay but in the moment I was so shocked by Julie's behavior that I wasn't thinking rationally. At this point we've checked in, paid, and endured the yelling. Upon getting to our room (room #2) we realized there is no wifi, the TV doesn't work, the outlets are so loose that the clock could not be plugged in to the wall, the walls themselves were cracked, the shower was tiny and in serious need of an upgrade. We were appalled given the pictures that we had seen on Priceline which made this place look like a Desert Oasis, not the hole that it actually is. I'll attach some pictures that I took during the stay. The final insult to injury was that I could barely get out of the driveway without scraping the bottom of my car as the threshold was cracked and full of potholes. I'll add that I did not sleep that night because I was so shaken up by the experience with the owner. From the moment we walked in to the moment we pulled out of the driveway our stay was abysmal. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy. Please do not stay here if you're going to Taos.

Adorable and rustic repurposed motel, delicious breakfast! And DOG FRIENDLY! I decided to move here with my pup after our stay at an AirBNB during my visit to Taos, the pricing is reasonable and the rooms are small, comfortable and old fashioned. It is only about two miles from 'downtown' Taos/the plaza but is right underneath the start of the mountains off Highway 64, I enjoyed the views in the neighborhood and our morning hikes on nearby trails. Easy access to mountain bike trails in Taos Canyon (South Boundary etc) and Divisadero Trailhead, about one more mile up on Highway 64.

Great place, clean and comfortable. Hot tub, pool, outdoor sitting area and a homemade continental breakfast.

This place is truly a hidden gem! Tucked back a little behind the town, this charming inn is a perfect place to relax. Our room was cute and well decorated, our bed was extremely comfy. In the morning our hosts made us a beautiful breakfast including homemade bread, breakfast tacos, fruit, and lots of tea/coffee/juice, all served in a cozy dinning area with a fireplace. They are also owners of an big handsome husky named Storm who mostly sleeps in the front room. There is also a hot tub, though we did not end up using it. Plenty of parking is available. Overall a great stop on our New Mexico roadtrip!

Lovely Bed and breakfast in the outskirts of Taos…read more We arrive at this lovely B&B and Gould the grounds to be very beautiful. Has a real south west vibe going on which continued into our room. The rustic charm is everywhere from the Spanish tile bathroom to the spacious bedroom. There are chair on the front porch to sit and enjoy the court yard. Our room had an open but private back porch with more chairs. We enjoyed some coffee here before heading to breakfast, Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nga was amazing. Wished we were able to stay longer. I would give this place 7 stars ( 2 bonus stars)

I really wanted to leave a glowing 5-star review because, when we first arrived I was obsessed with…read morethis place. My boyfriend, our dog, and I ended up booking this B&B last minute after leaving another accommodation early because it had bugs (including a camel spider in our bed ). We found this place online at resnexus.com as well Yelp and stalked their website, loved the photos, read the reviews, and immediately felt relieved when we arrived. The Piñon Casita was adorable, the property itself is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts seemed friendly. For the first hour or so I was thinking, Thank goodness, we finally found the place. Unfortunately, things slowly started going downhill from there. The first night, the fireplace wouldn't work. We messaged the hosts, sent photos, tried troubleshooting it ourselves, and eventually just gave up and accepted we'd be having a fireplace-free evening. It wasn't the end of the world, and we figured hey, stuff happens. The next day they came and fixed it, which we appreciated. Then came the washer. One of the reasons we were excited about this casita was because it included a washer and dryer. Earlier in the week we'd already spent time at a laundromat, so we were looking forward to doing laundry before our 8-hour drive home. We started a load and got a 4E error less than halfway through the wash. We looked it up ourselves, we tried troubleshooting, we messaged the hosts, we followed their suggestions, and we tried different cycles. At this point I felt less like a guest and more like the on-call appliance technician. They eventually told us the washer had been fixed while we were out hiking, so we were excited to finally do laundry. Spoiler alert it wasn't fixed. Same error. We tried again later that evening. Same issue. Then around 11 PM the washer completely shut off and locked our wet laundry inside. We messaged the hosts again because we were supposed to leave the next morning after breakfast and start an 8-hour drive home. The response that frustrated us most wasn't even the broken washer, it was being told that because we hadn't specifically mentioned on the phone that we intended to use the washer and dryer, (And she said that they don't accept same day bookings, but made an exception for us, though that was never communicated nor was this a policy written anywhere on their website) compensation wouldn't be considered. Respectfully, if an amenity is advertised, guests shouldn't have to announce ahead of time that they plan on using it. That's like asking if the shower works before booking because you intend to shower. We weren't asking for a huge refund. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. Even a small gesture of goodwill $50 to $100 off the stay would have gone a long way and would have shown that they understood the inconvenience. Instead, we paid full price despite having a fireplace that didn't work the first night and a washer/dryer that never functioned properly during our stay. To add to that, there were also multiple spiders and bugs inside the casita. I understand this is the countryside and bugs exist. Trust me, I get it. But after literally leaving our previous accommodation because of bugs, it wasn't exactly what we hoped to deal with again. The next morning our laundry was still trapped in the washer. Eventually my boyfriend ended up figuring out the breaker issue himself after staff told us where the breaker panel was located. We rushed to get our laundry spun and dried before checkout, but they still weren't completely dry. So instead of leaving relaxed after a nice getaway, we ended up starting our 8-hour drive home later than planned with damp laundry shoved into a trash bag. The frustrating part is that this review could have been completely different. The property is beautiful, the breakfast was genuinely fantastic, the casita itself is cute and cozy. And honestly, if the hosts had simply acknowledged the inconvenience and offered even a small amount of compensation, I probably would've happily overlooked most of this. Instead, we left feeling like the burden of fixing the problems fell on us while still paying full price for amenities we couldn't properly use. It's a lovely property, but unfortunately the way these issues were handled means we won't be returning.

Richard had a letter attached to the wood frame entrance to our accommodations welcoming us to the property. He came right over to introduce himself, show us around the property, and even picked a few things from the garden for us to enjoy during our stay. We settled in and enjoyed the cheese, crackers, olives and snacks that he had on the table along with a bottle of wine that was delicious. The next morning, Richard was on our doorstep with warm pear and walnut scones that he made from the pear tree on the property. Our little cottage was perfect. Filled with local art work, bright colors and the textures of the Southwest. We had a lovely living room, dining area with a banquette, kitchen stocked with everything we needed. Upstairs was the bedroom and bathroom with a large deck off the bedroom and stunning views of the mountains surrounding Taos. Everything was spotlessly clean, warm, inviting and cozy. We relaxed, enjoyed and savored every moment we were here. I even used the little meditation hut next to the creek for my morning meditations. It was the most peaceful spot. In the refrigerator we found 6 fresh eggs that Richard had left from the chickens on the property. We thoroughly enjoyed them. Richard was friendly, kind, giving and the most gracious host and a wonderful innkeeper. If you ever find yourself traveling to Taos, you must stay.
