Found this spot to stop for breakfast and it was a great find! We were immediately greeted by two friendly staff. They have yummy pastries on display but the breakfast menu has tons of savory options. We ordered H Street Block which is a blueberry french toast casserole. It was the perfect size. It looks small, but it was very filling and just enough to get my day started. It's a bit pricey for the size but since that was the portion I wanted, I wasn't too disappointed. One of the workers mentioned they do have kids menu options, but they didn't have the printed kids menus available, so if you don't see them, just ask when you are ordering. The Champions Breakfast platter was a great choice for our kids to share. It was one of the better fruit bowls I've seen, with a variety of fresh berries and oranges. The place is pretty small inside, but we were there on a Thursday morning so it was no issue finding a parking spot or a table to sit. I appreciate how kid friendly they are, even bringing kid size water cups with lids, and there are even some children's books on the shelf in the back. Such a cute little spot, I would have never known about it if I wasn't looking on Yelp for breakfast places in this area.
The service was great, I ordered online, walked in and my order was ready to go. It's usually so busy, I avoid it because I don't have the time to wait during a 30 minute break. I ordered a regular coffee which was so fresh and perfect. My food, I ordered the Benny on a Bun, that's the wrong sandwich for a on the go morning. I didn't think to order the hollandaise on the side so my bread was totally soggy. The bacon was extremely salty. I'm not sure what brand it was but it was not good to me. I couldn't pick it up to eat it because I was driving. It was already soggy and wet to begin with, not the restaurants fault but I would say I would not order that for a togo order. It was not easy to eat, very messy and again, I didn't care for the bacon.
YUM DUDE. My bf had the blt, i had the buttermilk biscuit with homemade jam, and both were absolutely lovely! It's a small shop, and was very busy, so we came back after the lunch rush. The staff welcomed us back and were so friendly. Food came out quickly, and, again, just so delicious. Will be returning !
***Update*** Since I work as an Uber driver (one who attended culinary school) I always find myself eating in unfamiliar locales. Modesto is NOT close to home for me. After discovering Lucille several years ago, I will now willingly take rides far from home, although the fares sometimes dry up in the Central Valley. I have been to Lucille twice by myself. I brought my Godmother once. I recommend Lucille to everyone who I drive when they tell me that they live in or near Modesto. Today I brought my boyfriend and my dog, who lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was Saturday, super crowded and my dog was being super reactive with another dog across the way. It was super embarrassing and, although I am sure that it stressed out the staff, they were calm, kind and attentive. I was stressed and shrill, my dog was being a grade-A A-hole. I'm sorry Lucille! The beet salad at this place features fresh mint and I always get it. The chocolate cookie with flaky malden salt is very yummy. Their house coffee is very high quality and doesn't taste gross and burned. I didn't love my soup today. The bar was set pretty high with the carrot soup I had another time. Honestly, it was a small detail and this place is so much better than 90% of restaurants. They sent me another chocolate cookie. That was never necessary. I love you Lucille! Thanks for the extra care and the extra cookie! You really deserve a larger building because you are awesome!
I loved the ambiance of this brunch place. It is a pay at counter and seat yourself type of restaurant but the system works well and the staff is very helpful about moving tables around to accommodate your party. The recommended special this weekend was a fermented pancake with cinnamon butter and malt maple syrup that paired so well with our benny on brioche buns. Great portion sizes and super friendly staff.
It's been a while since I have been here, but I was reminded how much I love Lucille! It is such a charming spot with so much attention to detail. The service goes above and beyond! Everyone has a great big smile on their face and is so friendly! Once again, the coffee hit the spot, and the food was delightful. Their portions are huge! My boys tried their blueberry "soda" which was a hit. It was so refreshing! We spoke to the owner and found out the meaning behind the name, and it was a very sweet story. Lucille is named after her husband's grandmother. P.S. the biscuits and raspberry jam is to die for!!
My daughter wanted to try out this wonderful restaurant after looking at some of their blueberry French toast. I am glad we gave it a try. Everything we had was delicious. I had the early bird sandwich and the bread was sensational, very friendly for this lent season that's coming up. Will definitely be getting that again. My husband had their champion breakfast and he added on the cajon potatoes and that entire combo was amazing. We all tried the potatoes which were fantastic, they were herb heavy in the best possible way, not salty but were packed with flavor. The coffee was great. The people there were very nice and attentive. I highly recommend this establishment, it's small but very much worth the trip.

I have had the breakfast sandwich, the south x southwest and the BLT and let me tell you that BLT is like no other BLT you will EVER have! You absolutely will not catch me ordering a BLT ever except at Lucille. This is absolutely the BEST BLT you will ever eat. Their standard ice latte is also the latte of my dreams it is sooo good I just wish they made a bigger size I swear I could drink at least 2! Also the whole staff at Lucille is so friendly and nice I haven't ever had a bad experience in the many times I have gone
Had a nice breakfast with my mom here on a Monday morning. Found street parking right out front and was greeted kindly by the staff. We both got a South x Southwest breakfast sandwich. Mine was kind of falling apart as soon as it was put down so I used a knife and fork. It was pretty tasty! We were also provided with hot sauce for an extra kick of spice. This is a really cute spot with a casual feel. Perfect place to catch up with a friend over coffee. I'd be interested in coming back to try more from Lucille's.

I live in San Francisco, but I'm from the Central Valley, so I pass by Modesto every few months when visiting my family. My friend from Modesto told me about this spot, and I immediately wanted to try it. I actually planned my drive around this pit stop, which was just a short detour off the 99. I ordered a biscuit with fried eggs and dear Lord, that biscuit was amazing, and so was the jam! The fried eggs were cooked perfectly and especially delicious with the hot sauces they had to offer. My brother got an egg sandwich on a brioche bun and he still can't stop talking about how good it was. He was particularly impressed with the brioche bun. We also got the blueberry french toast to go, which I didn't anticipate traveling very well, but it did and holy shit, it was fan-freaking-tastic when I ate it that evening. I can't even fathom how incredible it must be if eaten fresh. This place was so cute inside and clearly had an intentional aesthetic direction. There was a cute outdoor seating area in the front where I could have my dog with me, which is a huge plus. The service was top-notch and the food was ready lickety-split. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. I HIGHLY recommend this spot!!! read more

[Lucille] -- [Modesto, CA] Final True 5 Rating: 3.76 /5 1. The Core Offering (Food/Product): 4 / 5 I got the cortado, and it was good; it was a little sour, might be a little under-extracted. But looking at the menu, there were some really nice options. 2. Execution & Consistency (Service): 4 / 5 The service was nice. i dd like how the service works. They give you a number and bring your order to you. 3. Environmental Design (Vibe): 3.3 / 5 I thought the vibe was nice, but it was busy when I got here. There was hardly a place to sit, and it was a little loud. which is actually great for the business! recomend to come when it's less busy if you're planning to do work. most likely early in the morning or at noon. 4. Attention to Detail (The Little Things): 4 / 5 One thing I really liked was how they brought a full glass of water with my drink. There was also music playing, which I did like. It was just a little louder, but a great playlist! The place seemed really clean as well. Latte with homemade cinnamon syrup was delicious and strong. Early bird breakfast sandwich on focaccia bread with over easy egg add was on point. Service with smile here is a permanent treat. You have to wait for a nice spot though to sit down. They have books as well. read more

The sandwich originally comes with lingüista, or you can always substitute .. My FAVORITE breakfast spot if you're looking for delicious breakfast or even lunch sandwiches! Service is amazing every single time! read more

We found this little jewel of a breakfast/ lunch place . Small but very cute and airy . We ordered our Bennie Sandwich open faced . A order of Cajun Potatoes, Coffee and a OJ at the counter . They give you a Number and serve it at your table . Or you can get to go . The bread the sandwich was on, was so soft and fresh. Eggs pouched perfectly. Since we had sandwiches open faced. I think I would ask for more hollandaise on the side next time . The potatoes were nicely seasoned and crunch - center nice and moist. Nice fresh Coffee . This is such a cute place! The food was amazing! We ordered the Champion Breakfast platter with over medium eggs, sausage and sourdough bread (5/5), and another champion breakfast with over easy eggs, bacon and wheat bread (5/5). Yum! For bevs, we ordered a London fog with a shot of espresso (5/5) and a hot Carmel latte (5/5). Perfect! The service was good. It's a BUSY place, so a little challenging to find a seat. You place your order at the register and are given a number. When your order is ready they bring your food and drinks to the table. Overall, great food & super cute place! We'll be back to try their lunch menu. read more
It's been a few months since we came but today on an overcast Monday morning we decided to pop in. They were busy but service was excellent. They messed up on my wife's request for no avocado on her fresh and fresh and quickly made her another one which she loved. A few seconds later they brought us a complimentary coffee cake which was delicious. I had the OMG BEC and what I believe to be the butter spray on top of the brioche bun is just decadent! Cajun potatoes have to be the best breakfast potatoes ever, even better than the ones I make, and mine are bomb!! I have to figure out how they make these.... Crispy, flavorful and soft inside, just perfect. Had a latte and wife had their drip coffee. Simple and delicious. read more

This place is great smaller very cosy and cute atmosphere with first come first serve indoor & outdoor seating. You order at the front counter and your food is delivered to your seat. The staff is warm, welcoming and friendly. I ordered a Freshy fresh breakfast sandwich and added over easy eggs and bacon and a large iced vanilla latte. They were both great, esthetically and Nom nommy (delicious) lol, the different flavors in the sandwich were refreshing and different which made it really standout. I sat at the bar, the wait wasn't long at all. And before I left I ordered a large dirty pink chai lattee to go. Also amazing The mixed vintage plates are adorable and they also have a great wine selection to grab on the way out. This is a great busy spot and I would definitely recommend and will be back! read more

Felt like fall a bit in Modesto even though it was 75 degrees. Though downtown is not much to look at there are way too many bail bonds within the same block. The food is amazing and so is the service. Yes it's pricy, but what isn't now? It's a nice treat you can give yourself every now and then. The restaurant is certainly a delicious treat to enjoy. read more

Try the champion platter if we haven't done so already. Especially, if you're hungry. It's a huge platter, especially if you add the potatoes . Pink drink was yummy, and definitely different than any drink I've had before. I hope when it's warmer over the summer, I'll get a chance to sit outside. The tables out there have more space than the ones inside. I have come here a couple times, and I always come to the same thought: they need to expand their floor space. They have these tiny white tables for those sitting in the back hallway. I hope that one day they're able to purchase the space next to them, because the line of people from the counter to the door is so crowded, it takes away the small town cafe-feel. Seating is first come first serve so once you see a spot, claim it first then check out the menu. read more

Small but mighty! It was packed when we got there about 9:30 but we found a table. Staff was nice, food was good. Service was quick. We'll definitely go back. Counter service. Order your food and they bring it to you. I ordered the Champion Breakfast Platter with poached eggs and added their avocado spread. The spread could use some salt, it was heavy on the lemon but good regardless read more

Cute little place! Sat on the table top. Service was fast and attentive! Which made my experience more enjoyable and memorable. I got their "Benny on Bun" which is their version of egg Benedict . It was good, but for me the bun was a little off but not too bad. Overall, totally worth the price and experience. Definitely recommend this place! read more
Quaint bistro like atmosphere with five quality food. Fresh and made to order with a smile every time. You would be missing out on an amazing experience if you don't stop here. Coffee, tea? Very nice place in the heart of downtown Modesto. I was actually surprised that the place wasn't too big. Very limited seating. Me and my son got lucky and snagged a table outside since it was a very nice morning! All the workers were very nice and had great positive attitudes. Unfortunately they ran out of biscuits which I was looking forward to, guess that gives me a reason to come back. Food was great. My son loved the flavor on his toast that had cream cheese, jam, granola and berries. My sandwich was also very delicious! Would recommend for anyone looking for a great breakfast/brunch! read more
