Lucky Corner has a pleasant layout with lots of room for a full house while feeling spread out and not cramped. Overall more like a 3.5* experience but happy to round up. What we got: Grilled Beef Rolls - 3.5* I loved the dipping sauce but thought the rolls were just fine. My partner enjoyed them a lot more. Basil with thick rice noodles (chicken) - 4* great flavour! There was plenty of chicken and noodles, though the later was stuck together in an big clump that I had to break up. Pad Thai (combination) - 3* my partner didn't love the sweetness and thought the meat was a bit overcooked. My family and I have been going to Lucky Corner for many years, since they were first located on North Market Street. The food and service has always been fine, but my experience last night ordering through Uber Eats was so poor, that I won't patronize them again. The food took more than an hour for delivery, which I expected; it was a Friday night and I knew they were busy. However, we ordered Crispy Tamarind Chicken as an entree and they forgot to include the sauce with the vegetables which goes on the chicken. Without it, it's just a pile of fried chicken. I tried calling the restaurant, but more than 15 calls went directly to voicemail and I couldn't leave a message because their voicemail was full. This has happened before when we have tried to call in a take out order. When they finally answered, the woman said she would check with the kitchen and then told me they could remake the sauce, but I would have to come pick it up because they were so busy. By this time, it was at least 45 minutes since the chicken had been cooked and it would have taken me at least 40 minutes to go pick up the sauce, so I refused. She said they would not refund me; I had to complain to Uber Eats. They know they are going to be busy on Friday nights; lack of staff is a continuing problem which never seems to be addressed and they need to upgrade their phone system and answer their phone. The kitchen staff is sloppy; there is no excuse for forgetting one of the main components of a dish. It would have been nice if they had at least apologized. As much as my husband likes this place, there are plenty of other great options in Frederick and they are where I'll be eating in the future. read more

Duck Dumplings (4) $9.25: these were definitely tasty and still crispy from their pan sear, the dumplings are filled with duck meat, cilantro, scallions, and shiitake mushrooms. Green Papaya Salad $13.95: I usually get the papaya salad, but this last time that I ordered it, I felt like it was a little different. Normally there's never pork in my papaya salad, but this time there was also it did taste a bit different. Not sure if I liked it as much. Beef at the Corner $17.95 (during dinner): I got this extra spicy and they definitely delivered on that. This was my first time trying this dish and I thought the beef was cooked beautifully in their sauce. They had broccoli on the side and it came with rice as well. Beef with Chili and Lemongrass $17.95 (during dinner): this is usually my go to dish because I do enjoy the aromatics from the lemongrass and the spiciness from the chili. The beef is always tender, and the sauce is flavorful. Service here is always good even though for the most part we order takeout. They do charge a 3.5% fee if you pay with your credit card, but if you pay with cash, they give you a 4% discount. Their lunch hours are Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 3 PM. They also have a Pho and have vegetarian options as well. This is a family owned restaurant that is located in the Westview Promenade. They also have a full bar inside. For the $18.95 Lunch Special, you get 3 shrimps, some gray-colored, cheap crab meat, 1 small pc smelly sea cucumber, the vegetables smell moldy, and rice. Nice decor and excellent servers, but Lucky Corner has the worst fly problem we've encountered in many years. At times, there were multiple flies on the rim of our drinking glasses, rice, and plates. We were constantly swatting at the flies, which killed our festive mood. We mentioned the problem to our server. She acknowledged there had been several complaints. Ultimately, when flies are that bad, it doesn't matter that our lunch was good. We finally had to place paper napkins over our food to try to keep the flies out. Our server said she would talk to the manager, but we ran into this fly issue at this same eatery two years ago, so we are now avoiding Lucky Corner. This is not just an issue of atmosphere. We happened upon this Lucky Corner Vietnamese place today. Guess what - it is NOT on a corner! However, the rest of the place is an A+ in my book. The service was good, the atmosphere was lively and interesting. Most importantly, the pho was really, really good. The broth was rich and complex. There was a ton of beef in the soup. We came in with very low expectations. Lucky Corner over-performed on every single aspect of our dining experience. Apparently, we are not the only ones who recognize the quality of this place. There is one entire wall with "Best of..." awards and magazine articles that give Lucky Corner very high ratings! Everyone knows that this restaurant is a keeper! I wholeheartedly recommend Lucky Corner to anyone reading this review. I will probably make the long drive to Frederick just to eat some fantastic pho very soon!!! read more

I discovered Lucky Corner a few months ago, and ever since, I've eaten here at least once a week. Now, I must admit that I was a bit skeptical at first, as I wanted to find a good pho spot in Frederick, and since this was a full on restaurant, not just a pho joint, I wasn't sure that the pho would be that special.. boy, was I wrong! .. the pho is great here, consistently! .. and the serving sizes are huge. I typically order to go pho and I can easily make two meals out of my order. I always get the Pho Tai and the broth is very good and the quality of the meat is superb! I also get their summer rolls, in which their sauce is the best I've ever tasted in my entire life. I've dined in a couple times too, and the restaurant is nice and clean and the service is great! I took off one star because sometimes they get minor things incorrect with the carry out orders. Example: I usually ask for no onions, just for preference, and I don't always get that. Something to keep in mind if you have a true allergy. I've also ordered a kids fried rice for my 1 yr old that was a bit too spicy, which i believe was a one off thing, as it hasn't happened again. Let me start this review by saying how great the service was. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they came to check on the table at the right time, which is very important. atmosphere of the restaurant was mixed of modern western and asian flavor, interesting in a good way. Even though the restaurant's name says authentic Vietnamese, but their menu consists of Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese foods selections. It's not a bad fusion as long as everything is tasty and tastes as they should. This time around, we only ordered Pho, chicken skewers, spring rolls, summer rolls, fried rice, mango sticky rice, and ube cheesecake, therefore cannot be certain of the authenticity on other cuisine, will return to try more items on the menu. Based on what we ordered, everything was delicious. Chicken skewers were juicy; tofu summer roll were small but fresh made; spring rolls were good; both house special pho and beef brisket pho were delicious and came with a good amount of meat. Mango sticky rice was good in portion and taste, especially the green color rice truly brought out some appetite. Best Vietnamese food around! All you really need to know is that the place seems to always be busy. We didn't have to wait for a table but there weren't man left. Extensive menu, very good, friendly service and, yes, delicious food. I got the caramelized pork in hot pot which came with a size of steamed veggies and rice. While at first I wondered about the flavor of the steamed veggies it was the perfect complement to the flavorful pork! My friend got the Chicken with Chili and Lemongrass. I visited on Sunday lunch. I got Tom Yam soup with chicken and Beef at the Corner, they were generous portions and tasty. My husband got Beef with Chili and Lemongrass, it was also good and a huge portion. I think they should reduce the portion and price. Both dishes were nearly $20 each and we had leftovers which is almost another meal size. The service was great, the servers were attentive and kept refilling the drinks. I would come back for another dishes, all foods looked good. Their happy hour deal ($4 beer) and daily drink deals seemed good too. Be proactive when you have a food allergy. One of us is allergic to shrimp and ordered veggie spring rolls. They gave us the pork/shrimp spring rolls instead. It's hard to tell what the filling is visually and we only realized after having a taste. We wanted to go home immediately to take allergy medication and prevent a possible emergency. The waitress was kind, apologetic, and concerned for us. Only the spring rolls were comped. We still had to pay for the rest of the meal. We've gone here for years and were never served the wrong dish that we're allergic to until now. All in all, this happened because we received the wrong dish, but there are things that can be done to prevent this. Always let your waiter know if you have an allergy, and take a close look at the ingredients and your food. Keep your medication nearby, and tell them you need to leave ASAP if this happens to you. (Be clear about how urgent it is, because it might take some time to get the bill.) Luckily the allergic reaction turned out to be mild, but it was very alarming because the person I was dining with has had a very severe reaction before. She still wants to eat there again, but I guess we'll skip the spring rolls. read more

Well unfortunately, I've given up on these guys. We had a bad experience last time (see previous review). They never submitted our order. We drove 30 minutes to get there, then they told me an hour to get our food. We gave up, BUT I wanted to give them another try, since I LOVE their Mayer Pho. We tried calling them on Sunday after 6pm to place a take out order. I kept getting put through to a full mailbox. When I finally got through, they asked if I could hold a minute. Well - I waited on hold over 15 minutes (see photo). I tried calling back again and couldn't get through. I don't understand why it's so hard to place an order or get an order, once you've placed it. I understand places can be understaffed, but we got frustrated and called Kittiwatt (awesome Thai just down the road from them) and got fantastic food and service. They were super busy but answered the phone, didn't keep me on hold and had our order ready on time and it was accurate. They also threw in a free order of Potstickers. And when I walked in, every table was full and the take out tables had several orders on them. Lucky Corner needs a better system and until they get it, I'm not going to frustrate myself trying to give them business. read more

Brief history lesson: This place originally used to be in a charming little building on the north side of Market Street. That was probably my initiation into Vietnamese food, or at least close to it. That restaurant added a second location here, and then somehow lost the original location, a complicated business which got some coverage from local news. The old location is under new management, so I think at least that this is the closest thing to Lucky Corner that still exists. The dish I ordered is a tad confusing, it's tofu with salted peppers (as opposed to salt and pepper), although either label would have been accurate, as it is a strong salt and pepper flavor but there were some jalapenos as well. The ginger is what really makes it. They have a good size vegetarian menu (which marks which dishes can be made vegan, though some of the ones that can't are headscratchers). It's overall a net positive. This location lacks the charm of the original, but it's good food. read more
