My mom and I visited San Juan Capistrano recently and we decided to get gelato before boarding the train. The staff are so welcoming and kind. You can truly feel their genuineness. That was the first thing, secondly there is something for everyone. Gelato, frozen yogurt, coffee, pastries and even sandwiches. The you f man who waited on me made good conversation with me and also mentioned telnet owned a clothing store next door. There are some cute little bistro tables inside and nice coffee shop decor. What I loved most is I noticed the music was faith based. And the I realized the shop is named 3:16 Bakery Shop, for the scripture passage John 3:16. It was a calm and uplifting environment. Sometimes stop at the 3:16 Bakery Shop to get something (always a honey bran muffin) to eat on the train. As everyone knows cakes on a train are better than snakes on a plane. The 3:16 Bakery Shop is around half a block from the Amtrak/Metrolink San Juan Capistrano station. Wednesday was a little different. I wandered in for a post-lunch gelato. The space is split between a gelato counter on one side and a coffee bar on the other. Noticing the Lavazza umbrellas out front sparked an idea--this place probably makes a great affogato. It wasn't on the menu, but I asked the barista and he immediately said yes. Easily one of the best affogatos I've had. Consider this your unofficial "secret menu" tip. What really made the visit memorable, though, was the service. The barista was a young guy who was genuinely warm, attentive, and engaging--something that feels increasingly rare and was a very welcome surprise. It seemed like they had a lot of dessert items to offer. The sample gelato did not taste like the real Italian gelato I've had so we passed on that. Some of the flavors were out for the frozen yogurt. The bakery items looked appealing. Small on the inside so it feels crowded with just a few people. Fair service. read more

In need of a coffee on my way to Mission San Juan Capistrano, I hopped right off the train and came across 3:16 Bakery Shop. The gentlemen working made a phenomenal cappuccino! I was surprised by the prices, which were about, if not cheaper than Starbucks, whose employees don't know how to even make a cappuccino most of the time. While I only stopped for a coffee, this location seemed to offer it all with coffee, gelato, frozen yogurt, and a variety of bakery items. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and in need of coffee or a sweet treat! read more

this cafe is tucked inside the historic San Juan Capistrano and it's the best place to go! Has the best gelato, coffee, frozen yogurt, and deserts! Since my hubby, my fur baby (a Yorkie), and I moved to South Orange County in the summer of 2021, we've been going to 3:16 Bakery Shop. We always stop by to get my favorite gelato flavor of lavender honey. This time around no lavender honey flavor gelato was available. Just recently, we passed by after lunch and had a large size of half of the hazelnut chocolate and reece pieces peanut butter gelato. While walking around the plaza taking my time while waiting before another place opens at 11, I wanted to get something small to satiate the hunger. I saw this bakery after checking the movie theatre out and they have a glass counter with so many varieties of cookies, cake slices, and baked goods that I wanted to try a few. There was a small line and I really only had to wait for a family in front of me who ordered drinks in addition to pastries. They have a frozen yogurt store next to it inside so it was a bit confusing but they are in separate sides of the store with shared table seating area. The cookies were priced by the pound (approx $20/lb), and the baked pastries are individually priced. They also serve coffee and beverages which they make to order, in addition there's a list of off menu items that sounded really good. My son picked the rainbow sprinkled cookies and I chose: A chocolate dipped Florentine cookie: crispy and chewy, chocolate melted real quick in the heat outside A Florentine sandwich with chocolate in the middle cookie: I actually didn't know it was a sandwich and ate one of them without the chocolate but had chocolate residue and then saw one with the entire chocolate in the middle. A checkered cookie: nice soft cookie And hazelnut cookie: made with chopped hazelnuts, crumbly and soft My son ate all of his two cookies, overall it was delicious, they also sell day old cookie batches at half price but wasn't able to see if it was pre-packed and sold out or you need to ask. Overall, we enjoyed the cookies, it was roughly $5 for our batch, hopefully we can come back and try the drinks and pastries. read more

I like this Bakery Shop. They sale Ice Cream and Yogurts too. Its more than just a bakery. Service and owners are cool. My girlfriend and I stopped here last weekend, and we enjoyed hanging out here eating ice cream. They have lots of different flavors too. I wanna become a regular here too. We went to the mission and had lunch and took. Walk down the street. This is clearly visible and it drew us in for gelato. We were greeted by friend staff behind counters. Offered us samples. Every samples was good but we settle on coffee flavor (forgot the name) and tiramisu. Single scoop is $5.99. The shop was clean and filled with Christian gifts. We enjoyed our treat outside table under umbrella. Would recommend stopping here next time you're in the area. read more

Always visit this shop after our diner date night. We love how late the shop stays open and usually take some bakery items to go and we always come here for desert to get the gelato. All gelato flavors are good and they will have special season flavors depending on the season and if you cannot make a decision they let you sample before deciding. We were waiting in line for over an hour at Heritage when I decided to take a quick stroll around the neighborhood. Found 3:16 Bakery and had a medium gelato to tie me over before our meal!The place was full but no line for gelato! The 2 servers were generous with their samples and helped me with the very hard decision of which flavors to choose! I wound up getting the spumoni and Creme brûlée. You can get gelato, frozen yogurt, and pastries, with coffee or tea. I decided on 2 scoops of gelato, strawberry and burgundy cherry. Only later I thought I should have tried lemon, the traditional flavor for Italian ice. There was only one guy helping customers today. While he was working on the bakery side, gelato customers had to wait, and vice versa. It is not a big shop but has good vibes. I would definitely come back to try other items. read more
