Stopped by here on the way to San Diego for a quick and simple lunch. Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't as good as I expected based on the advertising, and the tuna sandwich was a bit disappointing as well. I added peanut butter to the acai bowl for an extra $2, and that was probably the best part of the meal. There don't seem to be many good coffee options in this area, so I can see why this place does well. For me, though, it was just okay and probably not somewhere I would go out of my way to visit again. read more

We went to Dana Point Baby Beach last July 19,2026 and stopped by Coffee Importers Café nearby. The inside of the café was nice, but unfortunately, our experience wasn't the best. My friend and I ordered vanilla matcha drinks, but they didn't taste very good. The matcha had a strong, grassy taste, so we decided to order different drinks instead. The second drinks were okay, but nothing special. Unfortunately, the customer service was the biggest disappointment. My friend came back and asked for five paper plates. Since she is deaf, she was trying to communicate with the male employee by texting on her phone. Instead of being patient and understanding, he gave her an attitude and seemed upset with her. At one point, he yelled, "Just one paper plate!" We were very disappointed by the way she was treated, especially when she was simply trying to communicate. We hope the café can do better when it comes to treating all customers with kindness, patience, and respect. Because of this experience, we unfortunately won't be coming back. read more

Again, another over priced coffee shop for what you get they're somewhat in a "coffee desert" if you're on foot in the area though so it's not like you have many other options. Almost $20 for two vanilla lattes that were just whatever. My husband even had to go back and ask for more syrup because it was lacking in the flavor department. I'm starting to feel like I'm crazy because I feel like I've written this review for so many coffee shops lately... And it's not even the ice like super sweet coffee or anything crazy but I think I just can't believe the price that we've been paying for mediocre lattes these days. We found a table and enjoyed our beverages while watching the boats and people sail by. Another great experience. It came a little early on a Sunday. A little less crowds, but it tends to build up. Plenty of parking in the two lots away from the ocean Institute as well as street parking. Dog friendly patio. Today we just opted to get the cheeseburger, croissant, an order of biscuits and the harbor latte. Everything arrived quickly. We asked for the croissant and the biscuits to be warmed. The cheeseburger croissant was OK however, it lacked any filling to be honest. It was more of the size of a mini meatball. The biscuits were great as always. All of the pastries look delicious. I was thinking about getting the lemon pepper bagel, but next time. I probably would not order the cheeseburger croissant next time. I do like a savvy croissant. I probably would stick with the ham and cheese, etc.. They have a cute selection of doggy treats. Also at the register. read more

Went here today and got an iced harbor latte, biscuits and jam, coconut pineapple loaf, and a churro muffin. The churro muffin was a recommendation from the cashier, and he was spot on with his recommendation. My 7 year old ate it and wanted another one. The latte was delicious, with notes of caramel and vanilla. The coconut pineapple loaf was really good and had lots of coconut flavor, didn't get much pineapple, but it was good. The biscuits and jam was where it was at. So goood! The strawberry jam was really good and it was easy to eat as we were fishing. Will definitely be back! read more

My boyfriend took me here for breakfast on a Saturday.... perfect weather in July. It was warm, cool wind, great views when you seat outside. They have an umbrella at each table. My wife and I decided to try Coffee Importers in their new location. The good news: the outdoor seating (which is nicer than before) with the view of Dana Point Harbor is a top selling point. It's a really nice place to have a coffee and to enjoy the vibe and ambiance of the harbor. The coffee was good --- a solid cup of coffee. The service as before is good. The real draw though is the location. That's reason enough to return. (I didn't try the food on this visit but I will on a future visit.) read more

I so wanted to like this place, but have had a bad experience nearly every time I've visited at this location, and the previous location, which includes about 12 visits over the years (always giving them another chance). I went in again yesterday at 3:55 and approached a female employee standing at a register and told her that I just wanted a glass of wine. She rudely told me the register was closed, to go down to the other register where only one person was working. I decided to walk rather than wait and came back about 30 minutes later. This time there was a longer line and only one register. I spoke to the same woman standing at the closed register and asked if she could open the second register given the long line. She was rude again, told me they shut down the second register in the afternoon once they quit serving food. The issue I have with this place is the chronic rudeness and poor customer service I've repeatedly received. I tend to come in the afternoon, and only order drinks, Diet Coke, iced tea or wine. No matter how crowded it is, one register always seems to be closed in the afternoon despite employees standing there who appear to be capable and have the time to wait on customers. I can't seem to go in this place without one employee or manager being rude, or dissuading me from being there, repeatedly telling me there is no food after 3:00pm when all I want is a drink, repeatedly telling me they are closing soon. I am 66 years old, not a moron, and possess limits to the disrespect and rudeness I'm willing to accept from the businesses I chose to frequent. So I won't be coming here again. If you go, don't go after 2:00pm because your business isn't valued or wanted in the afternoon, the concern becomes all about making sure to get rid of customers in time for closing. read more

Coffee Importers is my favorite place in Dana for bagels. However, the constant changing of the hours and also what time the kitchen closes is quite frustrating. This is the second time that I've checked their Instagram bio for the hours saying they're open till 4 PM and when we get there, they say the kitchen closes an HOUR before they officially close. Why is that not in the Instagram bio? Additionally, they had on their sign today saying limited menu from 3 PM until close and when I asked about that, the cashier said that's only Friday through Sunday. I asked can we get food right now (today on a Tuesday) and she said no the kitchen closed at 3. If I just wanted coffee and pastries, I would go to Coco Bloom, but considering there is limited dining spots at the harbor right now, we were looking for a place that's still serves lunch later in the afternoon. read more

Came to have breakfast with family on a Saturday and the line and wait was not bad at all. After ordering, we found seats outdoor right away. Can't beat the view of the harbor. To top it off, weather was beautiful! Drinks and food came out at a decent time. Staff were nice and helpful. I had the everything bagel with scrambled eggs, spinach and feta. Love the vibe of the new location of Coffee Importers! They were a favorite before but I love the new patio, the new decor, the new view and the fact that the coffee and bagels are all in one location now. This place truly has the best bagels in town - my favorite is Pat's on Rye with fresh avocado, tomato and a dash of lemon pepper. Absolutely delish! I tried the decaf black mango tea (unsweetened) and it was surprisingly really good..refreshing, smooth, and full of flavor. Super long wait just to get coffee. They only had one cashier taking orders for coffee but he was also prepping pastries which took a lot longer than needed. Coffee was descent and they had vegan friendly milk. I ordered a lavender latte with oat milk and hubby ordered a mocha with oat milk. They didn't have any vegan pastries, unfortunately. Parking is tough so either be prepared to spend a while looking or come very early. We ordered lattes, a chai, and some pastries. The bear claws were yummy but the chai was disappointing. We went to the opening day of Coffee Importers at the new location near the Ocean Institute. 9 am made it tough to find parking because of drop off for the camp but 15 minutes later parking did open up. I was happy to see there are lines for both the food and for the coffee. Lots of people sitting outside and inside. Jim was there to greet everyone. It was nice to see Katrina Foley our district supervisor, also supporting Jim, the owner. Jim's daughter is running the bakery. And her baked items looked amazing. A long overdue review of the relocated and redesigned Coffee Importers. Love the new location and the beautiful interior. I especially appreciate the two lines (one for coffee & pastries and the other for food) to keep the traffic moving. Everyone here is always working hard and is always so helpful. My favorite is the California Bagel especially with the lemon pepper. My love of lemon pepper was founded thanks to Coffee Importers. My kiddos love the Dan Bagel on an Asiago bagel with tomato. Their açaí bowls are always ones to try with tons of granola inside for added taste and crunch. Recently just tried the cinnamon roll and an apple pastry (Nov 2025) from the pastry side as dessert and they were both delightful. After a full meal it was nice to take a stroll along the Dana Point Harbor on a beautiful Sunday morning. As a local, grateful to have an easy place to go in the mornings. read more

They have very good food and pastries. My favorites are the veggie wrap and veggie sandwich, veggie and bread are fresh with lots of flavor. It is very nice to sit outside and watch the boats go by. Dog friendly patio is a huge plus. The coffee however, leave a lot to be desired. I had a regular coffee with some steamed oat milk. The coffee was very weak and could not stand up to the milk. My wife had an iced latte with regular milk and it had almost no coffee flavor. As a coffee importer, I would expect some awesome coffee. I don't remember the last time I had a latte this bad. I ordered an almond milk latte with SF vanilla, so this drink ended up being $10 and it tasted like burnt coffee water. It actually made me nauseous, I only drank 1/4 of it. I tried to pawn it off on my dad but his literal words after tasting it were "I'm sorry I tried it." There goes $10 down the drain. read more
