We found an SUV online at this dealership that seemed like a great fit for us, even though it was a 6.5-hour drive away in California. We reached out to get more details and requested a video walkaround of the vehicle since none was available online. The video was helpful, though it was low-quality, shot on a mobile phone. After reviewing everything, we felt the listed price was too high, especially compared to similar vehicles we had seen locally. We made a verbal offer, which Tony, the sales manager, agreed to. We also requested that the car be detailed inside and out so we could get a clearer picture of its condition, and the dealership agreed. With everything seemingly squared away, my wife and I booked flights from LAX to Oakland Airport based on Tony's recommendation. Upon arriving the next day, I texted Tony to confirm, only to learn that they didn't have anyone to pick us up, so we had to take an Uber (about a 14-minute ride). When we got to the dealership, it was far from what the online photos portrayed. The place looked run-down, and the area was under heavy construction, with chaotic traffic and noise, which made us nervous about the test drive. When we arrived, there was no clear entrance due to all the construction cones, so we had to find our way in through a warehouse. We were greeted by Melissa, who knew we were there for a specific vehicle. The showroom was underwhelming, with older cars on display and a chaotic view of the construction outside. Tony came over briefly to introduce himself but immediately handed us off to Melissa, who was not knowledgeable about the vehicle or the process. She had to relay all our questions to Tony, and even after asking to speak with him directly, we were told he was too busy on the phone. When we finally saw the SUV in a garage, we were shocked. It barely resembled the vehicle listed online. The paint was covered in swirls, there were deep scratches, two of the rims were rashed, and the interior was filthy. It was clear that the car had been poorly wiped down while dirty, leaving towel scratches all over the exterior. Despite the car's condition, we decided to go ahead with a test drive. The test drive itself was a mess. Melissa sat in the back and acted as a navigator, but her directions were last-minute and confusing, especially with the heavily congested streets. She also spent most of the drive on her phone, barely paying attention to what was going on. After the drive, I pointed out the flaws on the vehicle and asked again to speak with Tony, but I was told he was still busy. Melissa informed us that since they had already reduced the price, there would be no further negotiation. The conversation felt awkward, and Melissa seemed almost happy to see us leave. In the end, we walked out without ever having a proper conversation with Tony, despite flying two hours to specifically meet with him about purchasing the vehicle. This was hands down the worst car-buying experience my wife and I have ever had, and we've bought two other vehicles in the past year alone. If you value your time and expect honesty from a dealership, I'd advise you to stay far away from this one. TL;DR waste of time and this is a dealership masquerading as an inspection site only to lowball you then ask to buy your car at a lower price, and make up reasons that it isn't worth as much. I came to S&R Motors off of KBB instant cash offer to sell my car. Upon arriving, I was greeted nicely by Nicole who explained that they simply "do inspections" as an inspection site and send out bids for your car to "Carmax, Tesla, Carvana and a bunch of independent dealerships" and they will present you the best offer. I talked to Dave and Gary(?) who both seem to work in the back office. Dave is a used car salesman and Gary seems to be the one who puts out quotes. While initially Gary asked how much I wanted for it, and said hey this is a perfect condition car, when he came back, he showed two very low offers from Carmax and KBB proper. Ultimately the amount was so low I felt insulted because carvana had actually offered me higher. Ultimately Dave came out and said hey you don't have maintenance records attached to your carfax so the car isn't worth much, so now let me ask what we can buy it off of for you. I quoted what Nicole had said, and Dave said that is wrong??? So what kind of game is this dealership playing trolling each other.. Re: the offer Dave gave - We were too far in price, but for both my interactions with Dave and Nicole they started to ramble on stories about car accidents and safety, and comparisons to other cars. It's almost fun watching this dealership operate? +1 star back because Nicole was nice and this was entertainment value, even if ultimately a waste of time because other big brand car dealerships all gave higher offers than this small dealership. read more
